HBO boss defends showrunners over Game Of Thrones season eight finale backlash

HBO has defended the Game Of Thrones season eight finale after a petition for a remake has garnered over 1.5million signatures.

The network’s programming president Casey Bloys revealed that he thinks that David Benioff and D.B. Weis ended the franchise on a high and that criticism was to be expected.

‘I think the guys did a great job,’ Casey began. ‘I think to a certain extent it was expected that for a show this big, there’s no way you’re going to please everybody.

‘It’s roughly split with some people loving it and some people disliking it. That’s about what you’d expect.

‘I think the guys landed a massive plane and did a great job doing it. But you’re never going to make everybody happy, nor should that be the goal.’

Addressing the significantly shorter season, Casey continued to Variety: ‘The guys have had a very, very specific plan in their head for a long time.

‘This was not something that was kind of slapdash, where at the end of last season we said, “Eh, we only feel like doing six.” They were very, very deliberate.

‘This was well thought out.’

Although Game Of Thrones is officially over, there are still a number of spin-offs in the works.

Casey previously announced a prequel and confirmed that shooting for the pilot would commence in June, however admitted that it might not have a release date until at least 2021.

Meanwhile, Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin has revealed that he’s got an impressive eight shows currently in development.

Despite only a handful of George’s projects having direct links to Westeros, he teased: ‘I’m still here, and I’m still busy.

‘As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel.

‘I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others.’

He continued: ‘There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced.’

Game Of Thrones is available to watch on catch-up on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

David Tennant admits he ‘wasn’t coping at all’ with Doctor Who fame

David Tennant has admitted he struggled to deal with overnight celebrity after joining the cast of Doctor Who.

The 48-year-old actor, who played the Time Lord in the BBC series from 2005 to 2010 before later reprising his role in 2015, revealed how he felt ‘intimidated’ and sought therapy after finding stardom in the show.

‘The way you imagine it’s going to be is not the way it is at all, David began. ‘It’s much more exposing, and the imaginative leap you’ve had that it will give you status or make you invulnerable is all wrong.

‘It makes you very vulnerable, and very raw.

‘I remember way back, when I’d be in a room and someone well known would walk in, and there’s that sort of whisper goes around the room and everyone looks. And you imagine being that person is somehow powerful.’

David continued to The Sunday Times magazine: ‘When you are that person, you walk into a room and everyone turns their head and whispers, and you feel like you’re being squashed.

‘You feel intimidated, and you feel scared, actually.’

Admitting that he ‘wasn’t coping at all’, David took comfort in ‘a very lovely older lady who was very calm and normal and just helped [him] cope with it.’

David confirmed earlier this week that he is expecting his fifth child with his wife Georgia Moffett.

James Corden instigated the reveal on The Late Late Show, saying: ‘David, we were just talking backstage, this is blowing my mind. You have four children already, your oldest is 17. You just told me you and your wife, the lovely Georgia, are expecting your fifth child.’

The former Time Lord admitted ‘five is a lot’ – before joking that his eldest son Ty, 17, was now giving him and Georgia, 34, lectures on contraception.

Doctor Who is set to return to the BBC in 2020.

Game Of Thrones is officially over and we need to fill the void (Picture: HBO)

The Game Of Thrones season eight finale aired almost a week ago and many of us are still struggling to come to terms with *that* ending.

After spending almost a decade trying to keep up with our favourite characters at Westeros, it’s time we all moved on sunk our teeth into all the other epic fantasies and dramas out there.

So without further a do, we’ve got all the best shows worth bingeing on Amazon Prime Video to fill the void of the HBO franchise, at least that is until the prequel comes out.

Vikings

Vikings character Ragnar
Vikings is waiting to be binged (Picture: Rex Features)

Although it’s not a fantasy, Vikings is equally dramatic and just as gory as Game Of Thrones.

The History Channel show tells the gripping sagas of historical hero Ragnar Lothbrok.

As claimed direct descendant of Odin, god of war and warriors, Ragnar’s mystical nature and devotion to the gods feeds his stealthy maneuvers and determination to become King of the Vikings.

There are five seasons to binge on Amazon Prime and it’s reported that the sixth and final one will be dropping later this year.

American Gods

American Gods on Amazon Prime
There are currently two seasons of American Gods to get through (Picture: Amazon/Starz)

This fantasy drama follows former convict Shadow Man’s discovery of a hidden world where magic is real and where the Old Gods fear irrelevance amid the growing power of the New Gods, including Media and Technology.

