Russell Howard has used his BBC show to call out the absurdity of the tampon tax.
The comedian scoffed at the idea of a tampon being deemed as a luxury item after MPs voted against an amendment to the Finance Bill which would have scrapped the five percent VAT rate currently applied to these ‘non-essential items’.
‘Do you know the absurd thing, you pay VAT on tampons because they’re a “luxury” but you don’t pay VAT on things that are considered “essential”,’ he says during a recent episode of Russell Howard’s Good News.
