Stranger Things season 4 is coming: Here’s everything we know about The American so far

Who is the American and what does it mean? (Picture: Netflix)

It’s official – Stranger Things 4 is on its way soon – so we can get hyped now (like we weren’t doing that anyway).

We have a lot of questions after the end of season three, but the biggest we have before the new episodes is, just who the hell is The American?

So, we’ve gone digging to see what’s been said so far, what’s been confirmed, and just who the American might be.

In the end credits scene, our hopes were raised just that little bit more when it was revealed that the Russians had an unidentified American as their prisoner.

Could Hopper actually be alive, and a captive, after all?

Here’s everything we know so far…

***Warning: Season three spoilers ahead***

Hopper - Stranger Things 3
Hopper’s fate is one of the many question season 4 of Stranger Things will have to answer (Picture: Netflix)

Is Hopper The American?

Viewers were heartbroken in the season three finale as Jim Hopper (David Harbour) sacrificed himself in order to save Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Joyce (Winona Ryder) and the entire town of Hawkins.

Giving a tearful, knowing nod to Joyce who was keeping a portal open for him as they fought against the Russians, he was zapped into the unknown – and from everyone’s faces, he appeared he was a goner.

But you know the old saying – no body, no death. So he is high on everyone’s list for who the American could be.

Some have even theorised that the other side of the portal was actually the Russian lab that ‘The American’ is being held up in, and seeing as they weren’t expecting him to come through it, locked him away until they came up with a plan.

The Hopper/Han Solo Connection

Adding further fuel to the fire that Hopper is only temporarily gone, showrunner Matt Duffer confirmed Hopper’s story arc was based on Han Solo’s in Star Wars.

Specifically, Empire Strikes Back – where Han was left in suspended animation and could’ve been killed, but came back fighting.

Just before it happens, Princess Leia says ‘I love you’ to which he responded ‘I know’.

Assuming their final glance at each other was representative of this before Hopper’s sacrifice, will the plot continue?

‘We always talk about Empire Strikes Back, we always wanted to give him a darker ending, we always wanted to give him a Han Solo sacrifice moment,’ Matt told Entertainment Weekly.

‘It was emotional to shoot but it was really, really quick. David never asked for music but I think we did play some emotional music when we shot David’s final look at Winona [Ryder].’

Throw in a phone call Joyce received by Murray that appears to spark hope Hopper’s still a-hopping, and it’s all but a certainty the groggy detective will return.

The Duffer Brothers Stranger Things
The Duffer Brothers have sais to ‘not assume anything’ (Picture: Netflix)

‘Don’t Assume Anything’

In something that blows the obvious conclusion out the window is the declaration from the Duffer Bros and David Harbour to ‘not assume anything’ about the American.

So seeing as everyone assumes that it’s Hopper, it might mean it’s not. Unless they mean the assumption he’s dead…we’re confused.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Matt Duffer said: ‘You definitely should not assume anything.

‘The line that Russian guard said is purposely intended to spark debate. We need people to ask the very questions that you’re asking.’

Stranger Things' Barb looks very glam in real life
Could Barb be getting a comeback? (Picture: Netflix)

Could The American actually be Barb?

This would be one twist no one saw coming – the long-awaited Justice for Barb (Shannon Purser).

She looked like a proper goner in season one when she was taken by the Demogorgon  – and we saw a body in the Upside Down.

But seeing as we know that fake bodies can be created like the surprisingly life-like one of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) that delivered a twist in season one, that could mean anything.

Especially with Barb’s parent’s still hunting for her and considering her missing, not dead, throughout.

With Hopper an obvious choice, will the Duffer Bros deliver a killer throwback and give fans something they were campaigning for over three seasons?

Billy Hargrove, played by dacre montgomery in stranger things
Was the sacrificed Billy not the real Billy? (Picture: Netflix)

Is The American actually Billy?!

Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) was very, very dead at the end of the third season, facing off against the Mind Flayer after being controlled by it all season.

As a result, he was literally stabbed through his stomach and bled out in the arms of his sister, Max (Sadie Sink).

Accept…was it actually him? One theory suggests that we might actually be seeing the bully brother-turned-saviour brother back in Hawkins – via Russia, of course.

One Reddit user noticed in the Upside Down at the beginning of the season, he was met with a clone of himself, and there’s a chance they could’ve switched places.

If he was found by the Russians, in the netherworld that’s causing nothing but havoc on the quaint Indiana town, they could’ve locked him up to hide the fact the Mind Flayer was using fake Billy to do something for them, so having real Billy around would be a really bad idea.

Stranger Things is available now on Netflix.

From Sheldon Cooper to Stuart Bloom: Who is the best Big Bang Theory character of all time?

The cast of The Big Bang Theory sat on a sofa
Who is the best Big Bang Theory character of all time? (Picture: CBS)

The Big Bang Theory might be over for good, but that doesn’t mean the discussion surrounding the characters is anywhere near done.

But there is one debate Metro.co.uk is hoping to settle once and for all – just who is the best character?

There is no denying they all have their own strengths and weaknesses, but who is the true fan favourite?

Which member of the main gang will be crowned the best? Or could Stuart surprise us all and claim the title.

