Downton Abbey has just made a successful migration from the small to silver screen – and it seems Peaky Blinders could be about to follow its lead.
The hit BBC show about Birmingham-based gangsters could one day have a movie spin-off, its writer has said.
Speaking at Peaky Blinders: The Legitimate Festival in Birmingham this week, Steven Knight said: ‘I’m writing series six at the moment. That’s almost done.
‘Then I’m going to do series seven, then I’m looking at spin-offs, maybe a movie. It’s up to us. It’s up to the people involved.’
However, Knight ruled out a prequel because ‘you can’t kill a character who can show up in the series.’

Knight also ruled out giving a cameo to Peaky Blinders super fan Liam Gallagher, after the Oasis icon made a surprise appearance at the festival.
‘What I’m trying to not do is populate the scene with people who are known for other things, because I think it’s quite distracting,’ he explained.
‘In terms of appearances we’ve always had a lot of incoming interest,’ he added.
On how Liam came to attend the event in Digbeth, Knight explained: ‘He said, “If you do my video, I’ll do the festival.”’
Knight’s clarification comes after Liam tweeted earlier this month: ‘I’m of [sic] to meet a man about a part in Peaky Blinders Why me Why not see ya.’
Peaky Blinders of course stars Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby; other cast members include Helen McCrory and Paul Anderson.
Meanwhile, Tom Hardy appeared in a supporting role in series 2-4, playing Alfie Solomons.
Peaky Blinders continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
