The Good Place is preparing to say goodbye to season 4 but the first look pictures hint at trouble with notable Soul Squad member Chidi Anagonye nowhere to be seen.
Human turtle neck Chidi was last seen making the heart-breaking decision to have his memory wiped in the season 3 finale, and with it, all the memories he has of his love of Eleanor (Kristen Bell).
Now an unknowing member of their brand new fake Good Place, the team have taken a beating as Shawn and Team Bad Place get an upper hand.
In season 4’s first look pictures thought, Chidi is literally nowhere to be seen, with Eleanor, Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Janet (D’Arcy Carden), Michael (Ted Danson) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) all adapting to their new roles in the game of their lives.
Eleanor has leaned in pretty hard with her new role as fake architect, adopting a power bob and suit in the offices of Michael, who is seeming more out of his depth with the humans by the second.
As they’re forced to pretend everything is fine in their new afterlife, it looks like The Bad Place’s plan to bring in people that will drive them crazy is working.
We’ve already met the gross blogger who drove Tahani to distraction, and know that Chidi’s ex Simone has now passed as well and she’ll be joining them in the after life too.
With two more humans about to join them, it could spell disaster for everyone involved if they’re caught out – and their experiment to prove that people make others better could backfire as they end up in literal eternal damnation.
So it makes sense that Tahani, arms ever crossed, is on a mission with Janet and Jason, who have to figure out now what they plan to do next.
Lurking through doorways and appearing to return to the house of Mindy St Clair, it’s obvious the team are going to stop at nothing to get their friend back.
The first episode, titled A Girl From Arizona, is clearly aimed at Eleanor and her history, and could provide some clues in to how long we can wait before Chidi finds his way back to her.
Unless he finds and rekindles his romance with Simone first? Either way, this is forking torture.
