Paddy McGuinness seems to have the magic touch when it comes to Saturday night TV, which bodes well for his new venture, Catchpoint.
Unlike many of the head-scratch-inducing quizzed on television at the moment, however, this one will be a test of physical as well as mental strength.
The challenges are intricate, and the stress levels for contestants are likely to be high. Here’s what to expect and when to watch.
How does Catchpoint work?
There’s one simple rule that all contestants much adhere to – Don’t drop the ball.
Contestants – in pairs – will be asked a question that is shown on a giant LED wall.
(Picture: BBC/12Yard/Graeme Hunter)
Answers are written on different ‘catch zones’ with ceiling trap doors above, and they must stand in the area of the one they think is correct. If they get the question right, a ball will be dropped from the trap doors.
They must work to make sure that they catch this ball before it hits the ground each round. Otherwise, they’ll lose the prize.
It’s a game of quick reactions and plenty of physicality, which is likely to offer up some much-needed slapstick comedy to your weekend.
How to watch Catchpoint
Catchpoint starts Saturday 23 March 6.50pm on BBC One.
There are six episodes in total, each airing on a Saturday night and lasting half an hour.
You can also catch Catchpoint (heh) on BBC iPlayer afterwards.
Nick claims it was the campmates vs bosses (Picture: ITV)Nick Knowles has claimed I’m A Celebrity bosses attempted to wind up campmates by letting their beds get wet and rationing food portions, after the 2018 contestants banded together to remain friends.
‘We decided early on it would be really nice to genuinely try to all get on and not fall out,’ he revealed.
‘The producers were furious with us – honestly they really were. It was us versus the production company. They made it harder and harder.
‘For example on the second day, we decided as you can’t talk in camp as there’s 70 cameras there. When the show started we huddled in a place that was hidden by the cameras and decided it was us versus them and if we fall out, they win.
‘And we decided Octopus was our safe word so if anyone was getting really angry, what you do is go “octopus” and it makes you think, “I’m making myself look a bit of an idiot so I better stop”. So we never fell out and no one got angry.’
Nick believes show bosses hated him (Picture: ITV)
Speaking at the Ideal Home Show on Saturday to a live audience, Nick also alleged that the production team would purposely fail to keep their beds covered so that they became wet when it rained, and rationed the food portions, all in order to get the camp mates angry.
‘The food has no flavour – there’s no salt and pepper and it’s really difficult to swallow… worse than chewing cardboard. After a few days you’re starting to get used to it. Then they send you off on the Dingo Dollar challenge and you come back with a little square of chocolate,’ he continued.
Nick with John and Harry (Picture: Rex)
‘I said to the guys, “if you eat the chocolate it’s going to wake up your taste buds and it’s going to be really difficult to eat the food again tomorrow”. Some like Emily [Atack] didn’t mind as she’ll eat or drink anything she can get her hands on.
‘Me and James and a few others decided we wouldn’t eat them and the production team were getting more and more angry with us. They did things like…reducing the amount of food we had when we won the stars. It was inedible.
‘They left the canopy open so all our beds got wet and we had to sleep on wet bedding.
‘Anything to try and wind us up. And the more we stuck together the more it really got on their nerves. They hated me by the end of it!’
Emily and John also got on well (Picture: ITV)
Nick appeared on the 2018 show with the likes of Emily, John Barrowman, Noel Edmonds and winner Harry Redknapp.
It was the first ever series where Declan Donnelly hosted a TV show without Ant McPartlin; Holly Willoughby stepped in to cover after Ant made the difficult decision to focus on his recovery from addiction.

