Martin Clunes reprises his role as grumpy medic Dr Martin Ellingham in the new series of Doc Martin.
The ITV drama is returning for a ninth series and sees the return of a number of familiar faces including as Caroline Catz who plays the doctor’s wife Louise Ellingham, Dame Eileen Atkins as the formidable Aunt Ruth and Ian McNeice as Bert Large.
As always, the drama is filmed in and around the picturesque Port Isaac in Cornwall, which stands in for the show’s fictional seaside village of Portwenn.
Here are some of the Doc Martin filming locations.
Fern Cottage
Fern Cottage is one of the most recognisable locations from the series and stands in for Doc Martin’s medical surgery.
It can be found 100m past the Port Isaac harbour and up the hill, and boasts impressive views of the village.
Fans can rent from Home Away to see the building in all its glory.
Doydens Castle, Port Quin
The most romantic spot of the show, Doydens Castle is where Mrs Tishell declared her love for Doc Martin at the end of the fifth series.
The castle is nestled in the cliffs in neighbouring Port Quin, and is even available for holiday rental through National Trust.
St Nonna’s Church, Altarnun
Doc Martin was first jilted at the altar at the idyllic St Nonna’s Church, but later tied the knot there with sweetheart Louise.
The 12th century church, known as the Cathedral of the Moor, sits beside the Altarnun village green and river.
Port Isaac
While most of the interior shots in Doc Martin are filmed at Roscarrock Manor Farm – also the backdrop for Nampara House in the original Poldark – a number of sets also fall in Port Isaac.
The Liberal Club stands in as a village shop while the Golden Lion Pub is where Doc Martin enjoys a pint.
The only interior set filmed in Port Isaac is at Buttermilk Confections which doubles as Mrs Tishall’s Chemist Shop.
Doc Martin returns on Wednesday 25th September at 9pm on ITV.
