Drag Race’s Gia Gunn on trans debate with RuPaul, staged argument scenes and UK series

Gia Gunn might not have won Drag Race or All Stars, but she sure as hell has left an incredible legacy behind her.

Being the first ever transgender woman to compete on RuPaul’s masterpiece, she has high hopes that the series will continue to diversify and she plans to keep repping trans excellence.

Metro.co.uk caught up with Gia to discuss all things relating to the VH1 show, including where she’s at following Ru’s controversial transphobic comments one year later, the show’s filming secrets and of course the upcoming Brit edition.

Trans debate with RuPaul

RuPaul made headlines last March after he made controversial comments saying he wouldn’t let transgender women compete on the series.

The 58-year-old television personality later issued a grovelling apology, before welcoming Gia back onto the show for All Stars 4.

Reflecting on Mama Ru’s initial words, Gia told us: ‘I think myself and many other members of the community were a bit hurt just because there are so many trans people who season after season have considered trying out and hoped that one day they would be good enough to make it on.

‘But then to hear the father of the show come forward and basically say no matter how talented you are, you will not most likely be on the show due to you being who you are… I think that’s a pretty grand and very drastic and harsh statement.

‘But Ru apologised and I think then that apology was further driven by inviting me onto All Stars. I think that was her way of showing that the show is all-inclusive and that it really doesn’t matter.’

Gia isn’t holding a grudge against Ru though and she’s grateful she got the opportunity to return to the show, adding: ‘I don’t think that he was wrong because it was his idea of what a drag queen is or what a contestant should be. It’s his show. If anybody is going to make those rules it is him.

‘In terms of me personally, I was invited to go on the show and I was able to bring trans representation on the show.

‘We just have to focus on the positive and moving forward and realising that I was honoured to be the first openly trans person on the show after so many seasons.

‘It’s a lot of good things that I took away from being on the season. I look forward to continuing to spread my own message of love when it comes to all of this and continuing to represent the show and trans excellence at its finest.’

Staged argument scenes

Gia spilled the T on how Drag Race is filmed, smashing illusion that it’s all completely off the cuff.

The 28-year-old performer confirmed that her clash with joint winner Trinity The Tuck during All Stars was made up for the cameras, explaining that the queens’ savage quips fired in each other’s direction are created for entertainment purposes.

‘I mean it’s a TV show,’ she began, ‘for those of us know how TV works, we can create what it is that viewers want to see without breaking any relationships or creating any bad feelings or really insulting one another.

Trinity The Tuck and Gia Gunn faked their spat on Drag Race (Picturet: Getty)

‘A lot of what was done on Drag Race was quite intentional. Not everything is as glamorous and that’s the whole art of TV production.’

But that’s not to say it wasn’t totally ad lib, with Gia explaining: ‘Back in season six I didn’t really know how it worked. I also think that creates good TV as well. People are super candid and super unexpected.

‘If it’s just us being in the work room, that’s just one long day.’

Upcoming UK series

Drag Race is jumping across the pond for the first time in its history, with BBC Three confirming that Graham Norton and Alan Carr will be joining Ru as judges.

‘Once it actually starts happening I’ll definitely be watching,’ Gia enthused. ‘My biggest advice is be true to yourself and be super natural. Don’t be afraid to give it your full potential because it only happens once and you want to make an impression.

Graham Norton for Drag Race UK

‘Everything I did has certainly got me to where I am now. I think I’m doing just fine. I try to live my life without any regrets.

‘Realistically, what really matters is how you move forward, how you get past, where you’re going. I try to tell myself that every day. Keep your eye on the prize.

‘I think you have to remember to stay positive when it comes to life and being yourself. It’s super important and necessary. If you don’t, who will.’

Future of Drag Race

Drag Race aired a total of three seasons last year, with the eleventh season having kick started just last month – but there’s still a long way to go.

‘I think the show has opened up everyone’s idea of what drag is and so I think now that means it’s open for all genders, all types of people and all walks of life,’ Gia said.

‘I’d like to see more of that. Giving diversity to a different dynamic which is very valid and very important. Also keeping up with the times. I think we see so much diversity in the community, but on TV we don’t.’

