Downton Abbey has just made a successful migration from the small to silver screen – and it seems Peaky Blinders could be about to follow its lead.
The hit BBC show about Birmingham-based gangsters could one day have a movie spin-off, its writer has said.
Speaking at Peaky Blinders: The Legitimate Festival in Birmingham this week, Steven Knight said: ‘I’m writing series six at the moment. That’s almost done.
‘Then I’m going to do series seven, then I’m looking at spin-offs, maybe a movie. It’s up to us. It’s up to the people involved.’
However, Knight ruled out a prequel because ‘you can’t kill a character who can show up in the series.’

Knight also ruled out giving a cameo to Peaky Blinders super fan Liam Gallagher, after the Oasis icon made a surprise appearance at the festival.
‘What I’m trying to not do is populate the scene with people who are known for other things, because I think it’s quite distracting,’ he explained.
‘In terms of appearances we’ve always had a lot of incoming interest,’ he added.
On how Liam came to attend the event in Digbeth, Knight explained: ‘He said, “If you do my video, I’ll do the festival.”’
Knight’s clarification comes after Liam tweeted earlier this month: ‘I’m of [sic] to meet a man about a part in Peaky Blinders Why me Why not see ya.’
Peaky Blinders of course stars Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby; other cast members include Helen McCrory and Paul Anderson.
Meanwhile, Tom Hardy appeared in a supporting role in series 2-4, playing Alfie Solomons.
Peaky Blinders continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.

Tommy Shelby heads to visit a mysterious friend at an asylum in tonight’s Peaky Blinders – but just who is it, and what does the mobster want from them?
The hardnut gangster (Cillian Murphy) is seen being brushed down by a guard, who checks his pocket and forces him to remove his coat and hat ‘for his own safety’ in the dark and dingy ward.
We’re in 1929 after all – a world that hasn’t quite understood mental health the way we do today, and the warden even proclaims the mystery prisoner as a ‘f***ing animal’ as he talks to Tommy.
It’s obvious that the man is definitely a massive creep, giving Tommy a pat down a bit too close for comfort against a wall before making comments on Tommy’s watch, before putting it back in his pocket.
But whoever is in that cell, clearly means a lot to our leading man, who declares him a ‘friend’ much to the disgust of the person leading him to where his pal is locked up.
‘He’s nobody’s friend anymore,’ the man coldly tells Tommy. ‘He’s a f***ing animal.’
Who has Tommy gone to see? (Picture: Caryn Mandabach Productions Ltd)
Taking the laces from Tommy’s shoes, the man then leads him down a series of dark tunnels, with a sign declaring ‘asylum for the insane’ hanging above the gate.
With little light, and screaming patients, the ‘doctor’/’guard’ taunts a man known as Barney through a door, declaring he has a friend and ‘this one’s real’.
Who is Tommy going to see and why ? (Picture: BBC)
Clearly done with the brutish behaviour of the guard, Tommy asks to spend time alone with Barney, giving him money to go away.
‘It’s your funeral. I’ll have to lock you in,’ he’s sinisterly told, to which Tommy agrees.
Who is Barney and what does Tommy have in store for him? More so, why does he need the privacy away from the prying eyes of the least helpful man in the world?
Whatever it is, we know it’s not going to be for something good.

RuPaul looking fierce at last night’s Emmys (Picture: Getty)
Can we get an Amen up in here, because RuPaul has won the Best Reality Host Emmy for the fourth year in a row.
The TV veteran won the gong (officially titled Emmy for outstanding host for a reality or competition program) at the Microsoft Theater in LA last night.
Accepting the award, he said: ‘Oh my goodness, wow. That was very sweet of you… really, really lovely.’
Speaking on stage, he reflected on how the show encourages acceptance ‘for all the kids who dance to the beat of a different drummer’.
Ru dedicated his award win to late RPDR producer Jacqueline Wilson.

