Timothy Spall leads the cast in new ITV drama Hatton Garden at 9pm tonight with dramatises the notorious 2015 heist in London.

Often referred to as the ‘most spectacular’ British crime of the decade, the four-part series has been adapted to the screen by acclaimed BAFTA-winning screenwriter Jeff Pope.

Hatton Garden depicts the audacious jewellery, gold and cash burglary at the heart of London’s diamond district executed by an elderly gang of career criminals across the Easter Bank Holiday weekend in April four years ago.

Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award winner Timothy Spall OBE, Olivier award-winning actor Kenneth Cranham and BAFTA winner Brían F O’Byrne play leading roles.

Cranham and Spall portray Brian Reader and Terry Perkins respectively.

According to ITV, the drama tells the story of how the men pulled off the heist which was considered in a class of its own in terms of scale and ambition, and the extraordinary level of planning, preparation and organisation required to penetrate the vault of the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company.

It will follow how the men involved meticulously planned the raid, the tensions amongst the group, the loss of livelihoods suffered by the box holders and the complex police operation that ultimately captured them.

Series creator Jeff Pope told ITV: “It was such a high-profile crime. There were headlines about this gang pulling off an audacious heist.

“Then it was revealed to be a bunch of old blokes!”

Hatton garden continues next Monday on ITV at 9pm.

Game of Thrones season 8 finale smashes viewing records as millions of us tune in to see the ending

Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 6.

Game of Thrones’ series finale smashed all previous viewing records like Daenerys smashed King’s Landing.

The last ever episode, The Iron Throne, drew in an audience of 13.6 million viewers in linear viewership, reports TVLine.

This beat out the previous record of 12.5 million which was set by episode five, The Bells, last week.

The Iron Throne is now HBO’s most watched ‘single telecast’ ever after The Sopranos season four premiere.

A staggering 19.3 million viewers tuned into HBO, HBO GO and HBO Now last night – and that’s before many Sky Atlantic viewers have had a chance to tune in tonight at 9pm on this side of the pond.

Sky Atlantic is currently in the middle of a social media blackout to avoid spoiling anything for their viewers.

There have been largely mixed reactions to the finale, with many fans already disappointed with a poorly written season eight overall.

However, Metro.co.uk deems the ending ‘impressive’ and it has a slightly better rating on Rotten Tomatoes (56 percent) than The Bells which has a measly 47 percent.

Now we have to hope HBO deliver on that potential Arya Stark spin-off

Game of Thrones season 8 is currently streaming on Now TV.

Some mild Game of Thrones season 8 finale spoilers below.

Game of Thrones reached its highly anticipated, if disappointing finale last night, with millions of fans turning in and smashing all previous viewing records.

But a certain Good Morning Britain host wants us all to know that he doesn’t care for the groundbreaking HBO fantasy.

Piers Morgan took it upon himself to tweet to his 6.6 million followers tonight that he’s never watched Game of Thrones and isn’t going to start watching any time soon.

He tweeted: ‘BREAKING: I don’t care what happened in the #GameofThronesFinale because I’ve never watched a second of this fantastical over-hyped garbage & never will.’

Grand. Thanks for letting us know.

Piers Morgan tweet

The replies to the tweet rightly pointed out that Piers does indeed care enough to tweet about it.

One commenter wrote: ‘It’s like he’s describing his career.’

Piers Morgan tweet

While another added: ‘How do you know it’s overhyped and garbage if you’ve never watched it? …. Poor form.’

Regardless of Piers’ or anyone’s views, the final episode, which is titled The Iron Throne, drew in an audience of 13.6 million.

The feature-length instalment beat out the previous record of 12.5 million which was set by episode five, The Bells, last week.

Calls flood in for Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage to win all the awards for season 8 finale

Warning: Spoilers for Game Of Thrones season eight.

Game Of Thrones are calling for actor Peter Dinklage to get every acting award under the sun for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in season eight.

Dinklage’s acting has always been off the scale across all eight seasons, but his strong performance in the last ever episode seriously impressed viewers.

Episode six of season eight, The Iron Throne, saw Tyrion imprisoned by Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) for treason. In one of his standout scenes, he urged Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to get rid of Daenerys once and for all as he felt she had become dangerous.

