Viewers on BBC iPlayer last night were left fuming as their New Year’s Eve countdown was ‘ruined’… by Roman Kemp interviewing Craig David of all people.
The I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star was covering the event for the BBC, with it being streamed live to iPlayer for viewers watching online.
But some people were left understandably miffed when Roman’s interview with 7 Days hitmaker Craig ran over and cut into the New Year’s countdown. The iPlayer was running a 10-second live delay, however, so it wasn’t completely their fault.
‘I was welcomed into 2020 by Craig David and Roman Kemp,’ one viewer wrote after the delay.
We don’t know about you, but we sense some bitterness in that tone…
Ultimately, the delay meant that some viewers missed the start of the fireworks display, which is really what watching the telly on New Year’s Eve is all about, isn’t it.
Some people chose to see the funny side, though. One viewer wrote: ‘The 2010s lasted exactly 10 years and one-minute thanks to Roman Kemp and Craig David for taking too long.’
Roman spent a bit too much time asking about the new Craig David album (Picture: BBC)
I was welcomed into 2020 by Craig David and Roman Kemp
The broadcast was massive news for Roman, however – it being his first big gig since leaving the I’m A Celeb jungle in third place, behind Corrie’s Andy Whyment and Queen of the Jungle Jacqueline Jossa.
The coverage of the event lasted just over 15 minutes and ending, of course, in a proper rendition of classic banger Auld Lang Syne.
After live-TV faux-pas, the party truly got started as Craig got behind the decks for Craig David Rocks Big Ben Live, even if some viewers were still annoyed that the talk of his new album is what delayed their countdown in the first place.

However, Malin Andersson has said last year’s contestants will be struggling more with the addition of another series.
And, speaking to Metro.co.uk, she suggested they will need more help with their mental health because their relevancy will be significantly shorter.
Discussing the winter edition, she told us: ‘It’s silly, it’s going to be saturated too quickly.
‘I feel sorry for the cast of [last year’s] Love Island because their life-span on social media isn’t going to be the longest, is it?
Malin Andersson suggested Love Island 2019 cast will need ‘more help’ with mental health (Picture: Rex)
‘They’re probably going to need help with their mental health in about a year’s time, when their work dries out, probably less.’
Malin – who took part on the second series of the ITV2 dating show back in 2016 – explained that, while not everyone goes into the villa looking for fame, most contestants end up using it as a platform for bigger opportunities.
‘I know there are some people who don’t go on there just for that, but ideally they are living off that show right now,’ she continued.
‘It is what it is.’
Love Island 2019 broke ratings records (Picture: ITV)
Creative Director ITV Studios Entertainment Richard Cowles said: ‘Due to the success of the show our Islanders can find themselves in the public eye following their appearance.
‘We really want to make sure they have given real consideration to this and what appearing on TV entails.
‘Discussing all of this with us forms a big part of the casting process and, ultimately, their decision to take part.’
Bosses have added enhanced psychological support and more detailed conversations with potential Islanders regarding the impact of participation on the show, as well as social media and financial management training.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Love Island for a comment.

The Big Bang Theory fans called Sheldon a hypocrite (Picture: CBS)
The Big Bang Theory fans have taken up arms against Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), branding the character a ‘hypocrite’ for his changing drinking habits throughout the show.
The popular American sitcom may have ended in May of last year, but that still hasn’t stopped fans dissecting every minute detail of what happened on screen.
One particular fan took to Reddit to call out Jim Parsons’ astrophysicist for his hypocritical approach to drinking from the first season to the last, arguing that his character had changed.
‘Sheldon Cooper PhD doesn’t drink or swear,’ they wrote. ‘But in one of the first episodes [of the show], he swears and drinks. Bruh.’
The eagle-eyed viewer then went on to pinpoint events throughout the run of the show where Sheldon would drink casually with his friends; from going to a par with Leonard and Raj when Howard announces he’s going to be a father, to one of the very first episodes where both Leonard and Sheldon are seen drinking beer.
Some other fans, however, rejected the notion that Sheldon was a hypocrite for his drinking habits – arguing instead that it was just character development as the show progressed.
‘He drinks all the time,’ one said. ‘He just doesn’t do it alone.’
Sheldon was called out by one eagle-eyed fan on Reddit (Picture: CBS)
Another insisted that: ‘[Sheldon] drinks when social convention dictates to drink.’
And since this is Reddit, there was obviously one snarky comment: ‘You’re annoyed that in 279 episodes some small things are not consistent? Interesting.’
It was well established in the show that Sheldon’s father had been a hard-drinking alcoholic who had never really understood his genius son and who had died when Sheldon was still a teenager.
Taking to Reddit (again), one wannabe detective said: ‘In season 1 episode 11 where Sheldon says at age 15, he was left in Germany (where he was visiting a university as a professor, obviously) when he was sick since his mother had to fly back to Texas to help his father since ‘the house had fallen off the cinder blocks again.’
This, they discovered, is at odds with the information we’re given about George Cooper throughout the rest of the series – Sheldon repeats often that he was 14 when his dad died.
So, what’s the truth? Or was this just one, innocent continuity error that was never picked up the show’s bosses?
The Big Bang Theory is available to stream now on Netflix.

