Netflix’s unstoppable reign as the King of Streaming will likely ensure that we’ll never run out of brilliant TV shows to watch (well, probably never, anyway).

From compelling detective series to hilarious cartoons about spies and medieval kingdoms to uplifting makeover shows, the streaming behemoth just keeps on delivering hit after hit when it comes to producing great television.

By now, everyone will likely have their favourite (and second, third and fourth-favourite) Netflix show, but, y’know, there’s always the possibility that you might have somehow missed out on one of the platform’s biggest productions.

Or maybe you’ve tried to resist the charms of the service for years, and now you’ve finally given up and are looking for a crash course in the best Netflix shows going. Or maybe you’re just here to tell us that you’ve ‘completed it, mate’ when it comes to having binge-watched the following shows (in which case, might we suggest a re-watch?).

Whatever your reason for landing here, we hope you’ll find plenty to enjoy in our look at some of the best TV shows that you should be watching on Netflix right now.

Stranger Things

The strange(r) sci-fi goings-on in Hawkins, Indiana have thrilled Netflix users since 2016, with the latest season of the show dropping only last month where it went about ‘changing everything’. There are now 25 thrilling episodes of Stranger Things there for the taking on Netflix, so get on it now if you somehow haven’t done so already.

Black Mirror

Andrew Scott is just one of the major stars to appear in Black Mirror (Picture: Stuart Hendry / Netflix)

Charlie Brooker’s hit dystopian series made its home at Netflix a good few years ago, and the arrival of season five back in June only enhanced the show’s stellar reputation for thrillingly imagining and/or predicting the pitfalls of humanity’s relationship with technology. And if the regular anthology series isn’t enough to fill your boots with, then Black Mirror’s ambitious take on the choose-your-adventure genre in last year’s interactive movie Bandersnatch will keep you further occupied.

The Crown

Olivia Colman

If monarchy biopics are your jam then you’ll love The Crown. The period drama has already picked up plenty of admirers through its first two seasons, which starred Claire Foy as a young Queen Elizabeth II ascending the throne and settling into her royal duties. Olivia Colman will take on the royal role in the show’s upcoming third season, which is due on Netflix in November – leaving you plenty of time to get up to speed with all matters relating to The Crown.

13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why
13 Reasons Why will return with its third season very, very soon (Picture: David Moir/Netflix)

This hard-hitting teen drama has drawn acclaim and plenty of controversy since premiering in March 2017, with its depiction of subjects such as youth suicide, rape and attempted school shootings making the show a frequently tough watch. 13 Reasons Why is set to premiere its third season this week, and two more seasons have also been green-lit by Netflix as the show’s ability to court mass attention and debate holds firm.

Orange Is The New Black

Orange Is The New Black cast
Not much orange or black on display here, TBH (Picture: Netflix)

One of Netflix’s first smash-hit creations, Orange Is The New Black concluded for good last month after six years and seven successful seasons on the streaming service. What better time, then, to go on a binge-watch by taking in all things Litchfield Penitentiary? You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to spring a jailbreak (but don’t actually go and do that, please).

Glow

Get a glow-up with GLOW (Picture: Netflix)

Based on the real-life Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (hence the title) organisation, Glow has just made a welcome return with its third season. ‘Strong in friendship, well-rounded and complicated stories and a heck of a killer soundtrack, it’s very difficult not to fall in love with’ Glow, our recent review of season three concluded – plus, there’s plenty of kick-ass wrestling moves to admire from the cast as well.

Queer Eye

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
The Fab Five (Picture: Gavin Bond/Netflix)

Thoroughly heartwarming television is what we all need sometimes, and the good Queer Eye dudes bring that in droves. A reboot of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, the stellar work of perennial life-changing experts Antoni, Tan, Karamo, Bobby and, of course, Jonathan will make you feel just that little bit better about the world which each wholesome episode you watch.

Dark

Dark
The yellow jacket seen here is about as colourful as Dark allows itself to get (Picture: Netflix)

The first German-language original series to be commissioned by Netflix, the aptly dark and mysterious Dark recently returned with a second season that’s well worth your time. Murder, time travel and strange, strange goings-on are the order of the day, prompting clear comparisons to such shows as Stranger Things.

Disenchantment

Matt Groening‘s new adult animated comedy fantasy series Disenchantment is here. (Netflix)
Groening’s next batch of cartoon heroes? The upcoming second season may be key to their survival (Picture: Netflix)

There was plenty of hype about Matt Groening’s latest cartoon creation when it dropped on Netflix this time a year ago, but some viewers found it difficult to warm to. Still, a second season of Disenchantment is coming next month, so perhaps the slate can be wiped clean for those who didn’t take to the medieval fantasy first time round. After all, this is a show created by the man behind that little-known series The Simpsons.