The second highlight for Tyrion came after Jon killed Daenerys and the heads of the Westeros houses came together to choose a new leader.

Making the case for Bran Stark (Issac Hempstead Wright), Tyrion stressed the importance of story-telling and added that Bran not being able to have children would be a benefit.

In the end Tyrion was made Hand of the king and would serve under Bran.

As the last ever episode went out fans on Twitter heaped praise on Dinklage for his acting in the finale.

The finale turned out to be extremely divisive with many complaining about Daenerys’ sudden shift from hero to villain.

Earlier episodes in the season have also sparked ferocious backlash, with a petition calling for season eight to be remade fetching over one million signatures and counting.

Creator Dylan D explained on the Change.org page: ‘I made this petition some few days after Episode 4, “The Last of the Starks”, aired. I was just so disappointed and angry. It was simply me venting a bit,’ he wrote.

‘I don’t think people can reasonably expect HBO to completely remake the season, or any part of this particular series (keep in mind the prequel spinoffs).

‘It costs a fortune to shoot one episode, and I think most signers understand that. Will HBO lose gobs of money over this? Eh probably not. As Heath Ledger’s Joker once said, “It’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message”.’

Game Of Thrones is available to stream on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

First scene from Stranger Things Season 3 brings the heat to Hawkins as Mrs Wheeler eyes up Billy Hargrove

Lifeguard Billy is bringing the summer heat in the new Season 3 teaser clip (Picture: StrangerThings/Netflix)

The makers of Stranger Things have teased the first full clip from Season 3 and the summer that ‘can change everything’.

In what looks like a stark departure from the dark days of Hawkins, summer brings the promise of some serious heat – especially between Billy Hargrove and Karen Wheeler.

The first steamy scene puts bad boy Billy at the centre of the action as he causes quite a stir at the local swimming pool.

Stranger Things
In particular, Mike Wheeler’s mum seems to have eyes for Billy (Picture: StrangerThings/Netflix)

With a new summer job as the local lifeguard, Billy is not only commanding the teens enjoying their school break but also attention from the married mums of Hawkins who can’t help but turn their heads.

And it seems like Mike and Nancy’s mum Mrs Wheeler still has eyes for Max’s older brother when she gets a little hot under the collar at the poolside.

Billy even compliments Karen on her new bathing suit after the mums line themselves up on the sun loungers to see a shirtless Billy arrive for his shift.

Big fans of the series will remember when Karen first met Billy in Season 2 episode The Gate and she seemed quite infatuated with him.

And the local lifeguard is turning heads all around the pool (Picture: StrangerThings/Netflix)

There’s already been the suggestion that Billy will play a bigger part in the third season, following the S3 trailer that was released in March.

The teaser sparked a wave of fan theories that he would turn into a monster, thanks to the subtle Easter Eggs planted throughout.

The most obvious sign was the creepy vein-like marks that appeared on his arm while he was having a shower.

Stranger Things
Billy captures the attention of the married mums at the local Lido (Picture: StrangerThings/Netflix)

Not only do the marks look painful, but it seems like it’s straight from the depths of The Upside Down.

All signs seem to point towards a mysterious virus spreading around Hawkins, but it’s still unclear how Billy became infected.

Some say it’s a waterborne virus, and thanks to Billy’s summer job as a pool lifeguard he was almost certain to pick it up.

Season 3 of Stranger Things arrives on Netflix on July 4, 2019.

Brand new Stranger Things character posters hint that *everything* is changing in Season 3

The new character posters for Season 3 of Stranger Things come with a riddle for the changes ahead (Picture: StrangerThings/Netflix)

Fourteen new character posters for Stranger Things have teased the riddle of Season 3.

With more insight into how ‘one summer can change everything,’ the official promo images hint that *nothing* will be the same in Hawkins this summer.

The posters dropped on Monday night, with just six weeks to go until the next season drops on Netflix, and each one comes with a hint that something particularly terrifying is on the horizon.

‘One friendship can change everything,’ reads the tweet beside two posters starring Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Max (Sadie Sink), who were seen bonding in the Season 3 trailer two months ago.