Bradley Walsh is back with a new series of The Chase and he couldn’t help but mock the bosses over one of the questions on New Year’s Day.
It seemed that the contestants on Wednesday night’s episode were quickly beaten by The Chaser.
Although when it came to contestant Josie’s round, the ITV host wasn’t impressed by the first question she received as he commented ‘what sort of question is that?’
And in case you were wondering, Josie was asked the question, In the US, the student holiday known as ‘spring break’ typically takes place around what time of year?
The answers she was given to choose from were, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
And luckily Josie chose the correct answer which was, of course, Easter.
The other contestants that attempted to beat The Beast with Josie were Paul, OJ and Barry – although it was Josie and Barry that made it to the final.
He just couldn’t believe it (Picture: ITV)
At least Josie got the question right (Picture: ITV)
Addressing the ITV programme’s success recently on Good Morning Britain, Bradley commented: ‘It’s a great format, we have great fun. You know we don’t really use autocue, so we fly with it.
‘We play the game, that’s what’s brilliant about the show, it’s accessible and people love it.’
It’s been previously reported that there will be a trial run of a Beat the Chasers spin-off one week this year.
This update to the format will see the five quiz-masters joining forces to make one super team.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.

Lucifer star Tom Ellis made a surprise appearance in Miranda Hart’s New Year Special – and it was such fun.
It has been ten whole years since a certain someone first galloped onto our screens with the award-winning sitcom Miranda, and to mark this milestone, Miranda held a such fun celebration at the London Palladium.
Titled Miranda: My Such Fun Celebration, the special entertainment show featured a host of treats and surprises as Miranda, Sarah Hadland, Patricia Hodge, and Sally Phillips looked back over a decade of such fun, friendship, romance and all that made millions of fans connect with the sitcom but someone was missing.
But…it couldn’t be a celebration of all things Miranda without her beloved Gary, so actor Tom Ellis made the trip across the pond to surprise Miranda and the fans at the Palladium.
Tom and Miranda told stories about working together on the sitcom and Tom revealed Miranda gave him a pair of cufflinks with the initials CCS – clammy co-stars which he revealed he wore on his wedding day.
We are all for a reunion! Miranda? (Picture: BBC)
We love this! (Picture: BBC)
Towards the end of the show, the cast acted out a special Miranda and Gary honeymoon sketch reuniting all the cast and included a special appearance from Nigel Havers – and fans got rather emotional about the reunion as they took to social media to share their joy.
@mermhart#Miranda I’m not gonna lie I thought I was gonna cry when Tom Ellis came out you know😭😭😭

The new series will have ‘space for all’ (Picture: BBC / BBC Studios)
Warning: Doctor Who spoilers ahead!
Doctor Who returned in style for the first episode of its 12th series – and to say it ended on a cliffhanger would be a bit of an understatement.
All along we thought O (Sacha Dhawan) was just an old acquaintance of the Doctor and happy to help her on her mission – but it turned out the ‘spymaster’ he kept hinting at was actually the ‘spy…Master’ and he was the Doctor’s oldest enemy in a newly regenerated form.
For dedicated fans of the long-running sci-fi show, this is absolutely huge. The Master is one of the most iconic villains in Doctor Who history and is the closest thing The Doctor has to both an arch-enemy and a best friend.
Yikes (Picture: BBC)
The reveal was expertly paced, with Dhawan (whose casting and presence in the episode wasn’t announced beforehand) bursting into a fit of maniacal laughter that recalled the chaotic energy of both Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight and Andrew Scott’s Moriarty in Sherlock.
Ever since its re-boot in 2005, The Master has been an intermittent presence in The Doctor’s adventures. He was first played by Derek Jacobi and John Simm in the third series, before a gender-swapped Mistress debuted, played by The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Michelle Gomez.
Same (Picture: BBC)
The last we saw of The Master, the character seemed to be dead for good, as both Gomez and Simm returned in Peter Capaldi’s final series in the TARDIS, offing each other in the process.
We obviously have many, many questions about what we’ve just seen but our main concern right now is that The Doctor and her friends have no way to escape an airplane that’s currently crashing.
The last time we saw The Master, he was The Mistress (Picture: BBC)
Oh, The Master is back too. They should probably sort that one out.
Taking to social media after the reveal (which was, we’re happy to say, a genuine, shocking surprise) Doctor Who fans up and down the country were all..well…going a bit nuts.
Yep. Safe to say the Doctor is well and truly back.
Doctor Who returns Sunday at 7pm on BBC One.