Mindhunter

What to watch on Netflix if you like Line of Duty - TO BE SET LIVE FIRST THING SUNDAY MORNING A Still from Mindhunter
Prepare to face a LOT of questioning from these two (Picture: Netflix)

The new season of Mindhunter landed on Netflix only last week, meaning that, really, it should go straight to the top of your binge-watching pile. But whenever you do get round to watching the chin-stroking crime drama, which deals with the introduction of behavioural psychology in the late 1970s to early 1980s, you’ll likely become so interested in criminal investigations that you might just find yourself filling out an application to join the police.

Archer

Archer
Spies: a complicated bunch of professionals (Picture: Netflix)

The long-running satirical cartoon has been on the air for a decade now, and its latest season has just dropped on Netflix UK – taking the episode count up to a whopping 110 episodes, which is proper Netflix-binging territory. Following the adventures and mishaps of the smart-mouthed titular secret agent and his colleagues, James Bond this is not.

On My Block

ON MY BLOCK
On My Block is coming back for a third round (Picture: Netflix)

Set in LA, this charming teen drama has become something of a surprise Netflix hit since it premiered in March 2018. Critics and Netflix viewers have been united in their praise of the show, which follows the trials and tribulations of four high school-age teens growing up in a tough suburb – and, after the tense events of season two, people are very excited to hear that a third season has been commissioned.

THE END OF THE F***ING WORLD

Jessica Barden and Alex Lawther in The End of the F***ing World
Name a better Netflix duo. Go on. We’ll wait. (Picture: Clerkenwell Films / Netflix)

Finally: a bit of swearing. No, that’s not the point of THE END OF THE F***ING WORLD at all; nor is it about the apocalypse. The sleeper hit series instead focuses on young couple James and Alyssa, who, after a chance meeting at secondary school, go on the run together and fall into all sorts of misadventures, including armed robbery, police chases and, er, murder. It’s not quite as serious as it sounds, though: the razor-sharp script and brilliant chemistry between the two leads are just two aspects of its dark and dramatic comedic brilliance.

And guess what? Season one isn’t the end of their f***ing world, because more episodes are in the works. What did we tell you? Netflix will never stop making brilliant television.

Deep Water ITV cast
Deep Water has proven popular (Picture: ITV)

Set in the Lake District, and focusing on the ‘normal’ lives of three friends gone astray, Deep Water has already proven popular.

The show features Anna Friel, and is adapted from the series of books, Windermere by Paula Daly, adapted for TV by Anna Symon.

Friel’s character Lisa is a disorganised mum married to a taxi driver, while her best friends Roz and Kate are played by Sinead Keenan and Rosalind Eleazar respectively.

ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill commented: ‘It’s about three very different women on their own incredible and often shocking journeys, whose lives connect at the school gates. It’s funny, sexy, truthful and often outrageous, and should have the audience asking what they would do to hold their own family together.’

Of course, you’ll already know all of those things if you’re hooked. Here’s how long it has left.

How many episodes of Deep Water are left?

There are six episodes in total of Deep Water, with the second one being aired last night (Wednesday 21 August) at 9pm.

Each week things get more and more tense for the three women, and we’ll see their lives unravel before our eyes.

That means you have four more episodes to see the drama get even more tangled.

When is the Deep Water finale?

As the tension ramps up, you’ll be waiting to know what happens at the end.

When you choose to do that, however, is completely up to you, as the whole season is already available on the ITV Hub.

If you prefer to kick it old school and watch it when it’s actually on TV, though, it’ll be on ITV on Wednesday 18 September.

Dancing With The Stars faces huge backlash over Sean Spicer signing

Dancing With The Stars has been hit with fierce backlash over Sean Spicer’s casting.

The disgraced former White House Press Secretary will be slipping on some sequins and taking to the floor as part of the 2019 line-up.

Fans of the show – America’s answer to Strictly Come Dancing – aren’t happy that a member of President Trump’s administration is going to be larking about on a TV show.

Some are so upset they launched a #BoycottDWTS hashtag on social media.

One outraged comment read: ‘You have really reached a new low. @seanspicer is certainly no “star”. This season is a hard “pass” for me!’

‘Sorry #DWTS, I know you like to have a controversial person on, but its wayyyyy too early to have Sean Spicer on. He’s a big contributor to the current mess in the USA – maybe in 20 years after we’ve cleaned it up. But not now. Sorry, I won’t watch,’ read another tweet.

‘I — #dwts really has Sean Spicer this season? Can we not give morons like him a platform?’ said another unhappy viewer.

A further tweet read: ‘As much as I have loved #DWTS over the years, I definitely won’t be watching this season. I could have done without Sean Spicer and Ray Lewis on the show.’

‘I understand that it is good for ratings to have some controversial people on #DWTS but this is unacceptable! A PERSON WHO STOOD AT THE PODIUM OF THE WHITE HOUSE AND TOLD LIES TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
@GMA this is too much. #boycottDWTS’.

