Sir David Attenborough once turned down Sir Terry Wogan for a job because he was Irish.
According to letters found by the BBC Archive, Wogan had begged Attenborough for a job at BBC2 but was turned down because they already had an Irish presenter.
Next week’s Radio Times will feature the 1965 letter Terry sent to David, when the latter was the launch controller of the channel at the time, having already been rejected.
Wogan was working at Irish broadcaster RTE at the time and wrote the correspondence using their letter had.
