King Corbin has joked he owes Dwayne Johnson ‘a beating’ after their clash on Friday Night SmackDown earlier this year.
The WWE superstar shared the ring with Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and The Rock himself as the Hollywood star returned to the show that made him famous at the Staples Center in Los Angeles back in October, and he admitted working with a legend was ‘a cool moment’.
Appearing on Fox 1’s WWE Backstage show this week, he said: ‘It was truly a special moment, I think because I get to share a ring with an icon. He truly is. If you’re ever around him, there’s something about him that makes you go, “This dude’s a star”.
‘Even if you had no clue who he is, if he were to walk into the room you’d go, “Whoa, that dude’s special”. It was a cool moment to be in the ring with him, eating the Rock Bottom and the People’s Elbow, another cool moment.
‘Just, he’s one of the best ever on the mic. There’s a few people in that category that are like, “These are the best dudes ever on the mic”… I felt like I hung with him, and now I owe him a beating.’
The star – who went by the name Baron Corbin before adopting his royal moniker after winning this year’s King of the Ring tournament – was appearing on the spin-off panel show with former world champion CM Punk, who offered a lighthearted ‘thank you’ at the mention of the best talkers of all time.
Referencing Punk’s infamous ‘pipe bomb’ promo addressing the state of the WWE in a very frank monologue back in 2011, Baron added: ‘You know, you can do it because you’ve done amazing – people think of you, they go, “Oh, the pipe bomb”. There’s very few people that can do that.’
The former NFL sportsman previously opened up about how it was a ‘dream’ to get to meet Johnson when he made his return back in October.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk just hours before finding out they’d be working together, Corbin gushed: ‘That’s a dream come true. I’ve been here seven years, I don’t think I’ve ever met him. I may have walked by him running around doing something at ‘Mania.
‘He’s coming to be a part of the show, he’s probably the biggest icon on the face of the earth right now. For him to find time to part of this shows how big it really is!’
