Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe has teased the possibility of more time-travel in the upcoming fifth season.

The actress – who plays time-travelling nurse Claire in the fantasy drama – refused to say whether her character will be moving between past and present in the new run of episodes.

The show follows Claire, who finds herself pulled from 1946 to Scotland in 1743, where she meets (and eventually marries) the enigmatic Jamie Fraser.

The fourth season ended on a massive cliffhanger, with Jamie being given an order to kill his godfather Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix).

The last series also saw Claire’s daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) travel back in time to reunite with her mum and dad.

But Claire herself has kept her cards very close to her chest in terms of spoilers.

‘I wish I could tell you so many things but we’re not allowed,’ the actress shared. ‘But, you never know, it’s always an element of our show.’

The show’s delayed fifth season isn’t even debuting until February 2020, but we have already been given a first glimpse of what to come – from both time travel to the return of John Grey.

There are strong hints than ever that a journey in time will happen and our heroine seems pretty determined to keep her brood safe. Whether that’s the future’s advanced weapons or medication, we’ll have to find out.

‘It’s safer in the future,’ we hear her say. ‘It’s time.’

In fact, putting our detective hat on, we can see that some behind-the-scenes snaps may have already revealed that Claire travels to the 1960s.

The Evening Times released snaps of the Irish star driving a vintage American car through the streets.

She was wearing a white trench coat similar to the one worn in season three when she was last in the 20th century, and her hair was styled into a 1960s-style bob.

Outlander seasons 1-4 are now available to stream on Amazon Prime.
