Vicky Pattison was in tears on Celebrity MasterChef after a special day in a professional canteen.
Vicky and the remaining celebrity contestants carried out their mass catering challenge at The Metropolitan Police Training Academy in Hendon, North London.
The former Geordie Shore star teamed up with former boxing promoter Kellie Maloney to create a delicious lunch for the trainees.
She got off to a flying start, impressing with her dishes of salmon and noodles and cheesecake, and her solid teamwork with Kellie.
The TV personality looked in her element as she chatted to the trainees who wanted to sample what she’d cooked up for lunch.
Vicky was left a bit overwhelmed by what was such a rewarding day, and began to cry as she spoke about the time spent in the canteen.
‘That was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life,’ she said.
Beginning to tear up, she went on: ‘I feel really emotional and I don’t know why.’

The I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! winner had to briefly turn away from the camera to keep the tears in check.
Earlier in the episode she and Kellie teamed up to create a dish of fava bean fallafel with taboulleh and flatbreads.
While Vicky fell short on her flatbreads, judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace praised the ladies for their well flavoured fallafel.
Meanwhile fellow contestants Adam Woodyatt and Tomasz Schafernaker had to whip up tofu tacos.
EastEnders star Adam, who plays Ian Beale on the soap, struggled with his mayonnaise which was then blasted by John as ‘egg and oil in a cup’.
In the next episode the celebs will get in the MasterChef kitchen again to cook for their place in the competition.
But at the end of the episode, one celebrity will be out the door, following DJ Judge Jules earlier this week.
MasterChef continues Friday at 9pm on BBC One.

Emelle tried to put on a brave face but was later heard crying in the toilet as she had to pack her bags and say goodbye.
‘I didn’t expect it to be a boy!,’ she said, ‘But admitted there was just something off about it that I’m not sure about it.’
She then congratulated James for a job well done after admitting she fell for his lies.
He later revealed that he had tried to get her out after she phrased questions about his fake child in a way that made him think she was suspicious.

Tim cried as he spoke about fighting to remain in the Brexit referendum (Picture: Channel 4)
Tim made everyone’s hearts melt as he openly wept as he spoke about his fight to keep Britain in the EU during Brexit.
The eight players were thrown a party and were given a number of ice-breaker questions in order to get to know each other better through the social media app.
However, the final question, asking Should Britain have a second referendum over Brexit, yes or no, Tim’s answer was that no we shouldn’t, but wasn’t happy about it.
Explaining his decision, he explained he campaigned hard to keep Britain within the EU, but ultimately the choice across the nation was made, and it was too late to go back on it.
‘There shouldn’t have been a referendum in the first place,’ he said out loud. ‘But having done it we shouldn’t be turning back.’
‘I voted remain and did everything I could, including having a spat with Farage in the news, but we lost, and sadly we have to accept it,’ he later wrote in the group.
Woody gave him some support and told him: ‘You’re our saviour.’
The player proudly declared he had fought with Farage on TV over the matter (Picture: Channel 4)
‘Woody you’re sweet,’ Tim responded. ‘I’m not your saviour. But I’m out to fight.’
He then got upset and said: ‘I think that’s probably enough on that you know. I was broken-hearted.’
Tim was then seen removing his glasses and wiping his eyes as he tried to cover up his tears.
Viewers couldn’t handle seeing the sweet professor’s tears demanded someone go and give him a hug as soon as possible.
Before she could go, she was able to visit one of the other players – and got a shock when she discovered single mum Sammie was actually a man named James.
Praising him for a job well done and the extensive notes he’d been taking, Emelle left slightly more relieved that she was kicked out because of a game plan rather than because she wasn’t popular.
And now Richard Madeley’s officially involved in the game, playing a young, newly single woman called Judy…which is definitely going to cause some trouble.
The Circle continues weeknights at 10pm on Channel 4.

