The BBC have spoken out to deny claims from one of their own writers that EastEnders unrealistically represented a grooming storyline by creating a white character instead of an Asian character.
Jeff Povey, who is thought to have written 179 episodes of the soap, caused controversy when he claimed that producers had been forced to opt for a white actor in a story which saw Whitney Dean groomed and pimped by Rob Grayson, who was eventually played by Jody Latham.
