Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter wore a bandage on her nose during her This Morning appearance after she had her skin cancer growth removed.
The 73-year-old spoke to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield via video link on Monday’s instalment when she was quizzed on why she was wearing a plaster on her nose.
‘Janet, we’ve got to ask straight away, what’s the plaster on your nose?’ Phillip asked.
To which she replied: ‘Well, I had a small Basal cell carcinoma skin cancer growth taken off my nose a week ago.’
‘I’m gonna be lifting the plaster off and talking about it on Loose Women on Wednesday, but I’m fine,’ she continued.
‘I did have a white plaster on and I thought this one was a bot more aesthetically pleasing, but now I can see myself, it looks frightening.’
Janet explained to her Loose Women co-stars last week that she found out she had a basal cell carcinoma on her nose just three days before coronavirus lockdown was announced.
A basal cell is a common form of the disease and is one of three main types of cells in the top layer of the skin.
‘I showed this tiny spot on my nose to a dermatologist and he immediately referred me to a consultant and they said I’ve got a basel cell carcinoma, which is a form of skin cancer,’ Janet began.
‘If untreated it could grow. It has to be removed otherwise it’s going to get bigger and bigger. Also, I could be left with a very big scar.
‘I was about to have it removed then lockdown happened three days before I was supposed to have it removed.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
