The Archers catch-up: Linda saves the day, Tracy reaches new levels of hilarious, Eddie’s trying to get his own son fired

Linda saves the day in the cricket and becomes hero of the day. She never does anything by halves – her determination to learn every arcane rule about the game is admirable – but seems to grate on Alistair, who moans that she’s asking too many questions, until she points out Darrington’s no ball and overturns the umpire’s wicket against Ambridge, winning them the game. She’s now set on becoming an umpire herself – which I think is a brilliant idea but seems to horrify Alistair. Fickle as the wind, that one.

Oliver and Tracy‘s relationship is going from strength to strength and it’s a beautiful thing. They go out for a supper club night and it’s the first time he’s laughed so much since Caroline died. It was all thanks to Tracy, giving him stories about getting it on with fireman and her dodgy son setting fire to the garden shed.

Ian has called a truce with ‘druggie’ Freddie Pargeter because he’s getting someone he likes even less in at Grey Gables. Arch enemy no.1 Hugh from Lower Loxley is coming to take over in the kitchen – sorry, not take over, stand in – and Freddie has offered to spy for Ian.

Meanwhile over at Home Farm Adams quinoa has dried out too slowly and has got too high levels of some long word chemical or another and now has to be sold as birdseed! Adam’s furious and tries to blame Brian but Bri hits back that he took his eye off the ball with letting the gas in the drier run out.

Before he had the bad news about the quinoa, Pip managed to collar Ada and soften him up by giving him some baby clothes of Rosie’s, before apologising to him for springing the rewilding project on the partner meeting. Adam takes pity on Pipand says he’ll table the rewilding projects at the next meeting. Good thing he hadn’t just heard about the quinoa or he might have sent her packing.

Eddie comes up with the worst plan of all time, to get his own son fired by Martin Gibson. If anything is going to send Will further off the rails, it’s your dad plotting to get you fired. Luckily, Martin Gibson doesn’t know that Will has been taking his daughter on midnight patrols of the game park, and tells Brian that he’s got no reason to fire Will because Will is a good worker. It’s the only nice thing anyone said about Will in years.

Ed takes son of Peppa to market to sell him but he only makes £1000. Ed should really be playing the long game, as Eddie suggested, and have thought about keeping son of Peppa for breeding. Instead he took the quick buck and gave it straight to Emma for the kids. She wouldn’t take any for herself – she still has the tea shop and the chicken factory, but she’ll find it a bit harder to fit all that in with the kids full time. Looks like Susan and Neil are going to be roped into some serious unpaid labour. Still, that’s what grandparents are for, isn’t it?
