BBC chiefs have faced criticism from MPs for claiming that the huge salaries of its highest paid stars are at a ‘discounted rate’.
A panel, which consisted of three directors, answered questions to MPs in the wake of the latest annual report which shows that 12 people, believed to be stars of programmes like The Voice and Strictly Come Dancing, are paid salaries of between £500,000 and £1million by the BBC.
It also shows that 74 senior BBC staff are paid over £160,000, which is higher than Prime Minister David Cameron’s income of £142,500.