Well, stranger things have happened…

Vote for your favourite below.

Sheldon Cooper

Sheldon Cooper Big Bang Theory
Is Sheldon the best Big Bang Theory character of all time? (Picture: CBS)

Sheldon is probably the biggest know-it-all in TV history, but he’s had the biggest growth out of the main crew. From barely tolerating anyone outside of himself to marrying Amy Farrah Fowler and winning a joint Nobel Prize. The old Shelly would never.

Despite being slightly (very) annoying, he has everyone’s best interests at heart. And, let’s face it, he is always right.

Leonard Hofstadter

Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) on Big Bang Theory
Does Leonard get your vote? (Picture: CBS)

Leonard Hofstadter is the glue that holds the gang together. We see him grow from the geeky, insecure scientist who is hopelessly in love with the beautiful woman next door, to a more geeky, slightly less insecure scientist. An example to people everywhere to continually shoot your shot.

Penny

Kaley Cuoco as Penny on The Big Bang Theory
Will Penny be named Big Bang Theory champion? (Picture: CBS)

Penny is everyone’s favourite ‘girl next door’. She knows what she wants – mostly a bottle of wine – and knows exactly how to get it. At first she was the biggest cliche of a struggling actress / waitress, but her charm won viewers, and Sheldon, over instantly. She fell in love with Leonard, and back out of it a couple of times, but he persisted enough to marry her twice. Penny is definitely a fan favourite, but is she yours?

Raj Koothrappali

Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) on Big Bang Theory
Could Raj really win? (Picture: CBS)

Raj is the hapless, unlucky-in-love one of the gang, and we wouldn’t have him any other way. If you cast your minds back to the very beginning of Big Bang, he couldn’t even speak to women, let alone do anything else. 12 seasons and a string of failed relationships later, and yes, he’s still single, but he also got to go on a date with Sarah Michelle Gellar, so there’s that.

Howard Wolowitz

Big Bang Theory Howard Wolowitz
Is Howard Wolowitz your favourite?(Picture: CBS)

Howard has had probably the biggest character arc of everyone on the show. He started off as a bit of a sex pest who would waste expensive resources on trying to meet women.

Side note: Remember the episode he got a robot arm stuck on his nether regions…

But, thanks to the introduction of Bernadette, he calmed himself down into a settled dad-of-two, and even managed to get himself to space. We stan Howard Joel Wolowitz.

Bernadette Wolowitz

"The Conjugal Configuration" - Pictured: Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch). Sheldon and Amy\'s honeymoon runs aground in New York, while Penny and Leonard discover they are uncomfortably similar to Amy\'s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fowler (Teller and Kathy Bates). Also, Koothrappali insults physicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and starts a Twitter war, on the 12th season premiere of THE BIG BANG THEORY, on a special night, Monday, Sept. 24 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Bernadette is definitely in with a shout (Picture: CBS)

Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz was introduced back in season three, as Penny’s colleague who took a liking to Howard, with absolutely no one else understanding why at the time. The microbiologist took some time to establish herself in the group, but as her relationship with Howard progressed, so did her confidence. She ended the series happily married, balancing her pharmaceutical sales career with raising two children.

And, honestly, she scares us slightly.

Amy Farrah Fowler

Mayim Bialik as Amy in The Big Bang Theory
Mayim played Amy in The Big Bang Theory (Picture: CBS)

We meet Amy Farrah Fowler after Raj and Howard put Sheldon’s information into a dating site, and the neuroscientist is somehow his only match. Despite everyone questioning her attraction to Sheldon, she refuses to turn her back on the ‘eccentric’ scientist, eventually marrying him and winning the Nobel alongside Shelly in the final episode. Shamy might be our total TV couple goals.

Stuart Bloom

Stuart (Kevin Sussman) Big Bang Theory
Could Stuart have a shock win? (Picture: CBS)

Comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom is the definition of underdog. He’s constantly on the outside looking in, wishing he was part of the main gang. In a way, he’s basically the viewer… But could he beat them all to be named best character?

Have your say below…

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix and plays on E4.

Ulrika Jonsson’s sexless marriage lead to the presenter wanting to ask her husband Ben Monet for an affair for her 50th birthday because she ‘didn’t want to die’ without enjoying intimacy again.

Speaking on Loose Women today, Jonsson bared all about her painful split, after counselling failed to save her marriage of 11 years.

‘I had that mad thought [about a divorce] in absolute desperation,’ she said. ‘I thought, “I want to stay in this marriage, if he doesn’t want to [have sex], I don’t want to die without having intimacy ever again.”‘

The 52-year-old divorced Monet this summer and admitted they had sex just once in eight years.

‘I was quite interested [in sex],’ Jonsson admitted. ‘I tried very very hard at increasingly regular intervals to…bring the subject up because it was of great concern to me. We worked really well as a couple and parents and a family. [This] was 100 per cent the reason why I wanted to stay in the marriage and keep going.’

The Dancing on Ice contestant also admitted that the whole experience made her question why there was no intimacy in her marriage, and whether this was an isolated experience.