Adam Woodyatt got a roasting from John Torode (Picture: BBC)
EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt had a tough time in the kitchen in tonight’s episode of Celebrity MasterChef.
The actor struggled to create a thick mayonnaise for his vegetarian dish which he cooked up with weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker.
For the first challenge, the pair were placed on opposite sides of a wall and had to create tofu tacos that looked and tasted exactly the same.
It went well at first, but when it came to making mayonnaise from scratch Adam began to fall behind.
The 51-year-old couldn’t make his mayo thick enough to serve as he desperately tried to blend oil and an egg yolk together in the last few minutes.
While Tomasz was well away with serving up his dish, the actor was left frustrated by his sauce which looked a bit on the thin side and the oil hadn’t blended with the egg.
He decided not to risk dumping it all over his tacos and served it in a jug alongside the dish.
It just wasn’t coming together (Picture: BBC)
The actor struggled to make his mayo thick enough (Picture: BBC)
Unsurprisingly neither of the judges Gregg Wallace or John Torode gave it a try, with John calling his effort a ‘disaster’.
Gregg had praise for the actor, saying his tacos were ‘nigh on perfect’.
‘They are just fine enough to hold everything together and they are made beautifully,’ he said.
But John gave with one hand and took with the other, telling the soap star: ‘Your tofu could do with a bit more seasoning and fried for a bit longer.
‘Your cabbage is nicely cut, your avocado’s well seasoned. 10 drops of tobasco, brilliant.’
John called his attempt at mayonnaise a ‘disaster’ (Picture: BBC)

Pointing to the sloppy sauce he added: ‘That, Adam, that mayonnaise stuff is a disaster. That’s egg yolk and oil in a jug.’
Laughing Adam explained: ‘That’s why I didn’t put it on there.’
In the next episode Adam and Tomasz, and fellow contestants Vicky Pattison and Kellie Maloney will cook to keep their place in the competition.
Celebrity MasterChef continues Friday at 9pm on BBC One.

Declaring his new digs a ‘prison’ as he got used to his old school typewriter and keyboard, the star knew he’d be keeping himself busy by also playing guitar.
He was then given a photo to use to catfish the others chosen by the public, was seen sitting down to figure out his backstory before being added to the group chat.
Deciding that Judy was engaged but ‘broke it off a few months ago’, he framed her as ‘a posh girl who once met a real life astronaut who walked on the moon’.
His profile read: ‘Went to boarding school – hated it – and dropped out of uni after one term. Was born in London and still live there.
‘Claim to fame…once met a real life astronaut who walked on the moon. Had lots of jobs but now health and nutritionist tutor. LOVE IT.’
Richard is going to try and play a 27-year-old woman (Picture: Channel 4)
Will the players fall for Judy? (Picture: Channel 4)
Satisfied that this was a simple profile he could then elaborate on later, Richard signed it off – and was brought into the gang as the newest member.
However some already think that he might have messed up by making his profile too complicated.
I think Richard did his bio like a character bio for a book rather than a social media bio #TheCircle
he’s judy! wth🤦🏻♀️.. he aint gonna pull this off. i mean, obviously nobody is gonna think he’s richard but yanno… someone is gonna tag on that he aint a 27 year old called judy🤷🏻♀️😂 #TheCircle
Viewers have to run in tomorrow to see how he gets on.
Emma Willis declared that his temporary stay on the show was to become an ‘agent of chaos’ for the audience at home and will deliberately stir trouble in the group.
The show has already got off to a great start with record numbers on episode one, as more viewers than ever tune in to see the fight for popularity begin.
Players, which include a woman pretending to be her son and a man pretending to be a single mum, now have to fight for their spot with the on-screen personas, real or fake.

Steve thinks Eleanor is a legit snack (Picture: Getty)
The Good Place’s Eleanor Shellstrop has only been in love twice. Once to Stone Cold Steve Austin, and with a guy in a dark bar, who she thought was Stone Cold Steve Austin.
So when Stone Cole Steve Austin got wind of it…there were sure to be sparks.
The game wrestler dropped her a message online saying that he thought that she was a ‘legit snack’ after hearing she had a crush on him.
Naturally, Kristen Bell (aka Eleanor herself) couldn’t contain her excitement.
The strange interaction is all par-for-the-course for the afterlife sitcom, which is about to return for its fourth and final season in the US tonight.
Last we saw of Eleanor, she was taking over architect duties in a new experiment with those who have just died, trying to prove that people make each other better.
However, with the Bad Place getting to choose the people, it’s already disaster city for the Soul Squad as they pick people specifically to make things worse for Eleanor, Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Jason (Manny Jacinto) and Chidi (William Jackson Harper).
" I've only ever been in love with 2 people in my life. Stone Cold Steve austin, and a guy in a dark bar, who I mistook for Stone Cold Steve austin."- Eleanor Shellstrop @nbcthegoodplacehttps://t.co/jGkxjjXfHN
In a heartbreaking twist, Chidi decided at the end of season three to have his memory wiped for fear of him ruining the experiment as ex-girlfriend Simone (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) was thrown into the mix.
Eleanor now has someone she loves more than Stone Cold Steve Austin (Sorry, Steve) so is on a mission to win back the philosophy professor.
Oh, and the small conundrum of proving her and her friends are worthy of being in The Good Place, because if they fail, they’re going to be tortured for eternity.
The Soul Squad is back for one more round this season (Picture: NBC)
And they’ve made some powerful enemies with Sean and co not happy with them evading their capture over the years.
(We’ve heard they put screws in questionable places and bees with appendages they shouldn’t have.)
So no pressure, you guys!
The Good Place airs Thursdays on NBC in the US and Fridays on Netflix in the UK.