Comic Relief 2019 has already seen its fair share of gruelling challenges – not least of which was the celebrity climb of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The challenge saw nine famous faces – among them Ed Balls and Dani Dyer – attempting to scale the peak to raise money ahead of Red Nose Day on 15 March.

While all those involved finished the climb, it wasn’t without its challenging moments, with the celebs battling sickness and lack of oxygen en route.

They all made it to the top and back down again safely though.

But just how dangerous is the mountain – and are you taking your life in your hands by heading up there in the first place?

Here’s what you need to know.

Can you die from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro?

Yes, it’s entirely possible to die from climbing the mountain, as it’s one of the most dangerous things a person can possibly do.

Around 30,000 people climb Kilimanjaro every year, and around 10 deaths per year are reported, although the true figure may be higher.

Approximately 1,000 people are also evacuated from the mountain annually.

According to the website Ultimate Kilimanjaro, the main cause of death is altitude sickness caused by oxygen deprivation.

It’s generally caused when the body fails to acclimatise to the heights being scaled.

MasterChef contestant reduced to tears after overcooking pork loin

MasterChef contestant Thomas was reduced to tears on Wednesday night after his overcooked pork tenderloin failed to wow judges John Torode, Gregg Walace and guest star Michel Roux Junior.

The 25-year-old from Devon plated up the meat alongside mash potato with an onion jus, sweetbreads, chestnut and mushroom stuffing, braised onions, green beans and an onion puree for the Invention Test round, but left it cooking a little longer than he should have – unlike poor old Ottillie who presented the duo with raw chicken last month.

‘The pork loin for me is slightly overcooked,’ said Michel upon sampling the goods.

John followed suit, adding: ‘Your pork loin is drying on the outside, and then you’ve hacked at it rather than carving it properly.’

Thomas presented the MasterChef gang with overcooked pork tenderloin (Picture: BBC)

But Gregg wasn’t so harsh, saying: ‘I really like your flavours. I think you’ve got to make an effort with your presentation with your dishes because it’s really letting you down.’

Thomas wiped away tears as he later talked to the camera.

‘It wasn’t all bad. It’s just not what you want,’ he said. ‘There was some really good stuff as well, it’s just that you push yourself to do your best and when you don’t hit your best, it’s really difficult.’

Viewers at home felt sympathetic towards Thomas, ackowledging that his tears were a sign of how much he wanted to stay in the competition.

‘Aww want to hug Thomas and tell him he’s lovely,’ wrote one as another echoed, ‘Oh Thomas, don’t cry.’

Fortunately for Thomas, his overdone meat wasn’t enough to send him packing and instead Paul was sent home, noting: ‘I’ve got to improve.

‘I’ve got to step it up a level now.’

MasterChef continues on Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.

Val Garland, one of the best make-up artists the fashion industry has to offer, has joined Stacey Dooley and fellow beauty industry pro Dominic Skinner as a judge on BBC Three’s new competition Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star.

The first season of Glow Up is already underway, as we see a group of aspiring make-up artists set challenges based on professional assignments, in addition to themed creative challenges.

Speaking on the subject of her new role as competition judge, Val said: ‘I’m so very excited to be part of this brand new series, finding the next amazing talent of make-up artists.’

‘What I’m looking for is skill, creativity, the ability to adapt in any given situation,’ she added. ‘I’m looking for someone who works well under pressure, could read the brief behind the brief, even if there is no brief! This person has to have an incredible attitude, be able to feel comfortable in any situation and deliver.’

She also warned: ‘What won’t impress me? Don’t give me diva, don’t give me attitude, don’t try to sell me something that I don’t believe in.’

Keen to know more about Val’s industry expertise? Then you’re in the right place…

Val Garland’s make-up career in the fashion industry

Val Garland, 60, hails from Bristol, England, and started her career in beauty as a hairdresser.

In an interview with Fashionista last year, Val said: ‘I didn’t plan to be a hairdresser, I just fell into it.

‘I also felt like, I’ll be a hairdresser while I work at the bigger picture, and the bigger picture was always going to be travel.

‘Doing hair I actually found that I wasn’t bad at it, I was actually quite good at it.’

From there, she went on to work as a hairdresser in Sydney, in a salon where fashion editors and modelling agencies would send their models to get their hair done, and so she made her first industry connections.