Stranger Things

Stranger Things

Similarly, it looks like Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Nancy (Natalia Dyer) will be closer than ever with a hint that reads: ‘One Jancy can change everything.’

The same can be said for Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour), whose teamwork – and subtle romantic ties – have earned them a new ‘Jopper’ nickname too, apparently.

One of the poster trios hints that ‘our boys’ Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) can ‘change everything,’ with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo).

Stranger Things

Stranger Things

Elsewhere, we get the impression that Dustin is still harbouring hero worship for Steve (Joe Keery) as the pair get grouped with his new pals from the ice cream shop, Scoops Ahoy, at the Starcourt Mall.

The caption reads: ‘One scoop can change everything.’

But then again, that could refer to a journalistic ‘scoop’ that ties in with The Hawkins Post, which will play a bigger part in the new season.

Then there’s Billy Hargrove, who could *single-handedly* change everything, since he’s the only character to go solo in tweets from the Stranger Things account.

Stranger Things

There have been early hints that Billy could the one to turn into a monster in the latest season after a trailer appeared to show creepy vein-like marks bursting through his skin.

All signs seem to point towards a mysterious virus spreading around Hawkins, but it’s still unclear how Billy became infected.

The first scene from the forthcoming series, which accompanied the posters on Monday, showed Billy in his new lifeguard job, perhaps hinting that the virus is waterborne.

Season 3 of Stranger Things arrives on Netflix on July 4, 2019.

Sophie Turner brands Game Of Thrones season 8 remake petition ‘disrespectful’

Sophie Turner has branded the Game Of Thrones season eight remake petition ‘disrespectful’ following the finale episode.

The 23-year-old actress, who played Sansa Stark in the HBO fantasy, has slammed the online campaign which has received over 1 million signatures, saying that although she’s ‘not surprised’ that viewers have aired their frustration, she thinks it’s rude.

‘People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel,’ Sophie began.

‘All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season.’

Sophie continued to The New York Times: ‘Like 50-something night shoots.

‘So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.’

The Change.org petition was launched after the fourth episode of the eighth season titled The Last Of The Starks with  creator Dylan D explaining his position on his hopes for the appeal.

‘I don’t think people can reasonably expect HBO to completely remake the season, or any part of this particular series (keep in mind the prequel spinoffs),’ he wrote.

‘It costs a fortune to shoot one episode, and I think most signers understand that. Will HBO lose gobs of money over this? Eh probably not. As Heath Ledger’s Joker once said, “It’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message”.’

Actor Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran Stark, also slammed the campaign, calling it ‘ridiculous.’

‘It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t. In my opinion, it’s a great ending.’

Game Of Thrones is available to stream on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

Game Of Thrones creator George RR Martin has addressed the season eight finale after fans have called for it to be rewritten.

The writer, who has ruled out giving a date for his forthcoming book The Winds Of Winter, reflected on the HBO show and expressed how he can’t believe that it’s over after nine years.

‘The last night, the last show,’ George began on his blog. ‘After eight epic seasons, HBO’s GAME OF THRONES series has come to an end.

‘It is hard to believe it is over, if truth be told. The years have gone past in the blink of an eye. Can it really have been more than a decade since my manager Vince Gerardis set up a meeting at the Palm in LA, and I sat down for the first time with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for a lunch that lasted well past dinner?

‘I asked them if they knew who Jon Snow’s mother was. Fortunately, they did.’

Despite the petition calling for Game Of Thrones season eight to be rewritten reaching over 1million signatures, George  thanked the cast and crew who worked on the show.

‘There were 42 cast members at the season eight premiere in New York City, and that wasn’t even all of them.

Latest episode of the award-winning HBO series. Premieres April 21.
Game Of Thrones aired its final episode on Monday (Picture: HBO)

‘And the crew, though less visible than the cast, were no less important.  We had some amazing people working on this show, as all those Emmys bear witness.’

It’s not the end of the franchise though as George is currently working on another book and has yet another in the pipeline.

‘And I’m writing,’ he teased. ‘Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is. THE WINDS OF WINTER is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done.

‘I won’t say when, I’ve tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A DREAM OF SPRING.

I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never forget. They had eight hours for this final season.

‘I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done… and if more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I’ll add them.’

