The End of the F***ing World is likely to say goodbye after this series (Picture: Channel 4)
Bad news, folks – it seems that it’s the end of the f***ing line for The End Of The F***ing World.
Fans of the sleeper hit have only just got Alyssa and the gang back on their screens this Monday night, but the team behind the show have warned not to get too comfy.
In fact, you better make the most of them while they’re still around.
Charlie Covell, the series showrunner, confirmed the news at a Q&A and said: ‘I don’t think you’re going to get another series.
‘I think sometimes it’s good to just stop things and I hope when you see the end you’ll agree.
‘I think you can push things but this feels like an actual end. Sorry.’
While that doesn’t exactly put a pin in things completely, it doesn’t exactly look good for leading lady Alyssa, played by Jessica Barden.
Alyssa’s story is about to get seriously complicated (Picture: Channel 4)
She’s already got off to a shoddy start thanks to one hell of a double bill opening, which revealed that Bonnie (Naomi Ackie) was on a mission to kill her.
Sending a bullet with someone’s name on it is a good way to give away your gameplan there.
On the eve of her wedding, that’s surprisingly the least of her worries, and now there’s a whole lot of adventure coming her way.
Two years since the events that left James (Alex Lawther) bleeding out on a beach, knowing that this series might but their last means it’s literally anyone’s game.
Is everyone going to make it out alive?
The End Of The F***ing World continues Monday at 10pm on Channel 4.

James made a return in the second episode (Picture: Netflix)
The End Of The F**king World brought back character James despite many assuming he’d been killed, or that’s what actor Alex Lawther hoped you believed.
The 24-year-old actor played wannabe psychopath James in the first season of the Channel 4 series, which ended on a cliffhanger where he was shot by police on the beach.
While many assumed he was dead after not being seen in the first episode, James made a surprise comeback at the end of the second outing – after Alyssa discovered him spying on her in his car.
The third episode looks set to explore his journey to this point, and while his return may have not been too difficult to assume, actor Alex Lawther hoped his comeback was unexpected.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Alex said: ‘I hope they’re really surprised.
James and Alyssa in the first season (Picture: Netflix)
‘I don’t think we show the outside of the car that Bonnie drives in episode one, and therefore we really wanted to keep wrong-footing the audience until the last moment.’
Speaking about returning for the second season, Alex said: ‘I was really excited when writer Charlie Covell said I’ve got an idea and I just wanted to know what the idea was.
‘I read the first couple of episodes and I knew Jessica Barden was going to be involved and I knew Charlie was going to be involved so it was kind of a no brainer really.’
He added: ‘Also I had the impression that people really responded to the show, therefore I felt we can then go even further with season two.
‘You don’t get that opportunity much as an actor where you do something hoping people are going to like it, and then it’s done, and then people either like it or they don’t.
‘And then people responded to it seemed to like it, and then we were like, “Okay all those times in season one when I wasn’t brave enough to go a bit further, I think I can now because we’ve got an audience behind us.” So that was really rewarding.’
The End Of The F**king World season two continues on Channel 4.
The Home Office has tweeted about Channel 4 documentary Smuggled (Picture: Channel 4)
The Home Office has said the people taking part in Channel 4 experiment are not committing a crime.
The programme challenged members of the public to try and enter the UK from another country without their passport.
One woman entered the UK hiding out in the back of her husband’s motorhome, one man crossed the English Channel in a boat, while another man tried to do so using a passport of a man who looked nothing like him.
In the episode, which aired on Monday night, everyone managed to successfully enter the UK.
Viewers were wondering if the contributors to the programme were committing a crime by entering the UK without a passport.
When the show aired, the Home Office explained that the people involved were not doing anything illegal.
A tweet from the Home Office said: ‘Hundreds of thousands of people enter the UK each week so Border Force’s work is intelligence-led, targeting criminals who seek to break our laws.
The documentary sees ordinary people try and enter the UK without a passport (Picture: Channel 4)
‘All of the individuals in @Channel4’s #Smuggled were British passport holders and therefore were not committing a criminal offence.’
Carolynne, who travelled from France to Britain hidden in the back of a motorhome, admitted before her journey that she wanted to get caught as it would make her feel safe.
She said: ‘I want to be stopped and whoever finds me is gonna get a big cuddle and say thank you because I will sleep tonight knowing that you’re doing your jobs.’
After successfully reaching the UK, she said: ‘I would definitely make sure that more vehicles are checked. I’d rather be waiting an hour to go through a border, knowing that nothing is being brought through.’
Her husband David, who drove the motorhome, added: ‘If they’re economic migrants who want to better their own lives at the expense of people already in this country, then there’s a problem.’
The show aired a disclaimer at the beginning, explaining that it was filmed before 39 people were found dead in the back of a refrigerated lorry in Essex.
It had originally been delayed a week in the wake of the news.
Smuggled continues Monday at 9pm on Channel 4.