She will also be opening up about how she feels being single at 52 and why, with the support of her children, she?s going back into the dating game.
The Loose Women panel discussed with Ulrika her mindset during her sexless marriage and how she once considered asking for an affair (Pictue: Rex Features)

‘I was obviously profoundly affected by it and, to be quite honest, wondered if there was other people going through similar things,’ she shared. ‘Mine, I guess, also coupled with going through the menopause and feeling different about my own body.’

The Loose Women panel then asked Jonsson whether she had ever instigated a conversation about the state of her marriage.

‘I probably only instigated [the conversation] a few times because I couldn’t bear the rejection,’ she said.  ‘When you sort of hope that something might happen, it could just be that those signals weren’t picked up on – maybe I wasn’t crazy raunchy enough or whatever it is – for me it genuinely wasn’t about sex, it was about intimacy.’

Monet – Jonsson’s third husband – is the father of her 11-year-old son Malcolm. The Shooting Star’s presenter first wed John Turnbull, but they divorce five years later. They share one child together; Cameron, 24.

The Gladiators host then married Lance Gerrard-Wight in 2003, after they met on reality show Mr. Right. They welcomed one daughter, Martha, together before divorcing in 2005.

Following the aftermath of the very public split, the Celebrity Big Brother winner has signed up for First Dates and has been tipped for this year’s I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here! in an effort to move on.

Loose Women continues weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.

There’s not much ground that South Park, now in its 23rd season, hasn’t covered. School shootings. Sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. And now…Winnie the Pooh?

Producers of the show are currently auditioning voice impersonators for roles on the show as everyone’s favourite childhood icons Winnie The Pooh and Piglet.

A call sheet revealed he satirical animation is looking for both male and female voices for the parts – but adding to the confusion these voices are needed for an episode airing tomorrow.

There’s no explanation as to how Winnie or Piglet will be used in the episode (called Band in China) but according to Comicbook.com the synopsis reads:

‘Randy sees an opportunity for TEGRIDY in China in the newest episode of South Park titled, “Band in China” airing on Wednesday, October 2 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

‘Randy lands himself in big trouble on a visit to China. Meanwhile, Stan starts a band to work out his frustration over having to move away from South Park.’

Maura Higgins considers herself ‘lucky’ she was picked for Dancing on Ice over fellow Love Islander Amber Gill

Maura reckons she’s lucky to be on Dancing on Ice over Amber (Picture: ITV/Rex)

Maura Higgins downplayed being picked for this year’s Dancing On Ice over other Love Islanders – including winner Amber Gill – to just plain old luck.

The Irish lass, who became a Love Island icon thanks to her blunt talk on sex and sexuality, will be getting her skates on for the celeb competition after being the first to be announced for the early 2020 series.

But since then she’s been dogged with rumours that Amber was initially meant to be taking part, but they dropped her when Maura revealed she was interested.

Speaking to Mirror Online, she said: ‘I know a lot of people went for castings for the show, but I was lucky enough to get it.’

She added she was ‘nervous but excited’ and will be using pro-dancer boyfriend Curtis Pritchard for his tips and tricks that could come in handy on the ice.

Whether the rumours about Maura being picked over Amber are true or not, it seems that they’re in a good place – with Amber totally not bothered.

Amber confirmed to The Sun that she was in talks for the show, but ultimately found it too much of a commitment to take on.

She also suggested that it wasn’t just Amber and Maura that were approached for the spot either.

‘I didn’t realise I had a place to lose, to be honest,’ she said.

‘I think a few islanders from this series went to ITV and had a chat about Dancing On Ice, but it’s a super-huge commitment and I went away from that meeting thinking it was probably a bit much, training constantly.

‘I went to see them, though, because I think you have got to find out what something is before you just say a flat-out no.’

To be fair, Amber definitely has more than enough to be getting on with – starting with a £1million deal with Miss Pap.

Dancing On Ice returns in January 2020 on ITV.

Peter Crouch once spent £600 on a taxi to go and pick up his lucky pants before a game against Newcastle back when he played for Liverpool.

Model Abbey Clancy revealed that her husband was desperate to wear the underwear she had bought him during the match because he believed they would help him win.

Realising he hadn’t put them on he paid a taxi driver the princely sum to drive all the way to his house to get them. That’s dedication.

Abbey appears on her first Back Of The Net show along with Peter and TV presenter John Bishop.

Talk turns to the footballer’s ‘goal drought’ while he was at Liverpool, and Abbey explains how she helped him get his mojo back.

She says: ‘I went shopping with my mum and we found these lucky pants and we bought him them. He wore them and he couldn’t stop scoring!

‘Then he was playing Newcastle and he forgot them so he paid a taxi driver £600 to go and get them.’

Abbey, 33, is also asked what home life is like now that her husband, 38, has retired from the beautiful game.

She says on the show: ‘He’s never at home. He sold retirement to me saying we were going to go to the gym together, go to lunch together – I haven’t seen him!’

She added that her man is ‘actually a really good poet’.

‘He used to write me letters and poetry all the time, until we had four kids then he suddenly stopped…’ she joked.

Also on the show is former Chelsea and England playmaker Joe Cole, while the GOAT segment features Alan Shearer, who spills all about the time he sung All Night Long to actual Lionel Richie.

Back Of The Net airs tonight on Amazon Prime Video.