Arthur’s Mr Ratburn same-sex wedding episode banned from airing in Alabama

Alabama Public Television decided not to air the Arthur episode that contained Mr Ratburn’s same-sex wedding over fears it’s not family friendly.

Season 22 episode titled Mr Ratburn and the Special Someone saw the rat (voiced by Arthur Holden) came out as gay and marry Patrick (Marcel Jeanin) the aardvark in heartwarming scenes, but instead the state aired an old installment.

With no plans to ever air the episode, Mike Mckenzie, director of programming at Alabama Public Television told told AL.com: ‘Parents have trusted Alabama Public Television for more than 50 years to provide children’s programs that entertain, educate and inspire.

‘More importantly – although we strongly encourage parents to watch television with their children and talk about what they have learned afterwards – parents trust that their children can watch APT without their supervision.

‘We also know that children who are younger than the “target” audience for Arthur also watch the program.’

This news comes after more than 18,000 people signing a petition with One Million Moms calling for PBS to pull the ‘inappropriate’ episode, asking for action ‘immediately.’

The campaign demanded that Arthur ‘no longer air it or others with same sex couples,’ with the description reading: ‘I am outraged that PBS Kids would use their children’s network to promote same sex marriage.

Alabama Public Television has stopped the episode from airing (Picture: PBS Kids)

‘It is offensive to me and my family that the network would glorify the homosexual lifestyle.

‘Until PBS Kids agrees to no longer air this episode “Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone,” or others with same sex couples, then conservative families including my own will have no choice but to discontinue watching PBS Kids Network, even avoiding previews, commercials, and reruns.

‘Therefore, my family will not be able to allow PBS Kids in our home.

‘Please cancel this controversial content immediately. You will not have my support as long as you continue to veer away from family-friendly entertainment.’

‘They followed his family history all the way back and traced his roots to Eastern Europe and the travelling community.’

The source continued to The Sun: ‘But it was the fact that he had a villainous relative who had committed murder that shocked him. It’s quite an upsetting discovery to uncover.’

Vikings star Alicia Agneson has just gone and given out all the season 6 spoilers.

Yes, the 23-year-old took to Instagram to wish her co-star, and onscreen hubby, a happy birthday.

However, in doing so it seems she might have just gone and dropped a little bit too much information about the upcoming and final season of the History Channel hit.

The Freydis actress shared a picture of the duo on set happily beaming into the camera, while dressed to the nines in Russian gear.

In the caption, she spilled: ‘I think happy birthday is in order for mr danish man / husband / vikings king / murderer *cough.’

Marco Ilso, who plays Hvitserk, also wished his Vikings brother a happy birthday, by sharing a snap of the duo getting their hair cut after filming had wrapped.

Back in season 5B, Alicia appeared to be savagely written out of the script after Ivar The Boneless (Alex) murdered both her character and their newborn son.

However, since then a trailer has dropped for the last ever season, and despite being well and truly dead, Alicia made a grand return.

That’s right, it appears the queen has risen from the grave, and not only is she alive, she’s managed to get herself all the way to Russia – and dye her blond locks brown.

Because hair dye was all the craze back in Vikings times.

Although there is huge speculation as to what this might mean, fans are also convinced that Alicia has returned to the saga as a brand new character.

And, by the looks of her caption today, we can only think that’s true after she seemingly confirmed Freydis was ‘murdered.’

After the trailer dropped, fans were quick to comment and questioned her appearance.

One wrote: ‘It’s the same actress so we have to wait to next season. Is freydis married to the Russian prince?’

While someone else added: ‘She’s now rumoured to do a love scene with a Russian prince Dir coupled with her possibly spoiling a plot involving Erik the Red winning Kattegat, it seems she may not be Ivars forever.’

However, another fan pointed out the obvious, and replied: ‘She’s dead though…

‘And I really hope they aren’t going to try and sneak a fast one on us and use the same actress for 2 different roles. Besides, Erik the Red was Freydis Eriksons Father.’

Alicia has given little information away about what her role is in the next season, however on her IMDB it states she is still playing the part of Freydis.

But we don’t have long to wait to find out, as it was recently confirmed Vikings is set to return to our screens ‘soon.’

