Game Of Thrones characters compared to real life actors as season 8 premieres

As we approach the final hurdle in the epic that is Game Of Thrones, it’s hard to forget the actors who portray these characters look strikingly different to their on screen likenesses.

In some cases, we’re talking different hair colours, sometimes no hair at all and in the case of Jaime Lannister, all limbs still intact.

He still sometimes totally looks like the Prince from Shrek, though…

Let’s be honest, when we all first saw what Daenerys looked like IRL we were shooketh. But then we took a peak at the rest of the cast and saw that, yep, there are quite a few stars who took a few more hours in the makeup chair than others.

And it forced the actors to try and lean into their characters more, with Sophie Turner dying her hair red to emulate the natural locks of Sansa Stark. Now she sports light blonde hair and rocks a wig on the HBO set to save those tresses.

So before we see them begin to take their last bow in the season eight premiere this evening, let’s compare and contrast, eh?

Emilia Clarke/Daenerys Targaryen

This combination photo shows Emilia Clarke at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, right, and her character Daenerys Targaryen. (Photos by HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)
Sweet baby Dany has opposite hair to Emilia (Picture: HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)

In the past Emilia explained when she dyed her usually brunette locks to blonde she saw everyone reference her role.

‘I get recognised a lot more, and I’m less good at dealing with that,’ she previously explained to Harper’s Bazaar. ‘You clock anyone who’s got this hair colour anyway. So you see someone with peroxide blonde hair you look, and then [people] go “oh my god it’s that chick from the show with the dragons” – and then I’m running!’

Sophie Turner/Sansa Stark

It’s all wig, baby (Picture: HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)

Sophie admitted that she dyed her hair so often it became so badly damaged – seeing as blonde peroxide isn’t really the best thing for one’s strands.

After one too many returns to blonde, the Game Of Thrones hairstylists put a hard ban on the X-Men star from picking up the paintbrush again.

Sansa was now a wig woman.

‘A few years ago, I was trying to go back from red to blonde, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig for Game of Thrones,’ she told Glamour. ‘They wouldn’t let me dye it back red or my hair would’ve fallen out.’

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau/Jaime Lannister

This combination photo shows Nikolaj Coster-Waldau at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, left, and his character Jaime Lannister. (Photos by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)
Nikolaj and Jaime large look the same (Picture:Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)

Nikolaj doesn’t look too dissimilar to his on-screen compadre Jaime – albeit in real life Nikolaj still sports his hand, after Jaime was relieved of his in the first season.

When it comes to looks, we’ve seen Jaime’s hairstyle stay with Nikolaj on the red carpets, even though the fictional character looks a little scruffier these days.

Times are tough in Westeros.

Peter Dinklage/Tyrison Lannister

This combination photo shows Peter Dinklage at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, right, and his character Tyrion Lannister. (Photos by HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)
These two are strikingly similar (Picture: HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)

There isn’t much difference between Peter and his onscreen wise-cracking character Tyrion.

The two both sport brunette, scruffy hair and while Peter is more a fan of the goatee, Tyrion has been known to known to rock the facial hair – especially since taking on the role of the Hand Of The Queen.

Gwendoline Christie/Brienne Of Tarth

This combination photo shows Gwendoline Christie at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, left, and her character Brienne of Tarth. (Photos by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)
We live for both these women (Picture: Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)

While Brienne is ballsy and brash and can wield a sword better than pretty much everyone in Westeros, she doesn’t have much time for the palaver of hair and makeup. And more power to her.

In real life, Gwendoline Christie has mastered the balance of being a boss as well as owning every red carpet she steps on.

Her butterfly-esque gown from the season eight premiere last week should cement that good and hard.

Kit Harington/Jon Snow

This combination photo shows Kit Harington at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, left, and his character Jon Snow. (Photos by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)
Kit finally cut his hair off and we all cried (Picture: Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)

Kit Harington and Jon Snow could have passed for twins up until Kit filmed his final scenes as the Stark bastard and cut his curly locks off.

Famous for his pout, the actor’s character also sported the same broody look which made it mighty hard to tell the two apart.