The 30-year-old was forced to quit Strictly after injuring his foot while practicing for a group number.
He was seen out and about wearing a moon boot after the incident, but it was nowhere to be seen as he hit the town at Soho House.
The Made In Chelsea star was dressed smartly for the occasion, wearing a black leather jacket, a white T-shirt and black jeans to the event.
He wasn’t the only celeb on the guestlist as he was joined by Love Island presenter Caroline Flack, who was reunited with former islander Wes Nelson.
Flackers looked chic in a long brown coat, black boots and a red handbag, probably feeling a lot chillier than she did in the Spanish villa back in the summer.
Meanwhile Wes fully embraced the holiday look, sporting an eye-catching printed shirt.

They were joined by Celebrity Juice star Keith Lemon, in iconic giant hat, and Jamie’s fellow Made In Chelsea star Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo.
Spencer Matthews – another ex-MIC face – went to the party with his Vogue Williams, who seemed to have borrowed once of Spenny’s shirts for the night.

Jamie was replaced by Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher who is competing with professional dancer Oti Mabuse.
Despite having just two weeks to nail the moves, Kelvin’s first dance last week went down a storm as Jamie watched on in the audience.
Speaking to host Tess Daly on the launch show, he described the performance as ‘amazing’ and added he was upset and not being able to take part.
‘I am so nervous for them all,’ he added.
He previously claimed Oti made him carry on dancing after suffering his foot injury, despite it feeling ‘like stepping on glass’.
Jamie explained: ‘I think with those dancers, they go through pains and struggles the entire time.
‘The show must go on. And being British, you just smile and go through the entire thing.’