Susanna Reid has revealed that she’s been added to a WhatsApp chat with Jamie Redknapp and Ant Middleton.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, who confirmed her split from Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish last month, spilled that she’s been discussing the off-side rule with the lads ahead of the Soccer Aid 2019 match at Stamford Bridge.

‘I’ve just been added to the Soccer Aid England team WhatAapp,’ Susanna told viewers. ‘This is bizarre.’

‘I’m now getting texts from Big Sam [Allardyce], I’ll be hearing from David Seaman soon, Jamie Redknapp, Ant Middleton.’

Teasing what’s going down in the group chat, Susanna added: ‘We’re discussing tactics, David Harewood, obviously.’

Susanna refused to show co-host Piers Morgan her screen though, telling him he’s not allowed to peep because he’s the rival manager.

He clapped back: ‘Just by contrast, I’ll be hearing from Robert Pires, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Roberto Carlos, Usain Bolt. Are you seeing a slight disparity here?’

Piers snapped: ‘They don’t need to. They’re going to wait for the team talk.

‘I don’t want to be friends with my players. I’ve come to win. Those players will get the team talk of their lives.’

It’s been confirmed that Susanna is co-managing the English team alongside former manager Big Sam, going head-to-head against Harry Redknapp and Piers.

On top of the names Piers read out, Robbie Keane, Niall Horan, Ricardo Carvalho, Martin Compston, Danny O’Carroll and Jack Savoretti are also on the team.

Meanwhile, Susanna has Mo Farrah, John Terry, Robbie Williams, Mark Wright, Ben Shephard, Michael Owen, Joe Wicks, and a whole host of others.

Game of Thrones officially came to an epic end, seeing the likes of Bran Stark take the Iron Throne.

And while deliberating who should be the new ruler of the seven kingdoms, Toby Osmond made his first and last ever appearance in the fantasy saga as the new Prince of Dorne.

Talking about the scene to Metro.co.uk, the actor opened up on how things got too emotional after they officially wrapped up filming.

Even we shed a tear listening to what happened.

He told us: ‘It was the last day and we all wrapped, after that they were not shooting in Spain ever again, and they were taking a skeleton crew back to Belfast for minimal stuff.

‘So this was the end of the main shooting at the Dragon Unit.’

He explained that Spain was called the Dragon Unit and Belfast was the Wolf Unit – and yes, we’re geeking out over that too.

Toby added: ‘Dan Weiss and David Benioff said, “that’s it final wrap,” and asked everyone to stay on set for a second. It was the dragon pit, so it’s in this fantastic amphitheater.

‘They came around to each of the repeat cast members, and they had a personalised gift for each of them. They were getting them up and telling them really nice things.’

Laughing, the star joked: ‘It was like a wedding, it was really lovely and really heartfelt there was a lot of love there. I was like, “this is like being on the end of a Star Wars shoot or something, this is a historic moment right here.”‘

After getting cast as the Dornish Prince right at the end of the entire series, Toby did confess he felt slightly out of place.

‘A guy that got cast the same time as myself leaned over and was like “I feel like we’re wedding crashers!”‘ Toby cackled before adding: ‘We were like the second cousins that no one knows, like we’re not really sure if we’ve been invited and we’re there eating the buffet food.’

‘But Dan actually stopped at me and said, “Toby you epitomise the Dornish character, thank you.”

‘I didn’t want to put my foot in my mouth, I was like, “thank you… so much… thank you.”‘

Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones
He said it was ‘really moving and very emotional’ (Picture: HBO)

The actor was joined by the likes of Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner and Gwendoline Christie and explained how they would tear up when the directors got to each of their chairs (or wooden thrones as he liked to call them).

‘I think to be honest more people than not were crying,’ he confessed: ‘And sometimes people would cry at other people’s stuff.’

Giggling at his own reaction, Toby recalled: ‘I even shed a tear and was like, “no, this is inappropriate, this is not my thing, this is not about me, oh my God.”

‘But they were so lovely and eloquent in what they were saying – talking about people’s acting, and how they’ve changed and grown, and their development into young adults.’

We’re not crying, you’re crying!

He continued: ‘It was lovely, it was really moving and very emotional.’