In a grand plan to combat the threat, new friend the mysterious Mr. Wednesday attempts to unite the Old Gods to defend their existence and rebuild the influence they have lost, leaving Shadow struggling to accept this new world and his place in it.

Show star Ricky Whittle, who plays Shadow Man, has boldly claimed that the show is ‘even more beautiful’ than Game Of Thrones.

Better watch it for yourself and find out if he’s right, eh?

Outlander

Outlander on Amazon Prime
Outlander is waiting to be binged (Picture: Channel Four)

Outlander is a drama based upon author Diana Gabaldon’s historical time travel book series and rivals Daenerys and Jon Snow in terms of romance and adventure.

The show follows the story of married combat nurse Claire Randall who is mysteriously swept back in time to 743 where she is thrown into an unknown world.

Forced to marry young Scottish warrior, Claire finds herself caught up in a passionate affair between two different men in two moments in time.

Four seasons await you on Amazon Prime, so what are you waiting for?

Black Sails

Black Sails on Amazon Prime
Black Sails is your next favourite show (Picture: Amazon Prime)

Set roughly two decades before the events of Treasure Island and during the Golden Age of Piracy, Black Sails follows Captain Flint and his pirates fighting for the survival of New Providence Island.

It’s filled to the brim with more blood, sex and adventure than any Game Of Thrones fan could ever desire, and that’s just the trailer.

The first season focuses on the hunt for the Spanish treasure galleon Urca de Lima, with the latter three following the collateral of its discovery.

The series concluded in 2017 with its fourth and final season.

The 100

The 100 on Amazon Prime
The 100 on Amazon Prime sees juvenile prisoners are exiled to the Earth’s surface to test whether it’s habitable (Picture: Amazon Prime)

The 100 is an American post-apocalyptic drama that follows a group of survivor prisoners who are sent from a space to see if earth is habitable.

During their adventure they learn that some humans did manage to survive, including the Grounders who are engaged in a bitter power struggle and the cannibal Mountain Men.

The series was renewed for a seventh season last month, so until then there are six installments to power through.

Oh and if that didn’t sell it to you, the guy who created Game Of Thrones language Dothraki also developed the language in The 100, so you know, it’s worth tuning in for.

The Romanoffs

The Romanoff's on Amazon Prime
The Romanoffs kicked off last year (Picture: Amazon)

Like the journey to discover who will end up on the Iron Throne, The Romanoffs centers round separate stories who believe they are descendants of the Russain royal family.

From the creator of Mad Men, the eight-part anthology series takes place in seven countries across the globe.

Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, Isabelle Huppert and Christina Hendricks all star alongside  John Slattery, Amanda Peet, Jack Huston, Kathryn Hahn, Noah Wyle and Paul Reiser.

The first season made its debut on Amazon Prime last year and it remains unknown as to whether it’ll be returning for more action in the not so distant future.

Game Of Thrones is available to watch on catch-up on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

Gemma Atkinson has kicked the rumour mill into overdrive with her latest Instagram post as fans have noticed she’s wearing a rock on her ring finger.

The former Emmerdale actor was having dinner at the Manchester United football ground, Old Trafford, with friends when she posted the picture, in which a big ring can be spotted quite easily.

Gemma’s followers immediately started to ask whether her boyfriend, Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Gorka Márquez, had popped the question.

‘Spotted a ring!!!! 💍💞😄 Looking gorgeous as ever!! X,’ wrote one fan, while others simply asked: ‘engaged?’

Some fans jumped ahead of an official confirmation from the star and went ahead to offer their congratulations.

It seems they’re getting a little ahead of themselves though, as a rep for Gemma confirmed to Metro.co.uk that the couple are not actually engaged.

The couple has previously been forced to deny they are engaged when Gemma flashed a suspected engagement ring last year.

Gorka and Gemma are currently expecting their first child together and have recently confirmed their little bundle of joy is expected within the next two months.

Their happy news was announced by Gemma on Twitter, who told her followers her two dogs – Norman and Ollie – were about to become big brothers.

The actor has documented her pregnancy over the last few months, sharing everything from her new fitness routine to her morning sickness with her fans.

It sounds like Gemma is enjoying her changing body, and once joked about looking like a ‘palm tree with mahooosive coconuts’ while posing next to a real palm tree.

Gorka has been spending as much time with the mum-to-be, despite being on the Strictly Professionals tour. He even made the effort to fly over from Portugal to have a lazy day on the sofa with his new family.

Absolute couple goals.

Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner has revealed she misses smelling like horse manure on set of the HBO fantasy series.

