Scenes shot by Mike Thalassitis for MTV’s Ex On The Beach won’t be aired following his death, with the entire 10th series put back on the shelf.

The reality star, 26, had filmed for the dating show back in September last year, with it unclear whether those moments would make it to air after his body was found in a North London park over the weekend.

Now it’s been confirmed show bosses have decided ‘there are more important things than pulling a series’ in the wake of recent tragic events and have decided to pull the show.

In a statement to Metro.co.uk, an MTV spokesperson said: ‘We were very sad to hear the tragic news about Mike Thalassitis and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

‘Last year, Mike took part in filming for the next series of Ex on the Beach, which was due to air on MTV later in the year.

‘In light of the news of Mike’s death, we have decided not to broadcast the planned tenth season of the show.’

A source previously told to the Sun: ‘Who knows if it will ever eventually see the light of day but for the foreseeable future they agreed it would be insensitive to Mike’s friends and family to air it.

‘It’s not a decision they have taken lightly as series like this do not come cheap.’

Following his spin on Love Island in 2017, Mike went on to star in Celebs Go Dating last year. After a seven-month romance with Megan McKenna, Mike then signed up for the MTV reality series.

Sources at the time told The Sun: ‘Mike is really keen to find himself a new woman following the end of his romance with Megan, he really wants to get his love life back on track.’

They added that MTV were keen to sign Megan back up for the series – she previously appeared on series three and four of the show – and reunite her with Mike on camera.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the reality star had died by suicide after his body was found in woodland.

Fans and fellow stars have taken to social media to pay tribute to Mike, who shot to fame on the third series of Love Island, while his ex Megan broke her silence on Instagram on Monday.

‘Sorry I haven’t been on social media but I’m in complete shock and trying to come to terms with this. I can’t believe I’m even writing this post,’ she shared.

‘My thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family.

‘Rest in peace Mike.’

Buffy The Vampire Slayer spin-off Angel could be getting a reboot of some sort, throwing us right back to the 90s.

David Boreanaz, who played the title character, confessed on American chat show The Talk that a reunion is on the cards as the show prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

‘We’re coming up on our 20 years,’ he spilled. ‘That’s amazing to have been blessed with a show like that. That’s really where I started my gig in this acting world.

‘I love that character. So I will say there may be something coming up.’

David Boreanaz could be back as Angel later this year (Picture: Getty)

David added: ‘I don’t want to give away a lot. It’s 20 years coming up this fall, and we may have something in the works.’

Although just how the cast will be making a comeback remains firmly under wraps, it’s likely they’ll be embarking on a photo shoot – just like the Buffy cast did back in 2017 to celebrate their 20-year milestone.

Entertainment Weekly rounded up David, Kristine Sutherland, Michelle Trachtenberg, Amber Benson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Seth Green, James Marsters and Emma Caulfield for the occasion, as well as the show’s creator Joss Whedon.

Speaking about their get together, Joss said in a clip at the time: ‘This is like a high school reunion but much worse because they all still look really great, and you were hoping that some of them would puff out a bit, so you’d be the cool one.’

Earlier this month, the Buffy cast marked their 22nd birthday, with Sarah blowing all our minds by revealing how she was actually meant to play Cordelia.

Angel is available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Alex Beresford makes emotional return to live TV after cousin was stabbed to death and his uncle passed away

Grieving Alex Beresford made an emotional return to live TV after his cousin was stabbed to death.

Alex’s cousin Nathaniel Armstrong, 29, was killed in the early hours on Saturday 16 March, becoming the 26th murder in London this year.

The weather presenter appeared drained as he appeared on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain to discuss what can be done to tackle knife crime and update viewers on the investigation into Nathaniel’s death.

‘It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, we also buried our uncle yesterday,’ he said.

‘It’s been a lot of ups and downs. No one would have expected this especially after I spoke out. You couldn’t make it up.

‘It’s come as a big surprise it happened to Nathaniel, because he’s 29, he’s not in a gang, he went to a decent school and a decent university.

‘He was a big guy, six foot seven. Maybe on the outside some people would be intimidated by him, but for this to happen to him, everyone was shocked.

‘He wasn’t a fighter, he would be able to talk his way out of everything.’

Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on what can be done, he went on: ‘There are some that would be deterred by prison, but many of these boys – they’re prepared to give up their life.

‘Guns are not as easy to come by. You can walk into your kitchen and pick up a knife.

‘This person that has done this to my cousin, he’s also ruined his life. We need to fix this problem for both sides. Nobody wins, everybody loses.’