Geri was impressed with Ben’s performance (Picture: BBC)
Geri Horner made a rare gesture of support by standing up for All Together now singer Ben, as he received a huge score of 86 out of 100.
The contestant stunned fans as well as the panel of judges with a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s Master Blaster (Jammin), to achieve the highest score of the night so far.
Not too shabby.
‘You can sing amazingly,’ the former Spice Girl told him (Picture: BBC)
‘You can sing amazingly,’ the former Spice Girl told him, after she stood and applauded him, a move that the Spice Girl rarely makes.
‘You said the exact right thing, I just wanted to sing with you, and you did that. That’s what this show is about.’
Fans shared the love on social media (Picture: Twitter)
Speaking to the judges afterwards, the performer looked in disbelief at his high score.
He admitted he was nervous but pointed out afterwards: ‘It was more like I was singing with them as opposed to singing at them.’
Ben usually works as a theatre usher, revealing that watching the performers ‘motivates me to be on the stage rather than selling the ice creams.’
He gave it his all (Picture: BBC)
The BBC talent show sees contestants perform in front of a panel of 100 judges. If the judge chooses to stand up, they can join in with the song, and they count towards the singer’s score.
Geri’s previously pointed out that she’s all for honesty on the show.
‘I do feel it’s about being honest, caring to be honest – that’s more loving than saying something nice just so they like me back,’ Geri began.
‘I think that I’m going to say something that might sound firm, but fair. That’s more important than whether someone likes me back. And they might think that I’m not such a big star after that,’ she added.
‘I just think as a respect to the show and to all the other contestants, I don’t think it’s fair if I just say nice things just so people like me.’

Desparate Housewives star Teri Hatcher made a surprise appearance on All Round To Mrs Brown’s, but made a bit of a blunder when she referred to Ireland as part of the UK.
Bit awks.
Viewers were surprised to say the least when the 54-year-old rocked up on the show.
However, things immediately got a bit awkward when she said she loves the UK – when the show’s meant to be set in Ireland.
Teri made a surprise appearance on the show (Picture: BBC)
‘We’re in Ireland!’ Agnes, played by Brendan O’Carroll, hastily pointed out.
‘It’s my first time to Ireland,’ Teri quickly clarified, before Mrs Brown shadily quipped: ‘Evidently.’
Sitting down at the kitchen table, the pair also chatted about Teri’s history of being on the swim team at school, where she was unfortunately nicknamed ‘Hairy Teri.’
‘Be nice!’ she urged Mrs Brown after spilling her secrets, pointing out that she was being ‘vulnerable.’
Viewers were obsessed with the pairing, with some taking to Twitter to point out how bizarre it was.
‘Why is Teri Hatcher speaking to Mrs Brown? WHAT THE F*** IS HAPPENING?’ one confused fan asked.
‘Teri – “I love the UK.” Mrs Brown – “WE’RE IN IRELAND,”’ another mock tweeted.
‘Anyone else think Teri Hatcher was told she was going on a popular talk show in the UK hosted by an Irish comedian and presumed it was Graham Norton not Mrs Brown’s Boys?’ one more viewer asked.
‘I don’t know how she does it,’ admitted Brendan. ‘I think the BBC ought to be ashamed of themselves, somebody should tell them.’
‘She gets away with things he’d [Brendan] never get away with,’ commented his wife Jennifer Gibney.
Revealing his thoughts, Brendan said: ‘I think it’s a combination that she’s not just a woman, but an elderly woman and it seems to disarm people.’

BBC2’s Race Across The World has so far seen best pals and business partners Josh and Felix survive the pressure.
Yet, cracks are beginning to show in their relationship when they encounter trouble at the Chinese border.
The show, which sees the final four teams racing across the world, has already shown the competitors clock up more than 5000 miles during their journeys.
However, things get tense in the upcoming episode, in which the teams have to leave Tashkent in Uzbekistan to reach Huangyao in southern China.
With the border closing at 6pm, it doesn’t leave much time for them to make it across.
Felix isn’t happy (Picture: BBC)
While the first team, father and son duo Darron and Alex, make it across the border just fine, Josh and Felix end up making a run for it, only to find out it’s closed.
Felix clearly gets agitated, declaring: ‘Well we’re f***ed mate, looks like we’re staying here then.’
With Josh attempting to calm him down, he adds: ‘We don’t know where were going, we don’t know anything and we also don’t have enough money, we’ve got 2000 tenge (£4).’
Meanwhile, Darron and Alex clear the border with no problems (Picture: BBC)
As Felix walks off, Josh explains: ‘We’re not able to cross the border, so we have to look for a hotel – very frustrating.’
Despite clearing the border with little trouble, Darron and Alex start to run out of cash pretty quickly, deciding to boost their funds by working at a flower market.
Tony and Elaine suffer similar issues as they opt for an uncomfortable trip on slow trains through China – definitely not luxury travel.
Meanwhile, Natalie and Shameema splash the cash on bullet trains, but make sure to stop off in a ski-resort to allow Natalie to do something that, as a child with sickle-cell anaemia, she was never able to do.
Race Across the World continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC Two.