Tim from The Circle must be protected at all costs (Picture: Channel 4)
The Circle only started on Tuesday, but things are already getting tense in Salford’s most famous block of flats.
And that’s before Richard Madeley has even joined properly.
We’ve had our very first elimination, with Emelle being given the boot, and our first breakdown – over Brexit of all things.
Side note: Tim must be protected at all costs.
But if, for some absurd reason, you happened to miss last night’s show, we’ve got you covered with everything you missed.
Richard Madeley joins The Circle as Judy
Richard Madeley joined The Circle (Picture: Channel 4)
Viewers watched on as Richard made his Circle debut yesterday, but the This Morning presenter has finally been given a profile to play under. And, in a move that will surprise absolutely no one, the public chose for him to be 27-year-old ‘Judy’.
Because, of course we did.
However, while he had no control over the gender of the profile he is playing the game under, he is in charge of who exactly ‘Judy’ is.
And, under relationship status, he decided Judes ‘was engaged but broke it off a few months ago’.
Judy is an astronaut-loving nutritionist, what could go wrong? (Picture: Channel 4)
Her page read: ‘Went to boarding school – hated it – and dropped out of uni after one term. Born in London, still live there.
‘Claim to fame… Once met a real life astronaut who’d walked on the moon. Had lots of jobs, but now health and nutritionist tutor. LOVE IT.’
She sounds…. absolutely riveting.
Judy’s profile popped up on The Circle page at the very end of the episode, sending ‘her’ fellow Circlers into total meltdown.
But how will they cope with Richard’s astronaut-loving nutritionist tutor?
Emelle meets ‘Sammie’ (James) after being eliminated
Emelle has become the first person blocked from the game (Picture: Channel 4)
Just before Judy’s profile appeared, the Circlers said goodbye to Emelle, after influencers Sammie (aka James) and Tim decided to send her packing.
‘We have made a decision. It was difficult to be the first influencer, so we’re sorry but it took some time,’ Tim announced in the Circle chat, after a long deliberation.
‘So the player we have decided to block is…Emelle.’
But that wasn’t quite the end of her journey, as she was given the chance to drop in on one of her fellow neighbours, before leaving for good.
Emelle couldn’t believe Sammie’s game plan (Picture: Channel 4)
Deciding to pay ‘single mum Sammie’ a visit, she was shocked as she came face-to-face with James.
‘I didn’t expect it to be a boy!,’ she told him, before admitting there was something about his profile she wasn’t quite sure of.
Before heading off for good, Emelle helped James strategise on who to target next, before congratulating him on a job well done.
So far, that is.
Tim crying over Brexit
Tim broke down in tears when Brexit came up (Picture: Channel 4)
Tim became an all-out fan favourite in the first episode, and somehow managed to make viewers fall even more in love with him last night.
He warmed our hearts as he enjoyed a private chat with Woody, but it was during an ice-breaker game that he really shone.
And then promptly burst into tears.
The Circlers were asked a question about Brexit – which is enough to bring anyone to tears – when they took the opportunity to discuss whether the public should be given a second referendum.
Tim was unsure of what his answer should be, as he is hugely against Brexit, revealing he went to battle against Nigel Farage on the subject.
No, you’re crying (Picture: Channel 4)
However, he answered a thumbs-down on the question, telling the camera: ‘There should never have been a referendum in the first place, but having done it, we shouldn’t be turning back.’
In the Circle chat, he added: ‘I voted remain and did everything I could, including having a spat with Farage in the news, but we lost. Sadly we have to accept it.’
Discussing his further answer, he wiped away tears as he admitted the result left him ‘broken hearted’.
The sound you hear is viewers’ hearts breaking all over the country.
Bonds form as Jay cringes everyone out
Katie is absolutely not playing it cool (Picture: Channel 4)
Elsewhere there are bonds forming all over the place, with Sy opening a boys chat with Woody and Jay (who is actually mum Katie).
And it seems Katie is struggling to remember she’s taking part on the show as her son, as she debated how she should greet her fellow lads – with ‘dude, bruv, son, mate or geeze’.
A simple ‘hi’ will be okay, hun.
She gets right down to business by asking if the other guys are interested in their neighbours, telling Woody and Sy: ‘So lads. What are you thinking about the birds in here? They’re all single which is sweet. I’m looking forward to getting to know them all.’
Letting everyone know ‘Jay’ is keen on Sammie, she added: ‘Total respect for single parents and she’s fit.’
Unfortunately for ‘Jay’, ‘Sammie’ is absolutely not a single parent, and is in fact a man named James.
We’re already living for their inevitable awkward meet-up.
But will any of the other Circlers be able to pick apart their game plans?
The Circle continues nightly, at 10pm, on Channel 4.

Ben Shephard has recalled the moment he caught his pal Kate Garraway topless in her kitchen – and admits he was so ‘transfixed’ that he was scared to move an inch.
And 20 years later, it’s still very much etched in Ben’s memory.
Explaining the awkward moment, Ben told his GMB co-host Susanna Reid with Kate sitting next to him: ‘Me and Kate were working together for a long time, lived round the corner from each other, literally were neighbours.
‘I’d invited myself over for a cup of tea like I often did because she was never that keen on me coming round because it meant she had to tidy up.
‘I was cycling because I was living right in the middle of town at the time, and Kate lived in a townhouse. Her kitchen was in the basement and I’m chaining my bike up… I’m getting shivers thinking about it.’
Poor Ben.
He continued: ‘It was lunchtime and Kate had gone home to have a sleep and then suddenly someone walked into the kitchen and it was Kate. And she was topless, I kind of just stopped. I was transfixed.’
Kate was ‘flabberghasted’ by Ben’s revelation (Picture: ITV)
Ben confronted an uncomfortable memory (Picture: ITV)
Kate joked Ben was ‘paralysed like a cobra’ and admitted she was ‘flabbergasted’ when Ben eventually confessed to her what he saw.
Ben continued: ‘I didn’t want to move. I thought if I move she’ll notice me then that’d be really embarrassing. So I undid my chain and slowly walked away like I’d never seen a thing.
‘I cycled off in a hot sweat.’
Sounds like quite an ordeal.
It seems like Ben isn’t alone in his embarrassment though as several viewers wrote into the show to reveal their own incidents of accidentally catching someone in the buff.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.