The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln could still return in season 11 to direct

Andrew Lincoln has left The Walking Dead as Rick Grimes, however that hasn’t stopped the showrunners from wanting him back to direct.

Last year, the star teased the fandom that they hadn’t seen the last of him, as the actor revealed he’d return to the show – but this time, he’d be off camera.

However, despite the excitement, the 46-year-old’s plans came to ahead when his busy schedule left him no time to come back.

But, even though he’s missed out on making his mark on season 10, it seems executive producer Denise Huth will always keep the doors open for him in future episodes.

She told RadioTimes.com: ‘I would love for Andy to come back and direct.’

‘He’s so tight with this crew, he understands the show so well…’ Huth said: ‘It is a beast, and I think it’s tough for people to come in and have this be the first thing that they really direct, but obviously he brings to the table an understanding that other first time directors would not have.’

The star has previously expressed how he hopes to direct an episode (Picture: AMC)

Andrew wouldn’t be the first actor to return to the set, in Atlanta, Georgia, as Michael Cudlitz who played Abraham in the zombie hit has directed a series of episodes.

‘We had Michael Cudlitz direct his first episode last year, he ended up doing two this year and has done an amazing job,’ Huth explained.

‘I’ve absolutely loved the times that Michael has been here directing and it would be so fun for Andy to come back [too], so I hope it works out.’

In September last year, Lincoln expressed his plans to return to the show.

He told Entertainment Weekly: ‘I’m going back to shadow a director, and my intention is to direct next year.

The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln
Rick Grimes will make a comeback in three movies (Picture: AMC)

‘That’s how much I am invested in the show and the continuation of the story.’

Yet, the publication has since reported that he has failed to make it back onto set due to his ‘busy schedule.’

The father-of-two will be reprising his role of Rick in three spin-off movies, which will be released in cinemas next year.

And Scott Gimple, who is the chief content officer of the show, hasn’t ruled out a Rick and Daryl reunion.

When asked if Carl’s dad will ever return during a panel at San Diego Comic-con, he said: ‘I mean, without… I’ll say this.’

The star went on: ‘You said, “Will he ever?” I can’t rule that out. Have you seen a little film When Harry Met Sally? That’s how they’re going to rejoin again.’

The Walking Dead’s third spin-off series is set to be released in 2020, with The Walking Dead season 10 dropping on Fox in the UK 7 October.

Who will be able to keep up their scores from last week? (Picture: BBC)

Strictly Come Dancing Movie Week is upon us and there’s going to be some serious retro vibes going on…starting with Will Bayley and Janette Manrara doing a Paso Doble to the Pokemon theme song.

The cast of 2019 are going all out for the annual week three theme of Movie Week, with everything from Fred Astaire classic Top Hat all the way through to Disney’s Moana being represented by the squad.

David James, who ended up in the dance off last week, will be hoping to claw his way back up the leaderboard with a Viennese Waltz to Kiss From A Rose by Seal from the Batman Forever soundtrack.

Currently favourite to go with the bookies, the footballer managed to keep his spot last week with rower James Cracknell eliminated for his jive.

Meanwhile up at the top of the board, Karim and Amy will be keeping their fingers crossed for a winning streak with a Samba to Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas…though which one will be playing the Kung Fu Panda we’re yet to figure out.

But they’ll have some fight on their hands with Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice channelling their inner Liza Minelli with a performance to Cabaret.

Then in a move we didn’t quite see coming, Mike Bushell will be going Magic Mike to It’s Raining Men with Katya Jones.

As always, voting will take place on Saturday evening, with the dance-off and first elimination being aired on Sunday night’s show.

Who will be a blockbuster, and who will be a box office bomb?

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Brendan O’Carroll has a scrapped plot about Agnes’ sister Dolly.

Dolly, who would be similar to Hyacinth Bucket from the 90s sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, was originally set to appear in Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie, but the storyline was changed.

However the writer still has the script for the plot and hopes he can work it into the TV show or another big screen outing for the Irish matriarch.

The storyline – in which Brendan plays both sisters – would see Dolly visit Agnes or vice versa, with the Browns heading to Canada for a family funeral.

He told Metro.co.uk: ‘I had an outline of a script for a movie where Dolly sends Mrs Brown a telegram to say that such and such uncle has died in Canada, and there’s to be a will and a funeral.

‘So the whole family go over to Canada for the funeral. It’s the last flight in the air because the airlines are going on strike and the funeral is taking place in Vancouver, so they have to go on a road trip to Vancouver for the funeral with the Canadian family and the Irish family on the road together. Brendan said writing the musical was ‘tough’ (Picture: Rex)

Until then he will be focusing on the Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Musical, which is running throughout November and December with stops in Belfast, Liverpool, Sheffield and Dublin.

It picks up where D’Movie left off, with Mrs Brown putting on a musical to pay a £75,000 legal bill for successfully saving her fruit and veg stall.

Despite writing Mrs Brown’s Boys for years, he found penning the musical so tough he ‘would rather be crucified than do it again’.

He said: ‘It was a tough gig, it was a tough writing job. But with anything that’s hard, if you get a result, the joy from the result is twice as much.’