There’s only one month to go before Vikings season 6 finally comes to our screen – and it’s going to be one big, bloody battle from start to finish, all told.
Bjorn Ironside, Ivar the Boneless and Lagertha are all seen preparing for one last, major battle.
In the new 90-second clip there’s a lot to unpack, as calls for the new leader of the Kattegat tends to put Bjorn in charge.
However, he’s not going unchallenged, with Ivar, embittered after fleeing at the end of season five, coming back fighting quite literally with an army of his own.
‘It is time to elect a new saviour. It is time for a rebirth. For a new beginning. It is time to…FIGHT,’ the trailer warns.
With Lagertha on the frontline, viewers can’t wait to see what it brings – but it could mean the end of the brave warrior, with huge armys storming the beaches and threatening her own.
Bjorn is later seen emotional on a beach, surrounded by dead comrades who have been killed off by arrows.
Lagertha is not going down without a fight (Picture: History)
The clip ends with the creepy warning: ‘We’re all on our way to Valhalla’ (the Vikings version of an all-male heaven…we already know that she’s not going there.
But it could mean that she’s due to pass of old age – with Katheryn telling ET Canada that the final season required a ‘lot of prosthetic work’ and will be a massive battle.
The star laughed: ‘They ended up doing latex on the eyes and neck to be able to show the progress age takes. She is a granny now!’
Bjorn has assumed his place as leader of Kattegat (Picture: History)
Katheryn continued: ‘I feel as though it’s a new chapter of her life, she is trying to now redefine who she is as someone who is a grandmother and used to be a queen, and a warrior, and now finding new peace, and redefining her last chapter.’
‘It’s going to be adventurous, it’s going to be amazing,’ Katheryn beamed: ‘I’ll tell you one thing though, she is definitely not done fighting yet.’
She added: ‘There is still one big battle left to come.’
Could this be it?

Piers Morgan couldn’t be more proud of the hundreds of complaints he received after identifying as a penguin, and he’s feeling all kinds of ‘empowered’.
The Good Morning Britain host earned eyerolls from the nation when he flew into a rage while discussing the gender neutral penguin that arrived at London’s Sea Life in September.
It was confirmed this week that Piers, 54, had been cleared and would not be subjected to an Ofcom investigation and, of course, the presenter is rellishing in his triumph.
‘Thank you Ofcom, and thank you to those who complained, you have empowered me. That’s going to hurt, right?’ he said on Tuesday’s GMB.
Celebrating the win, he continued: ‘Personally quite pleased about that. I love complaining.’
When Susanna admitted she ‘cringes’ when someone complains about her, he teased: ‘Ooh, I’m being complained about me, hope everyone’s happy with me. Little vanilla. Some people like a bit of chip with their breakfast.’
Piers Morgan is celebrating his Ofcom win
Piers was pretty amused that Susanna, 48, was criticised in Ofcom’s ruling for not challenging him enough on his penguin argument.
‘The only person singled out in that complaint, is actually not me. It’s Susanna. So the real villain of this… basically I’m in the clear, old halo girl gets the knife,’ he amused.
He continued: ‘It’s not transphobic to think that 100 genders is ridiculous.
‘One of these 100 is called astra something, it means your gender is an identification with the moon and the stars. If that’s your gender, I’m allowed to be a two-spirit gender. That’s how it works.’
Susanna then ‘put her hands up’ and admitted she didn’t understand the 100 genders, stating: ‘I’m afraid I don’t understand 100 genders either.’
Continuing to gloat in his glory, Piers said: ‘Thank you Ofcom for showing a bit of common sense.
‘My thing with this is everything is having to be changed to cater to a very small number of people and very few people know what these are and my thing is, I don’t think that’s the correct way to do this.’
He added: ‘These things have to be discussed without the hysterical Twitter mob saying cancel him.’
Piers then admitted his confusion over Charlize Theron’s child Jackson identifying as a girl.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