When describing her transition into make-up from hair, Val said she was effectively ‘bullied into it’.

She said: ‘I kind of knew all those people in that world and they all used to get me to come along and do test shoots and do the hair, and they would talk to me like, ‘You wear so much makeup, you should really do the makeup.’

‘I thought, I’m not interested in makeup, I like doing hair. Then I basically got bullied into it, really. One day the makeup artist didn’t turn up. So off I went.’

And now, after 30 years in the business, she isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

In 2018, she came out with the book Validated: The Makeup of by Val Garland, in which she explores some of the highlights of her career, her inspirations, and what it’s like working with cultural icons like Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Edward Enninful, Nick Knight, and Kate Moss, alongside campaign and catwalk photos of her work through the years.

Now, aside from judging Glow Up, Val is the L’Oreal Paris Global Makeup Director, in addition to a British Vogue Contributing Beauty Editor.

Episodes of Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star are being released online on BBC Three on Wednesdays, as well as being shown on BBC One from 10.35pm.

Paul Martin has landed a brand new presenting gig five months after Flog It! was axed after 17 years.

The 60-year-old will front fresh BBC One series Curiosity, which will put contestant’s knowledge of history, antiques and collectables to the test.

Two teams use their skills, expertise and intuition, against the clock, to value and date the items in Paul’s fictional shop.

Talking about the new game show, which he created with his wife Charlotte, Paul enthused: ‘We took inspiration from The Crystal Maze. There are four room which span four centuries and a central area where the quiz takes place.

‘Contestants who complete challenges win items which are curiously curated and added up in value, with the highest value collection winning the chance to swapping the their collection for an item in the curiosity shop, which could make or lose them money.’

He added to Irish News: ‘The losers get a Curiosity mug – a piece of tat from a junk shop that we put a logo on –which could be priceless in years to come, if the show is a success.’

Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC Programming and Daytime, said: ‘This year I’m excited to be bringing BBC viewers a new generation of daytime series, often entertaining, sometimes serious, and always high-quality.’

Curiosity is expected to air on the BBC in April.

Rose’s true motives are out in the open, Leah’s family is falling apart, and there’s only one episode to go. We have questions.

Rose didn’t want to be anywhere near her in the hospital, what happened between them?

6. What will Ben do?

Ben is besotted with Rose and would do anything for her. Does his loyalty extend to covering up murders?

Dan Walker loves talking about poo as he chats with Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall about bathroom habits

Viewers of tonight’s Comic Relief Kilimanjaro: The Return crew were left in stitches after BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker spoke about his poo habits.

Piers Morgan will have a field day with this on GMB tomorrow…

The morning presenter was shown tonight climbing the peak with Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall as he detailed the start of what he’s titled The Poo Club.

A little different to Fight Club, with the first rule being you don’t talk about it, that’s exactly what the 41-year-old did tonight.

METROGRAB: Dan Walker has Comic Relief viewers in stitches as he details 'poo club' on Kilimanjaro
The gang all gathered to talk about their current stool state (Picture: BBC)

After ducking away for a bathroom moment in the bushes he returned with a face of triumph.

‘I just joined the poo club by the way,’ he said, running along behind Jade. ‘Big moment for us.’

She added: ‘What a dream team we are.’

Tonight’s episode had a lot of bodily functions mentioned.

Ed Balls was whistling whilst on the toilet earlier on in the piece, seemingly pretty happy with his place in the aforementioned club.

Then Pointless’s Alexander Armstrong basically detailed that they all talk about everything including bodily functions – guess that’s what happens when you grow close climbing a massive mountain.

Dan late continued his ode to stools, as he said: ‘I like talking about poo, so that’s fine by me. I find it liberating.’

Taking a moment to rest amid the tough climb, the team then went through the Bristol stool chart which details the seven different types of poo.

Viewers thought the whole thing was a riot as they reacted on social media.

‘@mrdanwalker might have to watch the rest of this on catch up…just got in and sat down for tea…had no idea you’d talk about poo this much (pasta and meatballs if you’re interested),’ one said, before commending the crew on their job. ‘Well done though.’

Another was a little more straight forward, as they said: ‘@mrdanwalker Poo Club. And there’s a chart. Who knew?’

Another was a fan that Jade was in the crew, as they chimed in: ‘Ofc Jade has to be in the Poo Club she is my poopey.’