‘He wasn’t a fighter’: Alex Beresford paid tribute to his cousin Nathaniel Armstrong

Speaking about what police have told him about the case, Alex revealed: ‘At the moment, we don’t know a great deal…the person, we can’t find him at the moment. Nathaniel is not here to tell his side of the story.

‘We have all seen the CCTV where they are talking, as I said, Nathaniel was more of a talker. Obviously they disappear off camera and what happened happened.

‘As I understand it, it was a single stab wound that took his life.’

The death of Alex’s cousin came after the presenter went viral for his passionate intervention in a knife crime debate on Good Morning Britain earlier this month.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV

Game of Thrones fans think Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen will die, thanks to Peter Dinklage’s Instagram (Picture: HBO)

Game of Thrones fans are quick to hop on any speculation as we enter season eight, even if they’re going on a photo from Peter Dinklage behind-the-scenes at a football match.

The Tyrion Lannister actor posed alongside some of the key players still standing in Westeros but naturally the 49-year-old’s 3.6 million followers’ immediate attention went to the heroes missing…

They could have taken a toilet break, they might have just wanted to do anything other than watch the footie, but if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, the absence of Kit Harington, Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke can only mean one thing: Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister are brown bread.

A post shared by Peter Dinklage (@peterdinklage) on

Peter simply captioned the snap with a black flame – read into that what you will – but terrified fans have a lot of concerns.

‘Where is the king in the north?’ cried one Game of Thrones theorist, which was followed by: ‘So Cersei and Jon Snow both die in the first episode.’

A third leapt to a giant conclusion that is ‘everyone who dies next season’, which was echoed when someone else wrote: ‘Are these the only ones remaining alive at the end.’

‘Okay wtf is going on here? What does this mean?’ asked a particularly panicked Peter supporter.

Right now, we’re guessing it means not all of the cast were as bothered by the match, and honestly, same.

Thankfully, there is now less than one month until we’re reunited with the Game of Thrones gang – almost two years since we waved Jon and Daenerys goodbye to get stuck into their incestuous relationship.

We have a lot of thoughts about Jon and Dany’s unconventional romance, which you can read here.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic on April 14 while you can currently stream seasons one to seven on NOW TV.

Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson will explore body image and mental health in a brand new BBC Three documentary.

The 27-year-old singer, who’s dating Love Island star Chris Hughes, is set to look at how growing up in a social media-fueled age of selfies, body shaming and trolling is having a profound effect on young people’s mental health and will also share her own very personal experiences.

The news comes just days after co-performer Leigh-Anne Pinnock broke down in tears over her online abuse she’s faced during her time in the band.

‘This is a project really close to my heart, and I’m delighted to be working with the BBC on a documentary that will both challenge me personally and also highlight a hugely important issue affecting young people today,’ Jesy announced.

Revealing the upcoming  documentary to her 5.1million Instagram followers, she added: ‘One if four men and women suffer with mental health and it’s a subject that I think we don’t speak about enough.

‘I’m making this film because I really, really want to make a change and a difference to other people’s lives.’

This isn’t the first time Jesy has been vocal about her struggles, having opened up about her lack of confidence in the early days of Little Mix.

‘When I first started out, I struggled,’ she told ASOS magazine in December. ‘I never thought I would get over thinking people thought certain things about me.

‘I still get upset when I talk about it. I’ll never get those years back.’

Speaking about Jesy’s documentary, BBC Three Controller Fiona Campbell says she is ‘pleased’ the channel ‘can provide a platform for Jesy to tell her story.

‘As a young female in a successful girl band where intense scrutiny from the public is the norm, Jesy offers a unique perspective on the impact social media can have on an individual and their mental health,’ she added.

‘It promises to be an eye-opening watch, full of universal themes which will no doubt resonate with our audience.’

‘We’re delighted to be working with Jesy on what promises to be a very personal film,’ added the BBC’s Head of Commissioning.

‘We hope her encounters whilst making the documentary will be helpful both to her and millions of others around the country who are going through similar experiences.’

The documentary will premiere exclusively on BBC Three before it airs on BBC One.

The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs is all for Henry replacing Carl: ‘It’s super cool’

The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs was killed off in the last season after his character was bitten by a zombie.

But while the 19-year-old moves on to his flourishing music career and other acting projects, the AMC hit is quickly finding a replacement to step into Carl’s shoes.

Because, you know, he did actually have a lot of storyline left if the comics were anything to go by.

Yes, Carl was supposed to fall in love with newbie Lydia after the Alexandrians rescued her from The Whisperers.

But despite Rick Grimes’ son having a whole life ahead of him, directors of the series decided to change things up and gave his plot to actor Matt Lintz, who plays Henry in the post-apocalyptic saga.