After season eight filming wrapped, though, Kit debuted a shorter hairstyle and hearts around the world broke – Jon Snow was done and dusted.

‘I’d like to step away and enjoy the obscurity, cut my hair, make myself less recognizable as the character, and go do and some other things with a completely new look and tone,’ he previously told EW.

He added: ‘The beard will be harder to get rid of – I quite like the beard. I like having the long hair and beard both, but it will be like ritualistic thing. I can’t go into my next role looking the same. This role was brilliant, but I’ll need to get rid of Jon Snow.’

Still, we’d hazard a guess that ‘you know nothing’ pout is going to stay with us forever.

Maisie Williams/Arya Stark

This combination photo shows Maisie Williams at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, right, and her character Arya Stark. (Photos by HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)
Maisie dyed her hair purple following the last day on set (Picture: HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)

While Arya Stark shared a likeness to the actress that portrays her, Maisie Williams, as soon as she was done wreaking havoc on the show Maisie dyed her hair bright pink.

After debuting a purple hue on the premiere red carpet, it seems like the fresh digital entrepreneur isn’t done with the daring looks following her years sporting a straighty-180 hairstyle for Arya.

‘I dyed it because I didn’t want to work,’ Maisie told Rolling Stone. ‘It’s a pretty good way of stopping that. And it just feels so good, so me.

‘I’ve battled my whole adolescence with trying to put a stamp on my appearance, but also be a blank canvas as an actor.’

Isaac Hempstead Wright

This combination photo shows Isaac Hempstead Wright at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, right, and his character Bran Stark. (Photos by HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)
Isaac is just a swisher version (Picture: HBO, left, and Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)

Isaac is really a swisher version of Bran Stark, if you compare their on screen to IRL likenesses.

While Bran may indeed take on a whole new character this season (if White Walker theory stans are anything to go by) right now the only difference between the two is Isaac sports glasses and Bran gets about in an old-timey wheelchair.

Yeah, we’re clutching at straws, aren’t we?

Jason Momoa/Khal Drogo

This combination photo shows Jason Momoa at HBO's "Game of Thrones" final season premiere in New York on April 3, 2019, left, and his character Khal Drogo. (Photos by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)
We don’t care that Khal isn’t about anymore, still worthy of comparison (Picture: Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, left, and HBO)

We don’t really care that Khal Drogo left us in season one – the comparison between the fearsome warrior and actor Jason Momoa is still worthy of mention.

Because we’ll never forget.

The leader of the Dothraki army sported a styled beard, braids and some funky kohl eyeliner in the series as he married Dany and made our hearts soar (after some painful introduction episodes that made it hard for us to take to him in the beginning), Jason has the epic scar that really made Khal stand out.

He’s yet to rock the eyeliner on the red carpet though, but never say never.

Game Of Thrones series eight premieres tonight.

Line Of Duty just crossed over with Friends in anticipation of Sunday night’s upcoming episode and fans are lapping it up.

BBC One’s official Twitter account shared a minute-long clip of the drama’s best bits in the style of the sitcom’s intro, complete with the theme tune we all know and love.

After the opening credits rolled out, Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) were seen hanging out at the pub and catching up over a pint – just like Rachel and the gang would chill in Central Perk.

‘Got you a big pint of that cat’s piss that you young fellas seem to like so much,’ Hastings said prompting a burst of canned laughter.

It even had the iconic Friends font (Picture: BBC)

Arnott replied: ‘That whiskey’s probably older than me.’

‘Aye,’ noted Hastings. ‘And all the better for it,’ with you yep, you guessed it, even more canned laughter.

Fans are living for the crossover on social media for some reason, with one person wooing: ‘The person who made this needs a medal.’

Thrilled that Friends finally got to meet Line Of Duty, they continued: Great to see Line of Duty getting the #Friends treatment,’ and ‘Loving this creative take with a scenes of humour. Well done all involved.’

Line Of Duty is set to reach its halfway point tonight, with the synopsis for the episode teasing: ‘Corbett’s most daring plan yet requires McQueen to exploit links with corrupt police officers.

‘Meanwhile, the investigation makes a shocking discovery.’

The fifth series has been centered around pinning down corrupt officer ‘H,’ who’s identity so far remains a mystery and could stay that way for a while.