Piers Morgan has shown himself to be a pretty sore loser as he’s refusing to attend the next National Television Awards because he’s ‘bored’ of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield repeatedly winning.
The Good Morning Britain host got all fired up over Charlize Theron’s recent comments that she hopes the Oscars nominations become gender neutral.
When Richard Arnold noted that the NTAs do not categorise nominees by gender, Piers revealed his plans to boycott the next awards ceremony.
‘I’ve got a lot of respect for her, she’s a great actress. But she wants the Oscars to be gender neutral,’ he said on Tuesday morning.
‘We want to have the end of best actress – really? Why do we want this? Who wants this? We’re terrified to say no and then we end up with gender neutral awards ceremonies.’
Taking aim at This Morning presenters Holly and Phil as well as I’m A Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec, Piers moaned: ‘Best Ant and Dec, best Phil and Holly. Best Phil and Holly, best Ant and Dec.
‘By the way, I hope you didn’t vote for us because I’m not going this year. It’s not a good night out.’
Piers just really hates losing (Picture: ITV)

Oh Piers, don’t be a spoil sport.
The TV presenter continued: ‘Hell’s waiting room is Holly Willougby sidling up to you at one of these awards and going “I don’t think it’s going to be our year this year, I think the bubble’s going to burst. Good luck”.
‘And they already know they’ve won. That’s fine but I’m bored with it so I’m not going to go this year. You can all go and do your own thing. Not interested.’
Clearly self-aware of his flaws, Piers added: ‘I don’t like losing.
‘If anything in life gets predictable it gets boring. And those awards are too predictable. National TV Awards always has the same thing and it’s boring. Who wants to go and watch the same thing every year.’

One eye-catching image shows Liam sprawled out on a bed seemingly nude with Stella, 29, positioned between his legs wearing only a pair of the brand’s underwear.
The shoot unsurprisingly didn’t impress Piers, 54, who has branded the campaign ‘ridiculous’.
‘You know what, if a female star was doing this I’d say “put your clothes on love” and I’m saying the same exact thing to Liam Payne,’ he said on Tuesday’s GMB.
Referring to his new best mate, Piers then claimed: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn’t do this, that would be ridiculous. I’m sorry that video was ridiculous.
‘A little bit too much of one direction there.’
Fans described Liam’s shoot as ‘soft-core porn’ (Picture: Mert & Marcus, HUGO BOSS)
We can never unsee it (Picture: Mert & Marcus/HUGO)
Erm, clearly Piers hasn’t seen Cristiano almost in the buff for his own clothing brand CR7 and also Altice.
Piers then recalled one moment in his documentary with Cristiano and boasted: ‘When it comes to abdominals, Ronaldo said “Piers, you have some great abdominals”.’
But Richard Arnold chided his co-host and quipped: ‘You have to dig a little deep for them.’
Not only was Piers unaware of Cristiano’s underwear campaigns, but he’s clearly not been keeping up with Liam’s personal life either.
‘He’s the one that was with Cheryl Cole right? So they consciously uncoupled?’ he asked genuinely confused.
When Richard mentioned Liam’s recent comments that he hasn’t voted in years, Piers rejected his excuse and said: ‘He can vote by Proxy. He probably hasn’t sent a letter in 10 years.’

He’s been keeping his head down ever since, but speaking at DC Con on Sunday, his co-star spoke out about the incident for the first time.
‘There’s a lot of love, I’m gonna tell Jared to stay home more often,’ the 41-year-old actor, who plays older brother Dean Winchester on the show, said.
Ackles was appearing solo at the event, as his on-screen sibling’s arrest meant he had to skip the convention.

‘We all miss my big, dumb friend,’ he continued. ‘And I’ll just say it now, he had a bad weekend last weekend. He’s dealing with what he’s gotta deal with so just send him support and some love and have a good weekend this weekend.’
The fantasy-drama follows the two stars who play demon hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, but the exact endgame of the show is under tight wraps for now.
Talking about what’s in store for the finale, executive producer Andrew Dabb said at the 2019 Television Critics Association summer press tour: ‘We’re looking at this as a true ending.
‘And in a true ending, people can’t keep coming back over and over…They’re going to be facing life or death…This time it’s for real.’ Jensen added to EW: ‘The world has just opened up, essentially, and all of those things that we have spent so many years fighting, they’re going to come knocking now.
‘It’s going to be an all-out free-for-all. In my opinion, they’re teeing up what could possibly be the best season of the show.’