The actress, who played Sansa Stark in the franchise, confessed that she’s beginning to yearn for the stench that encapsulated the cast behind-the-scenes, telling SFX magazine: ‘The last day [of filming] was incredibly difficult.

‘I’m actually starting to miss the mud and being sweaty and smelling like s**t – literal s**t, because it’s horse s**t all up your dress.’

Sophie continued to the publication: ‘I think Game of Thrones means everything to me. It’s been my adolescence, it’s been half my life, basically, and the only half that I can remember.

‘It’s my family. I had substitute fathers, substitute uncles, substitute brothers.

‘I met my best friend on there.

‘It’s the best acting class I could have ever asked for. It’s been my whole life and without Game of Thrones, I think I would be a completely different person.’

Game Of Thrones came to an end last week with the controversial season eight finale.

Before the finale episode aired, fans set up an online campaign calling for the whole series to be remade, racking up well over one million signatures.

Sophie, 22, branded the petition ‘disrespectful’ and called out audiences for being rude.

The star also admitted that she regrets trading in university life to star on the show, telling Graham Norton: ‘I wish I could have gone out and drunk a lot and thrown up in the middle of a club without it being photographed!’

‘But, I am happy with my Game of Thrones experience,’ she added. ‘I don’t think I missed out on too much.’

Game Of Thrones is available to watch on catch-up on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

Game Of Thrones might have ended but it’s left a documentary film in its wake (Picture: HBO)

Game Of Thrones might have come to an end but that doesn’t mean we’re completely ready to bid farewell to series eight.

In fact for those who might be suffering withdrawal symptoms since the show bowed out last weekend get an extra treat this weekend in the shape of The Last Watch.

The two-hour documentary takes a look behind the scenes of season 8 as it shows the mechanics of making each scene as well as showing never-before-seen interactions between the cast.

And a recently released trailer shows just how emotional it was for them to leave the series behind for good – as footage of a table reading in the preview revealed.

So when it’s on and when can you tune in? Here’s what you need to know…

When is Game of Thrones: The Last Watch on TV?

Like the series of Game Of Thrones, The Last Watch will be simulcast in both the US and the UK, on Sunday night there and in the early hours of Monday morning here.

That means you’ll get your first chance to see it on Sky Atlantic on Monday morning at 2am – although you’ll be up quite late for this one as it runs for longer than your average episode, clocking in at two hours and 10 minutes.

If you really can’t face staying up, you can see it on Monday night at the more civilised hour of 9pm on Sky Atlantic.

You’ll also be able to catch up with it on Sky Go, or via NOW TV.

What can you expect from Game Of Thrones: The Last Watch?

Kit Harington as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones

According to HBO fans can expect the following: ‘Made with unprecedented access, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch is an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production.

‘It follows the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.

Much more than a “making of” documentary this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world – and then have to say goodbye to it.’

Expect to see a whole bunch of familiar faces also, with Kit Harington, Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage and Sophie Turner among those showing up in the film.

Claudia Winkleman admits she’s ‘evil’ to Tess Daley… by making her come round to her house

Claudia Winkleman has revealed that while her and Strictly Come Dancing co-presenter Tess Daly get on swimmingly, she does have one ‘evil’ habit when it comes to their friendship.

Speaking to The Mirror Claudia said: ‘I see Tess all the time. We laugh, we eat – there’s a lot of eating – we’re just hanging out together, and our little kids get on.’

Cute, but surely it’s not all hunky dory?

‘I make her come round to me, because she lives outside London and I’m evil like that,’ she goes on to admit.

Ok, Clauds. You might think that’s evil, but we think it’s just practical. We do the same to our friends who live just down the road.

The presenter also waxed lyrical about her time spent on Strictly, saying it’s ‘like a brilliant time at school’. ‘[It’s] something I really look forward to, when all the gang get back together.

‘We have a total laugh, hope it does well and never take it for granted, then we all break up.’

Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly

One member of the gang who won’t be returning is Darcey Bussell, who announced she would be leaving the BBC show in April.

She has since revealed she decided to leave because she ‘didn’t want to push her luck’ and wants her daughters to remember her as ‘a classical dancer and not just a judge on Strictly’.

During her interview, Claudia said she ‘loves’ Darcey and is ‘really going to miss her’.

There are countless rumours flying around about who is going to fill the hole in the judging panel, though Claudia herself is keeping tight-lipped in case she gets ‘killed’.

It Takes Two host Zoe Ball says she has heard the new judge will be a woman, but is personally rooting for Anton Du Beke to be promoted from the dancefloor to the panel.