Their outraged comments come as DWTS host Tom Bergeron made what appeared to be a dig at show bosses for including Spicer, as he hoped the new season would be free from politics.

He said in a statement posted on Twitter on Wednesday, he said: ‘A few months ago, during a lunch with DWTS’ new Executive Producer, I offered suggestions for season 28. Chief among them was my hope that DWTS, in its return following an unprecedented year-long hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from ANY party affiliations.

‘I left that lunch convinced we were in agreement.

‘Subsequently (and rather obviously), a decision was made to, as we often say in Hollywood, “go in a different direction”.’

He added that he will ‘agree to disagree’ with the producer but ‘ultimately it’s their call’.

The rest of the cast includes Dawson Creek actor James Van Der Beek, supermodel Christine Brinkley and Kenan and Kel’s Kel Mitchell.

The full DWTS season 28 line up is:

Karamo Brown
Hannah Brown
Lauren Alaina
James van der Beek
Ray Lewis
Kate Flannery
Ally Brooke
Lamar Odom
Kel Mitchell
Sean Spicer
Christie Brinkley

Dancing with the Stars returns to ABC on September 16.

Bruce Lee’s daughter criticises ‘irresponsible’ Quentin Tarantino over Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Bruce Lee’s daughter has branded director Quentin Tarantino ‘irresponsible’ over his portrayal of her father in new film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

In the film, Lee – played by Mike Moh – challenges Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth to a fight on the set of The Green Hornet, and is generally portrayed as arrogant in his fighting prowess.

Bruce’s daughter, Shannon Lee, has previously criticised the depiction after Quentin stated it was based on facts, even recently telling the director to ‘shut up’.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain to hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh, Shannon explained her stance on the matter even further.

‘First of all, I think he was very irresponsible,’ Shannon said about Quentin. ‘I think he created a view of him that was a caricature in response to some of the criticism from myself and from others that I’ve heard.

‘He wants to say, “this is fact, this is what he was like but this is a fiction movie so don’t bother yourself too much about it.” It’s like, my father is very beloved by many, many people.

‘In particular he was a really big symbol for many Asian men and Asian American men in particular and he has fans all around the world who not only think he’s awesome, but are inspired by him and he was a man of depth and great character.

‘In my opinion a lot of times, people who had met him at certain times depending on who they were and in terms of their dealings with him, really mistook his confidence which he had in spades as arrogance. In particular if they were, white men in Hollywood or in the martial arts, there was a bit of a… yeah.’

Asked if she believes the film has damaged his legacy or his reputation supersedes it, Shannon said: ‘I think it’s a bit of both. I think, yes, he’s bigger than that and I do believe that.

‘However for a lot of people, this is going to be their first introduction to Bruce Lee in particular the younger generations. And they’re going to think that this is what he is, that he was this arrogant guy who liked to challenge people and nothing could be further from the truth.’

Shannon also explained how she believes it’s a repeat of the ‘belittling’ Bruce Lee faced in Hollywood before his death.

‘Absolutely,’ Shannon added. ‘I think the portrayal of him in Quentin Tarantino’s film is him being treated the way he was treated by Hollywood back in the time when he was trying to make accurate representations of Asian men in film, and he was not treated respectfully.

‘I think the way he’s portrayed is exactly in that way, belittling him.’

Simon Cowell wants to launch a global version of Britain’s Got Talent.

The music mogul wants to pit the best acts from Britain’s Got Talent against other performers from the rest of the world.

After airing The Champions versions of both the UK show and America’s Got Talent, Simon wants to bring all versions of the franchise together.

If he doesn’t call it Earth’s Got Talent we’re not interested.

‘I started thinking about maybe making it like the Olympics of Got Talent, but that would only be every four years,’ he said.

‘So now I am thinking we could do a Got Talent Champions League. So all the Got Talent shows from around the world send that year’s winner to compete against all the other winners.

Speaking to The Sun, he added that it would be ‘way more interesting’ than repeating Got Talent every year.

Simon Cowell
Simon has big plans for his Got Talent franchise (Picture: Getty)

‘There’s got to be a progression’ the X Factor judge explained.

Got Talent isn’t the only one of his babies that’s getting a revamp. The X Factor is said to be gearing up to broadcast two new versions.

All Stars will bring back former finalists to the stage that made their name, while the celebrity version is….pretty self-explanatory.

Meanwhile there’s Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions to look forward to, which airs in a few days.

Some of the acts returning to the stage that made their name have been confirmed, and they include former winners comedian Lost Voice Guy and opera singer Paul Potts.

Fan favourites Twist and Pulse and Stavros Flatley will also appear, alongside new acts from the global Got Talent franchise.

The series, which was pre-recorded at Wembley Arena, will air over six weeks, with two acts each week going through to the grand finale for the chance to compete for a cash prize and the coveted Champions Trophy.

