EastEnders addressed the Boris Johnson election win in a special scene aired on Friday – and they couldn’t help but have a dig at Boris Johnson hiding in a fridge.

The discussion was held between Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), and Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell).

During the brief chat outside the cafe, Karen joked about going to hide in the fridge….

She starts the conversation by exclaiming: ‘I would rather eat a box of washing powder than to listen to any more politics.’

Kathy responded: ‘Ian thinks it’s a sign.’

‘I’ll give him a sign and a mop to put on his head,’ Karen added.

Kathy responded: ‘I just think people voted for something three years ago and they want that to happen, everyone is sick of being stuck and going nowhere.’

‘I hope the country isn’t broken by the time I get to vote,’ Billy chipped in.

Karen ended the conversation before she walked off with, ‘I am going to go hide in the fridge.’

It’s not the first time that the BBC soap has dipped its toes into the world of politics as they have inserted scenes before where some of the characters have discussed the Brexit referendum.

Several celebrities have also weighed in on the election including Rachel Riley and Lily Allen.

The pop star who has been very vocal about her views has since deleted her Twitter account.  She initially suggested her Conservative counterparts had voted for ‘kids to die with no healthcare’.

She also accused them of backing Boris Johnson because they want ‘less brown people’ in the country.

The pop star appeared optimistic as the results of the exit poll came out, tweeting: ‘Still holding out for a Labour majority.’

But as Labour’s red wall gradually collapsed and candidates holding their seats saw their majorities shrink the singer went on the offensive.

The Countdown star has also been vocal of her criticism of Labour, and particularly party leader Jeremy Corbyn, throughout the election.

And the pregnant 33-year-old thanked Britain as the exit polls signalled a major Tory win.

Rachel, who is married to former Strictly Come Dancing professional Pasha Kovalev, tweeted: ‘Love you Britain 🇬🇧🙏❤️.’

What else happened on EastEnders on Friday?

On Friday we also saw the return of Rainie Branning (Tanya Franks) as the last we saw her she was sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth).

After fighting with Max (Jake Wood) over baby Abi, Rainie went through a difficult period earlier this year, and she ended up addicted to drugs once more. However, Stuart resolved to stick by her no matter what, and he did his best to help her through her tough time.

With Rainie having realised that she needed some time away from Walford, she punched Kathy in the face and called the police so that she could be sent to prison.

Having been given a three-month sentence, Rainie’s been off our screens for quite some time — and Stuart has done everything he can to prove himself in her absence.

EastEnders continues Monday 16th December at 8pm on BBC One.