Some of Britain’s much-loved entertainers have been climbing Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for the charity and all nine celebrities who started the challenge have now made it to the summit.

There’s a big variety there, with two of the Little Mixers getting stuck in; Jade and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. They’re joined by Pointless host Alexander, and pundit and former NFL star Osi Umenyiora.

BBC Breakfast’s Dan, the tallest member of the group, saw Comic Relief joking that he’d be the tallest man on the whole continent of Africa when he reached the summit.

Shirley Ballas and Dani Dyer have struck up a friendship during their time scaling the peaks, as well, along with Politician Ed and TV presenter Anita Rani.

Things got seriously heated on The Bachelor as Robyn Tollady stormed out of the rose-giving ceremony, moments after Alex Marks decided to send her home.

And it was awkward.

The 31-year-old decided to take Alicia, Charlotte E and Charlotte T on the final trip to Antigua, leaving her to return to Liverpool solo.

His decision understandably left her upset – having introduced him to her friends and family in a hometown date just days before.

And also it means the 28-year-old misses out on a free holiday to actual paradise.

Cameras chased Robyn as she walked out of the ceremony, fuming to host Mark Wright: ‘How can he say what he’s said to me, been how he’s been, who does that?’

While Alex told the cameras: ‘As hard as it is, I know that it’s the right thing to do because, at the end of the day…

‘She’s just done so much for me…’

Things were a little more civil between the pair when they came face-to-face for the last time, with the singleton attempting to explain his decision.

‘I’m sorry I can’t take you further,’ he told her. ‘I’ve known we have a connection, but I didn’t know how deep or how far it was going to go. That’s where I’m struggling to see passed.

‘I’m sure that I can see myself devoting more than a friendship from me to you.’

‘Good luck, I hope you find what you’re looking for,’ she told him.

Robyn’s departure means Alex is down to three lucky ladies in his quest to find love.

However, a teaser for tomorrow night’s episode shows he’s more confused than ever about who he wants to get to know better.

Who will he pick?

The Bachelor continues on weekdays, at 10pm, on Channel 5.

A resurfaced episode of Full House shows Lori Loughlin’s character admitting to ‘lying’ about her children’s school admissions forms, just as the actress was arrested in relation to a college admissions scam in real life.

The 54-year-old actress handed herself into authorities on Wednesday in relation to an FBI investigation about parents allegedly making payments to schools such as Yale, Stanford, Georgetown and USC to ensure their children get in.

Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman was also arrested in the case.

Now, a 1993 episode of Full House, titled Be True To Your Preschool, shows her character Becky Katsopolis discovering that her husband Jesse, played by John Stamos, had ‘embellished’ the application form to get their twin sons into a prestigious preschool.

Jesse falsely claimed that their sons, Nicholas and Alexander, were bilingual and played the bassoon, while adding that he was an ambassador.

He told his wife: ‘The most important thing in the world right now is their education. I’m their father – if I don’t lie for them, who will?’

Lori allegedly paid a bribe for her daughter Olivia’s education (Picture: FilmMagic)

Aunt Becky then confessed to the admissions director, saying: ‘Look, I have to be honest. He may have embellished – lied – a bit on our application.

The school teacher then sympathised: ‘It only shows you want what’s best for your boys.’

In a former episode of Desperate Housewives, Huffman’s character Lynette Scavo paid a bribe to her son’s rival baseball team and his coach to keep him on the team.

Lori was released on a $1 million (£751,365) bail on Wednesday hours after she she flew back to the States from Canada to turn herself in.

The TV star and her husband Mossimo Giannulli were indicted for their alleged involvement in the college admissions scam. Giannulli was arrested on Tuesday morning and later released after being set a $1million bond and forced to surrender his passport.

Loughlin and Mossimo allegedly agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 to get their two daughters onto the USC crew team.

Victoria star Jenna Coleman says she could eventually be recast.

As the monarch gets older, another actress may have to step in to play Victoria in her later years.

Coleman admitted that it would be difficult to let go of the role after so many years.

Speaking at a press event she said: ‘There’s going to come a point where I have to.

‘The idea I’ll be playing Victoria meeting Abdul is not really possible. But it’s going to be a hard thing to give over, especially as she gets older.