Last week, Call My Name singer Cheryl spoke about her stint as a guest judge on the show, saying: ‘I was star struck recently by RuPaul.’
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Chezza explained: ‘I did the UK version of Drag Race. It was brilliant, I was thoroughly entertained the whole time but I was so star struck by Ru, I find him utterly fascinating. I had the best time.’
Other guest judges to look forward to include Spice Girl Geri Horner and Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall.
Meanwhile, Ru has said in a new interview with The Times that he wants Meghan Markle to be a guest judge on the show in the future.
‘The invitation is still open for season 2,’ he said. ‘Meghan’s arrival in the Royal Family marks a whole new era. I like the way she challenges the norm.’
We can totally see this happening.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions viewers were left fuming at David Walliams for snubbing magician Richard Jones and not giving him his golden buzzer.
Weaving in tales of his life as a soldier and his friendship with Fergus, viewers at home were brought to a standstill as they watched the magician show off a trick involving a pocket watch.
However, the one off golden buzzer, which per Champions rules could have only been triggered by David Walliams that evening, wasn’t pressed down.
He later pressed it instead for 85-year-old Nicko and her dance partner Paddy, who performed a series of daring moves that left David beaming.
Instead, the live audience of Wembley were tasked with picking one of the other nine remaining performers to send to the finals.
The emotional tribute to his friend landed Richard in the top two performers of the evening – only for him to be knocked out at the last hurdle by fellow magician Darcy Oake, who performed an escapist trick that saw him get out of an exploding box.

Viewers were not happy about the outcome at all, and laid the blame on David for failing to give him an automatic ticket through to the finale.
While Richard may have missed out on the finals, Darcy Oake and Paddy and Nicko will now go through to see who will be crowned champion of Champions.
Whoever they may be also walked away with a boosted £100,000 prize.
Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions continues next Saturday on ITV.

There’s only one week to go before the first Strictly Come Dancing live show – and it’s safe to say the cast are feeling the pressure.
A first look clip from last night’s Strictly Come Dancing: The Professionals revealed that there has already been some clashes among the celebs and their pro partners.
While some are struggling to get the hang of things, others are feeling the heat to get their act together in time for their first dance next week.
Although none of them are going to be eliminated in week one (as per tradition), it’s clear that everyone is taking the challenge seriously.
While it starts off all smiles and hugs in the brief montage, things soon go south with Dev Griffin feeling like he’s got too left feet and Catherine Tyldesley admitting the nerves were getting to her.
Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice are also seen snapping at each other in frustration as they struggle to get a move right.
‘We’re back in school. It’s unbelievable,’ Michelle is later seen telling the cameras.
The Strictly stars have the pressure on! (Picture: Instagram)
James Cracknell is also seen wearing a brace to improve his posture after years of being in a rowing boat.
Someone who appears to have nailed it though is last-minute entry Kelvin Fletcher, who is seen high-fiving dance partner Oti Mabuse as they nail a number of signature moves.
Seeing as he only came in at the last moment, it’s clear that Oti is not letting a minute go by where they’re not making up for lost time…and he’s nailing it.
James has been forced to wear a backbrace to improve his posture (Picture: Backgrid)
While it’s not been revealed what everyone is dancing to just yet, a couple of Strictly behind-the-scenes clips online have revealed that most of the cast are opting for a Cha Cha Cha.
Anneka Rice and Kevin Clifton; Chris Ramsey and Karen Hauer; Viscountess Emma Weymouth and Aljaz Skojanec and Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden are all giving the latin dance a go.
Alex Scott and Neil Jones are doing a quickstep, while Catherine Tyldesley and Johanne Radebe are Vienesse Waltz-ing.
David James and Nadiya Bychkova are giving the foxtrot a go, and Mike Bushell is teaming up with Katya Jones for a jive.
Strictly Come Dancing launches Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.

BGT comedian Jack Carroll has joked that Alesha Dixon’s had Botox and her reaction was priceless.
Comic Jack Carroll’s return to Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions ruffled judge Alesha Dixon’s feathers last night as he joked about her having comestic injections.
Awkward.
The 20-year-old – who was 14 when he first appeared on the show – implied that both Alesha and co judge Amanda Holden had had the treatment.
‘Six years since I was on the show, and I look six years older,’ he said. ‘It’s funny because Alesha and Amanda look 10 years younger.’
A pleased Amanda responded ‘I’ll take that’, while Alesha added: ‘Thanks Jack.’