Chatting to TooFab, Chandler opened up about Henry finally coming into his own, and revealed there is no bad blood between him and Matt.

He said Henry stepping into Carl’s role is ‘super cool’ (Picture: AMC)

He told the publication: ‘I know Matt personally, I’ve known him because his older sister played Sophia. I’m pretty sure his whole family was on the show at some point.’

Even Matt’s younger brother Macsen played the younger version of Henry.

The Carl star continued: ‘I’ve known all of them for a very long time. It’s super cool seeing someone I know step into the shoes that Carl, the path that Carl was supposed to take, it’s pretty cool.’

Henry has now been chosen as the character to fall in love with Lydia after he moved to the Hilltop as an apprentice blacksmith.

In the comics Carl fell in love with newbie Lydia (Picture: AMC)

Talking about the characters’ relationship, the 17-year-old told Trip Wire magazine: ‘I think meeting any kid is out of the ordinary for Henry.

‘His access to humanity has been so limited over the years, so he connects with Lydia. He’s out of his familiar surroundings and so is she.’

The star added: ‘Henry is definitely empathetic towards her. I can’t deny that there’s a sort of Romeo and Juliet thing between them. It’s young love.’

And while Lydia is settling into her new family, viewers are coming to terms with new group The Highway Men – who were welcomed into the Kingdom by Henry’s dad Ezekiel.

The Walking Dead boss Angela Kang told Entertainment Weekly: ‘They’ve got a giant obstacle that they’ve got to deal with, and they don’t know exactly what the script is like, or how much danger they pose.

‘There’s going to be some action and excitement that comes out of that.’

The Walking Dead continues on AMC Sundays and airs on Fox UK Mondays at 9pm. And is available to watch on NOW TV.

YouTube star KSI gloats to Piers Morgan about cashing in on Logan Paul boxing match: ‘I’m rich as hell’

KSI admitted that he had a massive payday thanks to his boxing match with fellow YouTube star Logan Paul.

Their match, which took place at Manchester Arena last year, was declared a draw.

Fans had to pay £7.50 to watch it on YouTube with the average ticket to sit in the 21,000-strong arena said to cost around £100.

He was asked straight up by Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain about his earnings for the bout.

After playing it coy, the YouTube star said: ‘[I made] enough. Why do you keep asking me?

‘I’ve made a good amount. That’s all I’m going to say.’

Challenged on charging fans to tune in, he added: ‘Yeah, normal boxers do that as well.

‘I’m extremely rich, is that what you want Piers? I’m rich as hell.’

Speaking about their draw, he said: ‘I’d say he had the first two rounds but the rest I had completely, all over him.

‘He was just grabbing hold of me the whole time.’

KSI also teased that there would be a rematch at a future date in the US.

The internet star’s manager previously told Metro.co.uk about the rumoured earnings: ‘Accounting for the event cost and revenue won’t be known for a while.’

KSI, real name Olajide ‘JJ’ Olatunji, and Logan have already started stoking interest in a second match by reigniting their feud online.

KSI fired off a scathing tweet earlier this month aimed at his rival, which said: ‘The people don’t care about you anymore.

‘You’re washed up. A has been. You’re the suicide forest boy, and that’s all you’ll ever be. Step aside.’

Logan hit back: ‘Aren’t you on your fifth abortion g? crazy theory but: life is about more than views… sometimes it’s about… ya know… life ?’

Their spat ended with KSI tweeting Logan’s brother Jake to say: ‘Anyway, @jakepaul you want the main event? You got it. Lets see how “trash” I really am…’

The American vlogger has previously claimed that he didn’t make a penny from the match.

He told talkSPORT last September: ‘Between all of the expenses, I’m not a 100 per cent sure that I came out positive on this event. That means I’m not sure if I made money on the event.’

However he admitted: ‘I mean it’s obviously a high amount, but it’s nowhere near £40m.’

Let round two commence.

Victoria writer Daisy Goodwin teases major character death in series 4: ‘The fallout is fantastic’

Daisy Goodwin has teased a major character death in series four of Victoria (Picture: ITV/REX)

Victoria writer Daisy Goodwin has teased series four will be ‘an absolute humdinger’.

Daisy is hard at work writing the next lot of episodes with series three starting in just a few days.

She hinted that there might be a character death next series and added that viewers can look up what’s coming next for Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Albert (Tom Hughes) online.

Speaking at a press screening, Daisy said: ‘[Series four] is going to be an absolute humdinger.

‘Somebody might die in it. So that is a great challenge but it’s such an amazing story and the fallout is fantastic.

‘You can Wikipedia it. Someone dies and someone new comes on the scene. I’m really enjoying it. I’m really into it.’

