Peaky Blinders season 5 ended on one hell of a cliffhanger last night and it seems things are going to go from bad to worse for Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) with the arrival of a new family.
Gina Grey (Anya Taylor-Joy) has husband Michael (Finn Cole) wrapped around her little finger, and director Anthony Byrne has teased that her family could soon be descending on the show.
Are they going to spell the end of the Peaky Blinders?
‘Gina, and whoever her family are, will make themselves known, Oswald Mosley and some people around him and his world,’ he told BBC Sounds’ Obsessed With Peaky Blinders podcast.
Gina was seen in the final episode instructing Michael it was ‘time they went with their second option’ after Tommy turned down his proposal to take over the family business.
What that means though, we’ve now got to wait to find out.
The mysterious new character married Michael after allegedly falling pregnant with his baby (we’ll believe it when we see it) and as it turns out, her family has a connection to drug trafficking over in the States.
Are the Peaky Blinders, who are falling apart at the seems literally and mentally, about to go head to head with the Mafia?
If that’s the case, you better hope that they’re in better standing than the way they are now.
Creator Steven Knight is well underway writing season 6, and by the sounds of it, it’s going to be amazing…but there’s one slight hitch that might annoy fans.
‘I start later this year and then we shoot next year and I have no idea when it would be out,’ he added to the show. ‘Maybe early 2021, something like that?’
We’ve got to wait HOW LONG?!
By the sounds of it though, it’s going to be worth it, and Anthony suggested that there’s more to meet the eye in the field that ended on the cliffhanger that gave us more questions than answers.
‘I had no idea [what was happening in the field],’ he revealed. ‘I mean I do now. At the time when we were shooting it. Nobody knew, so I wanted to commit to playing it. Cillian didn’t know either.’
‘I checked my email [after filming] and episode one of season 6 had just arrived and I went “Oh f**k, do you want to know what happens after what we’ve just watched?”,’ he continued.
‘Then I sat on the couch and started reading it and my editor was sitting beside me just going “Woah!” and “f**k!”’
Guys, you’re killing us here. Let’s hope we’re resurrected in time for the show’s return. Just like you know who.
Peaky Blinders is available on BBC iPlayer now and airs globally on Netflix from 5 October
