Piers Morgan had a cheeky swipe at Britain’s Got Talent over the ratings.
Piers was a Britain’s Got Talent judge from 2007 to 2009, which was the year that Susan Boyle became a household name.
The Good Morning Britain host joked that people had started switching off since he stopped appearing. But he offered to make a comeback in exchange for a hefty pay rise.
Piers was speaking on Wednesday’s show about the film Yesterday, in which Ed Sheeran has a role.
He said: ‘Ed Sheeran is basically a busker isn’t he? He’s the highest-paid busker in the history of busking.
‘I like buskers. There’s something about the original form of finding talent. Walking along and there’s someone just standing there doing something.’
His co-host Susanna Reid said: ‘Since you’ve stopped doing Britain’s Got Talent you got to do it another way.’
He fired back: ‘Since I stopped doing it and the ratings halved, do you mean that?
’20 million watched the Susan Boyle series and about 8 or 9 million last time. I’m doing the maths and Simon, my fee has gone up to £4million now and three Ferraris.’
The Britain’s Got Talent panel is currently Simon, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.
This year’s show was won by Chelsea pensioner Colin Thackery, who is going to use the £250,000 prize money to help his grandchildren buy homes.
Meanwhile Susan revealed that she still fancies Piers – who she dubbed ‘Piersy baby’ 10 years ago – after all this time.
‘His wife might not like this,’ Susan coyly told Lorraine Kelly earlier this month. ‘I still like him a bit.’
‘I’ve grown up a bit,’ she shuffled. ‘I don’t know what to say – I’m lost for words! I’m a single fish; I’m happy.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