However, he then continued: ‘I’m sure they’d frown at that joke but the Botox won’t allow it.’
Looking visibly annoyed, Alesha shot back: ‘I’ve never had it. Sorry.’
Meanwhile Amanda, who has been open about trying Botox, kept quiet.
At the end of Jack’s act, Alesha was reportedly overheard saying: ‘I don’t remember him being so vicious.’
‘I know, I love it,’ replied Amanda.

One fan said on Facebook: ‘Aleasha [sic] didn’t like that botox jibe [sic].’
Another added: ‘Hit a nerve I think.’
One other viewer said on Twitter: ‘Ironic, as too much Botox would mean that she can’t look anything but shocked.’
The gags come as Simon Cowell recently told the Mirror: ‘I love watching “the Botox years”. All of us are like, “Christ, we had a lot that year. Not so much that year… maybe a bit too much that year.”
‘You know, the old clips of us are hysterical, Amanda’s always like, “What was I thinking?”, I said, “Well, I don’t look a lot better.”‘
Jack originally came second on the show back in 2013.
Jack is back! (Picture: ITV)
He has called his return to the show a way of saying ‘cheers’ to the show that launched his career.
‘It’s the sort of capacity Britain’s Got Talent has in order to change ordinary people’s lives and put them out into the public consciousness,’ said Jack, who has cerebral palsy.
Since then the star has gone on to front his own Live At The Apollo and appear in TV comedy Trollied.
It’s good to have you back Jack.

Knight told BBC News that main man Murphy has committed to the cast, revealing: ‘We’ve talked to Cillian Murphy and he’s all for it, and the rest of the principal cast are in for it.’
Speaking to Slate, he also said the show “has its own logic and momentum”, adding: ‘Right now, it feels as if the characters are just writing themselves.’
The characters and plot are based around a notorious urban gang that roamed the streets of Birmingham in the aftermath of the late-19th century poverty rife in working-class Britain.

Take note, aspiring creatives: Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has some truly inspiring words of wisdom for you.
Taking to Instagram ahead of the upcoming new season, the star shared a discarded scene from the first episode, to make a point about hard work and perseverance.
‘These two children shot a lot of home movies before they landed on Sunny,’ he said.
‘Even this bizarre interaction – which was an early pass on what would become a scene in our first episode – was worked and reworked and reworked.
‘We shot a version of this scene four or five times. All that is to say… Just make stuff. It probably won’t be very good at first. Make it better. That’ll probably suck too. Fix it. Then throw it out because it’s most likely trash. Then make something else. Garbage. Toss it. Do it better.’
He finally concluded: ‘The important thing is to recognise that’s it’s never perfect so it’s never done. Everyone else will give up when it sucks, so just…don’t. Please don’t. We need new voices.’
Rob of course plays Mac on the show. His other screen roles include ER and Fargo.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia also stars Charlie Day, Danny DeVito and Glenn Howerton.
When the show returns, it’ll tie with ABC’s The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running live action comedy series ever.
Meanwhile, The Simpsons is the longest-running scripted TV series in history.
Season 14 of It’s Always Sunny airs on 25 September.

‘It would be my dream to do the jungle,’ she added. ‘I’ve made no qualms about that. It’s such an iconic show.’
Olivia, 26, rose to fame on the third season of Love Island, which aired in 2017. She recently made an explosive debut on The Only Way Is Essex, with fans branding her ‘the best thing to happen to Towie’.
The reality star originally made a cameo on Towie with footballer boyfriend Bradley Deck back in April, when she attended an Easter-themed garden party on the show.
She’s practically taking over ITV. Respect.

‘I think if I got to go on the show I would surprise people. I’m more of a tomboy than people think.