Katy Keene (Lucy Hale) was proposed to by K.O Kelly (Zane Holtz) in scenes shot on Saturday (Picture: SteveSands/NewYorkNewswire/MEGA)
Filming for Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene is well and truly underway, with new on-set pictures showing Lucy Hale’s title character being proposed to by Zane Holtz’s KO Kelly.
Photos have emerged from scenes shot on Saturday of KO down on one knee and popping the question to Katy on the sidewalk as they take a late-night stroll around the New York City.
Katy, who was all dressed up in a red dress with matching heels and fur coat, is seen gasping with surprise over the move, surrounded by onlookers watching the grand romantic gesture.
Whether or not Katy accepts the proposal remains to be seen, but judging from the look on one spectator’s face it goes drama free.

CW ordered a pilot episode of a potential series for the character back in January, and it’s Riverdale’s second by-product following the release of Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina last year.
Last month it was confirmed that Ashleigh Murray would be leaving Riverdale to star in the new spin-off, playing an older version of her character Josie McCoy.
Katy first appeared in print in Wilbur Comics back in 1945, later appearing in anthology comics alongside Archie, Betty, Jughead and Veronica, before she got her own standalone in 1949.
Katy Keene is expected to arrive later this year or early 2020.

Stephen Merchant is playing serial killer Stephen Port in new BBC drama The Barking Murders (Picture: PA)
The first picture of Stephen Merchant as serial killer Stephen Port for new BBC drama The Barking Murders has been unveiled.
The 44-year-old actor has completely transformed into the ‘Grindr killer’ for the role and was photographed staring chillingly out his window dressed in a plaid shirt, with sunglasses resting on his chest and his hair combed forward.
‘This is a story that can’t be ignored – how four young lives were lost and their families’ brave attempt to uncover what happened,’ Stephen said upon joining the line-up.
‘This factual drama will shed light on their story, so it’s a privilege to be a part of telling it with the brilliant combination of Jeff Pope, Neil McKay and the BBC.’

Stephen joins a star-studded cast for the three-part factual drama, including Sheridan Smith, Jaime Winstone and Rufus Jones.
Sheridan will play Sarah Sak, the mother of Port’s first victim Anthony Walgate, whose first pictures emerged earlier this month, with Jaime taking on victim Jack Taylor’s sister Donna.
The drama has been crafted by Jeff Pope and Neil McKay, who were responsible for The Moorside and Appropriate Adult.

‘Neil McKay and I are delighted to be working with Sheridan Smith again, who brings such honesty and passion to every character she plays,’ Jeff revealed.
‘Stephen Merchant didn’t hesitate when we asked him to play serial killer Stephen Port, and we are so grateful that he has agreed to take on such a difficult and challenging role.’
Neil added: ‘Four young men with their entire future ahead of them lost their lives in a brutal and tragic way.
Port is a convicted serial rapist and serial killer (Picture: PA)
‘This is a story not only of the consequences of that loss but also of the extraordinary courage and resilience shown by those who loved them as they sought truth and justice. It is a privilege to be able to tell it.’
Port attacked four men during 2014 and 2015, using dating app Grindr to lure his victims to their deaths.
During that time, he gave Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth and Jack Taylor date-rape drug GHB, before raping and murdering them. He was sentenced to life in prison in November 2016.
The series will focus on the families of Port’s victims, and how they dealt with the news.
The Barking Murders will begin filming in spring 2019 with a release date yet to be announced.

Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis both died after appearing on Love Island UK (Picture: ITV/WENN)
It’s been claimed 38 celebrities around the world are suspected to have died by suicide following links to reality TV shows.
The alarming figures come after Love Island star Mike Thalassitis took his own life last week, his body found in a North London woodland area.
The Sun On Sunday this week conducted a report into the deaths of those linked to reality shows and discovered the figure, calculated using celebrities from around the world, including Australia the US and Asia.
Big Brother psychologist Emma Kenny declared: ‘These figures are horrendous. I have seen people broken after reality TV.’