Line Of Duty airs Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.

Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harington got ‘trapped in closet of his own farts’ in backfired on-set prank

Kit Harington as Jon Snow
Kit Harington found himself in trouble off-set in a prank gone wrong (Picture: HBO)

Kit Harington learned many things while on Game Of Thrones – and knowing not to lock yourself in a cupboard for a prank might have been the harshest lesson of all.

Ben Crompton, who plays Eddison Tollett, a brother of the Night’s Watch, revealed that he might have been under Jon Snow’s command on the set of the Wall – but off set, it was game on between him and Kit Harington.

And Kit accidentally learned the hard way not to mess with Ben after finding himself trapped in a closet as they tried to let off steam during a long night shoot together.

Speaking to RadioTimes, Ben said: ‘He was expecting me to come back to my trailer, in the middle of a night shoot, [but] then then Mark Stanley went “Kit’s hiding in your wardrobe”. And then they called lunch, so we just went for lunch and left him in there.’

So while he patiently waited for the prank to play off, he was trapped in the closet – and eventually let off some ‘steam’ himself.

‘I think at one point he farted and sort of confused himself but thought “I’ve committed to it now.”,’ Ben added.

Nice.

Tonight is the beginning of the end for the Game Of Thrones squad with the start of the show’s eighth and final season airs.

Will Jon Snow’s efforts pay off and will he end up ruling the Iron Throne? Or will his complicated relationship with Daenerys end up causing him trouble he hasn’t quite anticipated yet?

Whatever the case – don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with the show’s own drinking game for the first episode. Get ready.

Watching Game Of Thrones’ brutal and bloody death scenes can actually be good for your brain

Blood and gore keeps you interested and actually can be good for you (Picture: HBO)

As a Game Of Thrones fan, it’s perfectly natural to relish in the moments of justice when someone we love to hate finally gets what’s coming to them, or even in the sudden and shocking deaths of the characters you love.

In fact, we’ve just had it asserted by pro psychologists that taking enjoyment from the blood and gore from the show can actually be quite good for you – which is handy with season eight starting and no one being safe from meeting a bloody and violent end.

***Warning: Contains violent images****

It turns out that the escapism and fantasy of the show is what makes it so easy for us to embrace the savagery Westeros delivers on a near constant basis – and in a weird way, gives us control of the violence and brutality that we are subjected to.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Marc Hesker, Clinical Psychologist at The Summit Clinic in Highgate, explained: ‘The violence in Game of Thrones is of a very particular nature, in that it is primitive, gruesome and almost a caricature of violence itself.  Whilst the violence involves blood and blood letting, it almost always involves the loss of body parts, usually heads and limbs.

‘Whilst it is remarkably gratuitous, the viewer always knows that it is not real and the function of some remarkable stagecraft and makeup artistry.’

Why people love bloody Game Of Thrones scenes
Brutal death scenes might be hard to stomach but your control over whether or not to watch helps the brain in a positive way (Picture: HBO)

‘When viewing this show the audience is able to escape into a world of violence and revenge which enables the viewer to rid themselves of aggressive fantasies and wishes,’ the pro continued. ‘Because the story involves two or more sides (families), at war the viewer can take sides according to their own interests and personal history, and in viewing the violence, experience relief when a particularly hated figure is killed off in the most fantastically violent way.’

So when you laughed when Viserys was burned alive with molten gold when he was being whiney about deserving a crown? That horrific moment The Mountain gouged out the eyes of the Viper in a trial by combat? THAT wedding we’re still stunned over? It’s all good.

Even the sad goodbyes have their reasons and cause an effect that could ultimately be of benefit you – even if it is just to get away from reality for a bit.

‘As in the case of Eddard Stark in the early stages of the program, his death by beheading at the behest of a fanatical new young king, allows the audience to feel sad and distressed with the option to look at the severed head on a spike or look away,’ Hesker added.

The Viper is defeated by the Mountain (Picture: HBO)
While it’s horrible to watch, it aids in getting rid of violent fantasies and wishes (Picture: HBO)

‘Either way there is escapism as the viewer always knows it is not real.  In a world were political and religious violence is on the increase, the vicious aggression in GOT can serve as pure escapism.’

