The 15th series of The Apprentice got underway tonight with Lord Alan Sugar firing his first hopeful from the competition.
Shahin Hassan was let go after failing to make any sales and for ruining his colleague Thomas Skinner’s business deal as the teams were tasked with creating, setting up and running a bespoke tour on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa.
The 16 contestants were divided up into girls and boys before beginning the challenge, with the girls coming up with luxury wine tasting with their rivals establishing a safari.
However, the boys didn’t manage to make the most profit and project manager Lewis Ellis brought Shahin and Dean Ahmad back into the boardroom to face Lord Sugar – and it couldn’t have been more explosive.
Lewis raged as his team questioned why they’d been dragged into the lion’s den, causing Lord Sugar to call out their ‘unprofessional squabbling.’
‘Let’s calm down a second,’ he interrupted. ‘Let’s try and have a professional discussion.’
However, the business mogul had soon heard enough and revealed who he was going to kick out from the process to win a life-changing £250,000 investment.
‘My decision is, Lewis I have to say as the project manager one is bitterly disappointed and I’m also bit disappointed in your outburst of temper,’ Lord Sugar said.
‘Having said that, Shahin you didn’t sell, it’s as simple as that. You lost the task on sales. It is with regret that Shahin, you’re fired.’
Sat in the iconic black cab on his journey back home, Shahin was unimpressed by being booted from the competition after the first episode.
‘I’m very disappointed to leave at such an early stage,’ he admitted.
‘It should have been Lewis, but ultimately it was Lord Sugar’s decision and I’ll have to live with that.’
Iconic.
The Apprentice continues Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