Daisy previously revealed that she already has Prince Albert’s death scene planned out.

Daisy knows how the show will say goodbye to the character, adding that there will be a lot more focus on his actions leading up to his passing.

Daisy has an idea of how Prince Albert’s death will play out (Picture: ITV)

She said: ‘I might have an idea. I might have.

‘Obviously…I don’t really think of it like that. I’m more interested in what he does – I mean the the run up to his death is fascinating to me. And tragic.

‘He will have to die at some point as much as I would like to keep him alive forever. At some point he will have to leave us.’

However, she revealed she won’t shy away from Victoria’s close relationship with John Brown, her personal attendant.

She went on: ‘It’s a gift for a dramatist, I mean Albert’s death and then Victoria’s reaction to that, and her coming back to life as it were with John Brown, I think will be fabulous.

‘Again, it’s been written about but never by a woman. And you’ve got to remember that when Albert dies Victoria is only 42.

‘You think of her as being ancient but she’s only 42. So the idea that she might still have needs, is something that…I’m not ready to write her off as an old widow at 42.’

Victoria returns 24 March at 9pm on ITV

The Bachelor UK finale - Alex Marks and Alicia (Picture: Channel 5)
What is going on with Alicia and Alex from The Bachelor UK? (Picture: Channel 5)
Provider: Channel 5

The Bachelor UK fans have been desperate to know what is going on with Alex Marks and Alicia Oates since last week’s finale – because obviously.

We invested 10 days into Alex’s journey as he whittled 17 ladies down to just one, eventually declaring his love for Essex-born wonder woman, Alicia.

But what happened after the cameras stopped rolling? The couple went radio silent and one viewer claimed Alicia called The Bachelor a ‘t***’ once the finale had aired. It didn’t look good.

Thankfully, they appear to be pretty smitten as Alex swooned over Alicia while she started her first Instagram Live, but oddly said they can’t confirm their relationship status.

Speaking to his own 33,000 followers in a series of stories, the personal trainer grinned: ‘She’s being hounded with people asking if we’re still together and obviously I’ve been sent out of the room not to give the game away.

‘I’m earwigging on her convo with what I think is 600-700 people asking if we’re still together.’

Give the game away? JUST TELL US.

Although, what was pretty funny, Alex revealed that the pie, which Alicia whipped up the night they met and happily tucked into during a romantic night by the pool, was actually whipped up by a nearby bakery.

Alex refused to spill even a drop of gossip on Instagram (Picture: Instagram)

‘I was blown away for weeks,’ the lothario admitted. ‘Later on she told me she didn’t have time to cook it, production just bought her one. I felt lied to!’

On Saturday, two days after The Bachelor ended, Alicia finally broke her silence on social media – but didn’t give a lot away.

Alongside a video of the moment the pair first laid their eyes on each other, she wrote: ‘A very happy ending to what was the most incredibly challenging and emotional journey for us both.

‘We want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved. The crew in SA & Antigua, production & casting @ricochetcasting Warner Brothers @wbitvp @channel5_tv & of course @wrighty_ and most of all I would like to thank everyone who watched the show.

‘Your support has meant so much to me and I will always treasure each and every message I received.’

And then Alex suspiciously shared exactly the same message. Watch this space…

The Bachelor UK is available to stream on My5.

The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco posed with a member of the Life In Pieces cast, but what does it mean?

Besides sharing a number of behind-the-scenes pictures on her own co-stars on Instagram, the 33-year-old actress’ latest post is a snap with Angelique Cabral, who plays Colleen Brandon Ortega in the CBS show.

Also in the backstage pic are Kaley’s husband Tank Cook, True Blood’s Ashley Jones, make-up artist to the rich and famous, Jamie Greenberg and her husband Joshua Greenberg.

Kaley captioned the photo: ‘Pwetty fwends and a few adorable hubbies in the background.’

But does Kaley’s friendship with Angelique mean there’s some scope for her to make an appearance in Life In Pieces when it returns for its fourth season next month?

The comedy centres around a huge family, consisting of three generations, and their life in Los Angeles, with each episode told as four short stories – one of each branch of the Short family.

So far there have been 18 recurring guest stars, ranging from Jordan Peele, to Martin Starr and Nick Offerman.

Last year it was confirmed that The Kissing Booth’s Joey King will be making her debut as a recurring character in the upcoming series, joining her real-life sister Hunter, who plays Clementine in the show.

Joey will take on the role of Morgan, a 17-year-old pregnant girl who plans on giving her baby to adoptive parents Colleen (Angelique Cabral) and Matt (Thomas Sadoski).

