In the North Stannis Baratheon took drastic measures to take on the Boltons, shocking us all by sacrificing daughter Shireen to appease the Lord of Light.
Any other week this would have been the most dramatic part of the episode, but in Meereen the re-opening of the fighting pits culminated in a bloody attack by the Sons of the Harpy with Daenerys flying off on Drogon.