While a source claimed to the publication people with histories of mental health issues are allowed on: ‘People are going on these shows who aren’t strong enough to cope. They come out to millions of social media followers, trolls, hangers-on. Some are national hate figures.
‘For a young person with a mental health condition, it’s a lethal combination.’
Stars mentioned in the article included Hell’s Kitchen star Rachel Brown, 41, who in 2007 reportedly died by suicide in the US.
Also included was Paula Godspeed, 30, who rose to fame on American Idol. She was found dead in her car in November 2008 from a suspected drug overdose. However, family has insisted it was accidental.

26-year-old Mike was found in woodland on 16 March, after taking his own life. It’s believed his death came days after his Nan passed away aged 94, who he had moved in with to be her full-time carer.
Love Island producer Richard Cowles has said the show will now insist that all islanders meet with a therapist whether they ask for one or not, and they’ll provide the islanders with social media training and advice on financial management.
Speaking on FUBAR radio, Alex said: ‘I had a little rant on Instagram. I went through a bit of a dark patch and luckily one of the producers follow me on Instagram, saw the rant, got in touch with me and put me back in touch with a psychiatrist.
‘Looking back, all I needed to do was be forward and go talk to them. I didn’t want to talk to anyone about it, but after having ranted after answering a fan’s questions and speaking to the Love Island psychiatrist, it got me through it.
‘It gave me a plan on how to take my life forward and now we’re here. We’re all good.’
The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang has warned the AMC show will ‘never’ be exactly like the comics (Picture: AMC)
The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang has explained that the AMC zombie apocalypse show will ‘never be exactly like Robert Kirkman’s comics.’
A lot of stark differences have been made in the show as it continues into its ninth season, including the death of Jesus in the episode titled Evolution and Judith Grimes continuing to live on – despite being killed off in the books.
Talking about the time jump following Andrew Lincoln’s departure as Rick Grimes at PaleyFest in Los Angeles, Angela explained: ‘There’s a jump in the comics but you know we decided to go a little further ahead in time than the comics do.
‘I kind of felt like, “Okay, we’re writing out Rick… how do we promise that there is so much more cool story to tell with all these amazing characters that we have on the show?” So I thought it would be a really fun twist to jump that time at the end of his last episode.
Jesus was killed off in the show, but lives on in the comic books (Picture: AMC)
‘We’re all so inspired by the comics,’ Angela continued to Comic Book. ‘Kirkman is such a master of the page-turner. You read it and it’s like a juicy, juicy, just fun comic book to read.
‘There’s so many wonderful, iconic moments in the comics. Moments you get to and just say, “Oh my God, I can’t believe he just did that. I have to see this on screen!”
‘As writers, as with any fans of the comics, we have those same responses.
‘But with the show we have such a different array of characters and such different circumstances that it’s never going to be exactly the comic, nor should it be. It’s a different medium.’
The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC in the US.

Sargent Abraham Ford could be making a comeback to The Walking Dead universe (Picture: AMC)
The Walking Dead star Michael Cudlitz has heavily hinted that we’ll be seeing Sergeant Abraham Ford once again in the not too distant future.
Yep, despite being indirectly killed off by Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and later on by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who bashed his head in with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire in season six, the actor is convinced that the universe’s expansion will allow for his return.
Speaking on US chat show Strahan and Sara with Sara Haines and Michael Strahan earlier this week, Michael explained: ‘The show has sort of laid out in its history that the way they tell stories is through flashbacks and origin stories.
‘There’s still characters on the show that were very close with Abraham that he had history with. We could very easily go back.’
Michael Cudlitz says a return to the AMC series is very possible (Picture: AMC)
He continued: ‘They’re also doing other movies that are gonna move in time, go back in time, go forward in time, and I believe pair up characters that weren’t necessarily paired up in the graphic novels.’
Presenter Sara noted that it sounded like Michael is making a comeback to the AMC series, to which he responded: ‘A strong, subtle yes. Very, very possible.’