*Warning: This article contains spoilers for Doctor Who: Spyfall Part One*
Doctor Who returned in style for the first episode of its 12th series and to say we have a lot of questions would be an understatement.
From new alien threats, intriguing character development and the return of a very, very old enemy the episode had a bit of everything for The Doctor’s (Jodie Whittaker) grand return.
In our spoiler-free review of the episode, we called it an action-packed return to form for the long-running sci-fi show, but it’s safe to say there will be plenty of spoilers here, so look away now if you haven’t watched yet.
1. Who exactly are the aliens trying to invade Earth?
These aliens spell bad news for The Doctor, (Picture: BBC)
The stakes for Spyfall were clear from the off – there’s an extraterrestrial force trying to invade Earth, and they’re inhabiting the bodies of spies as they do so.
What we didn’t get, however, was a clear idea of who these aliens actually are. The Doctor theorised they came from a different dimension or reality altogether, which explained their ghost-like appearance since they don’t have a form on Earth (hence the need for some handy human bodies).
But by the closing moments, we were no closer to figuring out who they are or what they want (apart, that is, from taking over the universe). The Doctor trapped one alien successfully, and its changing form suggests they are humanoid. Was it just us, or did they look vaguely Cybermen-like in shape?
From David Tennant’s era of the Doctor, we know there are thousands of Cybermen trapped in the Void (the space between reality) after the events of series two and we also definitely know the Cybermen are back this season – did we just witness their comeback?
2. Did we see sparks fly between Ryan and Yaz?
The pair have grown closer (Picture: BBC)
It was nice to see a light bit of comedy tonight as Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Yaz (Mandip Gill) teamed up to investigate the dodgy internet baron Daniel Barton (Sir Lenny Henry).
Going undercover as journalists, the two made a dynamic duo and it was clear from the off that there’s a definite spark between them.
There was a very interesting moment between them both as Yaz was recovering from an alien attack, with Ryan promising to take care of her.
What’s that we see? Sparks flying? It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a couple aboard the TARDIS…but this could all about to change.
3. Seriously, what is up with Daniel Barton?
Sir Lenny Henry would actually make a great Bond villain, btw (Photographer: BBC)
Sir Lenny Henry was serving absolute Bond villain realness this evening – from his sharp suit, evil yet perfectly modern lair and even brandishing a gun in a high-octane chase.
There’s still a lot to learn about Barton, however. Initially, we thought he was helping the aliens invade, but it soon became pretty clear that they were working for him.
We also know that the mogul is only 97 percent human thanks to Yaz’s quick scanning, so there’s still a massive question mark over his motivation for wanting to conquer the Earth, considering he’s one of the richest men in the world.
4. The Master. Just…The Master.
We’re not okay (Picture: BBC)
Yes, we realise this is a statement not a question but OH. MY. What a delicious reveal!
While it’s always good to see the Master (and seriously, some impressive madcap energy from Dhawan, who has the makings of a great adversary for Whittaker) his appearance raises more questions than it answers.
How did the Master return from certain death in the Peter Capaldi years? Did he take the form of O just for this episode? Is he working alongside Barton and the aliens or just a trickster on the side looking for some kicks?
SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. And we can’t find to (hopefully) find all the answers as the series continues.
5. What did The Master’s last words to The Doctor mean?
The last time we saw The Master, he was The Mistress (Picture: BBC)
‘Everything you think you know is a lie.’
Those are the last words The Master says to The Doctor before leaving her, Ryan, Yaz and Graham (Bradley Walsh) to face certain death in a crashing airplane.
But…what do they mean exactly? We can remember from the first trailer for series 12 that a story arc was heavily hinted at, with The Doctor saying ‘something is coming for me.’ But we can’t help but think the seeds for a bigger story were planted in Whittaker’s first series, too.
We’re taking ourselves back to the second instalment of series 11, where The Doctor reacts rather virulent to a mention of ‘the Timeless Child.’
Obviously, these two events have to be connected and we wouldn’t be surprised if the Time Lords – the race of aliens The Doctor belongs to – are involved.
We don’t know about you, but it sounds like a massive conspiracy throughout all of time and space is about to be revealed…
Doctor Who continues 12 January at 7pm on BBC One.