Sadly viewers won’t get to see another epic performance from Susan Boyle, as the singer was reportedly forced to drop out at the last minute.

Britain’s Got Talent airs Saturday 31 August on ITV.

CBBC sparks furious debate as channel rank their own shows incorrectly

CBBC ranks shows
CBBC ranks their own shows and it’s wrong (Picture: CBBC)

CBBC’s social team have got a lot to answer for after sharing their own ranking of CBBC shows, and quite frankly, proving their inexperience when it comes to children’s TV shows

Or perhaps we’re just proving our age.

The Twitter account shared a graphic of their legend, top, middle and hmmm-tier shows, placing shows such as Horrible Histories, Dick And Dom In The Bungalow, MI High and The Secret Show in the legend tier.

MI what?

SMart made its way into the top tier while Chuckle Vision somehow made an appearance in the middle tier but we’re more concerned by the complete lack of respect shown to CBBC classics like Byker Grove, Grange Hill, Live And Kicking, Blue Peter, The Demon Headmaster, The Queen’s Nose and the all-time classics, Miami 7 and the spin-off LA 7?

It’s a travesty.

Acknowledging that the graphic had made a few people rather mad, the CBBC account added: ‘This is the kind of passionate debate we want!!

‘Obviously we could never choose a favourite child. We think every single show on CBBC is legend+ tier.’

Radio 1 DJ Greg James was quick to comment though, asking them politely to ‘delete your account for not giving Chuckle Vision a god-like tier of it’s own’.

‘The BBC would have died without that show. Also, you’re high if you’re putting Newsround down there. And don’t get me started on Backshall’s position. This is a disgrace.’

Fellow Radio 1 DJ Chris Stark added a gif of the cartoon Arthur, and the comment ‘Arthur just on his way round to slap whoever made this’ while BBC 5 Live’s twitter account also got in on the action, tweeting: ‘This is outside our usual remit but you’re comparing Chucklevision to a side struggling for survival when it should be a multiple Premier League champion.’

But Blue Peter presenter Lindsay Russell summed it up perfectly by simply tweeting: ‘No.’

Christopher Biggins opens up about Barbara Windsor’s battle with dementia: ‘She still has that humour’

Christopher Biggins has given an update on Barbara Windsor’s battle with dementia, explaining how she has lapses in memory.

The legendary EastEnders actress was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014, and went public with the diagnosis in May last year.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain to hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh, Biggins stated she was in good spirits despite the condition after meeting up with Barbara.

‘Well when I had lunch with her about five weeks ago in central London, she was fantastic. She was really good. She was on form and we laughed a lot.

‘I think what happens is she remembers the way, way past. But it’s things which happen on the day and the day before that are difficult for her.’

Asked if she tends to repeat questions, Biggins said: ‘Unfortunately she is yes. I think she asked me during the period of lunch about six or seven times what I was doing, and where do I live, and it was the same repeated question. That is what the saddest thing about it all.

‘It’s very tricky for her husband Scott because he lives with it all the time. It’s very frustrating.’

He added: ‘I think she’s very happy. Scott does everything, they have people to look after her, coming in to do her make-up and her hair. She’s in a very good place I think. It’s just these lapses in memory which are just awful.’

Asked if she’s aware she has dementia, Biggins replied: ‘Yes, I mean I remember when she first had it, I went round to see her at her house and I was rather cruel and said, “Hello Barbara, my name is Biggins.” And she said the f-word and we laughed a lot.

‘She still has that great sense of humour. It’s a very sad situation, as lots of people know who have friends with dementia, it’s an awful thing to have.’

Richard Madeley reveals he turned down Strictly Come Dancing: ‘I would look so stupid’

Richard Madeley has revealed he turned down Strictly Come Dancing, and it’s all because of one specific dance.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain with co-host Ranvir Singh, Richard interjected a discussion about whether men or women are better suited for dancing to discuss his own brushes with Strictly.

‘I was talking to a booker from Strictly Come Dancing the other day because, for their folly, they sometimes ask me to go on it and I always say no,’ Richard said.

‘She was saying more women celebrities say yes and it’s much harder to get male celebrities to go on and do it. I mean I wouldn’t do it because of the jive.

‘I cannot conceivably come on in spandex and lurex and do the flick kicks, I would look so stupid.’

Stupid is what the public demand, Richard. Flash those Partridge flick kicks.

A number of other celebrities have also spoken out turning down the show, including retired footballer Peter Crouch.

Great British Bake Off 2019 star Priya O’Shea already got the thumbs up from Paul Hollywood about her baking years ago.

Priya and Paul tweeted each other back in 2012 when she shared a picture of a brioche loaf she had whipped up.

Tagging Paul in her tweet, she said: ‘Good day for tea and brioche in bed!’

Paul replied ‘Great idea’ adding a friendly kiss at the end.

We have to say Paul’s got a point, who wouldn’t love a spot of tea and brioche in bed?