But what’s the show doing on tonight – and what can we expect from the unexpected episode?
Here’s what you need to know.
Why is Coronation Street on for an hour on Sunday night?
A double episode of Coronation Street will air on Sunday night to make up for the show’s absence from the airwaves on Friday.
Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale were booted out of their usual timeslots on Friday night to make way for England’s Euro 2020 qualifier match against Czech Republic (which England won 5-0).
Tonight’s episode of Corrie is the double episode which would have aired on Friday, following the dramatic events on the soap earlier in the week.
The soap will also be off air on Monday night because of more football – this time as England take on Montenegro.
However Corrie fans can expect two extra episodes to be added to the schedule to make up for this in due course.
What will happen in Sunday night’s Coronation Street?
Here is our marvellous @CharlieDemelo to tell you that there is no Coronation Street on tonight.
BUT, if you watch the video you might get a little preview of what's coming up on Sunday's hour long special…

Identical twin sisters Brittany and Briana and their identical twin brother husbands Josh and Jeremy Salyers have unveiled their plans to synchronise their pregnancies.
On top of having children at the same time, the two identical twin couples are also planning on living together so they can raise their families all under the same roof.
In TLC documentary Our Twinsane Wedding, Jeremy revealed how he wants his and his brother’s child to be born on the exact same day, telling the cameras: ‘We want to have twins, and we want them to be born on the same day…
‘We’ll be raising our families together as well. That’s something we’re all on the same page about too.’
Identical twins marry identical twins and plan to have babies at the same time (Picture: TLC)
Following their joint wedding, Brittany added: ‘Our children will be genetic siblings, so they’ll be cousins in theory, but they’ll be genetic siblings because we share DNA, they have the same DNA so…’
Briana and Brittany confessed that it would be ‘difficult’ not sharing the experiences of pregnancy at the same time, with Briana admitting: ‘If she [Brittany] was pregnant I would prefer being pregnant too.
‘Being pregnant at different times would be difficult especially with the physical changes that happen.’
She added: ‘So if I was pregnant and Brittany wasn’t, I imagine I would look very different… That would be so hard.’
The sisters still dress the same and are both licensed attorneys working at the same law firm, and even have the same habits.
‘Some people hold hands, we hold feet… It’s just something we do whenever we’re sitting next to each other,’ Briana spilled. Erm, okay?
Our Twinsane Wedding is available to watch on TLC.

The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus mourns Andrew Lincoln’s departure (Picture: FilmMagic)
The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln left the show earlier this year after revealing he wanted to spend more time with his family.
But while fans continue to praise the show now his absence has been filled with The Whisperers, it seems the 45-year-old’s co-stars are finding it hard to get over his departure.
And seriously, it’s like his buddy has turned into a zombie IRL.
Mourning the fact that they are no longer working together, Norman said: ‘He left the show in such a poetic Andrew Lincoln way.
‘He stood up and gave a speech to everyone. People pulled out their phones and he goes, “Everybody put down your phones, this is ours.”‘
The star added: ‘That was such an Andy thing to do, such a right-on thing to do. I feel like he’s with me there every day.’

We mean, could you not just drop him a text?
The 50-year-old echoed the same sentiment when chatting to fans on a Walking Dead panel at PaleyFest.
He told them: ‘I’ve seen so many people come and go. Right now on the show, the ghosts of all those guys are with me through every frickin’ scene.
‘I remember how tight Andy [Lincoln] and I are, how tight Scott [Wilson] and I were and Jon [Bernthal], too.’
Andrew left part way through season nine, despite asking if he could walk away from the show earlier.

He wanted to leave in season eight (Picture: AMC)
When chatting to Entertainment Weekly, the father-of-two revealed how he’d hoped to have left earlier but just couldn’t give it up.
The actor confessed: ‘I had a conversation during season four with [executive producer] Scott Gimple about this.
‘We shared young families and there was a lot of synchronicity between the two of us that were two heads of a show that seemed to be getting bigger and bigger.
‘We spoke about it and said; “There’s got to be a shape. We need a shape to work out if we get to season five then maybe we’ve got a couple more.”’
He added: ‘There were all these ifs and buts and strategies. And I said eight sounds like a good number.’
However, when it came to him being written out of the show, Andrew revealed that it ‘wasn’t time.’