Get the New Year off to a bloody good start (Pictures: BBC)
First introduced to the world in 1897, Dracula has been a villain/hero/anti-hero and everything in-between for centuries.
He’s getting another introduction to the world thanks to the latest BBC adaptation, written by Sherlock writer Mark Gatiss and Doctor Who’s Steven Moffat – and they’re out to give you nightmares.
The show will be split into three 90-minute episodes, and the synopsis reads: ‘In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.’
So who is in the new BBC adaptation of Dracula and what else have they starred in before?
Dracula (Claes Bang)
Claes Bang is a beautiful nightmare as Dracula (Picture: PA/BBC)
Fangfully the actor stepping into the iconic role of Count Dracula is no stranger to playing dark and broody.
Claes Bang, 53, is a Danish actor known for roles in The Square opposite The Handmaid’s Tale Elisabeth Moss, The Girl in the Spider’s Web and The Affair.
Speaking with The Guardian about his attraction to the role, Bang said: ‘It was the loneliness of that character that got to me. Imagine what it’s like: it’s a Tuesday evening, 1718, mid-November, you haven’t had any company in your castle for 200 years. There’s a sadness that I really liked.’
Sister Agatha (Dolly Wells)
Sister Dolly (Picture: BBC/Getty)
Described as a whip-smart nun suffering a loss of faith, Sister Agatha finds a new purpose when she meets Jonathan Harker.
Viewers might recognise Sister Agatha from less-dark fare than Dracula.
Dolly Wells has starred in Bridget Jones’ Diary (and the 2016 sequel Bridget Jones’ Baby) and The IT Crowd.
Jonathan Harker (John Heffernan)
The character’s first meeting with Dracula and his brides in Stoker’s novel helped create the legend (Picture: BBC/Getty)
Jonathan Harker is one of the first characters introduced in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, Dracula, so it’s only fitting he appears in the show.
The character might look familiar to some viewers as actor John Heffernan appeared in Netflix’s The Crown as Lord Altrincham, as well as parts in Luther and the movie Eye in the Sky alongside Helen Mirren.
Mother Superior (Joanna Scanlan)
If she could handle The Thick of It’s Malcolm Tucker, she can handle Dracula (Picture: Getty/ BBC)
The character of Mother Superior is the head of a Hungarian chapter of nuns, and is set to clash with Sister Agatha.
The actress playing her, Joanna Scanlan, will be most familiar to viewers for her role as Terri in BBC’s The Thick of It.
She has also starred in Hold the Sunset alongside Gavin and Stacey’s Alison Steadman and the 2017 movie How to Talk to Girls at Parties alongside Nicole Kidman.
Mina (Morfydd Clark)
Actress Morfydd is fresh off another hit BBC adaptation (Picture: Getty Images for HBO)
Best known for Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, and most recently the BBC adaptation of His Dark Materials, Morfydd Clark is playing the character of Mina.
Also appearing in some of the episodes include The League of Gentleman’s Lyndsey Marshal, Phantom Thread’s Lujza Richter and The Imitation Game’s Matthew Beard.
Dracula’s first episode airs New Year’s Day from 9pm on BBC One.
Speaking with Digital Spy about Doctor Who’s 12th season, showrunner Chris Chibnall said: ‘We are on a journey with this Doctor and these characters so we want to do big, emotional, action-packed, scary, funny stories and we want to go up a level from last year.
‘Last year was a recruitment year for the show, for the Doctor, getting everybody in. It’s always a stepping on point with a new Doctor, and also bringing that existing audience as well. This year, we’re saying to those people – “OK, here is the amazing world of Doctor Who, here’s lots of treats, here’s lots of new stuff, some old stuff, let’s see what you make of this”. But also for ourselves, the ambition is go up a level. And I think we’ve done that.’
Doctor Who fans have been left questioning everything after the latest episode’s references to its sister show Torchwood.
How else would we start 2020 other than with a good old touch of nostalgia?
In the action-packed first episode of series 12, The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) was faced with saving the planet once again, with fans being treated to some cracking cameos, including Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry.
However, some fans are fixated on a weird link to Torchwood in the form of the creepy villain’s voice, which many have pointed out is incredibly similar to the 456 from the Children Of Earth series.
For those who don’t know, the 456 was an alien race that used human children as a kind of drug hit, attaching themselves to them over a life support unit. Creepy stuff.
While the ambassador of the species was seemingly killed off in the series, the rest of them simply retreated from Earth, meaning they could theoretically return.
It would definitely be a pretty niche reference but certainly not beyond Who writers.
And the references didn’t end there, with Stephen’s character C actually mentioning the team of alien hunters headed up by Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman).
‘MI6 has never countenanced the possibility of extraterrestrial life,’ he said. ‘The country has other organisations that deal with all that, Unit, even Torchwood.’
‘They’re all gone, C you took your eye off the horizon,’ the Doctor replied.
Previously played by the likes of Derek Jacobi and John Simm before a gender-swapped version in the form of Michelle Gomez appeared on screen, The Master is one of the most iconic villains in the series – so this is big for Who fans.

Hands down the funniest episode ever (Picture: C4/Love Productions)
The Derry Girls left Great Festive Bake Off viewers in stitches over their disastrous attempt at cooking – and we wish every episode was just like it.
A Great British Bake Off spin-off for the festive season saw the stars of the hit Channel 4 comedy battle it out as they made trifles, canapes, and a showstopper cake – but it’s safe to say it didn’t go to plan for some of them.
The celeb’s got rather competitive as it was clear to see that they all wanted to win the prize of Star Baker from judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
The comedy’s most recognisable faces included Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Erin), Nicola Coughlan (Clare), Jamie-Lee O’Donnell (Michelle), Dylan Llewellyn (James) and Siobhan McSweeney (Sister Michael) who all took part in the competition.
That doesn’t seem to be going too well, Sister (Picture: Channel 4)
There was real fighting talk from everyone’s favourite on-screen nun, as Sister Michael actress Siobhan McSweeney who won the canape challenge as she exclaimed: ‘I’m in it to win it.’
Bake Off fans took to Twitter to share their delight at the festive episode – with many claiming it was the ‘best ever’.
Derry Girls has become a big hit, with the first episode of series two achieving a consolidated viewership of 3.2million, the biggest UK comedy launch on the network for 15 years.

Creator Lisa said: ‘I love writing this show and I’m so thrilled to be able to continue the Derry Girls story, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the eejits live to fight another day!’
The Derry Girls edition of The Great Festive Bake Off can be watched on catch up on Channel 4.