At one point, it sounded as though current judge Shirley Ballas – who says she has ‘a hole in her heart’ following Darcey’s departure – was lining up her own son to join the judging line-up, though she recently denied those rumours.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, she said: ‘I never said that. As usual, things get twisted. I never said that at all.

‘I think the BBC would do an amazing job with whomever they pick as long as they feel they are qualified and they fit the rest of the panel. I am sure it would be absolutely spectacular.’

**Some Lucifer season 4 spoilers below**

Lucifer season five may be the most coveted series of television ever as fans continue their campaign to get the Tom Ellis comedy renewed on Netflix.

And the Lucifans’ dedication might just pay off (again).

Series showrunners have come out in support of the Lucifer season five campaign saying it’s ‘super important’.

Joe Henderson explained: ‘To that point, the fan support is super-important, and in particular the [first] month is going to be crucial towards whether or not we get a season five, because they are paying attention.’

He told TVLine: ‘And by the way, so far, the fan support has been amazing. It’s been everything you could ask for.’

Ildy Modrovich added: ‘They’ll hopefully let us know within a month [by June 8].

‘That tends to be how they do things with first-season shows, that they will hopefully let everyone know within a month.’

She also said that the ‘binging and all the fan support helps with that’.

Well, that’s some good news! Nice to know our binge-watching is actually beneficial.

Fans are continuing to campaign heavily for Lucifer season five to be recommissioned by Netflix on social media with the hashtag #LuciferSeason5 still doing the rounds and Tom Ellis has all but confirmed it himself – with more nudity and bad language on the cards too.

Fans also think the series will return with a significant time jump.

Here’s hoping season five will actually be announced before June 8.

Lucifer season 4 is currently streaming on Netflix.

Little Black Mirror: Latin American Netflix set to launch Black Mirror miniseries for YouTube

The series will be released on the Netflix América Latina channel (Picture: Netflix)

Netflix has announced a three-part miniseries, Little Black Mirror, to promote the upcoming fifth series of the dystopian show.

The short films are aimed at a Spanish-speaking audience and will be released on Netflix’s América Latina YouTube channel over the next two weeks.

The so-called ‘mini-stories’ aren’t created by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones (the brains behind the main anthology episodes), but are directly inspired by their main Black Mirror series.

Maia Mitchell, Rudy Mancuso, Alesso, Hannah Stocking, Juanpa Zurita, Lele Pons, Anwar Jibawi, Jeff Wittek and Delaney Glazer are all set to appear in the episodes, which have been directed and scored by actor and internet personality Rudy Mancuso.

Netflix reportedly reached out to a number of YouTube and internet stars to create their own take on the hit series.

The main series of Black Mirror is set to premiere for a fifth time on 5 June, with three full episodes for us to sink our teeth into.

Andrew Scott aka Fleabag’s Hot Priest is set to star in Smithereens, while Miley Cyrus takes on the familiar role of an internationally famous pop star in Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too.

On Miley’s unlikely casting, Charlie told Metro.co.uk it was a complete accident: ‘We thought it would be great if we had someone like Miley Cyrus, there’s no way we’d get her, but we’ve got nothing to lose by trying to get the script to her I guess.

Miley Cyrus in Black Mirror trailer
Miley Cyrus is making her Black Mirror debut in the new series (Picture: Netflix)

‘Then we were extremely lucky and pretty gobsmacked that she’d heard of the show, read the script, liked that and got on the Skype call with us.’

We have no idea of what is about to happen to Miley in the much-anticipated ep, but we know it’s not going to be as happy as a Hannah Montana episode.

Charlie revealed he did have to think about that aspect: ‘We did have a conversation at one point which was like “will people take this as a meta Hannah Montana thing”, but we didn’t worry about that too much, and she’s such a good sport.’

‘She’s willing to slightly satirize the music industry, she’s happy to sort’ve have fun with that.’

Glenn Howerton’s NBC series AP Bio has been cancelled after two seasons and fans are not having it.

Series creator Mike O’Brien broke the news with fans on Twitter, writing that he is ‘intensely sad’ about the situation.

‘This has been my favorite project of my life and that’s because of the amazing writers, cast and crew. As most canceled shows probably feel, I think we were just hitting our stride and everyone was still loving the work, so this is very hard. We have 4 left to air and they’re 4 of my favorites.’

The hashtag #SaveAPBio is now trending with a number of celebrity fans showing their support.

Variety reports that the comedy, in which It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Glenn Howerton plays a disgraced Harvard philosophy scholar forced to work as a high school teacher, is the second lowest-rated scripted series for NBC.