Before getting too emotional, Toby laughed off: ‘And then me and the four lords were kind of like, “this is really awkward now, like what do we do? Where’s the buffet table?”‘

Piers Morgan slams snowflake generation as he joins Game of Thrones cast to attack ‘ridiculous’ season 8 petition

The Game of Thrones petition is now climbing up to 1.5 million signatures demanding another go at season eight, which Piers Morgan has got a lot of thoughts about.

After proudly bragging that he’s not a fan of the HBO series, the Good Morning Britain presenter is still vehemently against the protest to rewrite the final chapter of Game of Thrones, after investing the best part of decade in a cataclysmic disappointed which, if anything, was overshadowed with news Maisie Williams is joining RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Comparing the season eight backlash to Brexit, Piers tweeted: ‘Nothing sums up the snowflake generation more than this ridiculous petition to have the #GameofThrones final season rewritten.

‘If they don’t get what they want, whether it’s Trump, Brexit or a TV show, they lie on the floor screaming ‘I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT – DO IT AGAIN!!!!!’

The Game of Thrones cast are understandably gutted by the reaction to the Game of Thrones finale, which saw Bran Stark (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright) take the throne, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) killed by her lover Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and a water bottle make its debut in another unforgivable blunder.

Sophie Turner, who starred as Sansa Stark, told The New York Times: ‘Honestly, I’m not surprised. People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel.’

Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark
Sophie Turner called the campaign ‘disrespectful’ (Picture: HBO)

She added: ‘All of these petitions and things like that – I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots.

‘So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.’

Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV. If you’re still bitter about the finale, you can sign the petition here.

The BBC’s first female television newsreader Nancy Wigginton has died aged 93.

The broadcaster, who was better known as Nan Winton, passed away in hospital on May 11 three days after falling at her home in Dorset.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at the coroner’s court last week in Bournemouth with officer Ken McEwan saying Nan had ‘become frail and had been falling frequently.’

The journalist had been admitted to hospital with a fractured femur and had surgery the next day, but was later moved to critical care after her heart, kidneys and respiratory system began to fail.

Nan died in the ward with her cause of death down to hypertension, frailty of old age and congestive heart failure, with a full inquest set to take place January 29 2020.

Nan was a BBC TV continuity announcer for three years from 1958 and later worked on Panorama and Town and Around.

The corporation hired her to read the 6pm news and weekend bulletins to rival ITN who had employed Barbara Mandell as their female newsreader since its launch in 1955, however she was soon removed after viewers complained that it ‘wasn’t acceptable’ for a woman to have the role.

In 1964 Nan spoke out about the ‘prejudice and discrimination’ she had faced in the industry, telling the Daily Mail: ‘There were times when I was doing the announcing when I wanted to shout aloud like Shylock, “Hath not woman eyes, ears, senses?”

‘In Italy and Spain they have women newsreaders who are beautiful and sexy too.

‘We’re afraid of that here.’

Vikings star Alicia Agneson shades Game Of Thrones season 8 finale and it’s everything

Vikings star Alicia Agneson got her claws out as she went and threw shade at the Game Of Thrones finale.

There has always been rivalry between the two programmes, after the History Channel hit first came to our screens back in 2013.

And it seems the cast are not afraid to get involved in a bit of healthy competition, especially after season eight of GoT has come to an end.

Viewers have appeared to be left unimpressed by the last few episodes of the fantasy saga, and have even started a petition to get the HBO show refilmed.

And it looks as though the 23-year-old Vikings actress was among the disgruntled fans.

Taking to her Instagram story, the Freydis star revealed to her followers that she was slowly getting around to watching the season finale.

While sipping on coffee, she shared a selfie of herself looking less than pleased, as she poked fun at the now cult show.

‘Watching the end like wow guys,’ Alicia teased her followers as she pulled a sarcastic face.

‘What a brilliant show and cast,’ the star added in another clip, before joking: ‘Obvs not anything like @historyvikings but okay.’

She’s not the only one to rinse the series, as her castmate Clive Standen (who plays Rollo in the much loved historical drama) also called the show out after a coffee cup appeared in Westeros.