Doctor Who returned in style for the first episode of its 12th series – and to say it ended on a cliffhanger would be a bit of an understatement.
All along we thought O (Sacha Dhawan) was just an old acquaintance of the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and happy to help her on her mission – but it turned out the ‘spymaster’ he kept hinting at was actually the ‘spy…Master’ and he was actually the Doctor’s oldest enemy in a newly regenerated form.
So, now The Master’s back…what does it all mean? And, while we’re at it, why is The Master so important anyway?!
Who is The Master?
The Master can be best described as The Doctor’s worst enemy and best friend all rolled into one.
Like The Doctor, The Master is also a Time Lord and the two have a storied history together that links all the way back to their childhoods on home planet Gallifrey.
Originally conceived as the Professor Moriarty to the Doctor’s Sherlock Holmes, The Master has had an intermittent presence in adventures on the long-running sci-fi show since his debut all the way back in 1971.
He’s been played by eight different actors in total, including Michelle Gomez who was cast as a gender-swapped regeneration knows as The Mistress.
Basically, The Master is one of Doctor Who’s biggest Big Bads and is up there with the Daleks and the Cybermen in terms of the threat he poses to our favourite hero.
John Simm played The Master in the third series in 2007 (Picture: BBC)
What does this mean for The Doctor?
Well, The Master turning up is never good news. The first part of Spyfall made it very clear that the aliens trying to invade Earth are not wholly autonomous.
We thought at first they might be following Daniel Barton (Sir Lenny Henry) but if The Master is good at anything its..well…he does what he says on the tin. We don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to find out that someone else as been pulling Barton’s strings…
So, The Doctor has another enemy to fight, but the Master is not just any old enemy. He knows the Doctor well, better than perhaps anyone else in all of time and space, so whenever the two clash it always gets personal. Which leads us to…
Is The Master holding Daniel Barton’s strings? (Picture: BBC)
‘Everything that you know is a lie…’
These were The Master’s parting words to The Doctor at the end of Spyfall. Obviously, this is the very beginning of the series so we’re not going to get any answers yet – but we can (and will!) speculate.
We can remember from the first trailer for series 12 that a story arc was heavily hinted at, with The Doctor saying ‘something is coming for me.’ But we can’t help but think the seeds for a bigger story were planted all the way back in Whittaker’s first series too.
In the second episode of the 11th season, the Doctor is spooked when the very ominous-looking Remnants mention ‘the Timeless Child.’
‘We see deeper though, further back,’ they said. ‘The Timeless Child… we see what’s hidden, even from yourself. The outcast, abandoned and unknown…’
Now, we don’t know about you – but this all screams Time Lord to us. The Doctor has a very tumultuous history with her own species – one that could easily turn very sour.
The old Time Lords have been a bit quiet since being saved from certain death in the 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor – could they return as the ultimate villains of this series?
But basically, the Master is back! Get excited, we know we are.
Doctor Who continues 5 January on BBC One.

We are sure it will be just as popular Joel (Photo by Vincent Dolman/ITV/REX)
Joel Dommett has fears over the UK’s new talent show The Masked Singer as he hopes it ‘will do as well as the American version’.
The Extra Camp host with be taking the reigns by presenting the new ITV show, which will see celebrities all dressed up in disguise – and the star-studded judging panel will have to guess who they are with just a few clues.
Joining Joel are celebrity judges Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Ken Jeong.
Speaking ahead of the first episode which airs on Saturday, the comedian told Metro.co.uk: ‘I really hope it will do as well as the American version.
‘I’ve just been in Australia and they’ve got a version there as well, and that did really well.
‘And it’s in Germany as well. So it’s done really well in every country it’s been in, so I kind of hope that the English people love it as much as everyone else does.’

But can you guess who is who? (Photo by Vincent Dolman/ITV/REX)
Speaking about the concept of the talent show, he continued: ‘It’s just so joyous. It’s so different to anything else we’ve seen before and it’s quite tongue in cheek about other shows that might look similar.
‘It’s really lovely to see that fun back on television on Saturday nights again and it’s just really great. I never enjoy watching stuff I’m in and I really enjoyed that.’
The 34-year-old has also teased fans about some of the mystery celebrities taking part as he promised some ‘big names’.
He added: ‘They come from very different facets of life and they’re definitely way better than I anticipated them to be, which is great.
‘I think we all felt a lot of pressure in terms of we knew how much it relied on the cast because if it was disappointment after disappointment after disappointment, people would just turn off. But it really delivers on every level. There are some people in there that you would not anticipate on them doing a show like this at all.
‘It’s nice to find out why they did it and what they got out of it… it’s a lot of emotion for people a lot of the time. And that’s what brings a lot of heart to it, that reason why people have done it.
‘And it’s nice to see people doing things for not necessarily a selfish reason… People found out a lot about themselves as they went further and pushed themselves further.’
The Masked Singer airs on ITV on January 4.

Did you spot the Sherlock Easter Egg in tonight’s Dracula? (Picture: BBC)
*Warning: This article contains spoilers from tonight’s opening episode of Dracula on BBC One.
Dracula finally got his teeth stuck into 2020 tonight as Stephen Moffatt and Mark Gatiss’s vamp rang in the New Year with a naked bloodbath. Amen.
The masterminds behind easily one of the best shows of the decade in Sherlock have revived another classic literary hero, and Claes Bang’s beast on the BBC was another huge triumph.
Midway through tonight’s instalment, Sister Agatha (played by Dolly Wells) floored Jonathan Harker (John Heffernan) by revealing the suspiciously quiet nun beside her throughout his interrogation was actually his fiancée, Mina (Morfydd Clark).
‘I apologise for the deception; it was necessary she heard the story from your own lips,’ Agatha, who later turned out to be revealed as Van Helsing teased.
And then you may have missed:
‘Having established your identity, it was not difficult to trace you back to England and find your worried fiancé. I have a detective acquaintance in London.’

During the Dracula world premiere, Moffat and Gatiss – who also cleared up Dracula’s sexuality – confirmed said detective is, of course, our Sherlock.
Dracula continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.