‘Others, may simply refuse to watch it, and then too there is the capacity to reject the violence in a state of vitriol.  All round, in one way or another is serves everybody.’

Of course, they’re not just chucking in all the blood and gore for the good of our health – Dr Daria Kuss, who specialises in Cyberpsychology, reveals that the show’s content releases chemicals in our bodies that not only make us feel better about ourselves, but also maintains our attention throughout each episode run.

Why people love bloody Game Of Thrones scenes
The news comes just as the eighth and final series starts (Picture: HBO)

‘Game of Thrones has captured people’s attention for a number of years now. Brutal character deaths may contribute to the show’s success, violence captures people’s attention – it makes their bodies release adrenaline, their heart rate increase, and focus on what is being showed,’ Kuss explained. ‘Research indicates that the gorier the content, the higher the attention focus, the less likely people are to look away.’

‘In their study of sociomoral disgust, Rubenking and Lang found that people react much quicker and stronger to core disgust (including bodily fluids, gore and death) relative to socio-moral disgust (including unacceptable human behaviours, i.e., betrayal and lying). For GoT this means that the higher the bloodshed and the more violent the deaths depicted, the more attention-grabbing the show becomes.’

So that could prove useful when installments sometimes clock in at more than two hours apiece.

There you have it – you can now officially watch Game Of Thrones relatively guilt-free, and not feel bad as we watch something sickening happening on TV and get a kick out of it.

But it’ll make pulling a sickie the next morning after staying up all hours to watch it a tad less convincing than it was before.

Sorry, guys.

Who is still alive in Game of Thrones season 8?

Game of Thrones has become well-known for its surprise deaths and killing off key characters, and as we prepare to enter the final season it has become clear that nobody is safe.

The Night King has destroyed part of the Wall and the army of the undead is closing in on Westeros and it’s unlikely that all of our favourite characters will make it out alive.

Some of the main season 7 deaths included Lady Olenna Tyrell, Petyr Baleish and Thoros of Myr, and more are expected to crash out of the series when the battle between the living and the dead gets underway.

Cersei Lannister, Euron Greyjoy and Jorah Mormont are among some of the favourites to die in the final season, while Jaime Lannister and Daenerys Targayren aren’t too far behind.

Here is a list of all of the characters who are still alive as we prepare for season 8.

Who is still alive in Game of Thrones?

Despite the surprise deaths of Ned, Catelyn and Robb, the Starks still have some key members alive as we enter the final season.

Sansa and Arya Stark reunited in season 7 and many fans are hoping that they will now last to the end of the series and help rebuild Winterfell.

They were also joined by their brother Bran Stark in the most recent series, although his future is left less clear, with many suspecting he could be the Night King.

Cersei is currently the Queen of Westeros and has refused to help defend against the Night King and his army, but her brother Jaime has disobeyed her and gone to fight alongside Daenerys and Jon Snow.

Several characters are expected to return in the new season including Melisandre who left Westeros in season 7, as well as Robin Aryn, and Yara Greyjoy who is currently being kept prisoner by her uncle Euron Greyjoy.

Game Of Thrones star Jerome Flynn has hinted his character might not survive season eight.

Fans are steeling themselves for the final season to see if their faves live or die.

Bronn might be one of the ones biting the dust this season if we read into Flynn’s recent comments.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press at the premiere in Belfast, he said: ‘Bronn’s a determined type. He’s either going to get his castle, or he’s going to die getting it.’

Asked if the actor was happy to still be alive and kicking in the final season, he replied: ‘I can’t deny there’s a part of me that wanted to make the end.

‘But I was so happy… I mean, I didn’t expect to make 3 seasons, let alone 8, so… yeah.’

Of course he could just be talking about season eight in general rather than the finale, but still – we don’t have a good feeling about this.

However Bronn fans might take some comfort in the fact that he’s nowhere near the top of the list when it comes to who is most likely to die this season.

According to bookies Paddy Power, Cersei Lannister looks certain to be a goner at 1/50, with Euron Greyjoy close behind with 1/33 odds of being killed off.