Clive Standen makes a joke about the Starbucks coffee cup blunder from Game Of Thrones
Clive Standen has also joined in on the trolling (Picture: Instagram / Getty)

With Starbucks taking the credit for the blunder (even though it was actually from local Belfast shop, Paper Cup), everyone – including the cast members – have jumped on board the mocking moment.

And the 37-year-old acted no differently, as he shared a picture of the Starbucks cup in question in a Pop! Collectibles box.

But despite the trolling, it seems some of the Vikings cast would be more than happy to see a Game of Thrones crossover.

Talking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Helgi star Jack McEvoy suggested that showrunner Michael Hirst should bring Game of Thrones into the mix.

He laughed: ‘Why don’t we have Jon Snow try and rule the kingdom and have this cross platform worlds where these two great shows collide.

‘Then all the vikings  – good, bad or indifferent  – must stand together against the villainous Game of Thrones?’

Love Island’s first contestant confirmed as Tyson Fury’s fit younger brother

We’ve been waiting for Love Island confirmations for a while – and the first has all but been confirmed from the unlikely source of boxing champ Tyson Fury.

Fury has revealed in an interview with ESPN that his 19-year-old brother, Tommy, is about to enter the villa on the hunt for love this summer.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on their MMA show, he said: ‘He’s going on a TV show called Love Island.

‘He’s a good looking young kid and I think he’s going to be a hit with the ladies on it.’

‘He clearly doesn’t look like me because I look like an ogre!,’ the pro wrestler joked.

Don’t be so harsh on yourself, Tyson!

Metro.co.uk has approached ITV2 for comment.

Tommy has admitted in previous interviews that he’s eager to carve his own career away from that of his brother – so maybe Love Island is just the ticket he needs.

‘I don’t want to be known as someone’s brother,’ he said ahead of his pro-debut back in March.

‘I want people to watch me because I am a fighter on my own merit and not because of who I am related to.’

https://www.instagram.com/p/BwP3_VCnQOA/

Already with an impressive fanbase of his own online, the handsome man could be getting in the ring to win a young girls’ heart.

Last year’s Love Island winner Jack Fincham and reality star vet Jem Lucy are among those who keep tabs on his Insta account.

His involvement comes amid rumours that Strictly pro AJ Pritchard’s brother Curtis will head into the villa, after appearing for several years on Dancing With the Stars Ireland.

But whoever ends up getting their tan on in the lap of luxury this year has been given stern warnings about what to expect, as a number of former cast members have revealed they have struggled in the show’s aftermath.

The series has been forced to ramp up their aftercare after two of their previous contestants, Sophie Gradon and Mike Thallasitis, have died by suicide since their time in the spotlight.

Dr Alex George, who appeared in last year’s series, also admits to seeking therapy after being attacked by trolls online.

Former Miss GB Zara Holland also said that she felt ‘brainwashed’ by the experience, and called for the show to be axed completely.

Love Island launches on 3 June on ITV2.

Why did the Night King want to kill Bran Stark?

*Warning: Game of Thrones season eight spoilers*

Game of Thrones has come to an end and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) surprisingly became the one who claimed the now destroyed Iron Throne.

The Stark was chosen by the lords and ladies of Westeros after the idea was proposed by Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage).

This almost wasn’t possible as Bran was moments away from being killed by the Night King in episode three, but he was saved by Arya who managed to stab and kill him.

So why did the Night King specifically target Bran, and would he have know that Bran was the future King of Westeros?

Why did the Night King want to kill Bran Stark?

In episode two Bran explains to several characters ahead of the Battle for Winterfell that the Night King will try to kill him.

He explained: ‘He will come for me. He has tried before, many time with many three-eyed ravens.’

When asked by Sam Tarly why he would do this, Bran responded that the Night King wanted ‘an endless night.

‘He wants to erase this world, and I am its memory.’

These comments from Bran suggest that the Night King was never looking to rule Westeros or just kill thousands of people.

Instead he wanted to wipe away the existence of Westeros, as well as all of its history.

Now fans feel that the Night King may have had a bigger plan, and perhaps knew that Bran Stark was going to be crowned the King of Westeros.

This could have been a reason why he aimed to kill Bran, but it is unlikely to be the driving force behind his attack.

The series doesn’t going into too much detail regarding the Night Kings motives, as he never speaks and we don’t see too much of his origins other than how he was originally created.