Rose Williams (right) plays Charlotte Heywood in Jane Austen’s Sanditon (Picture: SWNS)
Rose Williams has been photographed for the first time as Charlotte Heywood in ITV’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sanditon.
The actress was dressed up in 19th century costume as she shot scenes in Clevedon, North Somerset on Friday along the coast with a number of co-stars, including Saoirse Ronan.
A number of extras were also seen transformed into the time period, hanging out in-between takes.
ITV’s Sanditon has been adapted by Emmy and BAFTA-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies into an 11 episode series, which tells the story of the joyously impulsvie, spirited and unconventional Charlotte and her spiky relationship with the humourous, charming Sidney Parker (Theo James).

The unfinished novel was written just months before Austen’s death in 1817, with the synopsis reading: ‘When a chance accident transports her from her rural hometown of Willingden to the would-be coastal resort of the eponymous title, it exposes Charlotte to the intrigues and dalliances of a seaside town on the make, and the characters whose fortunes depend on its commercial success.
‘The twists and turns of the plot, which takes viewers from the West Indies to the rotting alleys of London, exposes the hidden agendas of each character and sees Charlotte discover herself and ultimately find love.’

It continues: ‘Excited by the promise of adventure that Sanditon offers, Charlotte is a young woman of enormous energy who builds a reputation as an integral part of the new town.
‘Open and optimistic in spirit, she’s excited by the changes the nineteenth century promises and she’s ready for a new life; she’s a truly modern Austen heroine.

‘Confident in her opinions but unfamiliar with the rules of high society, Charlotte’s self-assurance is knocked when she meets Sidney. Will Sanditon give her somewhere, and someone, to love?’
At the time of the casting announcement, Rose enthused: ‘I am absolutely thrilled to be playing Charlotte Heywood.
‘This role is such a blessing. She’s a brilliant character- modern, headstrong, with heart and a voice. Andrew’s scripts are so beautifully written and wonderfully full of powerful female characters.
‘I can’t wait to start filming soon with the wonderful cast and creative team on Sanditon.’
Sanditon is expected to air in 2020 on ITV.

Grand Tour’s James May can tick off ‘break Joseph Stalin’s home’ from his bucket list now.
The trio was up to no good when they visited Georgia for the latest episode of the Amazon series and it was pretty clear something was going to go wrong as the cameras rolled when they visited the Joseph Stalin Museum in Gori.
Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson were in the establishment with James when he damaged some seriously historical items as seen in a short clip shared on the show’s official Twitter page on Sunday.
As you do. When in Gori, and all that.
Arriving in the home where the controversial Soviet dictator was raised at the start of the 19th Century, Jeremy said pointing at the dining area: ‘So Stalin sat at that table in the morning when he was a little boy and said, “one day when I grow up I want to be the nastiest piece of work the world has ever seen”.’

Before walking over to a cupboard in the wall, James added: ‘So he was sitting right here in his little shorts and his little moustache.’
It was at this point James decided it would be a good idea to inspect the rest of the room when he snapped the cupboard door right from its hinges.
‘I’ve broken Stalin’s house. Jeez, I’m going to the Gulag,’ he said referring to forced-labour camp system used during Stalin’s rule.
The accident left his pals in stitches as Richard exclaimed: ‘James!’
James May has announced his solo show (Picture: Amazon Prime)
Amazon revealed last year that the three presenters of the car show signed deals that would see them branching off to produce their own solo TV shows for the streaming platform.
The Grand Tour remains one of the most popular series on Amazon Video with Jeremy, Richard Hammond and James continuing to keep audiences entertained.
The Grand Tour season four is set to ditch the episodic format and instead focus on the specials that see the trio driving around various exotic locations and getting up to mischief.
Solo projects for both Jeremy and Richard are also expected to be revealed by Amazon over the coming months.