Ninja has dominated streaming, becoming the most followed gamer on Twitch before defecting to Mixer.
But it seems he just couldn’t dominate The Masked Singer.
The 28-year-old has been unveiled as one of the contestants on the quirky Fox show after failing to impress judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke.
Ninja – real name Richard Tyler Blevins – dressed as a giant ice-cream (we told you this show was quirky) to conceal his identity, with the judges initially guessing it could be Diplo, Calvin Harris, Evan Spiegel, Marshmello or PewDiePie hiding beneath that giant head.
Gold coins, karate moves, headphones, a turntable, a mansion, a money gun and emojis were used as clues for Ninja, with him saying: ‘For me, every day is cheat day’, ‘Growing up, I caught a lot of flack for doing the thing I love the most’, ‘Even my mom and dad had their doubts. But I believed in my ridiculous dream and I turned my fantasy into a reality.’.
‘I’ve got over a billion reasons to be proud of my hard work and determination’, and ‘I am used to performing in front of millions of people.’
Where is the lie?
‘Ice Cream’ performed Old Town Road by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, but unfortunately for him, he was beaten by ‘Tree’ – who the judges guessed was Zooey Deschanel or Rachael Ray – who sang High Hopes by Panic! at the Disco.
In the ‘smackdown’ round, Ice Cream sang Whip It by Devo in an effort to beat Ladybug, who sang absolute banger Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar – and sadly for streaming fans, Ice Cream was given the boot.
After his elimination, host Nick Cannon helped Ninja take off his mask, and the judges and crowd lost their minds when they realised it was him beneath the ice cream swirl.
Ninja said: ‘I just wanted to step outside by comfort zone, man, and my wife and I loved the season last year so, when the opportunity came and presented itself, we were like, yeah, just do it.’
At least Ninja wasn’t the only casualty of the show. ‘Egg’ was unmasked to be Olympic skater Johnny Weir, whose rendition of One Way Or Another by Blondie wasn’t enough to save him.

Here’s why Rick Grimes had to die in The Walking Dead (Picture: AMC)
The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman lived up to his promise and killed Rick Grimes earlier this year.
In the comics which inspired the AMC series, Rick was shot dead in his bed by Sebastien Milton, before rising again as a zombie to be killed for a second time by his son, Carl.
It was a bold move but one we knew had been coming for some time. It’s just no one was quite ready for it when they turned the page to see their worst nightmare unfolding before them.
But Rick’s death had to happen, according to Kirkman.
‘Rick Grimes fixed the world to the point where he was so safe that he could be killed by the weakest character in the book. It’s a statement on how good of a job he did,’ the writer explained to Comicbook.com.
‘At no point in the history of the comic could he have been killed that way. It wasn’t until the very end that he was able to relax.’
Andrew Lincoln departed The Walking Dead in season nine and will be starring in three Rick Grimes-centric movies expected to arrive in cinemas and AMC next year.
Rick Grimes was shot dead in the comic books (Picture: Image Comics)
Next to nothing is known about the trilogy other than we’ll find out more during next month’s New York Comic-con.
‘Can’t tell you where Rick went,’ stressed showrunner Scott Gimple. ‘I hate giving this answer because it drives people nuts, but we’re close to telling more soon. We’ve been working really, really hard.’
He added: ‘Mr. Kirkman is very involved in this and it’s been really fun working with him. We work on the shows and stuff, but working on this, just me and him in a room, has been an incredible joy in a really weird perfect way to be working on this tenth year.’
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 6 and will follow a day later on FOX UK.

The 44-year-old BBC Breakfast presenter called out Trump after he made a series of tweets in response to four Democratic congresswomen who were outspoken about the president’s immigration policies.
Now Good Morning Britain host Piers has taken to Twitter to speak on behalf of Naga, who he said will be ‘gagged’ from speaking.