Ryan Reynolds launches 6 Underground trailer as he teams up with Netflix and Michael Bay

Ryan Reynolds has dropped the first full trailer of his new Netflix movie, 6 Underground – and it’s safe to say we are completely hooked already.

The film, which is from the brains of the Deadpool franchise, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will see Ryan play a billionaire One, who recruits a team to fake their own deaths.

Chosen not only for their skill, but for a unique desire to delete their pasts and change the future, the team’s sole mission in life is to ensure that their actions mattered.

6 Underground

Among the ranks of the new vigilantes with literally more money than sense is ex-Eastenders and X-Men star Ben Hardy, and Now You See Me star Dave Franco.

Teasing the trailer, Ryan went old school with a photo of a DVD sent through the post (remember when Netflix did that?) confirming the film will be released on December 13.

He wrote: ‘For your consideration comes the haunting story of One (Ryan Reynolds), a brooding, beautiful and sarcastic man, who vows to take his pain and channel it into changing the world for the better.

‘From Director Michael Bay comes an ode to the great Italian neorealist Fellini but with fast cars, insane action, exotic locations and professional gorgeous people where post-World War II Italy would normally be.’

So…basically nothing like a Fellini movie then?

Ryan Reynolds - Netflix
Ryan went old school with his announcement for 6 Underground (Picture: Netflix)

He later added: ‘Apparently @netflix now has a ‘digital’ arm, so you don’t have to rewind at the end. Anyway, here’s the ‘digital’ trailer for #6Underground A.K.A. “How Michael Bay Stopped Worrying and Love Explosions More.”‘

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Corey Hawkins, and Mélanie Laurent complete the iconic six, and judging by the trailer, things soon get real weird, real quick.

With the help of ‘everything explodes’ director Michael Bay, the trailer doesn’t disappoint as we get hyped for what this new film will bring.

This will be Bay’s first ever creation for a streaming service, and it’s clear he’s going to make it count.

6 Underground will be released December 13 on Netflix.

Stranger Things season 4
Stranger Things has officially been renewed for a fourth season (Picture: Netflix)

Stranger Things season four is still some ways off yet, but at least fans finally have confirmation that there will actually be another series of the hit Netflix sci-fi show.

The news that there will indeed be another season of Stranger Things was announced last night, on Monday, September 30, as Netflix teased fans with clues about the fourth instalment of the TV show.

Stranger Things show creators dropped a hint that a new season of the show may have been commissioned on Sunday, September 29 when they tweeted a picture of a clock and an upside-down smiley face.

The new season was announced yesterday via Twitter with a teaser trailer captioned ‘We’re not in Hawkins anymore.’

Set to the unmistakable Stranger Things theme music, the teaser shows the logo of the show trapped in the Upside Down, becoming smothered and dulled by vines and fog.

When does Stranger Things Season 4 start?

The announcement of the new Stranger Things series comes after the show’s third cycle dropped this summer to a rapturous reception by critics and fans.

An exact start date for season four hasn’t been announced yet, but we know that we will get to see it at some stage next year, in 2020.

While the cast have remained tight-lipped about the new season and which characters will (or will not) be returning, Netflix have revealed that they’ve signed the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, to an overall deal to produce TV and film content for the streaming service.

The cast haven’t commented if they will definitely return for season 4 (Netflix)

The Duffer Brothers said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix. Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show — and forever changed our lives.

‘From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We can’t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!’

Stranger Things 4 is coming to Netflix in 2020.

The Circle: 5 moments of TV gold that Richard Madeley gave us as he leaves ‘Judy’ behind

Richard Madeley
Richard Madeley has been everything we wanted and more on The Circle (Picture: Channel 4)

Richard Madeley’s time on The Circle has unfortunately come to an end – but man, the one week we did have with him was truly iconic.

Turning into 27-year-old Judy for the sake of his new social media mates in the game of popularity, Richard certainly left his mark.

Heading out tonight, Richard is set to discover if he’s completed his mission of becoming the most disliked member of the game… and been blocked by influencers Tim and Georgina.

And then, before he goes, he gets to knock on the door of one player who is about to get the shock of their life…before the rest of the group find out the truth.

If you haven’t been convinced to watch the series yet, which we’ve marked as one of the best reality shows ever, we promise you – you’ve missed some TV gold.

Here’s just some of the classic moments of telly we’ve been treated to as a result of Richard taking part on the show…

Twerking and attempting to dab in a motion capture suit

Richard’s ability to be down with the kids was well and truly put to the test this episode when he was put in a motion capture suit and instructed to perform dance moves for the other players of the game.

While there were certain ones he got down, he was left stumbling as ‘Judy’ had to dab.

He was a bit more successful with the old Gangnam style, but it was his twerking that truly tipped us over the edge.

It’s a sight we’re not going to be forgetting anytime soon, and now it’s burned into your brains too – you’re welcome.

Richard Madeley The Circle
Richard certainly left the show educated on millenial lingo (Picture: Channel 4)

Discovering the true meaning of the aubergine emoji

It’s safe to say that Richard’s time on The Circle was an educational one – especially when it comes to playing social player lingo.

But that was never more obvious than during a game of DickPics on Sunday night’s episode, where he discovered the alternate meaning of the aubergine emoji.