The series has received mixed reviews since it premiered in February 2018 with a 65 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Since news of the cancellation broke, legions of annoyed fans have been trying to get #SaveAPBio trending and it’s gaining huge traction on Twitter with Howerton himself urging views to keep it trending.

His co-star Patton Oswalt tweeted: ‘This has…not been a great day. Please read this thread and know everyone on @NBCAPBio had the most fun making that show and we’re sad that none of us get to see where it was gonna go. But we’re glad for the trip we got to take. Thank you @MikeOBrienXOXO. #APBio’

AP Bio tweet

Star Wars’ Mark Hammill also agreed the cancellation is ‘awful news’ and actor Meredith Salenger said: ‘Help keep this trending. If u like APBio. Please hashtag #SaveAPBio Remember when y’all rallied for @nbcbrooklyn99.’

Other big names voicing their support include SNL’s Paula Pell, Supergirl star Sam Witwer and comedian Nikki Glaser.

If the likes of Lucifer and Brooklyn Nine-Nin can be saved by fan movements then there certainly is hope for AP Bio.

AP Bio airs on NBC and Hulu in the US.

BBC’s Bodyguard had the nation hooked when it aired last year – and it was mostly due to the sizzling chemistry between leads Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden.

The Line of Duty star is currently starring opposite Topy Stephens in BBC Two period drama Summer of Rockets, but her insane chemistry with Madden in last year’s Bodyguard was a huge talking point among viewers at the time.

The 43-year-old actress who played the role of the Home Secretary in the popular series said it was down to them laughing together on set.

‘The secret is we didn’t stop laughing. You know when someone just tickles you? I felt safe with him,’ she told the Mail on Sunday.

‘We had some very odd things to do together, which means you have to trust each other and I really did trust him.’

In the same interview, The Durrells star opened up about her struggles with depression.

She thinks suffering depression is in her ‘DNA’ after opening up about battling the condition for years.

‘It’s something that never goes away. I think it is in your DNA if you suffer with it.

‘I have become better equipped at looking after myself. I’ve tried various things over the years. Keeping busy helps, being forced to carry on, because inevitably it will pass.

Keeley also struggles with anxiety, although she considers it to be a very ‘human thing’.

‘It’s a very human thing, isn’t it, to worry about what you say and how you are perceived?’

Keeley Hawes is currently starring in Summer of Rockets which continues on BBC Two on Wednesdays at 9pm.

**Spoilers for Gentleman Jack episode 2 below**

Gentleman Jack fans found their new favourite TV heroine tying herself in knots in the second episode of the new BBC drama.

Anne Lister, played by Suranne Jones, was confronted with a question when attending a boy who had been injured after a cart accident.

‘Are you a man?’

Unfortunately, the answer is much more complicated than the question – especially for Anne.

‘Well that’s a… question,’ laughed an uncharacteristically nervous Anne. ‘And you are not the first person to ask it.’

She then goes on to tell a story of when she was once mistaken for a man while dressed ‘very ladylike’.

‘No, I am not a man,’ she finally replied. ‘I am a lady. A woman. A lady-woman.

‘I’m a woman.’

Viewers of the show were left in stitches by the all-too-familiar scenario, with one tweeting: ‘Anne Lister struggling with gender definition is a whole ass mood’.

Some noticed a similarity between Anne’s response and David Walliam’s old Little Britain character, whose catchphrase was ‘I’m a lady’.

The drama about the ‘first modern lesbian’ has proved such a hit that it has already been renewed for a second series.

‘We always dreamed there would be more and now we get to play it all out,’ said Suranne of getting to play Anne again.

‘It’s such amazing and positive news. I love working with the brilliant and talented Sophie Rundle and can’t wait to create some more Lister and Walker moments with her too.’

A massive 5.1 million people tuned in to the series premiere last Sunday, making it the most successful BBC new drama launch in 2019 so far.

Gentleman Jack airs on BBC One on Sundays at 9pm.

Gentleman Jack episode 2 review: Anne Lister’s quest to woo Ann Walker picks up speed in steady episode

Programme Name: Gentleman Jack - TX: 26/05/2019 - Episode: Gentleman Jack - Ep 2 (No. n/a) - Picture Shows: Anne Lister (SURANNE JONES), Ann Walker (SOPHIE RUNDLE) - (C) Lookout Point/HBO - Photographer: Matt Squire
Lister and Walker’s connection is undeniable (Picture: BBC)

Anne Lister is continuing her quest for the Ann Walker’s heart this episode – and doing a pretty fine job of it too by the looks of things in the second episode of Gentleman Jack.