‘Since the BBC will gag my breakfast show rival @BBCNaga from saying anything about this, allow me: it’s bloody ridiculous,’ he shared.
‘Her words were powerful & necessary. Shameful censorship.’
The anchor was presenting the early morning show on 17 July when she went off-script to slam President Donald Trump’s comments telling his opposers to ‘go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came’.
His political opponents include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Ilhan Omar – all of whom are from minority backgrounds.
Trump is now at the centre of an impeachment inquiry (Picture: Getty).
Going off-book from the teleprompter, Naga declared: ‘Every time I have been told, as a woman of colour, to go back to where I came from, that was embedded in racism.
‘Now I’m not accusing anyone of anything here, but you know what certain phrases mean.’
The Executive Complaints Unit for the channel have ruled that she ‘went too far’ (Picture: BBC)
Speaking alongside Dan Walker, she added: ‘I can imagine lots of people in this country will be feeling absolutely furious that a man in that position feels it’s okay to skirt the lines with using language like that.’
But the Executive Complaints Unit for the channel have ruled that she ‘went too far’.
They said: ‘While Ms Munchetty was entitled to give a personal response to the phrase “go back to your own country” as it was rooted in her own experience, overall her comments went beyond what the guidelines allow for.’
It is not known if the BBC will take any further action at this time.
H from Steps has been confirmed as the fifth contestant to get their skates on for Dancing On Ice 2020.
The popstar, real name Ian Watkins, was unveiled as the latest star to join the line-up for the upcoming series on Thursday’s episode of Good Morning Britain with Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid doing the honours.
Coronation Street star Lisa George was later confirmed as the fifth contestant, while footballer Kevin Kilbane and news presenter Lucrezia Millarini will also appear.
Speaking to Ben, Susanna and Kate Garraway, H said: ‘I feel like I’m giving birth to something. I don’t have any experience, I’ve literally been frantic.’
And if you’re wondering, he joked there’s a chance of him doing the Tragedy dance on ice but, frankly, we wouldn’t risk those moves in the rink.
H added of his skating skills: ‘If I end up anywhere between James Jordan and Joe Pasquale I’ll be happy.’
Speaking of the new judge John Barrowman, H revealed: ‘I’ve met John over the years because we’ve both done West End stuff together and he’s a laugh, he’s a scream, but he’ll hold no prisoners I know that.’
H admits Dancing On Ice will be a ‘brutal’ challenge
Maura will also get her skates on for Dancing On Ice 2020 (Picture: ITV)
Michael Barrymore was confirmed earlier this week (Picture: ITV)
H went on to explain how the place means more to him since becoming a father, telling the presenters: ‘The game has changed now because I have twins. It’s a skill I can learn now and show my kids.
‘It’s scary, exciting and all of the above and there’s no going back. It’s brutal, I know.’
After being reminded of Gemma Collins’ epic fall on the ice earlier this year, H joked: ‘I have insurance. I know that I’m going to be put through my paces and that’s the name of the game but I’m up for the challenge.
‘Let’s not hope that I fall that way but who knows.’
He added: ‘It’s insane, they’re expecting you to skate on this slippery white surface on razor blades.’
Confirming her place on the next series, Maura said earlier this week: ‘I’m delighted to say that I’ll be joining the Dancing on Ice line up for 2020.
‘I’m looking forward to meeting Holly and Phil. I’m very excited…it’s performance time!’ added Michael who shared a video with the show.’
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV at 6am.
Dancing On Ice returns to ITV in January 2020.

Your friends won’t always be there for you (Picture: NBCU Photo Bank)
It’s been 25 years since the premiere of Friends. Even now, it’s constantly on TV in America where it averages 16million viewers a week, making it the ninth most watched show on television.
Apparently Netflix paid US $100million to stream the series this year alone – and I have to say, I have got their money’s worth from re-watching it.
If I can’t sleep or I just need some company at home, I’ll pop on an episode or five. Just recently, Robert De Niro sued his assistant for not doing her job and among his grievances is the fact that she allegedly watched 55 episodes in four days, during work hours. The show is nothing if not extremely watchable.
However, this stupidly successful sitcom was not exactly truthful about what friendship, life, love, work and adulthood are really like, was it?
I’ve known people who blame the TV show Friends for giving them unrealistic expectations of becoming an adult. Now, because it does seem like we may never stop talking about this show, let’s go through all the lies Friends told us about friendship.
You’ll belong to a perfect, cohesive group of six friends who all get on
If you took your cues on what adult friendship was going to look like from Friends, you might be angry or disappointed that you didn’t get your allotted group of five perfect friends.
In real life, friendship groups are usually so much messier than that. They’re made up of friends from all the different corners of your life – work, school, university, childhood and beyond.
They only really ever hang out when you force them to celebrate your birthday together, or on your wedding day, if you choose to get married. They do not necessarily all like one another and they certainly don’t obsessively hang out in the same combination of six people, to the exclusion of just about everyone else in New York city.