The exchange came five years before Priya was confirmed as a Bake Off contestant.

Viewers will see her enter the famous tent when the new series kicks off in a few days.

Priya O'Shea tweet to Paul Hollywood
Paul Hollywood sent a tweet to Priya in 2012 (Picture: Twitter)

After this year’s line-up of bakers was revealed, Priya posted on Instagram: ‘Yep. That’s me. You know, in the bake off tent wearing the bake off apron… !!!

‘Chase those dreams folks because sometimes stuff like this happens!’

The 32-year-old said she was inspired to apply by the success from former winner Nadiya Hussein.

‘I am so inspired and in awe of her, she is so accomplished. She’s just a girl next door, someone you could easily have a good conversation with,’ she said.

The bakers this year might be lucky enough to get some simpler challenges after Paul admitted he felt they had been a tough on the contestants in previous years.

NOT FOR PUBLICATION BEFORE 00:01 HRS TUESDAY 20 AUGUST 2019
Priya is one of this year’s contestants (Picture: Mark Bourdillon/Channel 4)

‘It’s been interesting to come up with some unusual things this year – the challenges I think have been scaled back a little bit,’ the TV chef said.

‘I thought sometimes we’ve been running away with some of the challenges being too difficult.’

He continued: ‘On series one, people could approach them and make them and want to enjoy making them.

‘But if you make them too difficult people will go not interested, “I was with you right up until that point and then you’ve lost me.”’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Paul’s rep for comment.

The Great British Bake Off stars 27 August at 8pm on Channel 4.

Hugh Laurie is set to star in new BBC political thriller series Roadkill.

The 60-year-old actor will play Conservative minister Peter Laurence in the four-part fictional thriller, written by award-winning screenwriter and playwright David Hare (Collateral, The Reader).

Hugh’s character is described as a ‘forceful and charismatic’ politician whose public and private life is falling apart.

A synopsis for the show reads: ‘Peter’s public and private life seems to be falling apart – or rather is being picked apart by his enemies. As the personal revelations spiral, he is shamelessly untroubled by guilt or remorse, expertly walking a high wire between glory and catastrophe as he seeks to further his own agenda whilst others plot to bring him down.

‘However events show just how hard it is, for both an individual and a country, to leave the past behind. With enemies so close to home, can Peter Laurence ever out-run his own secrets to win the ultimate prize?’

Speaking about the series, David Hare said: ‘I first worked with Hugh Laurie in 1987 when he set off on his riveting change of direction from adroit comedian to commanding dramatic actor.

‘I can’t wait to see him embody the fictional future of the Conservative party in Roadkill.’

Piers Wenger, controller of BBC drama, said: ‘Roadkill is a thriller which explores the relationship between personal morality and political power.

‘Hugh Laurie is an incredible actor who will play this fictional role with utter conviction, and it is a great honour to work once again with David Hare and The Forge to bring this brilliantly sharp and funny drama to BBC One.’

Front and centre is Molly, who previously excelled in ITV thriller Cheat, as Emma who is forced to face her past as she tries to crack an unsolved case.

The official synopsis reads: ‘When 23-year-old Emma (Windsor) returns to Scotland to take up a new position as a lab assistant at SIFA, she signs up to a MOOC – Massive Open Online Course – which teaches the principles of forensic science. But she soon discovers that the fictitious case study has a strikingly similar and shocking link to her past. As Emma’s sleuthing takes her into darker corners and unpicks more and more secrets, it becomes clear that she should trust no-one. It will be Sarah (Fraser) and Kathy’s (Spence) exacting minds that reward Emma’s faith in the science that has fuelled her imagination and who will ultimately bring a killer to justice.’

Line Of Duty's Vicky McClure and Martin Compston
Line Of Duty is one of the most watched shows in the past decade (Picture: BBC)

There is little info around about Scottish actor Martin’s character at the moment, but he was previously spotted filming scenes in Manchester.

Sans his trademark Steve Arnott beard and waistcoat, Martin went unrecognised as he walked through the set dressed in dark clothes.

The drama has an all-female production team and is written by former Coronation Street star Amelia Bullmore.

Traces airs on Alibi in December.

Susan Boyle wows America’s Got Talent fans with emotional rendition of I Dreamed A Dream again

Ten years since she first wowed crowds with a truly unexpected audition on Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle returned to the American sister-show to impress the audience with the song that made her a star.

It’s hard to believe that it was all the way back in 2009 that Susan wowed crowds at her first BGT audition – seriously, what have we even done in that time?

Taking to the stage to perform live as part of America’s Got Talent’s quarter-finals, the Scottish singer, who recently appeared on America’s Got Talent: The Champions, couldn’t look any more different from her first audition.

Wearing a stunning floor-length silver sequin dress, Susan’s soulful rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables was performed against a stunning backdrop of flames and glittering stars.