While the first episode did a pretty good job of setting up Lister’s ability to be cock of the walk, I Just Went There To Study Anatomy focuses on the other key players in her life, and more importantly, what they think of her.

Though it wasn’t hinted at too much in the first episode bar one or two scenes, this episode takes particular care in showing the world isn’t oblivious to the ‘strange’ nature of Lister in that era.

In one particular scene, a young boy without malice asks her if she’s a man or a woman – and in the politest way possible, Lister makes it clear that it’s not the first time that she’s heard that, from people who should know better than to ask.

But throughout it all, Walker stands true to Lister and continues to defend her, even when she’s warned that ‘women cannot be left alone with her’ .

‘People’, who ever they may be, are talking about Lister behind her back, saying all kinds of nonsense as she continues to be a curiosity for Halifax – but to her credit, she has little time to worry, as she has businesses to sort.

The men of Halifax are underestimating Lister’s abilities (Picture: BBC)

Continuing to underestimate her abilities in business because she’s a woman, the men around her have been stealing coal and convinced she’ll never know.

Well, she has, and now she’s got a bit of a mission on her hands to prove it, all while demanding money from people continuing to use their land.

Plans for Shibden Hall are also beginning to take shape, much to Marian’s continued annoyance and her parent’s confusion.

Just when she thinks she’s finally getting a handle on things, life throws another curveball as her former love sends a wedding invitation, and the heartbroken Lister decides to attend – all in black with the most ludicrous hat in the world.

Suranne Jones continues to be enchanting as Lister and her determination in all walks of life is infectious – but as this episode has the story wandering along on an average pace you can’t help but wonder when something in her perfectly built world will collapse and take everything with it.

With both Lister and Walker now heading to the Lake District, is it time for their romance to kick up a notch?

Gentleman Jack continues next Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.

**Spoilers for Gentleman Jack episode 2**

Gentleman Jack continues to thrill viewers as Suranne Jones takes on the role of the first modern lesbian, Anne Lister.

Episode two kicked off on BBC One tonight and it featured a very raunchy sex scene that has sent viewers into a bit of a frenzy on Twitter.

One viewer wrote: ‘#GentlemanJack Wow I even went red.’

While another added: ‘Looked up to seeing Anne giving/receiving an enthusiastic lesson in anatomy. Accidentally muted the tv out of second hand embarrassment. Woah. #GentlemanJack @BBCOne.’

Perhaps not the type of show to watch with your granny in the room.

The scene in question was a flashback that saw Anne remember a time she engaged in oral sex with a former lover.

Such a scene is quite shocking for a BBC period drama but it is a joint HBO production so we have them to thank for that.

The rather risqué moment comes after the show was praised for its LGBTQ representation in the opening episode.

Jones, 40, revealed she’d enlisted the help of an ‘intimacy expert’ for the show’s sex scenes and it seems to have paid off.

The series premiere last week was warmly received with audiences praising Jones for her ‘captivating’ performance.

Gentleman Jack airs on BBC One on Sundays at 9pm.

A women-led reboot of Peep Show is being developed in America and we’re intrigued

Gender-swapped reboots of movies have been having a bit of a moment recently with the likes of Oceans 8 and Ghostbusters but now a women-led remake of Channel 4 classic Peep Show is in the works.

Starz, Fox, and Spike have tried to recreate the long-running comedy’s signature cringe humour to no avail, but now FX are set to try their luck.

Series creator Sam Bain wrote an essay published in The Guardian confirming a women-led version of Peep Show is in the works with Karey Dornetto (Portlandia, Community) writing the script.

He said ‘two female leads’ will play the equivalent of David Mitchell and Robert Webb’s Mark and Jez.

He wrote: ‘I can’t wait to find out what sick and twisted bull**** goes on inside the minds of a pair of female losers.’

Ooh. Something like Broad City is springing to mind but perhaps it will be a grittier experience.

There have been unsuccessful attempts to remake the cult-comedy Stateside, with footage of a terrible Peep Show US pilot starring The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galeki leaking online.

So maybe a woman’s touch is what it takes to make Peep Show transferrable to the US.

Successful US reboots of UK shows have been done before with the US versions of Shameless and The Office being the most obvious examples.

All old episodes of Peep Show can be watched on All4.

You didn’t think Kim Kardashian would become a criminal justice lawyer without us all watching, did you?

The Kardashian will soon be crossing over to the True Crime genre to make a two-hour documentary about her public campaign for criminal justice reform.