Your friends will always be there for you
It’s right there in the opening theme song: a promise that your friends will always be there to love and support you.
Now, I do think it’s possible to have near-perfect friends who stick by you through a lifetime, no matter what happens. That kind of friendship does exist. But also, people you thought were close friends will ghost you, let you down, lie to you, offend you and forget you.
Adult friendship can be brutal and hurtful, as well as delightful and loving. It’s so much more more complicated and difficult than a sitcom can be expected to portray.
You can neatly resolve a conflict in 22 minutes
Most times when someone fought in Friends, they’d neatly resolve it within the episode. Of course, this is because we only spent half an hour at a time with these characters and we crave resolution for the people we watch on our tellies, so the writers usually scripted in a satisfying conclusion for any conflict that arose.
This can also give you this incorrect idea that when friends can fight and say (hilariously) appalling things to one another, they find a way to make up efficiently.
Human emotions don’t really work themselves out so neatly, nor so quickly. When you fight with your friends (or sleep with their sister, or agree to your new British wife’s ban on seeing your ex-girlfriend, or ask your kooky musician friend to stop singing outside your upmarket restaurant, or kiss the love of your best friend’s life), things take a little longer to work themselves out.
Hopefully not many people set their expectations for conflict resolution between human beings on a sitcom, but still, it was misleading.
We know that modern adult friendship is really just endless rescheduling (Picture: Warner Bros. Television)
You will always be able to schedule spontaneous catch ups, including when you have children
The friends in Friends hang out all the time. Whether they’re curled up on that big orange sofa or eating food from Monica’s fridge, they spend basically all their free time together.
They often run into each other and agree to just hang out on the spot – something that continues to happen once Ross becomes a father to Ben and he and Rachel have Emma.
In reality, we know that modern adult friendship is really just endless rescheduling. You have to get dates in the diary weeks, if not months, in advance.
The idea of dropping round unannounced to someone’s place is archaic – charming, but utterly impossible. It becomes even more complicated once people start procreating.
If Friends were set now and it was at all true to life, they’d spend most of their time interacting via WhatsApp, just trying to find one date they can all get together.
And just at the last minute someone would have to stay late at work, or the babysitter would cancel, or they’d need to stay home watching reruns of Friends because they’re overtired and overwhelmed by the responsibilities of being an adult.

Real people have breakfast with their friends before work
Logistically, this one is mad – and arguably the biggest lie of all. Various members of the main friendship group are seen consuming breakfast foods with one another on weekdays mornings, wearing work attire, which implies they hang out together before 9am.
I have not done this one time in my adult life and I do not believe I know anyone who has, either. It’s an especially offensive fantasy for women, who have to wash and dry their hair sometimes before work as well as put on makeup and choose what clothes to put on their body.
Plus, think about the commute. Getting ready for work and getting into the office takes precious morning time, which you could be using to sleep through your alarm.
There are no real human beings hanging out before they go into work. It looked quite nice, though, having cereal together in Monica’s apartment.
Among all these lies, Friends did have some genuinely moving moments of friendship. We spent a decade probably feeling, just a little bit, like we were friends with these people, too.
The truth is that real-life friendship, in all its messy, unscripted glory, is actually better than what happens on telly. That ain’t no lie.
Susanna has suffered some near disasters (Picture: Ken McKay/ITV/REX )
Susanna Reid has plenty to contend with on Good Morning Britain – early starts, unruly guests, Piers Morgan…
So it must be a total ‘mare when her wardrobe starts playing up too.
The 48-year-old has revealed she has split her dress ‘on more than one occasion’ while sitting behind her desk on GMB.
We can’t imagine anything worse.
Susanna has launched a column with the Daily Mail and in her first installment, set about explaining her daily life and how she juggles morning TV with her family life.

And the presenter gave us an insight into the perils of wearing an outfit that’s just a little bit too tight.
Susanna wrote: ‘Squeezing into an outfit that’s too tight or too flimsy means the back of my dress has split on more than one occasion.
‘Thank goodness for the advertising breaks on ITV, which mean changes are easier than they were when I was at the BBC.’
Susanna also shared that Kate Garraway recently saved her from a major faux pas that probably would have started a Twitter storm.