Dracula star Claes Bang dissects that naked bloodbath (Picture: BBC/Getty)
Dracula launched tonight with a spectacular bloodbath drenched in golden nuggets for viewers to sink their teeth into, closing with Claes Bang’s vamp breaking into Sister Agatha’s convent – naked.
Mark Gatiss and Stephen Moffatt’s drama was packed with unapologetic gore, nudity and melted down sex toys rarely seen on the BBC, and Claes, 52, voluntarily stepped up to suffer for his art. Thankfully, it paid off.
The Danish-born actor actually put his hand up to film the final moments of tonight’s premiere in the buff, taking the plunge in below-freezing temperatures.
Claes was drenched in slime and grime made out of melted down sex toys (Picture: BBC)
‘The very lovely thing about that scene is we went around to Slovakia to shoot it because you can’t shoot something like that in the UK but we couldn’t shoot the whole thing there,’ Claes explained during the Dracula World Premiere.
‘We shot the whole thing across three days, I think, and then we came back and did another two days here so it took five days [to film].
‘I have to say, I was the one who said he should not wear any clothes. I know it’s slightly weird but it was written like that and I think it has an impact that he was there with no clothes on, to some extent.’
The nuns had it coming (Picture: BBC)
‘It was about minus five in Slovakia,’ Mark chipped in.
‘Yes, and it’s 10 minutes that whole scene and we did that whole scene every time,’ Cleas stressed.
His co-star Dolly Wells, who is an undisputed triumph as the comical but ferocious Agatha – or Van Helsing as we discovered tonight – joked working with the naked Dane was ‘ghastly’.
‘I felt quite guilty because I had long johns, I had so many clothes on,’ she grinned.
Tonight’s episode also included a hidden Sherlock Easter egg, which if you blinked at all during the 90 minutes (why would you?) it could have been missed.
Dracula continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.

All the burning questions from tonight’s Dracula (Picture: BBC/Netflix/Getty)
*Warning: This article contains spoilers from Dracula episode one.
Who knew we needed another Dracula, eh? Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss brought the vampire back to life for his 1000th reincarnation tonight for a bold blood-soaked horror bound to have brought gasps all over the country in the ghoulish BBC drama.
Episode one introduced the comical but ferocious Sister Agatha, who was later revealed to be Agatha Van Helsing – the arch-nemesis of Bram Stoker’s beast.
While we watched in horror as Dracula played with his unfortunate houseguest Jonathan Harker (John Heffernan) for 60 minutes, the solicitor recalled his stay with the Count to Agatha and a suspiciously silent nun, who turned out to be his fiancée, Mina.
After a month, Dracula tracked down his prey in the convent, squaring up to a miraculously unfazed Agatha before slaughtering all her sisters in a naked bloodbath. It was quite something.
And after the 90-minute feature-length introduction to 2020’s most sinister new creation, we have plenty of questions ahead of episode two.
How will Sister Agatha and Mina get out of this one?
Tonight’s nail-biter closed with Agatha and Mina in quite the predicament after hiding from Dracula in the laboratory. Johnny came trawling into the cellar, pleading with Mina to invite him into their nest, which, against Agatha’s judgment, she obliged. Only, after realising Johnny’s blue eyes had changed colour and hiding beneath them was Dracula, who brutally killed her fiancé and used his face as a mask.
In turn, the sisters have found themselves trapped with Drac with nowhere to turn. How they could possibly escape? Your guess is as good as ours.
What does the Van Helsing twist mean?
Sister Agatha is actually Sister Agatha Van Helsing in Dracula (Picture: BBC)
After licking up Agatha’s blood, Dracula realised she was a greater foe than he was prepared for – Van Helsing. Professor Abraham Van Helsing was the fearless vampire hunter in Stoker’s 1897 gothic novel Dracula, which subsequently explains Agatha’s profound wealth of knowledge about the creature.
‘I’m your every nightmare at once; an educated woman in a crucifix,’ Agatha hissed at Dracula tonight. We’re ready for it.
What is Agatha’s back story?
Sister Agatha’s knowledge of the vamp raises questions (Picture: BBC)
After Moffat and Gatiss switched up Van Helsing for a welcomed twist, perhaps we’ll discover more of Agatha’s backstory, including where her fascination with Dracula came from. Was Professor Abraham her father? Hopefully Moffatt and Gatiss have been a little more inventive than that.
Why do the crosses work against Dracula?
‘You’ll never guess why,’ Dracula smirked as the sisters frantically darted around the convent being chased by blood-thirsty hounds.
While it’s a long-running myth that Dracula is an evil spirit working with the devil, which explains his aversion to the cross, he confirmed tonight that his repulsion to the crucifix isn’t spiritual at all.
‘He’s terrified of the cross and yet he’s no believer,’ Agatha pondered.
She vowed: ‘Somehow these facts are all the same fact there’s something that Dracula fears most of all and to destroy him, we must discover it.’
What is his weakness? Hopefully, all will be revealed in due course.
Will Sherlock pop up to help Sister Agatha?
Did you spot the Sherlock Easter egg tonight? (Picture: BBC)
Obviously this is as likely as Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman celebrating New Year’s Day together after that public spat, but did you spot the Sherlock Easter egg? Agatha revealed her friend in London was a detective, which was how she managed to track down Johnathan’s fiancé, Mina.
Moffat and Gatiss confirmed that said detective is, in fact, Sherlock.
Dracula continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One.

