Emily Berrington has claimed she was pressured by a director to film nude scenes for a BBC drama.
The 34-year-old Humans actress, who had landed a role in a role in Close To The Enemy, alleged that director Stephen Poliakoff became enraged when she requested outlines of potential nude scenes for the 2016 mini-series.
She added that his reaction reduced her to tears and led her to quit the drama.
Although no nude scenes were ever shot, Emily recalled her pre-shoot conversation with Poliakoff and claimed: ‘He started shouting really aggressively and saying I was being precious, and it was too difficult to work with actresses like me.
‘He said, “With scenes like this, I shoot what I want and I show what I want”.’
Poliakoff has denied Emily’s allegations and said he was ‘sorry to hear she is upset’.
‘This is not my recollection of the conversation and, as I recall, my main purpose of the discussion — which took place a couple of months before the actual shoot — was to reassure her in a supportive way about the role,’ he said in a statement.
The BBC also added: ‘We take the greatest care when including intimate scenes in any drama, and we expect all our productions to work to the highest standard of integrity in this regard.’
Close To The Enemy is a British period drama set in the late 1940s in London and starred the likes of Jim Sturgess, Freddie Highmore, Charlotte Riley
The series aired on BBC Two back in 2016, with the first episode attracting 3.22million viewers.
Emily isn’t the first actress to have recently claimed she was pressured into doing nude scenes.
Back in November, Emilia Clarke was told that she would ‘disappoint’ Game Of Thrones fans if she didn’t do nude scenes.
Speaking to Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast, she said: ‘I’ve had fights on set before where I’m like, “No, the sheet stays up”, and they’re like, “You don’t wanna disappoint your Game of Thrones fans”. And I’m like, “F*** you”.’