Odds to die, listed in order of likelihood.

1/50 – Cersei Lannister
1/33 – Euron Greyjoy
1/8 – Jorah Mormont
1/8 – Jaime Lannister
1/8 – Lord Varys
2/9 – Daenerys Targaryen
2/9 – Melisandre
1/3 – The Hound
2/5 – Tyrion Lannister

The cast were put through the wringer this series as almost everyone was involved with a huge battle sequence.

The cast have spoken out about what a tough experience it was shooting the scenes, with Game Of Thrones director David Nutter revealing everyone on set had to bring their A Game.

Revealing that past full-on war scenes have been ‘incredibly exhausting’ for him as director, he added to Metro.co.uk: ‘I can’t say that it’s more draining or less draining to be the director of the episode, but I will say that we’re all in the same boat, actors and director, when it comes to really bringing our “A game” to the fore.

Why people love bloody Game Of Thrones scenes

‘Battle scenes are just incredibly exhausting for all concerned. ‘Having said that, they are, at the same time, sometimes tedious – because there’s so much minute detail to deal with, from both an acting and directing standpoint.

‘Horses, armaments, special effects are all vying for our attention and energy, in a lot of cases, and it’s true that it’s exhausting trying to lasso all of these elements into a coherent whole.’

Game Of Thrones,
(Picture: HBO)

The final season of Game of Thrones is finally here and fans will find out the fate of their favourite characters.

The Night King has destroyed part of the Wall and his army of the undead is now descending on Westeros ready for war.

Fans have just six episodes left to enjoy but they are set to be longer than before and feature more action and drama than we’ve seen previously.

Many characters are likely to die in the battle while others could see themselves actually get a surprise happy ending, and possibly even a seat on the Iron Throne.

If you’re looking for a cheap way to watch season 8, as well as the earlier seasons then here is everything that you need to know.

How to watch Game of Thrones for free

There is no way to watch the whole season for free if you’re looking to watch them live.

You can get a 7-day free trial of the NowTV entertainment package, which would let you watch the first two episodes without paying anything.

Then you would just need to pay £7.99 to have access to the service for another month to cover the length of the rest of the series.

If you want to watch the whole season for free then you best chance would be to wait until the season ends and then get the 7-day free trial and binge-watch the whole series.

The only problem you will have is trying to avoid spoilers while you wait.

Line Of Duty season five cast shot
Line of Duty season five is proving hugely popular already (Picture: BBC)

Line Of Duty season five is underway, and already viewers are on the edge of their seats just two episodes in.

The Jed Mercurio-penned series is proving as nail-biting as ever – and as popular, with the first episode of the series pulling in 7.8m viewers to make it one of the biggest shows of 2018 so far.

We’ve still got a way to go, though, so how much more do audiences have to look forward to on a Sunday night?

Here’s what you need to know.

How many episodes of Line Of Duty season five are there?

There are six episodes in the current season of Line Of Duty.

Episode three is airing on BBC One on Sunday night at 9pm, meaning we have three more weeks’ worth to look forward to.

It’s due to air for the next three weeks at the same time, meaning the finale is due to hit screens on the bank holiday weekend of Sunday 5 May.

If you’ve missed any episodes, you can catch up with them via BBC iPlayer.

What is Line Of Duty season five about?

Stephen Graham as John Corbett in Line Of Duty season five
AC-12 are facing a particularly brutal gang this time (Picture: BBC)

Without giving too much away for those who may not have seen the first two episodes yet, the current series focuses on a crime group who have links with corrupt police officers, and who are targeting police officers.

They’re lead by John Corbett (Stephen Graham) – who’s been described as the series’ most dangerous villain yet – and his sidekick Lisa McQueen (Girlfriends star Rochenda Sandall) – but the series has already delivered twists and turns galore.

It also marks a change of pace for the show, which for the first time is turning its attentions to an organised crime group rather than an individual.

‘I want to look at the personal lives of all the regulars in series five,’ Mercurio said after series four had aired.

‘They’ve taken a backseat in this series, so it would be good to explore that side of things a bit more. The regulars are definitely up for doing more.’

Which Line Of Duty characters have been in the show since series one?