Piers Morgan isn’t having any of Emma Watson’s claims that she’s ‘self-partnered’, translation: single, and suggests that it’s just a way of saying she ‘can’t get a bloke’.
There’s been a mixed reaction to the new term which Emma has coined and Piers, 54, is on the sceptical side of the debate.
‘Where do we get this rubbish from?’ he scoffed on Good Morning Britain.
He then claimed: ‘Self-partnering means you can’t get a bloke right?’
Charming.
Susanna Reid jumped to Emma’s defence and stated: ‘Emma Watson can have anyone she likes.’

Piers continued his rant: ‘Self-partnering. Consciously uncoupling, what does it all mean? You’re single. When you’re consciously uncoupled you’re getting divorced. You’re splitting up or you’re single. Why do we have to put a positive spin? Put negative spins on negatives.’
Gwyneth Paltrow probably has an answer to that.
The outspoken presenter added: ‘It’s like when people say we’re the closest of friends, we love each other dearly but we’re splitting up. Well why are you splitting up then? If you’re that close and you’re that loving, why are you splitting up.
‘I never understand the “we could not be closer”. Obviously you could be closer if you’re getting divorced.
‘You’ve got to deal with positives and negatives in a positive and negative way. Negatives happen in life, just stop trying to sugarcoat everything.’
Emma admits she felt pressure to have a baby before 30 (Picture: Alasdair McLellan, Vogue magazine)
Richard Arnold sympathised with Emma and admitted: ‘I was single at 30,’ while feigning crying.
The Beauty and the Beast actress admitted that while she initially freaked out about being single, she’s now fully embracing her own company.
She explained to Vogue: ‘I was like, ‘Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal. Cut to 29, and I’m like, “Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious”.
‘And I realise it’s because there is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around.’
She later added: ‘I never believed the whole “I’m happy single” spiel. I was like, “This is totally spiel”.
‘It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

After weeks of improvement and praise from the judges, a low scored samba saw the Viscountess’ Strictly journey come to an end as she lost to Mike Bushell in the dance off.
Understandably distraught to leave the show on Sunday, Emma put on a brave face as she left Monday night’s episode of It Takes Two, beaming for the camera alongside professional partner Aljaz Skorjanec.
The Lady of Longleat went for a glamourous all-red ensemble, coordinating her look with her Remembrance Day poppy in a gorgeous figure hugging dress with a square neckline.
Later on, the 33-year-old contestant draped a red coat over her shoulders, calming the worries of us grandmas who can’t even look at her bare arms without feeling cold.
Adding a splash of colour with her accessories, the mother-of-one wore a pair of nude pointed toe heels and carried a large handbag in her signature leopard print.

However, appearing on It Takes Two, the ever gracious Aljaz admitted that the pair had struggled with the Samba due to their similar heights.

‘The two of us are like two Avatars when we put Cuban heels on,’ the Slovenian dancer joked.
‘For someone who is five foot tall it’s easier to get the shapes [but] with our physiques, it took longer.’
However, he was quick to reassure Emma, telling her: ‘Every single week I’ve been proud of you. There hasn’t been one week where I’ve thought, “We could have done that better.”’
Oh god, now we’re getting emotional.

And it seems Emma felt the same, tearing up as she reflected on her time on Strictly.
‘I loved our Samba and everyone knows the Samba is a killer. We trained so hard and I loved the concept and I really wanted to do it well.
She continued: ‘I would love to keep dancing, I am going to miss this so much.’
We’ll miss you too, Viscountess.

She then wrote in the caption: ‘I said… 1 month today! VIKINGS final season.’
Fans were quick to comment and couldn’t contain their hype surrounding the next installment of the History Channel hit.
‘Can’t wait to see the queen of Kattegat again,’ one wrote while another added: ‘Yeahhhhhhhhh.’
Others were more concerned about the fact it’s the last season: ‘Although I can’t cope with the fact it’s the last season….’

Just recently, a brand new teaser dropped for the show and hinted at Lagertha’s final fight.