At the song’s climax, clips from Susan’s original audition, including her comments of praise from  Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell, were broadcast on the screen, serving as an emotional reminder of the 58-year-old’s journey and the power the talent show has to truly change the lives of its contestants.

As she sang her final note, the star was treated to rapturous audience applause, while all four judges, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough and of course, Simon Cowell, gave Susan a well-deserved standing ovation.

For the show’s head judge and Got Talent mogul, reuniting with the singer was always an emotional moment.

‘I swear to god it felt like 10 minutes ago. I’ll remember that audition for the rest of my life,’ Simon said of the franchise’s biggest success story, adding that the world simultaneously ‘fell in love’ with Susan and ‘hated my guts at the same time.’

There’s no-one quite like Su-Bo (Picture: NBC/BACKGRID)

It’s been all change across the pond for the Simon, with America’s Got Talent gaining new judges in the form of Julianne and Gabrielle at the same time as Simon seemed to have gained a new face.

However, the talent show judge showed that some things were never going to change, as he resumed his position as resident Mr. Nasty to brutally criticise a 13-year-old girl for her ‘terrible’ song choice.

Ouch…

The Grand Tour star Richard Hammond appears to have to got to work on his new adventure TV series.

Richard will be joined by Mythbusters star Tory Belleci for a new six-part series, in which they try to survive on a desert island.

From the looks of Tory’s latest Instagram post, the pair might have already landed.

In the pic, the presenter stands in the middle of a breathtaking dry and hot landscape, the sun beaming down behind him.

He captioned it: ‘Just another hot day in another dry lakebed.’

If he and Richard are going to get by together then they need to get cracking, it looks blazing hot out there.

Their series was announced by The Grand Tour on Instagram with a photo of the pair along with the message: ‘An epic six-part series is coming. @richardhammond and @torybelleci trying to survive on a desert island. The usual mayhem and more epic adventures to come…’

The synopsis reads: ‘Rather than sitting around waiting to be rescued, the pair decide to take matters into their own hands as they use all of their engineering and expert scientific prowess not only to survive, but to construct an out-of-this-world, paradise island playground.

‘The series follows the pair as they construct their exotic wonderland using what they have from the shipwreck and what they can find on the island.

‘The duo’s hare-brained builds will range from island hopping vehicles to a supersized hydro-power waterwheel.’

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1bsgNblPvW/?utm_source=ig_embed

Richard joked about the series: ‘Somebody needs to take hold of popular science as a genre and reinvent it for a new age. And there are only two people to do that job. Unfortunately, neither of them are available so it’s me and Tory Belleci.’

This should be good!

Meanwhile Richard will be reunited with Jeremy Clarkson and James May for a series of special road trips for the new season of The Grand Tour.

The series will air on Amazon Prime.

Gemma Collins deems James Argent’s ‘crusty’ pants ‘toxic waste’

Gemma Collins wants nothing to do with James Argent’s dirty drawers as they threw his old pants into the dirt this week.

The star had called time on her relationship with her fellow reality TV star in the latest episode of Gemma Collins Diva Forever but was given a stark reminder of her past when she found his underwear.

While cleaning out her storage unit in Essex and packing her car with more pairs of shoes than a centipede owned, she found his blue pants.

Just a non-threatening pair of dark briefs, but the GC wasn’t going to let them languish among her Louboutins.

Picking them up she threw them out into the dirt, not paying any mind as to whether Arg might want to wear them again.

For all she knew, they could have been his favourite pair.

Gemma Collins James Argent
James and Gemma are on rocky ground once more (Picture: WireImage)

She found them and said to the camera: ‘Pair of Arg’s pants. They can go straight on the floor, mate.

‘I do not want them. Can you ask Larry if he could burn them.’

She’d enlisted the help of the storage plot owner Larry to help her access her unit, but we’re fairly sure the burning of an ex-lover’s unmentionables is out of the rental agreement.

As her mate turned up to take care of business and help the GC pack her car, they trampled around the pair of pants, sitting there, sombre and forlorn, without a need to support.

The sad trunks received no sympathy from neither Gemma nor the viewers, as one of her followers dubbed them ‘crusty’ and Gemma called the things ‘toxic waste’.

Easy on now.

The two – who have been on and off for the better part of a decade – have had a rocky path that all seemed to come to an end when the Towie star called Gemma a ‘fat joke’, which just isn’t on.

The usually unshakable diva broke down in tears in last week’s episode of Diva Forever as friends and family begged her to ditch Arg after he repeatedly mocked her.

She later got a much-needed pep talk from Dawn Ward, who was left seething as she revealed the extent of Arg’s treatment towards Gemma.

‘He says to me I’m a fat joke and a car crash,’ she told Dawn. ‘He says to me “You’re only famous because you’re a fat joke.” You’re the fat girl that everyone laughs at.’

When the star’s mum asked why she stayed with him, Gemma was seen crying and admitting she was ‘petrified’ at the possibility of him leaving her.