It’s been confirmed that the reality star will executive produce a new programme entitled, Kim Kardashian: The Justice Project, for a channel dedicated to shows about US crime.

Since successfully achieving clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, the 38-year-old has now decided to pursue her own career in law and so the programme will follow her journey to the bar exam in 2022.

Variety reports that documentary will cover ‘Kardashian’s efforts to secure freedom for Americans who she believes have been wronged by the justice system.

‘Kim Kardashian: The Justice Project is an exclusive, never before seen look inside her mission to tackle one of America’s most controversial subjects.’

The project already has the green light from NBC TV channel Oxygen, which runs True Crime programming targeted at women.

Kim confirmed her pursuit to become a lawyer back in April, 12 years after rising to prominence on E!’s reality show about her family, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Since becoming a mum, Kim has used her position for social activism, meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss prison reform on more than one occasion.

As well as the release of Alice Marie Johnson, Kim’s help has been instrumental in freeing Paul Algarin, who was released from Central Prison on 19 April after serving seven years for weapons charges.

Of course, the passion for criminal law runs in Kim’s family as her father, Robert Kardashian Sr, was one of OJ Simpson’s attorneys in his 1995 double murder trial.

Kim has already been offered her first job at a law firm working with Robert Shapiro, the man who worked alongside Robert Kardashian in the OJ Simpson trial.

Hinting at the drama in store for Kim’s documentary, Shapiro says he thinks ‘it’s going to be a very difficult and long process for [Kim], doing it the way she’s doing it.’

Kim is studying for the 2022 bar exam alongside a four-year apprenticeship with an unnamed law firm in San Francisco.

In the state of California, aspiring lawyers are permitted to sit the bar exam without a law degree.

Game of Thrones prequel: cast, plot, release date and everything we know about Bloodmoon so far

The prequel will go back thousands of years from the Westeros we know and love (Picture: HBO/Amazon)

Game of Thrones fans were left with mixed feelings after last week’s finale.

Regardless of your feelings over that ending, one thing’s for sure: we’ll miss the residents of Westeros.

But there’s good news ahead! Not only are HBO releasing a new documentary, there’s also some exciting news about George RR Martin’s next book and more information on the Game of Thrones prequel.

What will the Game of Thrones prequel be called?

The GoT prequel has the working title of Bloodmoon.

It’s not clear if it will keep this name when it goes to air.

What will the Game of Thrones prequel be about?

Set thousands of years before GoT, Bloodmoon will begin during The Age of Heroes.

During this time, there was a winter which lasted a whole generation, which is when the White Walkers arrived for the first time.

We’re already excited and scared (Picture: HBO)

The events of this era in time – the Long Night – will feature heavily in the prequel.

While we won’t see any of our favourite GoT characters, we may see some of their predecessors such as Bran the Builder, founder of the House of Stark as well as Lann the Clever, founder of the House of Lannister.

When will the Game of Thrones prequel air?

Filming is due to start in June, but no release date has been set yet.

HBO Programming President Casey Bloys told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this month they’re in no rush to release the prequel.

He said: ‘What I’m not doing is working backwards by saying, “this has to be on the air by this date.”‘

He added: ‘I don’t want to speculate any dates.’

Who will be in the Game of Thrones prequel cast?

The cast, led by Naomi Watts, is pretty big, and if GoT is anything to go by, we’re sure it will grow and grow.

Some cast highlights include:

  • Naomi Watts, best known for her role in Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive and 21 Grams
  • Josh Whitehouse, Burberry model and Poldark actor
  • Naomi Ackie, best known for her role in Lady Macbeth
  • Denise Gough, star of Colette and Apple Tree Yard
  • Jamie Campbell Bower, known for his roles in The Twilight Saga and Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Toby Regbo, John Simm, Marquis Rodriguez, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan, Dixie Egerickx and Sheila Atim will also star.

Are there going to be any other Game of Thrones spin-off shows?

There are reportedly plans to create up to four more spin-off shows, however, it’s unclear whether or not these have all been commissioned, or will go ahead.

When will George RR Martin release the Winds of Winter book?

George RR Martin previously refused to speculate on when he may finish the Winds of Winter.

However, that all changed earlier this week when he responded to an Air New Zealand ad which invited him over there to finish his book.

On his blog he wrote: ‘If I don’t have The Winds of Winter in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.’

Worldcon takes place in New Zealand in the summer of 2020, which isn’t very far away at all.

Could ‘sassy’ party girl Amber Rose Gill be the first-known face of Love Island 2019?

