The background: in 2009, just a year before TOWIE was made, Essex boy Brian Belo (he of Big Brother 2007/2015 fame) and two friends took an idea for a fly-on-the-wall documentary called Totally Essex to Lime Pictures, who would go on to make TOWIE with ITV.