‘[Recasting] brings a lot of challenges and it’s hard as an actor – when you’ve taken it so far it’s hard to give it up.’

She also suggested actresses who could take over.

Jenna admits it would be hard to give the role to someone else (Picture: ITV)

Jenna said: ‘There’s lots of people. Helena Bonham Carter would be good, but she’s busy right now. Olivia Colman was so good in The Favourite but she’s busy too.’

Meanwhile her co-star Tom Hughes, who plays Prince Albert, added: ‘They may choose to [recast], I don’t know. I hope I am able to finish his story because we’re close to finishing his story, relatively.’

Tom Hughes plays Prince Albert (Picture: ITV)

However there likely won’t be a change up any time soon, as writer Daisy Goodwin explained that there is at least one more series with the current cast.

Daisy said: ‘In a way it’s the culmination of their story. And then? Who knows. Definitely at some point we’d have to re-cast. Right now, Jenna’s playing her real age which works brilliantly.

‘I think she could play ten years older and she very brilliantly did ten years younger [in series one] but I think 20 years older would be a stretch.

‘When actors have to spend another hour in makeup every morning, it’s no longer fun. We’ll see.’

Victoria series three will see the queen face pressure to leave London as a revolution is in the air. Her sister, who has been living in Germany, will also drop in for a visit.

Victoria returns 24 March on ITV

Clayne Crawford will be returning to our TV screens for the first time since his unceremonious Lethal Weapon firing in Hulu anthology series, Into The Dark.

The actor was a the centre of a huge controversy surrounding Lethal Weapon, resulting in him being fired completely from the project, despite being leading man, Riggs.

However, in Into The Dark, Crawford will be taking on a more dramatic and less action-filled role, playing a struggling dad in episode They Come Knocking.

According to TVLine, the widowed dad will take his children on a road trip, where they encounter a number of ‘terrifying supernatural entities’.

Crawford has been laying low since last year after it was announced in May that his contract was not being renewed on Lethal Weapon.

The TV series reboot of the Mel Gibson 80s film classic, the actor starred as a livewire cop who is partnered with Damon Wayans’ Murtaugh.

However, their off-screen feuding soon caused problems, and Crawford was accused of being intimidating on set and during a stint in the director’s chair, put Wayans in a position to be hit in the head with shrapnel.

While he later apologised, blaming ‘dangerous work conditions’ for his outbursts, it wasn’t enough, and a few weeks later he was released from the show.

In August last year, he added that the scale of his anger outbursts were ‘blatant fucking lies’ and said he was forced to attend six weeks of anger management and attend set with an escort.

Instead of replacing his character in any way, the Lethal Weapon team instead decided to bring in a new and original character, with Seann William Scott taking on the new leading man role.

Into The Dark will air on Hulu in June.

Paul Hollywood's estranged wife calls split 'toughest time of my life' as Bake Off judge romances 23-year-old

Revenge is a dish best served cold – and that’s exactly what Paul Hollywood’s ex-wife Alex must be feeling now after replacing her former spouse on BBC Good Food.

Following their break-up, with Paul ending his 20-year marriage to start a relationship with 23-year-old Summer Monteys-Fullam, Alex is now relaunching her career as a fellow TV cook.

Which couldn’t be more perfect in timing for her close pal Mary Berry, who was in need of a co-host for BBC’s Good Food Show after falling out with Paul last year.

The couple were together for 20 years before their split (Picture: Getty)

According to The Sun, Paul has been given the push from the series, and it’s been claimed that Alex will now take his place alongside Mary in future episodes.

‘To avoid any awkwardness with Paul, she’s more than happy to work with Alex and help boost her profile as a budding celebrity cook,’ a source told the paper.

Metro.co.uk have contacted reps for comment.

Before the break-up, they had briefly split in 2013 after he confessed to sleeping with Marcella Valladolid, his co-star in the US version of the Bake Off.

At the end of 2018, the TV cooking expert went public with Summer, and has now even splashed out on a fancy new farmhouse in order to start a home with her.

Alex later said she was hurt at his behaviour and decision to end the marriage, but wasn’t angry.

‘Paul and I had an ordinary marriage,’ she told to Prima Magazine. ‘It lasted 19 years with a hiccup in the middle and then an abrupt end. But I have a son and I had to be strong for him.