In a moment of pure tough love, Gemma was told: ‘I don’t think James is ever going to commit to you. I’m sorry. Is he right for you? No. ‘I think he sails off the back of you, you’re scared that if you don’t do everything James wants you to do, he’ll split up with you.’

She added: ‘You know what? Do it then, and don’t waste any more time of your life.’

Dive Forever continues 9pm Wednesdays on ITVBe.

James Jordan is the bookies favourite to replace Jason Gardiner as judge on Dancing On Ice.

The 41-year-old ballroom dancer and choreographer, who won Dancing On Ice earlier this year with partner Alexandra Schauman, is tipped to take up Jason’s spot after he announced his departure from the show.

James sits with 3/1 odds on replacing Jason according to bookies Ladbrokes, while former contestant Ray Quinn is at 4/1.

Others tipped are Nicky Slater at 9/2, Anton Du Beke with 9/2, Ashley Roberts at 5/1, and Louie Spence at 6/1.

If you fancy a very outside bet, Gemma Collins has odds of 100/1 after her notorious clash with Jason in the last series.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: ‘There’s a ready-made Mr Nasty waiting to take Jason Gardiner’s place in the shape of James Jordan if the latest odds are anything to go by.’

James has a wealth of dancing experience, having been a professional on Strictly Come Dancing from 2006 to 2013.

Jason announced he wouldn’t return to Dancing On Ice in a video on Wednesday (21 August), explaining how he’s taking time out to focus on other projects.

‘After all these years I feel it’s time for me to say goodbye to my judging role and return to things I have been putting on hold and have been on the back burner for a while,’ Jason said.

‘To all of my DOI fans I really thank you for your support and encouragement over the years, I know we’ve gone through some controversies and I’m glad you got my unique judging style and honesty.

‘It’s because of you I never cowered or shied away from serving up the truth.’

Dancing On Ice will return to ITV in 2020.

Brassic star Michelle Keegan turns nose up at husband Mark Wright’s Essex habits

Michelle Keegan admits there is only one time she feels the culture clash with her husband Mark Wright.

Michelle, from Manchester, has been married to Essex lad Mark since 2015.

The Our Girl star says the only time the North-South divide gets between them is when it comes to pies.

She said on This Morning: ‘Everyone always asks me that question. I don’t feel the divide. The only thing he does is when we go for Pie and Mash, he goes for liquor and I go for the gravy.

‘A pie is meant to be with gravy. That’s the only divide.’

The 32-year-old stars in new Sky comedy Brassic as the feisty Erin, a young mum who strives for a better life.

Describing her character, Michelle said: ‘She’s a bit ballsy, feisty, a lioness.’

Host Eamonn Holmes joked that that is how Mark would describe her, to which Michelle said: ‘Oh yeah!… That was easy to slip into that role!

‘I’m from a town in Manchester – very similar, small community – everyone knows everyone, everyone knows everyone else’s business.

‘I used to work in a pub a few years ago and I remember characters coming into the pub that I could relate to. I’ve met characters in the past very similar to that [on Brassic].’

Brassic hasn’t even aired its first series yet and a second series has already been greenlit.

The former Coronation Street star confessed that she struggled to keep the news about series two a secret.

Michelle revealed: ‘We had a read-through on Monday and we went to press on Tuesday. And I was asked is there a second series and I was that close to saying. But yeah we start filming on Monday.’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.

Netflix UK in September 2019: Best new shows from The Good Place to The Politician

Netflix UK in September line-up
Here’s what’s arriving on Netflix in September (Picture: Vivian Zink/NBC)

Netflix drops a dizzying mixture of deserted island horrors and high school presidents for September.

Before we’ve locked eyes on Dark Crystal or processed Mindhunter season two’s bleak delights, Netflix continues to beam new releases into our faces to distract from our failing personal hygiene.

So what’s going to make strangers avoid sitting next to you on the bus? Here’s what you can catch on Netflix in September 2019.

The Spy – 6 September

Sacha Baron Cohen in The Spy
Sacha Baron Cohen stars in The Spy (Picture: Netflix)

After tripping up politicians on Who Is America?, Sacha Baron Cohen returns to TV for new limited series The Spy inspired by the real-life story of former Mossad agent, Eli Cohen.

It follows Cohen’s undercover mission in Syria in the 1960s, where he gains the trust of military leaders to learn secrets about Syria’s anti-Israeli initiatives. The six-part drama is a more dramatic turn for Cohen, who has proven his acting chops in the likes of Les Miserables and Hugo.

I-Land – 12 September

What happens if you mix The Hunger Games and Lost? This new thriller series might save your imagination the legwork, following ten people who wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of how they got there.

Interestingly, the marketing channels the glossy false promos for Fyre Festival. We’re not holding out hope for sharp satire though, with the latter half of the trailer leaning into more familiar horror fare.

