Harry Enfield has given a very solid reason for why he and Paul Whitehouse would never bring back their 70s DJ characters Smashie and Nicey again – because they would not be ‘tarred with the Savile brush’.
The comedian, also known for his Kevin and Perry sketches, conceded that the characters would not be welcome on television these days following the prolific abuse of Jimmy Savile which came to light after his death.
Speaking to The Mirror, Enfield said: ‘You couldn’t start them now, you wouldn’t do a couple of comedy paedophiles.’