Richard worried about his lack of emoji knowledge as he wondered out loud: ‘What’s that, marrow, courgette, I should have done emoji homework?’

Yes. Yes you should have, Richard. Though to be fair even we didn’t see that one coming.

The Circle's Woody
Poor Woody had no idea he was talking to Richard  (Picture: ITV)

Attempting to flirt with Woody

Poor Woody. The 18-year-old had no idea what he’d let himself in for when he decided to try it on with ‘Judy’ – oblivious it was actually Richard he was talking to.

Keen on the blonde beauty from the second she entered the game, Woody took his shot to impress the supposed 27-year-old nutrition specialist.

Playing along, Richard tried to let him down gently – but couldn’t help being a bit of a flirt back. .

Sending him a donut tree, Judy/Richard tells him it was a ‘sweet treat, for a sweet-looking boy.’

Woody in response went in for the kill and complimented ‘Judy’s’ profile picture, declaring: ‘Venice isn’t the only thing beautiful in that photo.’

‘Oh Woody…if only you knew,’ Richard laughed from the safety of his apartment.

Naturally, the awkward encounter, made worse when you realise Woody is Zoe Ball and Fatboy Slim’s son, left everyone hiding behind pillows on their sofa in cringe.

His heartwarming heart-to-heart with Georgina

Richard left himself and Georgina in tears when he dropped messing around for a rare heart-to-heart over Georgina’s Crohn’s disease battle.

After Georgina shared a photo of her posing in her bikini with her ileostomy bag, Richard/Judy DMed her social rival to praise her as brave.

Georgina told her: ‘Yes that picture meant a lot to me. Having that ileostomy bag was a life altering time for me and that picture makes me feel super proud of myself and how far I’ve come.’

His fatherly instincts kicking in despite himself, he was heard saying aloud how impressed he was by Georgina.

He then replied: ‘I thought so, and it shows how super confident you are. Basically I didn’t even notice. I just saw gorgeous you in a swimsuit. It was only later the lightbulb went on. I think you’re amazing, hun.’

As both cried to themselves over the sweet interaction, Richard then admitted: ‘If she was my daughter I would be so proud of her.’

Richard Madeley as Judy on The Circle
Richard Madeley has been pretending to be a 27 year old called Judy (Picture: Channel 4)

Turns alter-ego Judy into a ‘boujee b***h’

Despite 56-year-old Richard, surprisingly, doing rather well for himself as a 27-year-old woman, The Circle had other things in mind and told him to turn on the other players.

Given 24 hours to get themselves blocked in order to give immunity to a player in the next ranking, Richard turned on everyone’s fave, Tim, calling him out in the public chat and being mean to him in DMs.

But for some reason, it was the introduction of new girl Ella, and the comments she made to her, that really put her in bad stead with the entire group.

Asking Ella how her first night was, ‘Judy’ said: ‘Hey Ella. Welcome, how did you sleep? Aren’t the sheets awful? Reckon they got them at a pound shop? I wish I brought my own,’ along with a sad face.

‘Lol Judy is a boujee b*tch, I rate it,’ Ella said, laughing at the comment, but it rubbed the others the wrong way.

Who knew that bedding critique was the key to making people hate you?!

The Circle continues weeknights at 10pm on Channel 4.

Jerry Seinfeld wins lawsuit claiming he stole idea for Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee

Jerry Seinfeld has won a copyright lawsuit which claimed he stole the idea for TV show Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.

A former producer and colleague of the US comedian, Christian Charles, alleged he had pitched the idea for the TV show to Seinfeld in 2002 – a decade before it aired.

Manhattan District judge Alison Nathan, however, ruled Charles had taken too long to sue, going outside the three-year statute of limitations.

Charles and Seinfeld worked on the show’s pilot together in October 2011, but it’s believed the pair’s relationship broke down after Charles sought more credit than he was given.

Seinfeld and his team rejected his copyright claim in 2012 and agreed to pay Charles $107,734,41 in 2012 so they could work on the show without his involvement. As Charles’ follow-up copyright claim took so long after he received the money, the judge dismissed the lawsuit.

In a statement, Seinfeld’s lawyer, Orin Snyder, said: ‘Today’s victory is a complete vindication.

‘Jerry created Comedians In Cars and this lawsuit was nothing but a money-grab seeking to capitalise on the success of the show. We are pleased that the court saw through the noise.’

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee began as a web series on Crackle, seeing famous faces like Jim Carrey and Ellen DeGeneres join Seinfeld to discuss their life, vintage cars, and other tangents.

In 2017, the show moved to Netflix for its tenth season, with the eleventh batch of episodes releasing in July earlier this year.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee is available on Netflix.

Joey Essex shows off his weird way of cutting vegetables as he whips up ‘Stirotto’ on Celebrity MasterChef

Of course Joey Essex was going to do things a bit differently in the Celebrity MasterChef kitchen as the semi-finals got underway.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star whipped up what he called a ‘Stirotto’ in the kitchen on Monday night in a bid to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

He created the strange dish, a cross between a stir-fry and a risotto, using leftovers from their last challenge, and he had 80 minutes to make it.

He explained: ‘I like to take risks and when you take a risk and it works it’s brilliant.’

Joey’s dish included rice, boiled eggs, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes and peppers.