With The Big Bang Theory ending in just a few weeks time, we’re hoping to see Kaley pop up in the sister sitcom, on top of her voiceover and TV movie thriller project The Flight Attendant.

The Big Bang Theory continues on CBS in the US.

Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs says Andrew Lincoln ‘deserves more recognition’ (Picture: AMC)

The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has thrown his support behind his fellow co-star Andrew Lincoln, claiming he deserves ‘way more recognition.’

When chatting about the amount of awards the show has received, the 19-year-old revealed how shocked he was to see that Andrew had barely won any.

Despite being nominated for 20 awards for his role as Rick Grimes, the 45-year-old has only ever been presented three – including the People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Anti-Hero in 2014, and the Satellite Award for Best Television Ensemble in 2012.

The Carl star opened up about his views on this, and told Too Fab: ‘I had an audition with this name actor and I was looking through [Wikipedia] just to get more intimidated by the audition and I was like, ‘Oh my god, he has all these awards,’ and was like, wait a second, Andy doesn’t…

He was shocked Andrew had barely won any awards for Rick Grimes (Picture: Getty Images)

‘I went to look on his IMDB and it’s like nothing.’

The Walking Dead received a Golden Globe back in 2011 for Best Television Series – Drama, but Chandler believes Andrew should have been singled out for his portrayal of the much loved sheriff.

He continued: ‘Andy was on the same level, if not, definitely had way better stuff than the other actor. I honestly, I have no idea why Walking Dead was always shunned.

‘It always won the visual effects awards, which well deserved, they do an incredible job. But I feel like, especially Andy, deserved way more recognition than he got.’

Earlier this month, the rising DJ issued the same sentiment when addressing his fans on Twitter.

He told his 1.6million followers: ‘The fact that Andy (Rick) never even got as much as a nomination for an emmy or a golden globe shows you how flawed the academy is in this industry.

‘Same goes for the rest of the leading actors on TWD. so much groundbreaking work to not get recognised for whatever reason.’

The young actor continued: ‘Just to clarify, i’m not taking away from people who have been nominated for these awards – the majority of them are well deserved.

‘Just really unfortunate that these incredibly hard-working actors can’t get the recognition they deserve for working at a cultural-phenomenon level.’

The Walking Dead continues on AMC Sundays and airs on Fox UK Mondays at 9pm. And is available to watch on NOW TV.

Line Of Duty season five episode one cast shot
It’s nearly time to head back to Line Of Duty (Picture: BBC)

It’s been nearly two years since Line Of Duty was last on our screens – but the long wait for a new series is almost over.

Yes, Line Of Duty season five will be with us very soon – with some new faces in the cast, a new plot to get tied up in knots over and undoubtedly a few shocking twists along the way.

The trailer has us all excited – but just what can we expect from the series itself?

Here’s what you need to know.

When does Line of Duty start on BBC One?

The new series is due to kick off on BBC One on Sunday 31 March at 9pm.

The BBC confirmed the start date earlier in the week together with a cryptic new poster which featured stars Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Vicky McClure handcuffed together.

Line Of Duty season 5
The series will focus on an organised crime group (Picture: BBC)

It came complete with the tagline ‘Crime needs an inside man.’

What’s the plot of Line of Duty season five?

According to the BBC, the plot will revolve around the aforementioned crime group, who have links with corrupt police officers – with the trailer hinted at a group of balaclava-clad criminals targeting police officers.

It’s a change of pace for the show, which in the past has focused on corrupt individuals – but this time will be turning its attentions to an organised crime group.

Showrunner Jed Mercurio has also hinted at things taking a more personal turn.

Adrian Dunbar as Ted Hastings in Line Of Duty
Expect to see some familiar faces including the return of Adrian Dunbar (Picture: BBC)

‘I want to look at the personal lives of all the regulars in series five,’ he said after series four.

‘They’ve taken a backseat in this series to Roz Huntley (Newton), so it would be good to explore that side of things a bit more. The regulars are definitely up for doing more.’

Who is in the cast this time?

Well main trio McClure, Compston and Dunbar are all back as DS Kate Fleming, DS Steve Arnott and Superintendent Ted Hastings are all back.

‘Thanks to such a fantastic response from the Line Of Duty audience, it feels extra special to be back filming series five,’ McClure explained. ‘I absolutely love working with Martin and Adrian, and Jed has without a doubt stepped it all up a gear this series. His writing just gets better and better. We have lots of great new cast members and I’m over the moon Stephen is on board, he’s a good friend and one of the finest actors. I’m already excited for the twists and turns to hit the screens.’