Daenerys’ apparent;y snap decision to commit genocide has been explained (Picture: HBO)
Concept art from the final season of Game of Thrones has revealed a hidden clue that helped Daenerys Targaryen make her shocking decision to destroy King’s Landing.
The penultimate episode of the eighth season, The Bells, saw Dany basically commit genocide as she sacked Westeros’ capital city atop her dragon Drogon.
The scene was massively divisive amongst fans, and it signalled the Targaryen heir’s final transformation into The Mad Queen. However, concept art featured in the behind-the-scenes book The Art of Game of Thrones has revealed a previously hidden detail that gives much-needed insight into the character’s motivations in this pivotal moment.
The sketches reveal a design element to the Red Keep where the Lannister Lion, the sigil of the ruling house of the Seven Kingdoms, pushes the Dragon Queen over the edge.
‘Being able to see the Lannister lion in the window behind the throne was very important in this illustration,’ the caption reads.
Arya Stark in the wake of the destruction of King’s Landing (Picture: HBO)
The sight of the sigil proved to be very important in Dany’s decision making. In the mythology of the show, it’s House Lannister who have usurped the Iron Throne from House Baratheon, who in turn usurped the throne after overthrowing (and thinking they destroyed) the Targaryen dynasty.
Thrones showrunner DB Weiss previously said of the character, played by Emilia Clarke, and her decision to destroy the Red Keep: ‘She sees the Red Keep, which is, to her, the home that her family built when they first came over to this country 300 years ago. It’s in that moment, on the walls of King’s Landing, when she’s looking at that symbol of everything that was taken from her, when she makes the decision to make this personal.’
We now know, of course, that the symbol Weiss is referring to was very real – it’s just a shame that the shot wasn’t included in the final cut of the episode.
This isn’t the first revelation to come from The Art of Game of Thrones either- the book previously revealed that a pivotal Jon Snow scene was cut before he killed Dany in the series finale.
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available to stream on NOW TV.

Laurence Fox admitted to Lorraine Kelly that he was ‘slightly hungover’ on Tuesday as he discussed his new album and the break down of his marriage to Billie Piper.
The singer spoke to the TV host about how he has transitioned from an actor to a singer – and despite feeling a ‘bit fragile’ the star is ‘doing good’.
He explained to Lorraine: ‘I am feeling a bit fragile today as we had a big launch party last night. I had a few gins and I can really feel the gins today.’
Lorraine asked the singer how he is coping following his divorce, but the 41-year-old assured he’s ‘been out of the other side for a while now’.

He added: ‘Other than the slight hangover things are really good. I have just finished filming – hence the awful hair.
‘I’d say it does take 18 months to two years to get out the other side, but then you are like, “hello!”‘
Laurence has previously spoken about how he struggled with sleeping and panic attacks after his marriage to Billie broke down.
The couple were married for nine years before they decided to part ways.
At the time the actor admitted that he turned to therapy to help him get through the painful split.
In 2016 he told The Sunday Mirror: ‘I haven’t slept for six months, even with sleeping pills. I go to bed the same time, same bed as the kids and just lie awake, sleeping two or three hours. My mind’s whirring round.’
Laurence went on to talk to Lorraine about his new album, his fans and how his stint on Gogglebox annoyed viewers.
He continued: ‘My new album is really honest and I can’t remember the last time I listened to music that made me feel sad, it’s a diary for me.
‘Gogglebox was also so much! I got to see my cousin every week without having to arrange our own diaries.
‘People would tweet me asking me if I ever stopped eating and some said I made horrible sounds while doing it.’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30am on ITV.