The mum-of-three wrote: ‘Two minutes before going live, the editor was doing a rehearsal of the headlines when my co-presenter dropped a bombshell. “I can see your bra,” Kate said.
‘Under the beaming studio lights, my chic red dress had gone transparent. Eeek! My bra should not be making headlines!’
However, with a quick costume change, Susanna was back chatting about the EU without any of us noticing. What a pro.
As Susanna’s column launched under the headline: ‘Your new must Reid! Britain’s favourite breakfast TV star joins the nation’s favourite paper’, her co-host Piers Morgan swallowed some humble pie to congratulate his colleague.
Piers, 54, tweeted: ‘Cracking Reid! (And congrats on being Britain’s favourite breakfast TV star… it’s a humble joy to bask in your reflected glory.)’
Oh look, hell has frozen over.

Judy Garland’s daughter admits she has no intention of watching the upcoming biopic on her mother’s life starring Renee Zellweger.
Renee, 50, takes on the role of the Hollywood icon in the upcoming movie Judy, which charts the late actress’ life from her debut as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, to her personal life including several marriages and substance abuse.
However, Judy’s daughter Lorna Luft – half-sister of Liza Minnelli – reveals she won’t be going to watch Renee’s performance.
Speaking on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, Lorna said: ‘I’m really protective of my mum’s legacy and my mother’s legendary career. I feel that if you really want to know about my mum, go see her movies and go listen to her recordings, and that’s how you’ll know about her.
‘Just a few days ago I was in Seattle with my grandchildren and my five-year-old said to me, “It’s raining outside. Let’s go watch Dorothy”. I said, “Do you know who Dorothy is?” She said yeah, “triple G”.’
‘I’m getting to literally introduce my mum to my grandchildren and that’s to me what’s so important.’
Lorna, 66, went on to list her mother’s incredible movie and music career, stating: ‘By the time my mum was 37 years old, she had made 39 movies. She had done over 500 radio shows and 1,257 concerts.
Renee takes on the role of screen icon Judy Garland
‘So it was an extraordinary career and I sit here and think to myself I’m the luckiest person in the world to have had her as my mum.’
Judy died at the age of 47 in 1969 due to an accidental overdose.
But focusing on her mother’s stellar career, Lorna said: ‘I think that you have to understand the whole story and you have to understand from A to B.

‘The most important thing to realise is what she left us, this unbelievable library of film and television and radio.’
Addressing Judy’s death at a young age, she continued: ‘Yes she passed away early, but what an incredible legacy she left to you, me and my grandchildren.
‘I’m really protective but I was 16 years old, I knew her.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
Judy, starring Renee Zellweger, hits UK cinemas on 2 October.

Lorraine Kelly nearly dropped a swear bomb live on air after a mysterious voice interrupted a segment on the show.
After showing a clip from showbiz guru Ross King’s interview with Celine Dion, a bizarre voice could be heard over the video link from Los Angeles while he chatted with Lorraine.
Acknowledging the strange voice, Lorraine said: ‘I don’t know. I could hear weird-y talking in there, it sounded like Martin Lewis talking about supermarkets or something.’
In the background, someone was then heard singing ‘let’s do my deals again’ to the tune of The Time Warp, prompting baffled looks from Ross and Lorraine.

Not entirely sure what was happening, Lorraine said: ‘Okay there’s somebody playing… I was going to say something rude there.
‘Somebody being naughty, we’ll sort that out and we’ll go onto the Royal tour now.’
Has the spirit of Martin Lewis been embedded into ITV airwaves? Is he trying to pass down money-saving deals to Celine Dion? Or is it just a random bloke who loves the Time Warp? We might never know.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she stated that after episodes one and two of season 17, she will only be back for two more.
The actress also revealed that the show’s writers had ‘always flirted’ with the prospect of her character returning to the series in a ‘complex and fun storyline’.
‘This time they wanted to really have a serious discussion about where I thought the character had been in the past five years, and how we could potentially create a complex and fun storyline to bring the character back,’ she continued.
‘After lots of conversations, especially with writer Gina Monreal, she really tried to incorporate a lot of things that I thought the character had gone through.’
Cote later spoke about Ziva’s absence from the show, explaining that the character had been working ‘in secret’ since she went into hiding.
‘We thought that the best thing is that she’s been working in undercover operations, which has led her to run for years and in many ways, by staying quote-unquote “dead to the rest of the world,” she’s been able to really save her daughter from potential harm.’
The 39-year-old also admitted that she was ‘excited’ to play the role of Ziva again, feeling there was ‘something missing’ from the character that had to be explored.
NCIS is broadcast on Fox UK and is also available to stream on NOW TV.
