He’s been in Coronation Street for no more than eight months but already Shayne Ward has proven himself as a fully-fledged actor by winning best newcomer at the NTAs.
Best known for winning the second series of The X Factor in 2005, Ward was over the moon as he took to the stage to collect his acting nod on Wednesday night for his portrayal of Aidan Connor in the ITV soap.
He nabbed the award after beating EastEnders’ Richard Blackwood, Hollyoaks’ Perry Glasspool and Emmerdale’s Gemma Atkinson, who were all nominated in the same category.
And in his winning speech, he was quick to reflect on how far he’s come, clearly bigging up Corrie over the original hand that fed him.