Unbelievable tells the story of a teenager treated badly by police (Picture: Netflix / Beth Dubber)
Netflix‘s new series, Unbelievable, follows the harrowing story of Marie Adler (Kaitlyn Dever), an 18-year-old from Washington who claimed in 2008 to have been tied up and raped in her bedroom.
A vulnerable teenager going through the kind of torment no young woman should have to experience, Adler goes from one foster home to the next and suffers the indignity of being treated with suspicion by the police officers she confides in.
The show is less about what happened than the way rape claims are viewed by authorities and a society as a whole.
Only the intervention of two detectives, Rasmussen (Toni Collette) and Duvall (Merritt Wever), changes the course of the story.
Working in Colorado and Denver, their work begins to draw similarities between a calculated string of attacks by a serial rapist, carried out by breaking into homes and taking photos of the victims.
But is it based on a true story? Here’s what you need to know…
What is Unbelievable about and how was Marie Adler treated unfairly?
The eight-part series is indeed based on a true story – and Dever, who depicts the story of Adler as she changes and then withdraws her story under unforgiving scrutiny, feels a strong sense of injustice for her character.
The Los-Angeles based star of hit coming-of-age film Booksmart has spoken out in the build-up to her latest release, saying: ‘Marie got interviewed several times and I think it was like she was being attacked over and over again.
‘I think it’s really important to see Marie’s story but also to see the collective perspective.
‘The system did fail Marie because they were treating her interviews like interrogations. They were treating her like a suspect instead of a victim, and that’s heartbreaking.’
What is the story behind Unbelievable?
Netflix’s dark drama is adapted from an article by the US investigative site ProPublica, written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong and originally titled An Unbelievable Story of Rape.
The investigation won a prestigious Pulitzer Prize, awarded for exceptional examples of journalism.
Adler endures a succession of unsympathetic interviews in the drama (Picture: Netflix)
The article revealed how Duvall and Rasmussen painstakingly pieced their evidence together three years after Adler had come forward.
It took until December 2011 for an army veteran, Marc O’Leary (given the name of Christopher McCarthy in the series) to be found guilty of 28 counts of rape in Colorado, as well as two in Washington State – one of which was Marie.
He was sentenced to more than 327 years in prison for his crimes.
Images of Marie were found on O’Leary’s computer, as well as pictures of his other victims in Colorado.
The film explores how she was betrayed by those around her and the immediate investigating team.
She eventually received numerous apologies when the scale of her ordeal was evidenced, suing the city for a settlement of £150,000.
Toni Collette (right) forms a detective duo with Merritt Wever (Picture: Netflix/Beth Dubber)
What does Toni Collette say about the story Unbelievable is based on?
Collette, who follows in the footsteps of the detective work that identified marks on O’Leary’s body and vehicle, says: ‘It seems to have been the case, in the past, that cops were sort of looking out for cracks in the story to have this ‘a-ha!’ moment – ‘you’re busted, you made this up.’
‘When all of these women start coming forward, you realise just how collective it is, how common it is and how frightening it is.’
According to reports Marie is a long-haul trucker and is married with two children.
Downton Abbey gets a royal visit as the long-awaited film is released (Picture: Universal)
Downton Abbey fans have finally had the chance to see the cast back onscreen in all their glory with the release of the show’s spin-off movie.
The Downton Abbey film was released in UK cinemas on Friday, and sees the Crawleys getting ready for royalty as they prepare to welcome the King and Queen to their home.
The movie might of course have left you wanting to catch up on the long-running series if you’ve not seen it – or just relive all those episodes for yourself.
NOW TV has a seven-day free trial of the Entertainment Pass available, so you can watch the entire thing for nothing if you’re prepared to squeeze in some serious binge-watching – after that it’s £7.99 a month.
Is the Downton Abbey movie available online?
Not yet, as it’s only just been released in cinemas – so you’ll have to wait a while for it to appear on DVD or a streaming platform.
It’s not yet been confirmed which streaming services it will be released on – so keep those eyes peeled on Amazon Prime and Netflix for news.
Who is in the cast of the Downton Abbey movie?
You’ll see a lot of familiar faces in the Downton movie (Picture: ITV)
Meanwhile other cast members include Simon Jones as King George V and Geraldine James as Queen Mary, along with David Haig as the royal butler, Philippe Spall as the Royal Chef and Kate Phillips playing Mary, the King and Queen’s daughter.
However two characters who aren’t returning are Lily James and Ed Speelers, who played Lady Rose and Jimmy Kent in the show.
Speaking to People magazine Lily explained: ‘My character Rose moved off to New York, so it would be farfetched to bring her back.’
‘I would have loved to have come back for a scene, but for a movie it can’t be like a Christmas special and it needs to be a focused storyline’, she said, adding, ‘There was no space for Rose.’