Leona Lewis was tipped for X Factor: All Stars before it was replaced for X Factor: The Band (Picture: ITV)
Simon Cowell has confirmed X Factor: All Stars has been replaced by a new series which even he’s tipped as a battle against Little Mix, who are launching their own talent show to find the UK’s next girl group in 2020.
The Syco boss revealed plans to bring back some of the most notorious stars from X Factor’s 15 years has been shelved for now. Instead, Simon will be launching X Factor: The Band, which will hunt down the UK’s answer to K-Pop sensations such as BTS and BLACKPINK.
Now it’s been claimed X Factor: All Stars lost key talent including Leona Lewis before Simon’s big announcement came yesterday.
‘[Simon] has struggled to get anyone to take part in All Stars,’ a source told The Mirror.
‘Simon has really rolled his sleeves up and is determined to make both the current series and X Factor: The Band a big success. He is more focused on work than he has been in years.’
Simon Cowell is on the hunt for a UK band to rival the K-Pop movement (Picture: ITV)
The 60-year-old told The Sun: ‘K-Pop is ruling the world. This is a show to find a band to launch UK-Pop. It’s more than winning a record contract, it’s starting a new music wave.
‘Every group will be put together by us — just like One Direction, Little Mix and Fifth Harmony. It’s people who represent Britain’s version of K-Pop. That was always our plan. We’ve just brought it forward a bit.’
Leona was thought to be going up against former champions Alexandra Burke and Shayne Ward in the series, which has been postponed to 2020.
Reps for Leona Lewis and X Factor have been contacted about this story.
X Factor: Celebrity continues this Saturday on ITV and will be followed by X Factor: The Band later this year.

DIY SOS has scooped the Bafta TV Special Award 2019 after entertaining the nation for 20 years.
But according to presenter Nick Knowles, the series, which has aired over 200 episodes since its inception in 1999, almost never made it onto our television screens.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Nick claimed that the BBC didn’t initially dig the make-over show they’d made.
‘It was a fairly inauspicious start,’ Nick told us. ‘We only got commissioned for six episodes and when we made it, it wasn’t the programme that the BBC had asked us to make.
‘They didn’t like them very much and didn’t broadcast them for a little while. It was only because they had a gap in the schedule that they aired.’
The show has been honoured with this year’s Bafta TV Award (Picture: BBC)
‘At the time they were quite radical,’ Nick continued. ‘Most building programmes were DIY programmes like Changing Rooms. Ours was very different because it was very built into its humour.’
Recalling how different the first episode of DIY SOS was to how the show is now, Nick added: ‘It’s nothing like the programme that was first commissioned.
‘People have forgotten why it’s called DIY SOS. The idea was that people who had been encouraged to do their DIY and had made a mess of it would get our builders, who came in and mended the house for them.
‘Three families would make an appeal and the public would vote and whichever family won, we’d turn up and fix their house up.’
DIY SOS has continually proved to be a popular show, with its peak audience numbers reaching 7million viewers around the UK.
Over the years, more than 20,000 volunteers have given their time, completing over £16 million worth of builds
Speaking about the show’s future, Nick said: ‘As long as people keep watching and the viewing figures are up, the BBC are only going to keep making it.
‘I’m always thinking about what the next thing is. I want to make sure the programme changes and evolves rather than staying still.’
BBC declined to comment.
The Big Build – Children In Need Special airs Wendesday 13 November at 8pm on BBC One.

Jeremy Paxman said the word ‘cleavage’ twice on University Challenge – and the contestants couldn’t contain themselves.
The TV host asked Sheffield University a question to which the answer was in fact ‘cleavage’, but it’s safe to say that’s not the response they expected as they looked amused and slightly confused by it.
The question that was asked was of them was: ‘Distinct from fracture or parting, what term denotes the tendency of minerals such a diamonds and slate to split along plainer surfaces?’
The team initially answered ‘brittle’.
Although Paxman soon corrected them with the right answer – cleavage (come on, doesn’t everyone know that?).

We couldn’t help but laugh too… (Picture: BBC)
He managed to say ‘cleavage’ twice without even cracking a smile, and continued with the questions as he looked at his prompt card, remaining his usual professional self.
Although that couldn’t be said for the rest of the contestants as they tried really hard not to laugh.
The first reviews for the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special are in…and apparently it’s a lush return to form for the beloved sitcom.
The iconic show is returning on Christmas Day for the first time in nearly 10 years and a very lucky bunch of journalists were treated to a press screening of the new episode, written once again by series creators James Corden and Ruth Jones.
The new episode will pick off from where the previous series finale left off, with both Stacey (Joanna Page) and Ness (Jones) a pregnant with their respective babies by Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Smithy (Corden) in Barry Island.
If fans were worried that the new episode would ruin the legacy of what is perhaps a perfect series from beginning to end, it seems that we’re in for a proper festive treat, via Barry and Billericay.
‘Oh my Christ!’ a Elliot Gonzalez from talkRadio said, in honour of TV icon Pam Shipman (Alison Steadman). ‘That was phenomenal. You’re all in for a treat Christmas Day.’
Heat’s Boyd Hilton added: ‘The new Gavin and Stacey is a total joy. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. Delivers on every level.’
We never doubted them for a second.
The one-off special will hopefully answer some of our biggest questions too. We still can’t sleep at night not knowing what happened on that fishing trip. Are Gavin and Stacey still together? What about Smithy and Nessa? How’s Neil, the baby?

