Netflix viewers are flocking to a Michael McIntyre stand-up special to ring in the New Year.
The 48-year-old comedian, who also presents the Big Show and The Wheel, began his career in 1999 and in the years since has performed at the Royal Variety Performance three times and in 2012 was named the highest-grossing stand-up comedian in the world.
That title was awarded not long after he embarked on a record-breaking tour of 71 UK dates playing to over 700,000 people.
Three years later he toured his Happy and Glorious show, in which he shared ‘anecdotes about his sleeping wife, service station toilet trips and waiters who don’t carry pen and paper, with the recording of it now being uploaded onto the streaming service.
In the day since the comedy special was dropped, fans have raced to watch it, sending it flying up into the Top 10 charts on New Year’s Day.
But for those wanting to learn more about the comedian away from the spotlight, here’s everything we know about his private life, including his famous in-laws.
Who is Michael McIntyre’s wife?
Michael’s wife is forever appearing in the form of anecdotes in his performances.
The TV star is blissfully loved up with his wife, Kitty, whom he married in 2003.
She is no stranger to fame herself, given that she’s the daughter of actor Simon Ward and sister of actress Sophie Ward.
After his father-in-law died in 2012, Michael revealed: ‘He was one of my closest friends. He would come to my gigs in the early days.’
Unlike her famous relatives, though, Kitty is more private, working as an aromatherapist in London.
But that doesn’t mean we don’t know much about her, as her antics have been giving Michael ammunition for years.
One of his most famous gags was, of course, his brilliant sketch about Kitty trying to put her tights on.
Do they have any children?
Michael and Kitty have two sons, Lucas and Oscar, who are also frequently mentioned in their dad’s routines.
In a famous skit about the struggles of putting his young sons to bed, the comedian once joked: ‘You never love your children more than when they’re unconscious, but still breathing.’
In another joke about his beloved children, he said: ‘My son’s got two words: car and map, that’s all he can say. “Car, car, map, car!”
‘I’m fairly worried he’s trying to escape. So if the next word is passport, we’re in serious trouble.’
Where does Michael McIntyre live?
As of 2023, Michael lives in Hampstead, London with his family, but they also have a house in Wiltshire.
In May 2020, the comic splashed out on a second home after seeing his net worth soar, purchasing another pad in the capital for a cool £10million.
The eight-bedroom property boasts a swimming pool in the basement, as well as an ultra-modern cinema.
He also has a spa after where he can unwind after a workout in his gym.