The 21-year-old beautician is reportedly the first ‘confirmed’ contestant of the new series after the ‘fun-loving’ Newcastle party girl was flown out to Majorca this weekend for the show.

It’s just one week (one week, people) until the start of our long, hot summer with ITV2 and so far very little has been given away about the line-up.

A TV insider told The Sun: ‘Amber is a down to earth and fun-loving girl. She loves to party and is always out in Newcastle.

Amber Rose Gill
The 21-year-old could be joining to the 2019 line-up (Instagram/Amber Rose Gill)

‘She’s beautiful and looks incredible in a bikini and unlike other previous stars of the show doesn’t have masses of Instagram followers.’

Amber Rose, who has modeled for Newcastle fashion brand Fash 1, is 5ft4in and a dress size 8, but also clearly confident about posing in a bikini on her Instagram page.

Though at the time of publishing, her public page had amassed just under 6,000 followers, which is a fraction of the millions that last year’s contestants Laura Anderson and Megan Barton-Hanson now boast.

It follows reports that ‘dozens’ of ‘gutted’ Love Island hopefuls were cut from the official 2019 line-up on Sunday amidst surprise drugs testing.

It is alleged that show bosses sprung the tests on hopefuls ahead of picking the final line-up and many were instantly dropped after being found with cocaine, ketamine and cannabis in their systems.

It’s reportedly the first time drug testing has taken place ahead of the show airing.

Amber Rose Gill

‘They weren’t warned, so it came as a surprise,’ an insider told The Star on Sunday.

‘That’s the only way to do it, if people are told way in advance, they can take steps to avoid getting caught.’

As far as what to expect from the forthcoming line-up, we’re expecting to see more body diversity after a frenzied viewers took to social media in 2018 worrying about their bodies.

ITV told Metro.co.uk that they ‘endeavour to have a diverse range of contestants appearing on the programme’ and that ‘the only stipulations are that applicants are over 18, single and looking for love’.

Rumoured contestants have already included 30-year-old plus-size model Jada Sezer.

Jada is a mental health campaigner who regularly speaks out for body positivity, and was the first plus-size model to walk at London Fashion Week.

Another alleged Love Island 2019 cast member who’s been all but officially confirmed is boxing champion Tyson Fury’s younger brother, Tommy.

Fury recently revealed in an interview with ESPN that his 19-year-old brother was about to enter the villa on the hunt for love this summer.

It’s also understood that Tommy dumped his childhood sweetheart, Millie Roberts, after two years, just so he could be elligible for the competition.

And fellow siblings of the famous expected to take part include Soph Piper, the little sister of Rochelle Humes, and Curtis Pritchard, whose big brother AJ is in Strictly Come Dancing.

Kris Jenner is not happy with son-in-law Kanye West and his ‘bad energy’.

The momager ranted about Kim Kardashian’s husband on the latest episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians on Sunday, after Kanye ‘disrespected’ her boyfriend Corey Gamble.

Kris, 63, put Kanye, 41, on blast asking Corey, 38, why he has never introduced his family members in the five years that he has been with Kris.

According to Kim, Kanye texted Corey out of the blue to say: ‘We don’t know you, we’ve never met any of your family members.’

Both Kim and Khloe said Kanye’s ‘blunt’ delivery was not great, they felt like the essence of what he was saying was valid.

But Kris didn’t see it that way.

The 63-year-old said: ‘I just wish I knew why [Kanye] has to bring bad energy into the field at 6 o’clock in the morning

‘I would never disrespect somebody and say that.’

Khloe vowed to ‘ride for’ her brother-in-law when she traveled to Palm Springs with Kris later in the episode, and Corey made a surprise appearance as a third wheel.

‘Hurt’ by Khloe’s poor attitude, Kris vented: ‘I think it’s really unfair to direct this attitude towards Corey,.

‘Her behaviour is just uncalled for. … It’s really important for Khloé to understand that she really needs to get on my bandwagon because Corey is a part of the family, he isn’t going anywhere and she needs to be nice.’

Kris has been married twice, divorcing Robert Kardashian in 1991, and calling time on her marriage to Caitlyn Jenner in 2014, after a 24-year relationship.

The reality star turned manager has been with Corey Gamble since 2014, after meeting him at Riccardo Tisci’s 40th birthday party in Ibiza.

Corey previously worked as a road manager for an entertainment and marketing company owned by Scooter Braun.

He therefore worked closely with Justin Bieber, whom he affectionately calls his nephew.

But little is known about Corey’s connections outside of Kris’s circle – and clearly, the Kardashians are no more enlightened than we are!