Stephen Graham and Rochenda Sandall in Line Of Duty season 5
Stephen Graham is a newcomer to the cast along with Rochenda Sandall (Picture: BBC)

Supporting cast members Maya Sondhi, Polly Walker, Aiysha Hart, Andrea Irving and Tony Pitts will be back also – while the big new addition to the cast is actor Stephen Graham.

The This Is England star will play ‘Balaclava Man’ John Corbett in the series, accompanied by fellow cast newcomer Rochenda Sandall (Girlfriends) as Lisa McQueen.

What have the cast said about the series?

With the show notorious for delivering twists and edge of the seat moments, the cast members have admitted that even they’re never sure what’s going to happen – or if they’ll even survive to the end of the series.

‘People often think we must know in advance – from Jed or our agents – how many episodes we’ve been booked for in the next series,’ Dunbar explained.

‘But you don’t really know. You open the first script not knowing if it’s going to be “Jason Watkins Time.” ‘And, I’ll tell you, the more you have to do in early episodes, the more fearful you are that it’s building up to you going out with a bang.

‘We’re all in it together until Jed pulls the trigger.’

When was the series filmed?

Filming on the new series kicked off in August, with cast members teasing the action on set.

Compston posted the script’s cover page on Instagram, telling his followers: ‘Even better on the second read. Mr Mercurio has done it again. Gonna be some ride can’t wait to pull the waistcoat on again.’

Is there a trailer for the new series?

There certainly is, and you can watch the clip below.

Now Fireman Sam has been accused of sexism too as Piers Morgan wades in after Peppa Pig row

Fireman Sam has been accused by firefighters of using ‘outdated language’ as the ‘sexism’ row around the kids’ TV show continues.

The programme about ‘hero next door’ Fireman Sam has been making headlines in the wake of a campaign claiming it puts women off joining the fire service.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan waded into the row, as he has been all week, tweeting that any women who took issue with Fireman Sam ‘probably don’t have what it takes to fight fires’.

Instead of letting the outspoken host scream into the void, the London Fire Brigade shot back on Twitter, highlighting a young girl who felt she couldn’t become a firefighter because ‘children’s TV continues to use outdated language’.

They added: ‘If you respect our work, get our name right’.

When Piers was told that he ‘was not well placed to decide who’s “got what it takes”‘, Piers fired back: ‘Only 7% of firefighters are women. So your gender-war recruitment strategy hasn’t worked. Maybe go back to celebrating ‘firewomen’ and calling them that…’

Female senior fire officer Alex Johnson, who is heading a social media campaign to get women to become firefighters, has said: ‘Children’s shows like Fireman Sam don’t help to break down stereotypes either. Most of the job is nothing like it is portrayed. We do community and youth engagement work, where we need to be seen to be representative of the population.

The show includes a female firefighter called Penny (Picture: Mattel)

‘Women and people from different ethnic backgrounds are simply not considering being a firefighter because they are not seeing themselves represented.’

A spokeswoman from Mattel, which represents the Fireman Sam brand, said: ‘Fireman Sam is a much loved and iconic brand and we are constantly evolving to make sure that we stay true to the show’s heritage, as well as representing the world that children see around them today.

‘The team are always referred to throughout the show as firefighters except Sam, whose title has not evolved in his role as the show’s namesake. We recognise the need to stay relevant and we continue to evaluate the show to ensure Sam remains an aspirational hero for generations of pre-schoolers.’

It comes after kids’ cartoon Peppa Pig was called out for including the word ‘fireman’ in one of their old episodes.

Simon Thomas and Steve Bland’s children coping with their mums’ death is heartbreaking

Steve Bland and Simon Thomas discussed how their kids are coming to terms with their mothers deaths on Wednesday’s This Morning.

Simon lost his wife Gemma in 2017 to a rare and aggressive form of cancer just days after she was diagnosed, leaving behind eight-year-old son Ethan, meanwhile Steve lost his wife Rachael after a two-year battle with cancer, leaving behind three-year-old son Freddie.

Joining This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Steve explained that his son doesn’t quite understand where his mum is, saying: ‘He asks quite often where he is physically. He doesn’t really understand it.’

However, Steve said that explaining what death is easier with a younger child, adding: ‘It’s easier to explain to a three-year-old. You can explain things reasonably simply.’

Rachael managed to publish a book before she passed away, titled For Freddie: A Mother’s Final Gift To Her Son, which is dedicated to her young boy.

‘It was just amazing that she was able to do that,’ commented Steve.

Simon, who made his first appearance with new girlfriend Derrina Jebb last week, explained how his son’s memories of his mum are starting to fade.