‘No one should underestimate how separation and divorce can hit you. I compare it to a moment where you’re driving along the motorway and then the next moment, something beyond your control happens and you’re driving in a completely wrong direction.’

‘You have to give yourself time to get your head round it,’ she added. ‘We all reflect differently and I went into automatic pilot to start with. I think I went through the same five stages of grief that a bereaved person does [denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance]. Being able to be weak is a strength too, and it’s okay to sit and have a cry.’

Status Quo frontman Francis Rossi has opened up about his past drink and drug abuse, admitting he’s ‘ashamed’ of his hellraiser days.

The 69-year-old rocker appeared on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain to discuss his new book I Talk Too Much: My Autobiography, in which he speaks honestly about his wild antics in the midst of Status Quo’s heyday.

Speaking to hosts Kate Garraway and Susanna Reid, Rossi admitted: ‘The problem being for me, which is strange for society, was the alcohol led me to doing cocaine.

‘If I hadn’t have had alcohol, I wouldn’t have gone there. Alcohol does that thing to all of us and off I went.’

Exposing his vulnerability, Rossi continued: ‘It’s odd because yes, I wanted to be famous but there’s one side of me that’s jack the lad and full of it, and the other side of me that’s totally insecure and I’m always trying to get the person down the middle.

‘When I’m the person down the middle, I’m OK. Tricky, tough life but that’s everybody isn’t it.’

Francis regrets his hellraiser days (Picture: ITV)

Rossi also recalled Status Quo’s iconic Live Aid performance of Rockin’ All Over The World in 1985 and admitted: ‘The whole band were, I was drinking, I think.

‘The band weren’t getting on so well and [Bob] Geldof used that up-starter thing that he was at the time to force us all to do it. It wasn’t until we all saw the amount of media that we became aware of how important it was.

‘The sense of euphoria from the audience was quite unique and of course with us so-called rock stars, I said “oh, I can’t go on after them”. So Rick and I said, we’re on first, we’re finished and off we went.

‘No one realised what was going to happen that day.’

Rossi also revealed his biggest regrets of the past, sharing: ‘Regret is definitely that period of alcohol and cocaine, and probably walking out on my first daughter’s mother.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.

Warning: Article contains spoilers for Cheat episode three

Katherine Kelly wasn’t embarrassed by her masturbation scene in Cheat.

Episode one saw university lecturer Leah masturbate in the toilets while fantasising about one of her colleagues.

Kelly said performing the intimate scene wasn’t uncomfortable in any way because she used to sex scenes.

‘I have done sex scenes a lot before, I had my fair share of them in Mr Selfridge. I have had two children and after childbirth, you are not embarrassed by anything,’ the actress told The Sun.

Katherine added that ‘women masturbate as much as men’, and explained that it was a way for Leah to release her ‘frustrations’ surrounding her marriage.

Her comments come amid claims that the moment prompted 500,000 viewers to switch off, The Sun says.

According to Broadcast, the launch episode fetched 5million viewers, making it ITV’s second most-watched Monday night drama after Manhunt, starring Martin Clunes, in January which saw 6million tune in.

Katherine’s character is unhappily married to another lecturer Adam, with the couple trying for a baby.

But her world falls apart when Adam sexts with student Rose (Molly Windsor) and eventually sleeps with her.

The series has been spread across four nights with the final episode airing tonight.

Kelly stars opposite Molly Windsor in Cheat (Picture: ITV)

It follows Leah and Rose’s dangerous and ultimately fatal battle of wits after Leah accuses her student of cheating in an essay.

Wednesday’s episode saw Rose’s motivations come to light when Leah’s dad revealed Rose is actually his daughter from an affair years ago, making her Leah’s half-sister.

If you want to catch up on what’s been going on, check out our spoilery review here, then take a deep dive and read the questions we need answered in the finale right here.

It’s a two-hour special edition of the show – so you’ll have to wait up until nearly midnight to find out who is crowned winner.

Wednesday night’s dramatic semi-final saw Alicia, Charlotte E and Charlotte T make it to the last stage of the competition.

Alex chose to eliminate Robyn in the rose-giving ceremony, leading to some serious awkwardness as she stormed out, furious.