Laurence Fox was inspired by Boris Johnson for his character in Victoria (Picture: ITV)
Victoria newcomer Laurence Fox has revealed that his take on Lord Palmerston was inspired by none other than Boris Johnson.
With the hit ITV series, starring Jenna Coleman, returning to ITV tonight the 40-year-old joined Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford for This Morning on Sunday to confess that he mimicked the MP on the advice of the series creator.
Laurence, who plays the ‘charismatic and wayward Foreign Secretary,’ told the hosts: ‘I got a few emails from [series creator] Daisy Goodwin saying, “More like Boris Johnson.”
‘I was backing off it a bit but she wanted more Boris Johnson so I added Boris Johnson and Willy Wonka. Some might say I overcooked it somewhat, who knows?’

Laurence revealed that he decided to throw Willy Wonka into the mix when he discovered a prop lying around the costume department.
‘I found this cane in costume and I nicked it and I started twiddling it around, which solved my acting hands,’ he explained.
Laurence went on to reveal that his character Lord Palmerston initially clashes with Victoria and Albert, telling Ruth and Eamonn: ‘I think he’s probably a little bit sexist, maybe.
‘He thinks, “What is this woman doing as Queen?” He’s one of those people that just pokes the elephant in the room at all times anyway.
‘He likes to see where someone’s limit is.’
Victoria returns Sunday at 9pm on ITV.

Cara Horgan and Keeley Hawes in spy thriller Traitors (Picture: Channel 4)
Traitors might be a spy thriller series set in the aftermath of the Second World War, but star Cara Horgan believes there’s parallels with the current political climate.
The Channel 4 six-part drama follows Feef Symonds (Emma Appleton), a young woman who joins the Civil Service in 1945 after Clement Attlee’s Labour Party defeats wartime leader Winston Churchill in a surprise landslide.
What unfolds is a spy drama which charts tensions on many fronts, paranoia between UK and US governments, the beginnings of the Cold War, and even anti-Semitism in post-war Britain, as channelled through Cara Horgan’s character Rae Savitt.
The latter is a Jewish typist for the Home Office who is forced to hide her religion due to the level of anti-Semitism in Britain, something which the actress wasn’t aware of until she researched the role.

‘There was a lot of anti-Semitism in Britain at that time,’ Cara told Metro.co.uk. ‘With the Oswald Moseley riots and there was the Blackshirts.
‘My character is having to walk to work and see pro-Nazi propaganda around and people doing anti-Jewish protests. It was a really stressful time to be a Jewish person in Britain.’
With a nation divided by politics and the future uncertain after the war, there’s certainly a whiff of the current political confusion and disarray surrounding Brexit.
‘I do think it’s very topical right now just because of everything going on with Brexit, and the uncertainty in the government,’ Cara said.
‘It feels like we’re in another time in history where people who are not originally from Britain are now having to question and redefine the place they thought was home, suddenly might not be home.
‘No one knew what was going to happen next and how things were going to be rebuilt. I feel like that’s not too dissimilar what we’re in now with the current state of things.’
The show, however, isn’t really focused on the political allegory. It’s mainly a show about personal relationships, with Savitt dealing with her son, who was evacuated during the war to an orthodox family, returning as someone entirely different with a set of rules outside her norms.

Research into the Jewish experience, and that of women after the war following the demobilisation of armed forces, proved an insightful, if bleak, journey for Cara, adding: ‘After the war meant that women had to step away from jobs they had been doing for the past four years to open employment for the men that had been on the front, so they could come back and work effectively.
‘For a lot of women it was quite a major thing because it had been the first time in their lives they had been given autonomy and independence, and they were expected to be like, “Okay, you have your job back and I’ll go back to the household now.” A lot of women lost their partners and they were the main breadwinner for their household, so the idea that there was a law that meant they had to give that up, that’s part of the story really.
‘Having the threat of invasion and how people lived with that hanging over them, and listening to the radio and constantly being at the whim of the radio, and hearing what had happened and how far the troops had advanced, and then thinking the war is over. Is it over though? Am I safe?
‘Really believing you’re safe again and the kids coming back from being evacuated as well. That whole time must have been stressful really. It’s quite interesting diving into that, reading testimony’s and watching documentaries. I spent a lot of time crying if I’m honest.
‘It’s really sad, really heavy, but interesting nevertheless.’
Traitors airs on Sundays Channel 4 at 9pm, with episodes available on catch-up on All 4.