Viewers were heartbroken by the duo’s appearance (Picture: Twitter)

‘That is so hard to hear,’ he said. ‘I can’t have a book like this, but I have videos, pictures, memories I can write down.’

Naturally, viewers were heartbroken to hear the men speak about their loss and how it’s been effecting their families, with one writing: ‘In floods of tears watching this, holding my four-year-old tight. Simon and Steve are so brave.’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘My heart hurts watching.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.

Emily Atack gets rinsed for missing out on Celebrity Juice job to Paddy McGuinness

Celebrity Juice’s Keith Lemon wasted no time in rinsing Emily Atack for losing out on the team captain job to Paddy McGuinness in the show’s upcoming episode.

The funnyman, real name Leigh Francis, poked fun at the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star for being overlooked as Fearne Cotton’s replacement, by setting up Paddy’s buzzer to say ‘Emily Atack’s team’ every time he pushed it.

‘That’s before we decided to go with you [Paddy],’ Keith laughed.

Emily, who joined Holly Willoughby’s team for the evening, took the joke on the chin, laughing: ‘I was wondering when that little elephant in the room was going to crop up.’

Good thing Anne Hegerty wasn’t there, otherwise she might have torn into Keith.

Fearne stepped down for the show last year after 10 years, opening up the search for her replacement.

During the quest for a new team captain, Emily expressed her interest, telling This Morning hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that it’s her ‘dream job,’ however her dreams were dashed when Paddy was revealed to be taking over the Radio DJ’s role last month.

But Emily gracefully accepted the snub and said she’s more than happy to make an appearance on the comedy panel, telling Daily Star Sunday: ‘I’d love to be part of the show, but nothing was discussed.’

She joined Take That’s Howard Donald, John Barrowman, and TV presenter and original Essex boy Mark Wright for the first episode of the brand new series.

But Emily was never in line for Fearne’s spot with Keith explaining that Paddy was always going to have the job.

‘Me and Holly met up to discuss who would take over and we just agreed immediately that it had to be Paddy,’ he said.

‘She’s really good mates with him and while she’s my TV sister, Paddy’s my TV brother. I think it’s great because if we’d have got another girl there would have been too many comparisons with Fearne.’

He also spilled that it was easy to get Paddy onto the show, saying: ‘When I asked him at the TV Choice Awards last year I said, “do you fancy coming and doing Juice with us?” and he was like, “yeah, cool!”, and that was it.

‘We just had to work out schedules to see if it was possible because he’s also doing Top Gear. Once he knew he could, that was it.’

Stranger Things returns with brand new trailer for season 3 and it looks good

One summer is about to change everything as Stranger Things returns.

The Netflix show dropped a bizarre new trailer with the young cast back in action as the season three release date gets nearer.

The extended clip, which starts with a surprise party for Dustin, hints at our favourite gang of kids growing up and drifting apart as Mike can be heard saying: ‘We’re not kids anymore.

‘I mean what did you think? That we’re just gonna sit in my basement all day and play games for the rest of our lives?’

As if that wasn’t hard enough, they are going to have to battle evil once more as a truly terrifying creature rears its ugly head once again.

With the action in Hawkins moving to a sweltering summer in 1985, it’s a whole new world for the Stranger Things gang.

The seriously 80s trailer takes the action to a brand new pool, a shopping mall and a huge funfair that coincides with an Independence Day celebration.

And Eleven gets one of her nosebleeds again, so we’re expecting some pretty wild scenes to go down.

Elsewhere the adults are dealing with some emotional stuff of their own as Chief Hopper tells Joyce: ‘It’s important to me that you feel safe. I want you to feel like this can still be your home.’

The hit show is set to introduce new additions to the cast for the next outing, including Cary Elwes as ‘handsome, slick, and sleazy’ Mayor Kline, and Jake Busey who plays a journalist with ‘questionable morals and a sick sense of humour’.

Stranger Things returns to Netflix on 4 July

Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington struggled to get romantic with his co-star Emilia Clarke.

Fans saw Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen become lovers in season seven with their newfound relationship set to continuing into the final season.

The actors have become close friends through making the show which made acting out Jon and Dany’s romance tricky.

‘The first scene we had together we both just started laughing,’ Emilia, who plays Daenerys, told Variety.

‘Why are you looking at me this strange way and saying these strange lines? You’re my friend?’

Adding that Kit used to pretend to hurl during filming, she said: ‘Oh my God, mate. You’re not making this any easier!’

Season eight will see the couple learn the truth about Jon’s parents, which is going to put a spanner in the works for their relationship.

Jon is the son of Lyanna Stark and Daenerys’ brother Rhaegar, making him her nephew and ahead of her in line to the Iron Throne.