Robyn – who had been introduced to Alex’s friends and family in a hometown date just days earlier, told Wright: ‘How can he say what he’s said to me?’

Alex later explained to her: ‘I’ve known we have a connection, but I didn’t know how deep or how far it was going to go. That’s what I’m struggling to see past.’

Game Of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau defends Jaime and Cersei Lannister’s incestuous relationship

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has expressed how he doesn’t believe Jaime and Cersei Lannister’s romance on Game Of Thrones is particularly unusual, brushing the incest aside.

The twin siblings have formed the defining taboo relationship on the show, establishing a twisted, if sympathetic, power couple dynamic which has rippled throughout.

Speaking to Men’s Health about their romance, Nikolaj stated how he doesn’t see Jaime’s lust for Cersei as that odd, when taken outside the family context.

‘I think most people have at least been attracted to someone you shouldn’t be,’ Nikolaj said. ‘Not your sister, but someone you really shouldn’t fall in love with. Like your best friend’s girlfriend.

We. Are. Family. (Picture: HBO)

‘It’s one of the few true love stories in Game Of Thrones – Jaime is dedicated to this woman.’

The actor also praised showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff for sticking to their plan for the show, despite the overwhelming success and pressures from HBO.

Nikolaj said: ‘D.B Weiss and David Benioff stuck to their guns and said, “This is the story we wanna tell; we’re not gonna extend this” – because I’m sure HBO would have loved another couple years of this show.

‘There’s an audience for it, for sure. But I think everyone who watches the show will appreciate that it’s finished – that it was one story from episode one to episode 83, and we told it.’

The eighth and final season is a mere month away, with HBO recently releasing a spectacular trailer to skyrocket anticipation.

Game Of Thrones season eight kicks off on Sunday 14 April on HBO and Sky Atlantic.

The Simpsons producer hints at changes to come for problematic Apu after racial backlash: ‘He’s a work in progress’

Apu in The Simpsons
What’s the future for Apu in The Simpsons?

After The Simpsons fans called for Apu Nahasapeemapetilon to be pulled from the cartoon for perpetuating racial stereotypes, creator Al Jean has admitted there is work to be done on the Kwik-E-Mart owner.

Last year, producer and YouTuber Adi Shankar claimed The Simpsons were axing the long-running character following the 2017 documentary, The Problem With Apu.

Jean has now stressed that on the flip side, there’s plenty of support from the South Asian community for Homer’s long-term pal (voiced by Hank Azaria) too.

‘As a writer, I always wanted to make Apu an original character – more noble, more hardworking, and more intelligent than the average Simpsons character,’ Jean told The Daily Beast.

‘When we were doing Episode 4, there was a big joke that Reverend Lovejoy didn’t even know what religion he was, and Apu was just being this wonderful volunteer fireman, and there was an article in the Guardian recently by a South Asian writer who said that moment made him feel really proud.’

‘So I think there are a lot of things about Apu that have made South Asians very proud, and it’s a very complicated issue.’

Although, he added: ‘I apologise for anyone who was bullied because of Apu.

‘I hate bullies. I was bullied, and if you’re a bully I’ll kick your ass, so certainly that was wrong.’

As for the character’s future, Jean confessed it was a ‘work in progress’.

Apu has widely been described as ‘problematic’ at the very least, but the suggestion he should be dropped from The Simpsons completely proved to be a minefield of polarising opinions at the tail end of 2018.

Joe Mantega, who you may recognise as the voice of Fat Tony, explained to Metro.co.uk that it was a ‘tough one’ to address.

‘I find some of that controversy…sometimes I feel we’ve taken political correctness perhaps too far. I’m not a big advocate of censorship,’ the Criminal Minds star told us.

‘Times have changed, but in some ways we’re going backwards. They’re just words and if you start censoring certain things you give them a power.

‘Now you’re saying this is a magical kind of thing and you can’t touch that, you can’t say that. As opposed to just saying you have to be smart enough to understand we can do satire and say words…I think they’re putting braces on people’s minds.’

The Simpsons airs weeknights at 6pm on Channel 4.

Jussie Smollett’s Empire character spoke about a ‘tough week’ as the show came back to screens for the first time since the actor was arrested for allegedly ‘staging a hate crime’.