A Top Boy showrunner has confirmed that they’re already preparing for a second series on Netflix and yes, Christmas has well and truly come early.
Ahead of the latest season dropping onto the streaming service on Friday, writer Ronan Bennett told Metro.co.uk that we could be seeing the likes of Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kane Robinson) once more.
Let’s just hope it’s not another six-year wait, eh?
‘We want to do a new season and we’re talking to Netflix about it,’ Ronan revealed. ‘We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve all achieved with the new season.
‘Sometimes you write something for screen and it just doesn’t come out as well as you’d hoped even though all the individual parts are good, but somehow when they’re all together they just don’t gel. This is different.’
Talking about the latest chapter, Ronan continued: ‘I think the new season is brilliant, I really do. We don’t want to sit on our laurels.
Another season of Top Boy could be on the cards (Picture: Netflix)
‘We have our core and we have the characters and the world, but we also want to refresh it with staying true to what our fans love about the show, but also expanding the world and surprising them.
‘That’s the ambition going forward.’
Although a second series has yet to be confirmed, Netflix usually announces a show has been recommissioned two months after it has launched.
We last saw Sully and Dushane causing havoc back in 2013 before the show was canned by Channel 4.
Talking about why Top Boy was cancelled, Ronan told us that the broadcaster didn’t give them ‘one clear reason.’
Top Boy is available to stream on Netflix.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions illusionist Darcy Oake wowed audiences and the judges alike with his box stunt on last night’s episode.
But some eagle-eyed viewers think they’ve worked out how he pulled off the trick.
Darcy, 27, began the stunt by being handcuffed and locked in a box raised 20 feet in the air, with lit fuses hanging from it.
The magician then had 56 seconds to free himself until the box exploded.
After completing the challenge Simon Cowell led the praise, calling Darcy ‘the ultimate showman.’
He added: ‘I don’t know what quite happened here. But I have got to tell you Darcy that apart from being a great guy, a true competitor, you are the ultimate showman.
What did you make of Darcy’s trick? (Picture: REX)
‘I mean every time you come on it blows my mind. Unbelievable. And you are so good looking.’
Calm down, Simon.
However, some people weren’t quite so impressed.
‘The footage in the box was pre-recorded!’ claimed one audience member on Twitter.
Another added: ‘He had left the box through a trap door or sideflap on box before that countdown clock started. The clock and darkness were a distraction.’
Audiences loved Darcy’s act (Picture: REX)
A third said: ‘There was somebody already in the box… why did he let ant put one cuff on him… when he appeared the other side of the arena he still had the same cuff on the same hand??? [sic]’
And the theories only get more surprising.
‘He has an identical twin,’ said a fourth viewer. ‘The one that came on at the end had a freckle on his neck. I rewound and the first one didn’t.’
Then there was this deep dive explanation from a fifth: ‘The box is obviously rigged. The bit that is left hanging looks like it had a secret flap which was opened so he could escape via the back on a ramp or bridge hidden from camera and audience via black lighting etc. When the explosion happens the box flips forward closing the flap.
‘He looked out of breath when he was on the podium at the end so had to run in between his escape to the end bit. That’s my theory anyway. Amazing though takes skill to escape the handcuffs. Great showman. And fit too.’
The jury’s out!

