Plenty of viewers watching the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest tonight are in for a surprise when they see Australia, represented by Guy Sebastian, on stage.
As if there aren’t already enough songs to drive you to distraction. Australia’s inclusion means there are a record 27 countries competing in the final. (13 have already been eliminated after failing to qualify from Tuesday and Thursday night’s semi final.)
So why Australia?
In order to compete at Eurovision, you don’t actually have to be a European country. The rules are simple. Your national broadcaster must be a fully paid up member of the European Broadcasting Union – the organisation that run the Eurovision Song Contest.