The 71-year-old actor – who plays Mick Shipman on the beloved show – became so ‘frustrated’ about being asked if the sitcom was ever going to make a comeback that he considered an inking, so he was relieved when a Christmas special was finally confirmed.
‘I was really getting to the point, it was so frustrating, I was going to have a roll-on tattoo that just went across my forehead and said, “Sorry, I don’t know. Don’t ask”,’ he said on Lorraine.
In a joint statement on the show’s return shared earlier this year, Ruth and James said:
‘Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like. And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. ‘We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.’
Let the countdown begin!
The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special airs on Christmas Day on BBC One.

All Stars was the nostalgic reminder we all needed (Picture: Getty/ITV)
When I was a teenager, the Christmas season was fully intertwined with The X Factor.
As the Christmas lights went up in the city centre and gift-wrapped Lynx Africa sets were stockpiled in every mam’s wardrobe, there was simultaneously a comfort and an excitement in watching as the best of whatever series of X Factor were whittled down to the cream of the crop.
It was genuinely thrilling, unmissable stuff. I remember being furious when family members organised birthday parties on Saturday nights, or later, delaying nights out to watch the whole show. Seeing whether Leona Lewis or Ray Quinn would win had me on the edge of my seat. Watching as Alexandra Burke performed with actual Beyonce was trascendent. Anything Sharon Osbourne said was guaranteed watercooler material. Seeing the birth of One Direction was magical.
But then, it all changed. As The X Factor dragged on throughout the ’10s, much like a Panettone left out on the table, it became stale. The auditions didn’t feel as sincere, the stakes not as high, the sob stories even more staged. Acts emerging from the show are barely making a dent in the charts, never mind getting the Christmas number one.
The last series of X Factor I actually cared about was 2014, when Ben Haenow won and we were introduced to Fleur East – the last real potential star that the show has produced. I didn’t even watch the 2018 series. And it seems that I’m not the only one with fatigue, as the 2018 final had an average 4.8 million viewers – a drop in the ocean compared to the 19.7 million UK viewers who tuned in in 2009.
A moment (Picture: ITV)
But when it was announced that there would be an all-stars series of X Factor, my interest was piqued. The best stars of the show, from when it was good, brought back for one Avengers style mash-up? Count me in.
Those of us who watched X Factor: Battle of the Stars – a show in 2008 that saw Paul Daniels, Debbie McGee, Gillian McKeith and Rebecca Loos flex their vocal chops – knew the format was TV gold. It was bound to get people tuning in – it’s basically the television equivalent of ‘you’ll never guess what so-and-so looks like now!’ clickbait. And it was the dose of nostalgia we needed to remind us that The X Factor was good, and worth saving. It was the show that produced Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Harry Styles, Diana freakin’ Vickers.
Simon is launching X Factor: The Band instead, a show that will search for the hottest new group in the hopes of emulating the success of K-pop groups like BTS and BLACKPINK. It’s a suspiciously similar format to Little Mix: The Search, the previously announced BBC series which sees the girlband (who split from Cowell’s label Syco last year) look for a new girl group.
Little Mix have a very similar talent search (Picture: Getty)
Cowell insists he thought of the idea first, telling The Sun: ‘I was approached to co-produce that show last year by Little Mix’s management. I told them the problem was we have a conflict of interest because we are launching X Factor The Band in 2020. We were told their show was going to launch in 2021.
‘Then we had the fallout and find out Little Mix were bringing their show forward. Was that intentional because we are doing our show? I have no idea.
‘But regardless, it was too much fun not to do this year. I would rather it was us doing it first. It 100 per cent makes it more exciting there being a battle.’
Now, Syco has said that X Factor: All Stars hasn’t been axed for this project, simply put on pause while X Factor: The Band proceeds. But to me, it seems that pettiness is the reason for the one project that X Factor fans were looking forward to being ditched.
X Factor: The Band is essentially X Factor, with the solo acts removed – it’s not exactly novel. The show has formed bands during its normal process already, notably Little Mix and One Direction. This launch isn’t a fresh take, it’s a way of settling scores with a group that have bad blood with Simon, and it’s at the expense of real fans.
I really don’t care if Little Mix or Simon come out on top in this, or who thought of the idea first, if the shows aren’t good. The X Factor plan seems to be currently propelled by personal vendettas, rather than appealing to the fanbase that has kept it going for 15 years.
The fact that the next spin-off will be virtually identical to a BBC show proves to me that the X Factor is running out of ideas and steam, and it is not the fresh, exciting and chart-shaping franchise it once was. And rumours that the show was actually ditched because they were having trouble securing big name alumni suggest that I’m not the only one who thinks so.
All-Stars could have been the show to remind us of what X Factor used to be – but at this rate, maybe we’re all just better off forgetting.