Joe has proven to be a hit with fans despite his problematic behaviour (Picture: Netflix)
Warning: spoilers are ahead, so if you haven’t got to the end of season two yet you might want to turn back now.
Season two of Netflix’s You left fans reeling – and it’s safe to say they weren’t disappointed by the ending either (sorry if you haven’t seen it yet).
Joe Golberg (Penn Badgley) has finally met his match in Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) as it turns out she is just as much as a psycho as he is – and she even went to extreme lengths to keep him around – particularly offing Candace (Ambyr Chambers), Joe’s persevering ex-girlfriend hell-bent on revenge.
However many viewers were left scratching their heads about who Joe’s neighbour is – and one eagled-eye fan has a very specific theory about the mystery woman.
The theory surrounds the ending of Season two when Joe appears to find his next obsession (his new neighbour).
Who is Joe’s mystery neighbour? (Picture: Netflix)
‘This is just the beginning. Because this is where I had to be exactly where I had to be to meet You,’ he exclaims in a voiceover while trying to look through a hole in his neighbour’s fence.
‘There you were with your books and your sunshine, so close but worlds away. I will figure out a way. A way to get to you. See you soon, neighbour.’
It would be very easy to assume that the mystery character is just his next ‘target’ – although on fan specifically believes it’s Joe’s mum.
Taking to Twitter they posted: ‘I’m telling y’all the woman at the end is going to be Joe’s mom and not a new girl he’s obsessed with. I think she disappeared and started a new family and Joe finally decided to track her down for obvious reasons… He’s absolutely stalking his mom in S3 #YouSeasonTwo’
Other You fans quickly responded agreeing with the theory.
One commented: ‘Great theory, the woman looks to be possibly married and slightly older. The way her hands and arms look, makes me think so. Why would Joe go for a married woman plus one living so close by. He’s insane but doesn’t seem like something he would do.’

Another added: ‘Yo this theory is freakishly spot on. Thought the same thing cause she looked super old..’
One agreed: ‘I love this theory! I had not thought of this but it makes perfect sense to me!!!.’
Either way, we will just have to wait to find out who the mystery woman is…
You is available to stream on Netflix.

Brenda Blethyn has teased Vera fans about what we can expect in series 10 – it’s not like we have waited for ages, Brenda.
The actress will be back as our much-loved detective DCI Stanhope in January 2020 as we embark on the new season.
Ahead of the four-part drama, Brenda has given fans a glimpse into what happens – and it turns out TV bosses decided to shake-up the new series by focussing on four brand-new, self-contained stories.
‘Episode one in series 10 is called Blood Will Tell,’ she began.
‘We filmed some of the scenes at the Tan Hill Inn at Swaledale in North Yorkshire which is the highest pub in Britain. It also features an appearance from the Great North Air Ambulance. The people involved in that are fantastic.
Our favourite detective is back! (Picture: ITV)
‘Episode two, Parent Not Expected, is a story that includes a salmon fishing farm. We filmed that at Burnmouth in the Scottish Borders and other places including Alnwick, Whitley Bay and the Woodhorn Museum near Ashington.
‘It rained and it rained and it rained. We had to keep changing the location because of the rain. Improvising around it but it sometimes proved beneficial.’
She continued: ‘Episode three is called Dirty and is set around a commercial cleaning company. There are some interesting locations including the former Brett Oils factory on the banks of the Tyne in Gateshead opposite the Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle. While episode four, The Escape Ten, included filming at Sunderland Greyhound Stadium.’
It looks like it’s going to be a good series! (Picture: ITV)
The star also exclaimed that she wants to continue filming for as long as she can.
‘I’m fit and well. Why not? It’s a comfort. You want Vera to go on,’ she added.
‘You look forward to doing more. After you’ve had a breather. But I don’t think I can play Vera on a Zimmer. Or maybe I can.’
She’s BACK! (Picture: Owen Humphreys)
Recently ITV dropped a first-look clip of series 10 and sees Vera moaning at Aidan Healy (Kenny Doughty) ‘you haven’t got peas with mine, have you?’
To which he responds? ‘Have I ever got peas in yours?’
The trailer then skips to different clips of our favourite detective asking questions and just being generally well…Vera.
‘Get out and start searching,’ she shouts.
‘What have we got? Where did you run? What did you talk about? What do you know?’
Taking to Twitter ITV posted: ‘Aye pet, we’re heading up north because DCI Stanhope is back on the scene. The new series of Vera. Starts Sunday 12 January only on @ITV @BrendaBlethyn @VeraSeries.’
We can’t wait to see our favourite detective back in action.
Vera will be back on 12 January on ITV at 8pm.