Of course all those vegetables needed chopping up, which is when Joey’s creative flair came into play.

Why does Joey Essex chop vegetables like that?

We don’t think we’ve seen anyone slice yellow peppers like that before.

He presented his Stirotto to John and Gregg complete with a improvised rap: ‘That’s a Stirotto, that’s my motto. That’s not dirty, that’s certi. Even if you served it to certain man, served it to my nan. You would say it’s quite peng, my nan would say it’s quite leng.’

We don’t think Stormzy or Aitch will be shaking in their shoes.

Voila! Stirotto (Picture: BBC)

Gregg like the way the Stirotto was presented but wasn’t too keen on the texture, comparing it to ‘cold rice pudding’.

John was equally unimpressed, telling the reality TV star that it would never catch on.

Joey clearly needs to hone his cooking skills a lot more, as at one point during the show he struggled to tell the difference between lamb and chicken.

He also had a problem with handling fish, explaining: ‘I’m not the man for fish, just putting it out there. Me and fish don’t get on.’

Celebrity MasterChef airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on BBC One.

The X Factor star TracyLeanne Jefford gets cancerous tumour on her nose caused by sunbeds cut out on The Bad Skin Clinic

X Factor singer TracyLeanne Jefford has turned to the Bad Skin Clinic to have a cancerous tumour removed from her nose on national televison.

The former finalist, who appeared on the ITV talent show in 2017, was first diagnosed with basal cell carsinoma (BCC) in April of this year, the most common kind of skin cancer.

‘About a year and a half ago, I came up with a little lump raising from the side of my nose,’ she said on the show. ‘I was quite concerned but I still never thought skin cancer. You never ever think it’s going to happen to you.’

During her appearance, TracyLeanne travelled to Harley Street, where she met skin cancer expert Dr Emma Craythorne, who told her that although it is a form of cancer, BCC is treatable. It’s not fatal, but it can grow if left unattended.

In the clip (which is not for the squeamish!) TracyLeanne has the tumour removed from her nose by Dr Emma, who can see a lot of sun damage to the 35-year-old’s skin.

‘I was a constant sunbed user,’ the singer admits. ‘I always felt like if I had a tan I would have more confidence.’

‘It probably is sunbeds that lead to this,’ Dr Emma warns. ‘We know the sun, in particular UV radiation, causes changes to the cells.’

It was happy news in the end for TracyLeanne, as her lump was successfully removed. The mum-of-three had previously vowed to beat skin cancer.

The Bad Skin Clinic previously helped another patient who had ‘white lumps of jelly’ growing all over his body.

The Bad Skin Clinic airs Tuesdays at 10pm on Quest Red.

James Cracknell already shaken off Strictly sequins as he sports biking leathers after leaving show

It didn’t take long for James Cracknell to shake off those Strictly Come Dancing sequins after being the first star booted off the show.

Just days after saying farewell to the ballroom, the 47-year-old was pictured in his biking gear as he rode through the streets of London.

But despite no longer being in the popular dancing competition, it seems the British athlete has remained in high spirits and managed to crack a smile at the camera.

After removing his helmet, and clambering off his bike, the double Olympic gold medalist made his way through the city, dressed head-to-toe in leather.

The star’s sighting comes after he opened up to Rylan Clark-Neal on the sister show, It Takes Two.

Here he spoke about his tragic bike accident that almost took his life back in 2010.

James Cracknell
He was spotted in his biking leathers after leaving the show (Picture: Backgrid)

James told the popular host: ‘One of the reasons why I did it is actually people’s perceptions of what you can do after a pretty serious accident are limited.

‘And if you listen to people putting limits on you for whatever it’s for you’re going to hit that ceiling.

‘For me it’s a very structured way of learning. I needed to know the steps before progressing.’

He continued: ‘Then Luba says said you have to dance to music with me. You can’t go and learn the steps on your own.

James Cracknell
James was the first to be booted off the competition (Picture: BBC)

‘The difference in the way I learned from the first to second dance was realising it’s more than just the ABC of doing it. You have to do it with someone get some emotion across and just do it.’

When attempting to to cycle, row, run and swim from Los Angeles to New York, at the time, the star was hit by a petrol tanker, which caused damage to the frontal lobes of his brain.

And his professional dance partner Luba was more than inspired by his story.

She said: ‘I would like to say a huge thank you with all my heart to make this journey so amazing.

‘You inspired me every day and I hope you inspire many more other people to start dancing.’

Alan Carr’s There’s Something About The Movies is back with a brand new series and a slight revamp as Jennifer Saunders takes over from Micky Flanagan as the new team captain challenging on Oscar-nominee Michael Sheen.

As far as panel shows go, they don’t get any more showbiz than this one. Each week a slew of film stars from both sides of the Atlantic test their movie knowledge with blockbuster scale sketches lifted from the classics of days gone by sandwiched in between.

When we sat down with Alan, fresh from filming a Reservoir Dogs sketch, the funny man was decked out in a sharp tuxedo… and fishnet stockings.

Although, it seemed to be just another day in the office.

And rather than rival comedians battling it out to see which of them can get the biggest laugh, Alan’s panel show has actual A-listers sharing anecdotes from working on some of the most important features of the past century.