Jamal Lyon, played by Smollett, appeared in the episode filmed months before his alleged attack, called My Fault Is Past, addressing a high school crowd.

He said: ‘I don’t know if you’ve been reading the blogs, but it’s been kind of a tough week’.

It has been a tough week for Jussie too as the 36-year-old attended a court hearing on Tuesday, one he didn’t need to be present for.

According to TMZ the hearing was for his attorney, Mark Geragos, to file the paperwork so he can represent the actor and his case in Illinois. Jussie vehemently denies the charges and will defend the case.

My Fault Is Past also had parallels between Jamal’s gig addressing recent troubles, and Jussie’s real life concert in the wake of the supposed attack.

Jamal’s turbulent plot saw him discover that Jeff Kingsley, his family’ arch enemy, is in fact his half brother. He also split from fiance Kai as he wanted to stay loyal to the Lyon dynasty.

As his heartbreak and the family revelation weighed heavily on him, Jamal broke down alone in his apartment.

Jussie’s future on Empire is currently up in the air as the actor faces charges for disorderly conduct for filing a false report.

Show bosses aren’t making a decision about Jussie’s future on the show just yet (Picture: Getty Images)

Jamal has already been written out of the final two episodes of the season, and bosses were said to be thinking about their next steps which could include either recasting or killing off the character.

But chief Brett Mahoney has insisted that it is ‘too early’ for any decisions to be made.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mahoney said: ‘It’s a matter of trusting the process and allowing the legal process to play out and see where it goes from there. ‘It’s too early to think about what we would have to do if we didn’t have Jussie… it’s too early to think about the show without him.’

He added that the last couple of weeks have been ‘an emotional rollercoaster’ on set.

Empire airs Wednesdays on FOX in the US

Howard Stern and Wendy Williams go to war as he brands her a ‘jealous b***h’ over claims he’s ‘too Hollywood’

Howard Stern has branded Wendy Williams a ‘jealous bitch’ after launching an attack on her and her career on his radio show.

The controversial ‘shock jock’ took to his high horse after Wendy Williams suggested that he had toned down his image over the last few years, and used his platform on SiriusXM to big himself up and knock her down in the process.

He declared: ‘Jealous bitch… You are nobody to me.

‘You’ll never be me, Wendy. You’ll never be me. You can pretend to be me, you can pretend to be like me, but you’re not. You don’t have my wit and you don’t have my talent.

‘You couldn’t have that career. You’re a fly.’

What did she say that caused such a reaction? Branding him ‘too Hollywood’ and anticipated his new book to be about fame.

Howard didn’t hold back as he slammed Wendy and her comments (Picture: Getty)

Talking about the fact he was a hero of hers, Wendy said: ‘Howard, I love you, but since you’ve gone Hollywood, everything you say is so predictable.’

‘Every story is going to be about, “Oh, I love this one, and then we went on their yacht”,’ she said.  ‘He’s a Hollywood insider, which sucks.’

Pretty safe to say that struck a nerve with Howard in some way – and once he’d started his response, it was clear he just couldn’t stop.

‘What evidence do you have that I’m Hollywood, honey? I grew up a scumbag and I’m still treated like a scumbag,’ he seethed.

‘What, because I found success now I’m “Hollywood?” What cause I know Jimmy Kimmel?’ Howard added.

‘Who am I hanging out with? She doesn’t know who I’m hanging out with. She doesn’t know what I do in this world. She doesn’t know who I’m fucking with.’

During his tirade, he also lashed out at her health issues and discussed the denied reports her husband had been cheating on her.

‘Worry about your husband, not me,’ he announced. ‘Fuck you and your dumb show and your mystery illness. She disappears for two months, nobody knows why, and now she’s questioning me? Thanks honey. I never fainted on my show either.’

Buuuut the shock jock, seemingly determined to sound as shocking as possible, wasn’t done, and continued: ‘I’m not somebody you want to fuck with, honey. I don’t want to hear your bullshit, and you’re not a nice person.

‘Nobody likes you, that’s why you can’t go Hollywood. People do not like her. [The staff] was doing a dance over at The Wendy Williams Show when she was out.

‘She’s a big pain in the ass. I hate to break the news to you, honey. Good thing you hurried back.’