Dannii Minogue said: ‘I was not at breaking point, I was broken’ (Picture: Rex/Getty)
Dannii Minogue has admitted that she almost packed in her TV career after her time as a judge on The X Factor left her ‘woefully unhappy’.
The Australian singer served as a judge on the British singing show for four years from 2007-2010, mentoring both Leon Jackson and Matt Cardle to victory in the competition.
However, Dannii, who is set to appear on The Masked Singer in her homeland of Australia in September, revealed that she was miserable while working on the British reality show.
‘I was not at breaking point, I was broken,’ Kylie’s little sis told Australian publication The Herald Sun.
‘There were a lot of people conspiring to make that happen and it brought a lot of people enjoyment to see me so under the pump.’
For the star, who famously feuded with Sharon Osbourne on the show’s fourth series, it all became too much to handle, saying: ‘I get that it is a TV show, it is entertainment, there is quite a game involved with the business but you have to be fair and it just got to the point where I was so unhappy.’

During one live show, Dannii broke down in tears, asking her fellow judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl to take over as she ‘couldn’t even introduce her next act’.
However, while in 2019 most criticism would come from social media, Dannii revealed that having an online presence allowed her to defend herself and ultimately saved her career.
‘Social media giving people the chance to have their say and have their right of reply really changed everything,’ she said.
‘Had those things not happened there is no way I would have ever continued to work in the public eye.’
Fortunately for us, Dannii didn’t throw the towel in and will be judging the upcoming Aussie series of The Masked Singer alongside Jackie O Henderson, Dave Hughes and, um… Lindsay Lohan. Yep, that one.
Either way, we’re sure Dannii will take her under her wing.

Chris thinks Joel Dommett paved the way for stand-up stars on reality TV (Picture: Avalon/Rex)
Chris Ramsey thinks Joel Dommett’s stint on I’m A Celebrity was a game-changing moment for stand-up comedians and their crossover to reality competitions.
Despite promising himself a year off, the dad-of-one is about to end 2019 with a stint on Strictly Come Dancing, following topping the charts with podcast Sh*gged, Married Annoyed, and filming new stand-up special for Amazon, Approval Needed.
(So much for ‘year off’ but there you go!)
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Chris admitted that he was a little worried about the reaction among other stand up stars, but has shocked by the support from fellow comedians.
‘It’s been really nice, I got so many texts when I got announced and you kind of think that as a stand-up it would be a bit sneery,’ the South Shields native told us.
‘I thought it would be like “oh-ah, you gotta go and do a dancing competition eh? You can’t do jokes!” but it’s not like that at all.’
He now reckons that it might have something to do with Joel Dommett, whose career took off after a stint on I’m A Celeb as a relative unknown back in 2016. Now, he’s still touring the UK but is also host on a number of ITV2 shows, including most recently, Singletown.
‘Since Joel Dommett went into the jungle, he kind of changed the rules a little bit,’ Chris declared.
‘You can do other things. You’re a comedian first and foremost but you can do things, you can be a presenter, you can be a personality, you can be an actor,’ he said. ‘You can be whatever.’
Chris is about to show off his Twinkle Toes on Strictly (Picture: PA)
Chris is due to make his live show debut with pro partner Karen Hauer on 21 September, competing for the first time on the Strictly dancefloor – and with his trademark wit, he reckons she’s got her work cut out for her.
‘I would’ve been happy with any one of them pro dancers to be partnered with, because they’re all incredible,’ he told us of rehearsals. ‘Watching them perform when we did our sort of group dance together, it was genuinely demoralising, because they’re so good.
‘I know I’m going to be holding [Karen] back, I know they’re at the top of their game and they have to drag my sorry a**e around the dance floor on live telly. What have they done in the past lives to deserve that in their profession?!’
No matter what the outcome with Strictly, Chris has vowed to stick with stand up comedy, and told us: ‘I’m a stand-up comedian first and foremost, I’m definitely not a professional dancer…yet!’.
‘Always for me, [I hope for] bigger tours, bigger numbers. I always want to get better as a comedian. But Strictly is basically something, I know it will get us out there to a bigger audience, but it’s also really fun.
‘I know it’s a once in a lifetime experience,’ he added. ‘And I know my wife’s really jealous that we’re doing it so that’s an added bonus as well!’
Approval Needed is out now on Amazon (Picture: Avalon)
If nothing else, it could make for some cracking stand-up material – with Chris open about everything from spats with his wife Rosie, to a time he was almost killed by a seagull (kind of) in his latest offering.
But Chris admits that he’s become used to worrying ‘is this it?’ when it comes to creating new stand-up, and he told us: ‘‘Every couple of years, every tour in your head, every show you write, in your head there’s a part of your brain in your head going “well that was your last one”. Every time in your head, it’s crazy.
‘But you’ve got to remind yourself that like, there’s no point in life where I’m thinking “Oh, i’m never going to have another conversation with another human again because there’ll be nothing to talk about” or you know, nothing’s going to happen, or I’m never going to laugh again because I’ve heard everything.
‘Life is so much, I don’t want to sound like I’m going to burst into song, but life, and the stuff I talk about, is a rich tapestry of life and experiences and I’ve got a kid and got a wife, and everything that happens is ripe for comedy,’ he added. ‘Most things, not everything, but most things are ripe for comedy. You can wring comedy out of things that you thought would never come.’
‘So when the surface stuff runs out, there’s stuff deeper as well, so you know it’ll be fine,’ Chris said.
He then added: ‘Plus my wife’s hilarious and she always says ridiculous stuff.’