And by anecdotes, we mean some genuinely jaw-dropping gems.

Alan Carr's There's Something About The Movies
There’s Something About The Movies returns with a slew of A-listers later this month (Picture: Sky)

‘Having Tim Roth and Warwick Davis being able to talk about Star Wars and Harry Potter – there are fantastic stories,’ Michael enthused to Metro.co.uk.

‘Our American guests find it a bit confusing because there are no panel shows in America. They don’t know if it’s a talk show; they’re not entirely sure so you can see them slowly realising.

‘I think they use me as a bit of a sacrificial ghost! If Michael Sheen is doing it then it must be alright.’

‘You get an insight into films,’ Alan agreed. ‘Tim Roth was talking about working with Quentin Tarantino so you get a different texture to it. You learn things – Quentin Tarantino used different bloods for different massacres! You don’t get that on Tipping Point, do you?’

Carrie Fisher passed away back in 2016, the day before her mother Debbie Reynold’s died of a stroke. The Star Wars actress was famously one of the most loved stars in Hollywood and Warwick Davis, who starred as an Ewok in 1983’s Return of The Jedi, shared a tale which might explain why, revealed Alan.

Tom Allen and Warwick Davis
Tom Davis and Warwick Davis recreate Twins! (Picture: Sky)

‘Princess Leia was there for every take of Warwick Davis’ when he was a young boy as an Ewok because he got so hot in his outfit she’d be there to give him water,’ the comic enthused. ‘And cookies and milk!’

‘Some of the best stories are those stories,’ Jennifer grinned, but before she could get to sentimental Alan snarled: ‘Yeah and then we just take the piss out of it.’

Among the celebrity guests joining Alan, Jennifer, Michael and comedian Tom Allen this series, we’ve got Midsomar star Florence Pugh, George of The Jungle Brendan Fraser, and There’s Something About Mary’s Matt Dillon.

There’s Something About Movies airs on Thursday 10th October at 9pm on Sky One and NOW TV.

David James hits back at Strictly judges for ‘clichéd and not constructive’ criticism over dance

$

David James has criticised Strictly judges Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli following critique of his dance, describing their verdicts as ‘not constructive’.

The 49-year-old former footballer landed in the bottom two following his Paso Doble with dance partner Nadiya Bychkova, managing to secure his place in the competition against James Cracknell.

David’s dance earned the lowest score of the night with ten points, which is also the second lowest score in Strictly history.

Speaking on spin-off show It Takes Two, David expressed his frustration after Craig branded the dance ‘limp, lame, and lacklustre’ on Saturday night.

‘This is the thing, these guys are and have been at the top of their field, and as a trainee dancer you want, if someone’s going to criticise you, you want to know what the problem is,’ David said.

‘The ladies came out and said about the passion and all that stuff. I didn’t even realise Shirley [Ballas] had said anything good because you just hear [the negative]. With regards to him [Craig], it’s a bit clichéd and not constructive.’

After host Rylan Clark-Neal pointed out Bruno Tonioli had said ‘he’d seen better shape in aircraft safety demos’, David added: ‘I didn’t know what he was referring to, that’s the point.

‘If it was a specific part of the move, then I would have gone “yeah fine”. That was a frustration for me, for us, that the criticism and the mark was not reflective in our opinion of the whole dance. It was more of the early bit.’

Asked if he thought he was undermarked, David replied: ‘I always wanted a ten on Strictly, I just wanted it from one judge, not all four.’

Nadia also expressed similar frustration after the judges commented on mishaps with his cape, revealing how they didn’t have time to have a dress rehearsal with it.

‘It’s just a bit sad they picked up on the cape,’ Nadia said. ‘He couldn’t do much, it actually got stuck on the shoulder of his jacket and it’s difficult to get the cape going after this.

‘It was a little mistake timing wise but he did all the steps right and you did really well.’

On the next live show, David and Nadiya will be dancing the American Smooth (Viennese Waltz) to Kiss From A Rose by Seal.

Ashleigh Butler has revealed her performing dog Sully is bisexual and is attracted to ‘anything fluffy’.

The 24-year-old trainer won Britain’s Got Talent in 2012 with pet pooch Pudsey, who sadly died in 2017 after suffering terminal leukaemia.

She recently returned with replacement dog Sully for Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, and has since revealed how Sully isn’t so fussy when it comes to humping up a storm.

Speaking to Mirror Online at the Animal Hero Awards, Ashleigh said how Sully was out to impress among the mutt community.

‘He’s a bit of a flirt with all the other dogs,’ Ashleigh said. ‘This is like his favourite night.’

Asked if he’s on the prowl for a girlfriend, Ashleigh replied: ‘Or maybe a boyfriend, Sully is not fussed, anything fluffy he’s like “yeah”.’

Have a dog ready for a back kennel hook-up? Sully’s ready and waiting.

Ashleigh didn’t make it through to the Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions final, losing out to daredevil duo Bello & Annaliese Nock and sand artist Kseniya Simonova.

Britain’s Got Talent acts Bars And Melody and Twist And Pulse were the last contestants to make it through, who will compete in the final this Saturday.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions continues on Saturday ITV at 8.30pm.