They also made their opinions clear on Hopper – namely, their theory that he is still alive (we really hope he is too).
They wrote: ‘There’s a high chance they are going to kill off a main character in this season. Who do we think it’ll be?’
The post continued: ‘Hopper isn’t dead and they are yet to kill off a main character.
‘I think it’ll either be Eleven, Mike or Jonathan. I doubt they’ll put Will through it again and I think they’ll milk the Steve/Dustin bromance.
‘What do you think?’
Fans think show bosses will kill Steve off in season 4 (Picture: Netflix)
And it seems that many people have come to the same conclusion – they all think Steve will die.
One fan responded with: ‘Ugh. I hate to say this, but if someone was going to bite the bullet, it would probably be Steve. He’s gone out of his way to actively fight more then anyone save Hopper. It would make the most sense for him to go down swinging then anybody else.’
Another agreed and added: ‘I don’t think they’ll kill any of the main kids off, people will hate me for saying this but I wouldn’t say Steve is 100% safe, they do have a track record of killing great characters that we love.’
One also exclaimed that if they were going to kill off Steve ‘it would be in the last season in the final battle’.
Another continued: ‘My wager is on Steve. Not that I want him to die, but I’m expecting him to go out either protecting the kids or in some other heroic moment.’
Other Stranger Things fans are convinced that the series won’t end with season four, and that bosses will make another one.
At the end of the third season, viewers saw Jim Hopper come to a rather gruesome end – or so producers wanted us to think.
However, not everyone is certain that he is dead – and they have plenty of evidence to back this up.
One key clue is Google.
One fan Googled: ‘What kind of police officer was Hopper?’
Google then changed the search to ‘What kind of police officer IS Hopper?’ therefore suggesting that Jim is still kicking about somewhere – mind blown.
Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.

The TV host admits she does have the odd off day (Picture: ITV)
Lorraine Kelly has been heavily criticised in the past for her onscreen persona – and the TV host has admitted that she does act differently when she’s presenting.
Back in March this year, Lorraine won a tax battle over a £1.2 million bill by arguing that she does not appear on ITV each morning as herself but instead, she plays a persona called ‘Lorraine Kelly’.
And now, in light of her 60th birthday and celebrating 35 years in TV, the breakfast show host said that despite having the ‘best job in the world’, she does have her off days – she just doesn’t show it to her viewers.
‘There are days that I go into work and I don’t feel 100% but I’m not going to sit there and go “poor me, poor me”,’ she explains to BBC News.
‘I’ve got the best job in the world, but, like every single human being on earth, you don’t feel great all the time. But, you go in, and it doesn’t matter what job you do, driving a bus or whatever it is, we’ve all got that kind of persona.
‘You go home to your loved one and you go, “Oh God I’ve had a terrible day!” But you don’t do that while you’re in your work, you’re professional and you have to be.’

Will the real Lorraine please stand up? (Picture: ITV)
The book is a ‘self-help book from the heart’ and will ‘show readers how to live every day to the fullest’.
ITV star Lorraine said ahead of the book launch on 31 October: ‘Women often ask me how I manage to keep my energy, positivity and enthusiasm up, day in, day out.
‘To be honest, like all of us, I have my off days. I’ve suffered from anxiety and struggled with the menopause, but I’ve found ways to get my shine back.
‘I want to share all of those experiences and the lessons I have learned with other women so that we can all make every day a little sunnier.’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30am on ITV.