Catherine Tyldesley is really getting into rehearsals (Picture: PA)
Strictly Come Dancing’s Catherine Tyldesley has revealed that dance rehearsals are encouraging her to love her body as she gets ready for the first week in the competition.
The former Coronation Street star has been busy in rehearsals with pro dancer Johannes Radebe and admitted that the intense practice process was helping her let go of her body hang-ups and encouraging her to be more self-confident.
‘Ordinarily I completely shy away from having anybody looking at my body or anything like that,’ she told the Daily Star.
‘But the rehearsals we’ve been doing have been so much fun.’
The 35-year-old continued: ‘Within an hour of the first day, I was thinking, “I don’t care what I look like, I’m just going for it.” I’m a sweaty mess, I’m jiggling around all over the show, but you’ve just got to go for it.’
Having lost a significant amount of weight before landing her regular role in Corrie in 2011, the actress revealed that dancing and rehearsing on Strictly was allowing her to reconnect with and love her body.

‘This experience is almost a celebration of your body,’ she said. ‘That’s how I feel.
‘I’ve shied away from stuff like this for so long, [so] doing this show is a huge thing for me, but at the same time it’s liberating.’
With just one week until the first show (how are we there already?!), Catherine brought her four-year-old son Alfie down to rehearsals as a good luck charm, where he was swung around by the South African dancer.
‘Day 4… @johannesradebe finds a new partner,’ Cath wrote on Instagram. So cute!
Strictly Come Dancing starts Saturday 21 September at 7pm on BBC One.

Jenny Ryan has a soft spot for Kevin Clifton, it seems (Picture: Getty/PA)
He’s won many Strictly viewers’ hearts – plus Stacey Dooley’s, of course – and it seems Kevin Clifton has another big fan in The Chase’s Jenny Ryan.
Yes, Jenny has hinted on social media she has a crush on Kevin.
Well, she’s only human.
The quiz expert implied she has a soft spot for the star on Twitter after Kevin made an appearance on her TV show while she wasn’t there.
Kevin, who won last year’s series of Strictly alongside now-girlfriend Stacey, went up against Mark Labbett, also known as ‘The Beast’ on the general knowledge show.
Reacting on Twitter, brainbox Jenny said: ‘NB I wasn’t allowed to be the Chaser on this episode as producers wouldn’t risk having me in the same room as
@keviclifton.’
She added a cry-laughing emoji for effect.

One fan responded: ‘Hmm so you fancy him a bit then?’
We think that’s probably a safe assumption.

Another said: ‘I’m guessing The Clifton rocks your boat then, Vixen?’
A third added of their own crush: ‘That would be me and @AljazSkorjanec to be honest.’

