We love Joanne Froggatt as lady’s maid Anna Bates in Downton Abbey, but we don’t reckon we’ll love her in her next role as a serial killer.
Joanne has been signed up to play Victorian poisoner, Mary Ann Cotton, in a new ITV two-part drama called Dark Angel which was inspired by David Wilson’s book Mary Ann Cotton: Britain’s First Female Serial Killer.
20 years before Jack The Ripper murderously took to the streets of London, Mary Ann had tallied up 21 kills before she was finally arrested and eventually executed at Durham Jail in March 1873.