Alicia Agneson returns while Lagertha warns of battle (Picture: History / Instagram)
Vikings season six is the gift that keeps on giving, and this week’s instalment was no exception.
Following the death of Bjorn’s son Hali (Ryan Henson), the hour long episode showed the aftermath of the tragic event, which saw Lagertha’s village raided by White Hair and his men.
Over in Norway, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) has no idea his boy has been murdered, and has found himself going head to head with Harald (Peter Franzén) for the crown.
And if that wasn’t enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, Alica Agneson who played Ivar’s late wife Freydis in season five, has now returned into the new role of Princess Katya – and her former hubby was just as shook as we were at her comeback.
It was one intense episode that has left us with all the questions, as we let what we’ve just watched sink in.
Who will be crowned King of Norway?
Will Bjorn or Harald take the throne? (Picture: History)
First things first, who the heck is going to take the crown for the whole of Norway?
Olaf (Steven Berkoff) seems pretty convinced that it’s already in the hands of Bjorn, however, if the show sticks to the history books, then it should really land in Harald Finehair’s lap.
So while it seems like an easy win for the Son of Ragnar, don’t be fooled if next week we’re given a shock twist, seeing a new King in the form of Harald.
Trailers have already teased his reign by showing the warrior on the battle fields while wearing a crown.
Whether or not it comes easy to him we still don’t know, but one thing is for sure – director Michael Hirst has swerved history before, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he did it again for some dramatic plotline.
And let’s be serious, we wouldn’t be angry if he did.
Will White Hair return to Lagertha’s farm?
Lagertha will avenge Hali’s death (Picture: History)
White Hair (Kieran O’Reilly) has got to have a lot of nerve if he wants to take on Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) again, especially after killing her grandson in cold blooded murder.
The bandit ran away from the farm after he was defeated by the former shieldmaidens.
But it looks as though he’ll be back, as Lags has now gone and made a trap for when he returns with his army of outcasts.
When Gunnhild (Ragga Ragnars) arrives at the village, she shares a heart to heart with her mother-in-law who informs her Hali has died.
‘Hali is dead, it is my fault I did not protect him,’ she chokes up before expressing: ‘They will attack again soon, they did not manage to take out grain
Talking about her old self, she then states: ‘Perhaps that Lagertha is already dead I buried her myself then I had to dig her up again.
‘But she is not the same, she can never be the same.’
Will Hvitserk kill Ivar?
Hvitserk needs a hug y’all (Picture: History)
Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø) is going through his own personal battle with PTSD after watching his girlfriend Thora (Eve Conolly) being burned to death, following on from the murder of his other girlfriend Margrethe (Ida Marie Nielsen), as well as losing his brother Ivar and believing he could be dead.
And while he turn to self-medicating, the Son of Ragnar finds himself hallucinating his deceased loved ones.
When sat in his barn after chomping down on some mushrooms, Thora appears covered in burns as she drags herself through the wall – like something out of a Freddy Krueger film.
‘Look at me Hvitserk,’ she whispers to her man before saying: ‘IIvar did this to me, look at me don’t be afraid.’
Hvitserk cowers into a corner as his ex starts to creep closer and closer while planting sinister thoughts into his mind.
‘I want revenge, the only person who can avenge my death is you,’ she hisses: ‘You have to kill Ivar. Ivar killed me, he killed my family. You will do it won’t you?’
Crying at his vision, Hvitserk swears on the arm ring his father gave him as he chants: ‘I swear, I swear.’
Is this scene setting up an epic showdown between the two brothers? We sure hope so!
Who is Princess Katya?
Who is she? (Picture: History)
Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky) is sure plotting something after introducing his new bride to Ivar The Boneless.
The actress who played Ivar’s late wife has now returned to the show as Oleg’s girl, and it’s not sitting right with the fallen king.
Walking into his chambers, the Oleg announces his bride to his guests: ‘I want to introduce you to my intended bride, this is Princess Katya.’
Ivar turns his head to see the newcomer and looks pretty perplexed – as though he’d just seen a ghost enter the room.
‘My dear Katya, may I introduce you to my cousin lord, Prince Igor,’ Oleg says as Igor (Oran Glynn O’Donovan) gets up to meet her.
‘And this is the Viking king I told you about,’ he continues: ‘This is Ivar, the famous Ivar The Boneless.’
Lost for words, the Son of Ragnar manages to splutter up: ‘Princess.’
Completely baffled by their similarities, he quizzes the newbie later on in the episode, and tells her that they used to be married.
‘Princess,’ he tells her: I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to talk to you privately sure you understand why I need to talk to you – Oleg is playing games with me.’
But is she related to Freydis or is this all just a coincidence? We guess we’ll find out soon as Vikings returns to the History Channel and Amazon Prime on Wednesday.

Kate Garraway and Myles Stephenson’s flirty banter is keeping strong even after I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here as the pair blushed through a reunion on Good Morning Britain.
Joined by Ben Shepherd in the studio to present today’s show, Kate couldn’t help herself but make a joke or two with Rak-Su’s Myles, 28 – before confessing she stalks his Insta
As Myles joined her in a professional capacity on GMB, Ben couldn’t help but point out Kate’s spring in her step with their temp showbiz correspondent causing her to beam.
‘Is this the first time there has been a reunion on screen?,’ Ben asked her, to which Kate replied: ‘No, no. We’ve done it several times. On and off.’
Myles then wound her up even more with a cheeky grin and a ‘hello darling’ to kick off their chat.

Unable to stop blushing, Kate then revealed that she’d been keeping a keen eye on what he’d been keeping up to since leaving the jungle – including his New Year’s Eve bash.
‘If you follow Myles on Instagram, which I do very closely, and in real life…,’ she admitted.

He previously told Lorraine Kelly: ‘At first I was getting jealous and paranoid and then I remembered she is my wife and she is coming home to me.
‘So I am the winner really.’
The couple have two children together, 13-year-old Darcey and William, 10.