Line Of Duty season five
Line Of Duty only has a handful of characters who have been in all five seasons (Picture: BBC)

Line Of Duty is showing no sign of slowing down as its fifth series continues on BBC One.

The Jed Mercurio-penned show has already delivered some shock twists (be warned this link contains spoilers), left us asking so many questions and serving up possibly the show’s most dangerous villain of all time in the shape of John Corbett (Stephen Graham)

While fans of the show have come to realise nobody is safe in Line Of Duty terms, there are those characters who so far have survived to make it all the way to season five.

So just who has hung in there since the show first began? Here’s what you need to know…

Which Line Of Duty characters have been around since series one?

So far only three characters have made it this far from the first series of the show in 2012.

The lucky trio who have dodged danger are Martin Compston’s character DI Steve Arnott – despite a close shave in the last series – Adrian Dunbar’s Ted Hastings and Vicky McClure’s Kate Fleming.

According to IMDB they have all appeared in 29 episodes of the show, the number which would bring us right up to the end of the current series.

Whether or not this is a hint that all three will make it to the end of the series unscathed remains to be seen – as it’s been made fairly obvious before that nobody is safe when it comes to Line Of Duty and the cast live in fear of being killed off.

Adrian explained: ‘People often think we must know in advance – from Jed or our agents – how many episodes we’ve been booked for in the next series. ‘But you don’t really know. You open the first script not knowing if it’s going to be “Jason Watkins Time.”

‘And, I’ll tell you, the more you have to do in early episodes, the more fearful you are that it’s building up to you going out with a bang. ‘We’re all in it together until Jed pulls the trigger.’

Sophie Turner has marked the start of Game Of Thrones season eight in the best way.

The final season starts in a matter of hours, and Sophie shared a throwback photo with fans to mark the occasion.

Sophie, who plays Sansa Stark, posted an Instagram snap of her having a power nap between takes.

She said: ‘In honour of the final season of Thrones premiering tonight ….Here’s a picture of me asleep on set.’

In the jokey photo Sophie is see lying down under a blue blanket, her mouth wide open as she catches some Zs.

While it was an innocent post on the actress’ part, fans started speculating that it is a hint that Sansa isn’t going to survive the final season.

Noting that she looked ‘dead’ in the photo, one fan commented: ‘DOES THIS MEAN THAT SANSA IS GONNA DIE’ – all caps and everything.

‘Spoiler alert lol’ another reaction read.

One GoT fan posted: ‘Girl if this is a pic of you dead on set I’m blocking you! Don’t play with me.’

But not everyone thought it was a sign of Sansa meeting an untimely demise, with one fan replying: ‘Taking a nap before taking the throne.’ We like this version better.

She’s not the only cast member to share one more memory as season eight gets underway.

Emilia Clarke posted a behind-the-scenes photo of herself in full Daenerys get up hugging one her dragons Drogon – or green screen made up to look like Drogon.

She said: ‘Me and my baby (dragon) (Drogon) just very excited for you all to see #season8gameofthrones which if I’m not mistaken begins….now.’

She added the hashtag ‘buckleupkids’ to really ramp up the excitement.

We’re not surprised Sophie felt compelled to catch some Zs on set given the intense battle scenes the cast had to take part in for the new episodes.

Star Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, admitted the amount of work involved left her ‘broken’ by the end of it.

‘Nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.

‘It’s night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn’t stop.

‘You can’t get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there’s so much to do that nobody else can do… there are moments you’re just broken as a human and just want to cry.’

Game Of Thrones returns 15 April on Sky Atlantic. Seasons one to seven are available on NOW TV.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins has lost another recruit after Andrea McLean was forced to pull out of the show after a hypothermia scare.

The Loose Women star, 49, was the oldest celeb to take on the challenge of the SAS drills but unfortunately the horrific weather took its toll on the star after abseiling a cliff facing downwards and she was rushed away for medical attention.

Initially her team mates, including Jeremy Irvine and AJ Odudu and Sam Thompson, attempted to keep her warm and surrounded her with their body heat.

But by then it was already too late, and the alert was raised as she began to get drowsy.