Many fans still feel there are a lot of questions that have gone unanswered, and over one million viewers have signed a petition for season eight to be remade with ‘competent writers’.

Celine Dion and James Corden recreate iconic Titanic moment and our hearts will go on and on

James Corden met up with Celine Dion in Las Vegas for Carpool Karaoke as she wrapped up the last dates of her residency.

The legendary Canadian singer has been performing in Vegas for nearly 10 year, so it seemed fitting that James and The Late Late Show showed up so that ‘our hearts could go on’ for the latest Carpool Karaoke installment.

On Monday, the two delivered the high notes singing the 51-year-old’s greatest hits, including It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, I Drove All Night and Because You Loved Me, as they enjoyed a car ride through the streets on Vegas.

And of course, 40-year-old James left the song we all wanted to the very last minute.

As they started with the first couple of lines from My Heart Will Go On from the 1997 film Titanic, James paused and said: ‘There’s something wrong with this, there’s something not quite right. It doesn’t feel big enough, you know?’

Obviously already two peas in a pod, Celine agreed and replied: ‘I think I’ve got an idea, follow me.’

Viewers were then transported to the famous Fountains of Bellagio in front of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, as the camera focused in on James standing behind Celine, as they wrapped their arms on the edge of a little replica of the famous Titanic ship.

James wore a wig and dressed like Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Jack, while Celine stood in front of him as his romantic companion – Rose aka Kate Winslet’s character – so they could belt out the chorus.

Celine even wore a copycat of the film’s Heart of the Ocean blue diamond necklace which she eventually drops into the fountains, just like the older version of Rose does at the end of the movie.

And just in case you missed any of the references, a ring buoy can be seen hanging behind them on the boat’s railing that reads Titanic.

Elsewhere in the episode, the presenter joked that Celine has the gift to be able to make any song she sings sound over the top. So, of course, she gave go at making Baby Shark dramatic with a couple of her signature chest bumps.

‘That is an incredible version of “Baby Shark” that I don’t think anyone will ever forget,’ the Brit told the singer.

The Carpool Karaoke episode comes as she prepares to face the final weeks of her Las Vegas residency which she began in March 2011 by headlining her production Celine at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Her last show at Caesars Palace is scheduled for 8 June 2019.

It is her second production in Vegas, as her first residency A New Day… opened in March 2003 and ended in December 2007.

But it doesn’t end there for Celine, who will take a bit of a summer break and then kick off her Courage world tour on 18 September in Quebec City, Canada.

Game of Thrones bows out in lowest-rated episode ever as finale The Iron Throne is slated by fans and critics

Game Of Thrones finale Jon Snow final scene
Game of Thrones struck with more bad news over finale (Picture: HBO)

*Warning: This articles contains spoilers from the Game of Thrones finale, The Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones’ finale was easily the most anticipated moment in television since the last ever episode of Friends, only it will be remembered as the biggest disappointment since Joey.

The Iron Throne saw Bran Stark (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright) named ruler of the now Six Kingdoms, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) kill his lover Daenerys Taragryen (Emilia Clarke) and a rogue water bottle follow in the footsteps of a coffee cup, arguably the biggest surprise of the entire instalment.

In turn, what was hyped as the biggest spectacle in Game of Thrones history fell unbearably flat, reflected in its scathing reviews.

The Iron Throne has been given a sour score of just 4.5 stars out of 10 on IMDB, becoming the worst rated episode ever.

Season eight’s entire run has gone down as well as a Madonna comeback, with complaints over scenes so dark they’re impossible to watch and lazy story-telling which have spoilt the legacy of the seven series before it.

Here’s a graph detailing Game of Thrones’ fall from grace with fans:

Before Game of Thrones’ final chapter, the worst reviewed instalment was season five’s Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken. That episode could still boast 8.1 stars.

A petition calling for Game of Thrones season eight to be completely rewritten has now broken through 1.3 million signatures and is gaining more pace every hour.

Understandably, the campaign has caused huge upset among the cast. Sophie Turner told The New Yorker: ‘Honestly, I’m not surprised. People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel.

‘All of these petitions and things like that – I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots.

‘So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.’

Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