Jon and Dany will learn the truth of his birth in the final season (Picture: HBO)

Explaining how the bombshell could complicate things a bit, Kit told TV Insider: ‘Jon is someone who plays by the book. He cannot lie. Finding out about Dany would be very hard for him.’

Emilia added: ‘Daenerys’ life long dream has been to avenge her family and claim her rightful seat on the Iron Throne.

‘She truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep.’

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss recently spoke about how they would struggle to get back to normal life after being immersed in Westeros for so many years.

‘It’s the best job I’ve ever had or ever likely will have’ Benioff told Entertainment Weekly.

He added: ‘You have all these characters you love and you can come up with ideas for them, and a few months later these incredible actors will be saying those things. That’s such a rare gift.’

Weiss weighed in: ‘If 10 years ago somebody had given me a chance to write a ticket, I wouldn’t have been crazy enough to write a ticket to something this great.’

Game Of Thrones returns 14 April on Sky Atlantic and HBO, and is available to watch on NOW TV.

Stranger Things season 3 trailer breakdown: New monster revealed with hints at major death?

$
0
0

Netflix’s Stranger Things has just dropped a brand new trailer for the hotly-anticipated season three and it looks epic.

After almost two years off-screen, the Hawkins gang are back with brand new hangouts, new problems and of course, new monsters, but there’s a change going on.

Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Max (Sadie Sink), Will (Noah Schnapp) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) are growing up and this is their Teenage Wasteland.

Here’s what we can speculate from the latest footage.

The kids are growing up

Just like the trailer’s backing track suggests, the kids have now entered their angsty teenage years and they’re drifting apart.

‘We’re not kids anymore,’ Will announces. ‘I mean, what did you think? We’re just gonna sit in my basement all day? Play games for the rest of our lives?’

Yep, Gaten really wasn’t kidding when he said season three would be ‘darker,’ but is this the beginning of the end?

There’s a pool now

Bad boy Billy (Dacre Montgomery) is manning the waters as the pool’s very own lifeguard.

It looks like he’s gonna be destined for his very own romance as well as he eyes up a local resident.

Billy’s got a summer job as the pool’s lifeguard (Picture: Netflix)

Hopper and Joyce romance?

Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) look set for an on/off rollercoaster romance this season, with a shot of the detective being stood up at a restaurant.

Meanwhile, in the next shot Joyce is seen home alone looking very miserable.

It seems as though Hopper is going his best to look out for the nervous mum, as he’s heard saying: ‘It’s important to me that you kids feel safe. I want you to feel like this can still be your home.’

Hopper and Joyce look hot and cold this season (Picture: Netflix)

Eleven and Max bonding

The two girls look like they’ve finally put aside their differences for season four and we’re here for it.

Eleven and Max were super frosty with each other last series, but they’ve transformed their coldness into ice cream (probably from Steve’s parlour Scoops Ahoy).

Eleven and Max are friends now (Picture: Netflix)

New journalist villain?

The trailer has given us a look at new character Bruce, played by Jake Busey and he looks creepy AF.

Jake, who was confirmed to have been cast in the franchise last year, will play a journalist for the The Hawkins Post, with questionable morals and a sick sense of humor.

Is this the new villain? (Picture: Netflix)

Another glimpse of the Starcourt Mall

We got our first look at the Starcourt Mall last year and now it looks as though it’s going to be the setting for an epic showdown.

The Hawkins gang are seen looking exhausted on the ground of the new complex, with Eleven’s nose dripping with blood.

Spoiler pics that emerged over the summer teased that the Mind Flayer launch its attack at the mall.

How did the new monster get here and has he bitten Billy?

The trailer introduced a brand new monster and it looks like a supersized damogorgon, but is it Billy?

In one shot of the trailer, Billy’s seen in the shower with a nasty bite that looks strikingly similar to Will’s infection in season one.

Fans are convinced that the villain gets attacked in the Upside Down and has contracted a deadly virus which turns him into the terrifying beast.

Actor Dacre has previously hinted that he might not be returning to the show after season three, telling GQ last year: ‘You can’t overcommit.

‘You’re not going to go around and tell every girl “I love you,” so you cant go around treating every job the same either.’

Does this mean that the crew slay the monster aka Billy?

New Stranger Things trailer lands
The new monster looks terrifying (Picture: Netflix)
Is this the lead up to a big car crash? (Picture: Netflix)

Who’s involved in the car crash?

In a blink or you’ll miss it moment it looks like there’s going to be a car crash as someone speeds over to what looks like a diner.

Could this be the end of one of our favourite characters, or is this a red-herring?

Stranger Things returns 4 July on Netflix.