Kevin, who is now in a relationship with documentary maker Stacey, is paired with TV presenter Anneka Rice on this year’s show.
The star recently hit back at reports he was angry about the pairing, tweeting: ‘Oh it’s ridiculous I just laugh nowadays. As usual a completely made up story.’
The first live show of Strictly Come Dancing 2019 airs on BBC One next Saturday 21 September.

Piers and Susanna are about to celebrate their four-year on-air anniversary (Picture: Rex Features)
They’re arguably the two most formidable forces on morning television, however Piers Morgan has revealed the underlining tension between himself and Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid in the early days of their on-air partnership.
The two have helmed the ITV show together since 2015, and in a fresh interview the two have detailed they didn’t always get along.
In fact, the simmering tension between them spilled over into a drunken conversation that saw them behave ‘appallingly’ as they cleared the air.
Insisting his aim was to ‘shake up’ his colleague, admitting he was an alpha male and she was a queen bee, Piers told Event Magazine he may have had gone ‘too far’.
They then fell out after she was ‘pilloried’ over the things he said on TV, with viewers claiming she wasn’t a feminist.
Saying she couldn’t believe she was getting attacked for what Piers had said, finding the whole thing ‘deeply upsetting’, Susanna continued: ‘He is the most irritating man in the world, but I’m a professional.

‘I can work with anyone, but it was a shock to the system, and I did find it difficult to sit there trying to be neutral in my opinions while Piers spouted forth about whatever he thought, and then I would be attacked for it.’
They ended up thrashing it out over many a drink, as per Susanna’s suggestion, with Piers admitting they perhaps acted a little wild during that discussion.
He said: ‘Basically we got drunk in The Groucho Club and behaved appallingly. Then we went off to a load of gay bars in Soho and got even more drunk. And everything got sorted out.’
Susanna admitted her views were more ‘neutral’ before working with Piers, however she learned to speak up for herself and assert her opinions alongside the former newspaper journalist.
‘I’ve definitely changed,’ she said. ‘Working with him has changed the way I am. But we’ve just got to know each other better and understand each other more.’
Piers himself added he became a little more sensitive to other views, as he added: ‘It’s like learning to dance. You have missteps but when you get it right it really works, and the best dances are when you can never quite work out who is leading, because each takes turns at leading the other.’
Now? Well, according to Piers, if they were both single they’d ‘be at it like stoats in a sack’.
Good Morning Britain airs 6am weekdays on ITV.

It’s been six years but Top Boy is finally back on our screens with some new faces joining Dushane and the gang.
Simbiatu Abisola Abiola Ajikawo aka Little Simz and Micheal Ward have both been welcomed into the cast of the Netflix rivival as carer Shelley and drug dealer Jamie, but they were originally lined up for very different roles.
‘I initially auditioned for my younger brother on the show which was Aaron,’ Micheal told Metro.co.uk, with the character now being played by Hope Ikpoku Junior.
‘I came back for a recall, smashed it and then the casting director from block one to three, Raymond Green, and the producers were there and they said, “Can you come in tomorrow and read for the lead, which is Jamie?”.
‘At that point, I didn’t think I’d be able to do something like that because of his nature. I’m not like that naturally.’
He continued: ‘Anyway, it was a daunting experience. When I came back, I did it and then the next step was the chemistry reading. After that, I got the call and I just couldn’t believe it.’

Little Simz has joined the Top Boy cast (Picture: Netflix)
Meanwhile, producer Alasdair Flind revealed that Little Simz was going to play a much minor part in the series – until she auditioned in front of casting director Des Hamilton.
He told us: ‘Kane mentioned Simz and said she’s got something as an actor and we originally thought of her for a very small role, as a singer in Jamaica I think.
‘And then we put her in front of Des [Hamilton] and immediately, we were like, “Oh my God, she’s fantastic.” It grew from there really.’
Explaining about the direction of the gritty crime drama, Ronan Bennett added: ‘We have our core and we have the characters and the world, but we also want to refresh it with staying true to what our fans love about the show, but also expanding the world and surprising them.
‘That’s the ambition going forward.’
Top Boy is available to stream on Netflix.