She was heard telling the others: ‘I’m so cold, I haven’t stopped shivering, my legs, my arms, everything is shaking.’

Ant then alerted the medical team on stand-by to get her off the mountain, and after being kept under observation and her temperature dropping to a dangerous low, it was decided she wanted to leave.

Speaking to Ant Middleton before exiting the show for good, Andrea was in remarkably good spirits as she came to terms with her decision.

Smiling as she gave over her armband, Andrea told Ant that she didn’t want to carry on, and said: ‘In my head I’ve made peace that I’m done.’

In response, Ant told her: ‘You pushed your limits to a whole new stage. You’ve done extremely well and you should be extremely proud of yourself. Andrea – it’s been a pleasure.’

Andrea has not had it east on the gruelling show, which is putting celebrities to the test as they go through exhausting and life-threatening SAS-style tasks.

After breaking down in tears in the first episode, admitting that previous traumas had come back to haunt her, Andrea’s perseverance did not go unnoticed.

Speaking after her stint in Chile, Andrea said the show left her at her most vulnerable, and said: ‘There were moments that were very hard. In life when something hurts, it’s easy to stop. But this taught me to keep going.’

She added that she hoped her appearance would inspire others of her age to work harder and to not feel underestimated.

In tonight’s episode, the team started by playing Murderball with a huge tyre in thick and icy mud, before climbing up a mountain.

Once they got to the top, they had to abseil down again – facing the ground the entire way.

Line Of Duty series 5: Do we really know who H is? All the burning questions we have after episode 3

$
0

Have AC-12 finally found H? (Picture: BBC)

Line Of Duty appeared to reveal who H is as a raid went south in the latest episode.

Corbett (Stephen Graham) made a bold attempt to get to the corrupt police officer at the head of the OCG (that’s Organised Crime Group in case you can’t remember) by staging an armed robbery.

But the situation spiraled out of control when the police were sent on a wild goose chase to a supposed ambush elsewhere.

The biggest surprise came when the supposed mastermind H turned up at the scene and told the OCG about the trackers on their stolen goods.

Corbett shot the man and when he was down he was revealed to be DCS Lester Hargreaves (Tony Pitts) wearing a balaclava.

Hargreaves first appeared in series two when he questioned Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) after the death of Georgia Trotman.

He was also seen in the first episode of series five working alongside Sam Railston (Aiysha Hart), Steve’s former flame.

Hargreaves later died of his injuries in hospital so AC-12 won’t be getting any answers from him, but his surname does start with ‘H’, the codename AC-12 have been hunting all along.

Here are the questions we have after episode three.

Does Lisa really not know who H is?

When Corbett tried to get Lisa (Rochenda Sandall) to tell him who the mysterious person messaging them was, Lisa said she had no idea and wanted to keep it that way. Was she telling the truth?

Why was Ted so keen to send officers to the ambush?

A ‘status zero’ call came in during the raid (which turned out to be fake), and despite Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) being reluctant to send her officers to the scene of the ambush, by-the-book Ted (Adrian Dunbar) insisted that officers should respond to the status zero instead. His decision meant that they were unable to arrest Corbett and the gang. Was he trying to mess up the operation on purpose?

Ted – we’re watching you, fella…(Picture: BBC)

Is Hargreaves H?

It would wrap things up neatly if he was, wouldn’t it? Even before his death he was pulling the strings getting his officers to stage a fake status zero call so he could be in the same area as Corbett’s raid. But we’re only three episodes in, and the H plot line has been running since the beginning. Hargreaves being the main man would be a bit of a let down.

Is Gill Biggeloe trying to get Hastings sacked?

Gill (Polly Walker) claimed there were rumours going round that Ted is a sexist dinosaur before, bizarrely, laughing it off, adding that if he brought down Corbett she could make the speculation disappear. Then later she tried to get him to consider retiring as he isn’t pulling his socks up.

We didn’t float up the Lagan on a bubble, Gill – what are you up to?

What is Gill up to? (Picture: BBC)

Why was Ted hiding his laptop?

Maybe Gill has good reason to go after Ted. The Superintendent was seen wrapping up a laptop in bubble wrap before marching off with it. Why does he want rid of it? Was he using it to contact the OCG?