Disenchantment Part 2 – 20 September

Disenchantment
Disenchantment is back later in September (Picture: Netflix)

The Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening’s Disenchanted proved underwhelming when the first batch of episodes released last year, so many are hoping this second outing will come out swinging with its medieval fantasy charms.

When you consider his past shows took a while to hit their stride, there’s every chance, and hope, Disenchantment could find its footing with these new episodes.

The Good Place season 4 – 27 September

The Good Place will return for its fourth and final season (Picture: Colleen Hayes/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)

Kristen Bell’s venture between heaven and hell comes to an end in The Good Place season four, which was confirmed to be the show’s last bow in June earlier this year.

Considering it’s a show based around manipulating death loops and second chances, it’ll be interesting to see where The Good Place puts its final stop. Or, you know, we’ll just watch Ted Danson steal the whole show again.

The Politician – 27 September

Ryan Murphy’s latest show might feature American Horror Story faces like Jessica Lange, but The Politician is going for a distinctive new political flavour.

Starring Ben Platt and Gwyneth Paltrow, The Politician packs all Murphy’s dramatic quirks around the political career of a high school president – all while juggling his sexuality and the treacherous minefield of political correctness.

Gorka Marquez partners up with Anton du Beke in behind-the-scenes look at Strictly

After Strictly fans across the country were surprised to learn that new dad Gorka Marquez would not be getting a celebrity dance partner on this year’s season of Strictly.

However, in the behind-the-scenes video for the new trailer, Gorka has a very special new partner: Anton du Beke!

Both wearing white shirts (Gorka’s wide open, naturally), the pair are seen practicing dancing outside together, in scenes that will likely feature in the exciting new trailer which drops online on Friday and on BBC One on Sunday.

By the looks of this video, the trailer is going to be a seriously wacky affair, with the hair, make-up and costume teams going all out on some crazy looks that make the cast of Euphoria look bare-faced in comparison.

We’ve got AJ Pritchard sporting half a face of Roy Lichtenstein, pop-art style makeup (you know, as you do), while Karen Hardy’s wears an amazing half suit, half dress outfit perfect for nipping down the shops.

Other looks see fan-favourites Oti Mabuse and Dianne Buswell sporting huge flower petals around the eyes, while Giovanni Pernice makes us all swoon (again) as he winks an eye covered in star sequins.

It’s a shame that festival season is almost over, because we’re getting some serious beauty inspo from these looks!

With rehearsals kicking off for the pros at the end of July, we can feel their excitement radiating through the screen as they wait to find out who their new celebrity partners will be.

‘We’re back, all together again,’ Australian redhead Dianne says, ‘it’s Strictly Come Dancing 2019!’

God, we’re so excited!

With our fifteen celebrity contestants announced in August, we’re still yet to officially hear which Strictly pros will be getting a partner this year.

For the boys, it looks like Neil Jones and Johannes Radebe may finally be stepping up the plate and replacing Gorka and Graziano Di Prima, both of whom revealed on Wednesday that they would only be performing in group numbers this year.

On the girls’ side, we’ve got new professional dancer Nancy Xu, while Luba Mushtuk is also yet to have danced with a celeb partner on the show.

With more male celebrities appearing on the show than female this year, who will get to compete? Only time will tell.

David Attenborough fans are in for a treat as the wildlife is set to do what he does best and narrate a new documentary for the BBC.

However, the subject matter of this one is going to be shocking and probably disturbing as it focuses on extinction and the ‘fragile’ state of our planet.

Extinction: The Facts is a one hour feature that will follow a World Wildlife Fund report that suggests that populations of animals, birds and fish have shrunk by 60% in four decades.

BBC’s factual commissioning controller Alison Kirkham said: ‘Our audience has a hunger to understand how these urgent environmental issues affect them.’

According to the broadcaster, Extinction: the Facts will go ‘beyond our emotions to investigate what the extinction crisis means, not just for the planet but for every one of us’.

‘World-leading scientists will explore why species are disappearing at such an alarming rate and will ask what that means for humanity.’

We’re listening, David.

A release date for the film has yet to be announced, but in the meantime, fans can look forward to the 92-year-old’s other upcoming series, Seven Worlds, One Planet.

This series will see the national treasure explore Africa, Europe, Australasia, Asia, North America, South America and Antarctica.

David spoke at Glastonbury this summer, giving a hint about what Seven Worlds, One Planet will entail.

This is the story of those seven worlds,’ he said.

‘We will see how life developed on each continent and so gave lives to the extraordinary and wonderful diversity we know today.

‘And we will see why this precious diversity is being lost.

‘There are seven great continents on which we human beings live. ‘Each of them has its own marvellous creatures; birds, mammals, animals of all kinds.

‘Each of them has its own glory, each of them has its own problems.’

David Attenborough’s Extinction: The Facts is in production for BBC One.
