It was the comeback that Peaky Blinders fans have been waiting for – Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) is back in business!
The Jewish mobster was given a surprise visit by Tommy (Cillian Murphy) after surviving the gunshot in season four that was supposed to have killed him.
Setting up home in Margate with nothing but a maid, Alfie is definitely not the man he used to be – looking a little worse for wear with a huge scar on his face and seemingly blind in one eye.
Turns out that it was Alfie himself who tipped Tommy off to him being alive, thanks to sending him a letter on a hell of a lot of drugs to make sure that his beloved dog Cyril was OK.
But his smart-mouth hasn’t gone anywhere – telling Tommy that they were ‘both f***ed’ when it comes to going to hell.
On how he survived on the beach after the shootout, he simply said: ‘I was lying out there when the tide came in woke me up. I was looking around thinking f**k, if this is hell it looks a lot like Margate.’
He later joked: ‘I was shot in the face by some c*** – won’t bore you with the details.’
Tommy knows this though, but finally came to see his old pal after their shootout in order to help him gather the mob needed to try and take down a bigger enemy – Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin).
Announcing his plans to assassinate Mosley at a rally, Alfie told him: ‘I hope you do a better job on him than you’d done on me.’
Their head-to-head remained, as always, a battle of their wits as they tip-toed between loving and loathing each other while Tommy tried to convince him it was a cause worth fighting for.
Eventually, Tommy wins him over, and Alfie supplies a Jewish mob to storm the rally to cover for the assassination attempt.
Naturally, viewers were glad to see Alfie make his long awaited return from the dead

Tommy makes himself known to his former frenemy once again after declaring to Jimmy McCavern (Brian Gleeson) last week that he was the only person worthy of looking after the south of England.
Jimmy laughed off the suggestion, and told Tommy: ‘He’s dead, and he’s Jewish. And I’d say as far as our boss is concerned him being dead would be less of an obstacle than him being Jewish.’
Guess Alfie and the Peaky Blinders are back in business after all…but in season six, they’ve got a hell of a fight on their hands if they’re going to defeat the fascist tyrant.
Let war commence.
Peaky Blinders is available on BBC iPlayer now, and on Netflix from 5 October.
