Take note, aspiring creatives: Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has some truly inspiring words of wisdom for you.
Taking to Instagram ahead of the upcoming new season, the star shared a discarded scene from the first episode, to make a point about hard work and perseverance.
‘These two children shot a lot of home movies before they landed on Sunny,’ he said.
‘Even this bizarre interaction – which was an early pass on what would become a scene in our first episode – was worked and reworked and reworked.
‘We shot a version of this scene four or five times. All that is to say… Just make stuff. It probably won’t be very good at first. Make it better. That’ll probably suck too. Fix it. Then throw it out because it’s most likely trash. Then make something else. Garbage. Toss it. Do it better.’
He finally concluded: ‘The important thing is to recognise that’s it’s never perfect so it’s never done. Everyone else will give up when it sucks, so just…don’t. Please don’t. We need new voices.’
Rob of course plays Mac on the show. His other screen roles include ER and Fargo.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia also stars Charlie Day, Danny DeVito and Glenn Howerton.
When the show returns, it’ll tie with ABC’s The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running live action comedy series ever.
Meanwhile, The Simpsons is the longest-running scripted TV series in history.
Season 14 of It’s Always Sunny airs on 25 September.
