As the spooky season looms for another year, Netflix is swapping out festive frights for major A-list movies in the coming October.
While September felt like a quiet month on the streaming platform before The Politician’s late arrival, Netflix is throwing out some big guns in a possible bid to distract from Disney+ and Apple TV’s impending launch.
So what’s being dangled before your eyes this month? Here’s everything coming to Netflix in October.
Rhythm + Flow – 9 October
Cardi B, Chance The Rapper and T.I. or Tip have joined forces to search for undiscovered hip-hop talent across Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City.
Imagine a competition like American Idol, only looser, shorter, and with an unleashed Cardi B. A recipe for talent show success? We’re hoping and praying.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie – 11 October
Easily the biggest Netflix event for October, Breaking Bad’s movie follow-up El Camino looks to answer what happened to Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) after he escaped white supremacist clutches in the final episode.
With the show’s creator Vince Gilligan at the helm and the promise of many returning Breaking Bad characters, it’s hard to believe this will be anything but a worthy, thrilling return.
The Laundromat – 18 October
In what’s touted for award season success, Steven Soderbergh’s The Laundromat sees Meryl Streep play a widow hot on the heels of insurance fraud which stems back to a pair of Panama City law partners played by Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas.
With the amount of talent behind and in front of the camera, along with Oldman on refreshingly jovial form, this looks like a serious contender for a rare breakout Netflix movie.
Daybreak – 24 October
Ever imagined what Riverdale crossed with Mad Max would look like? Daybreak looks to answer your messed up, beautiful dreams with one drop of a radiation cloud.
Based on the comic series by Brian Ralph and starring Matthew Broderick, this new series holds an abundance of promise if it can live up to the zany trailer.
Dolemite Is My Name – 25 October
In one of his first roles in years, Eddie Murphy plays real-life comedian, musician, and actor Rudy Ray Moore, known for his alter ego Dolemite who became a 1970s Blaxploitation phenomenon.
Directed by Craig Brewer (who is also working with Eddie on the Coming To America sequel), the incredible cast of Tituss Burgess, Craig Robinson, Keegan-Michael Key and Wesley Snipes is a worthy selling point alone.