Did Corbett kill Hargreaves?

Corbett claimed he aimed low to wound Hargreaves so he would be able to be questioned, but the DCS died of his gunshot wounds. Did Corbett make a mistake, or did the Balaclava Men get to Hargreaves in hospital to make sure he kept his mouth shut?

Sam popped up again concerned that her boss Hargreaves had gone missing (Picture: BBC)

Is Ted’s ex wife in danger?

Realising that he is deep trouble for killing Hargreaves, Corbett fully went rogue and decided to bring down bent coppers his way. He told Steve that ‘this is all on you’ before turning up at Hastings’ ex-wife’s home pretending to be Steve. Despite her not letting him in, Corbett forced his way inside and the episode ended with him pulling on a balaclava and shutting the door. He’s killed once, is he about to do it again?

Line Of Duty airs Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.

Victoria met Florence Nightingale as an outbreak of cholera ran through London (Picture: ITV)

Warning: Article contains spoilers for episode four of Victoria series three

After wallowing in politics for the last few episodes, Victoria delivered a gut-punch of an instalment.

The fourth episode, Foreign Bodies, touched on the cholera outbreak in London which Victoria (Jenna Coleman) was left to face alone as Albert (Tom Hughes), still upset with her, ran for the Chancellorship of Cambridge University.

In a change of tone human stories were at the centre as the queen and her subjects battled life and death.

The monarch was torn between keeping herself and her family safe and projecting the right image to her people by being among them.

Choosing the latter, she met people who had been struck down by the illness and ran into a familiar face – a nurse by the name of Florence Nightingale (Laura Morgan).

Her appearance was nothing more than a short scene with Her Maj. Keeping it brief was well played by the show.

Any longer and it would have become gimmicky – viewers are well aware of who Florence is and what she went on to achieve. Plus she would have been in danger of upstaging the queen.

What did upstage the queen this week though was the sad death of Skerrett (Nell Hudson). Poor Nancy, only just married and expecting a baby, tragically succumbed to cholera herself leaving behind a devastated Francatelli (Ferdinand Kingsley).

While it will be a wrench to see her go it makes sense given where the character is now. Part of her popularity was her closeness to the queen and the similarities the two women shared.

We said a sad goodbye to Skerrett (Picture: ITV)

It would be strange to follow her after she left the queen’s service, running a household with Francatelli as they expected their first child. It would be like shoehorning in a spin-off. And the alternative is to gradually phase them out without fanfare. Skerrett is worthy of a far better exit, and sad as this was, it was fitting.

The final moments saw Victoria and Albert in an intense staring match, the queen slowly revealing her husband’s chest – a familiar body, not foreign – before a passionate make-up sesh followed. We wouldn’t be surprised if Victoria was pregnant again next week.

Victoria airs Sundays at 9pm on ITV.

House Lannister family tree ahead of Game of Thrones season 8

Cersei Lannister, Jaime Lannister and Tyrion Lannister in front of the Lannister sigil in Game of Thrones
(Picture: HBO)

The Lannisters are one of the most powerful families in Westeros and they have been ruling the Seven Kingdoms since Joffrey received the crown in season one.

They have developed a reputation for wiping out any houses that try to challenge them and they stick by their house words that ‘a Lannister always pays their debts’.

In season one the family is mostly united in their ambition to rule Westeros but conflicts start to form as the rumours of Cersei and Jaime’s relationship begins to grow.

The family falls apart following Joffrey’s death, which Cersei believes was carried out by her brother Tyrion.

Only a few members of the main Lannister family remain but they all have very different ambitions and allegiances and it’s not clear if any of them will survive.

Game of Thrones family tree for House Lannister
(Picture: hbo/metro.co.uk/ Myles Goode)

Tywin Lannister

(Picture: HBO)

Tywin (Charles Dance) was the Lord of Casterly Rock and the head of the Lannister family at the start of Game of Thrones.

He is the father of Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion, but his wife Joanna died when Tyrion was born.

Following the death of Robert Baratheon , Tywin became Hand of the King to Joffrey and then Tommen, which meant that he had a lot of power in King’s Landing.

He usually chaired the small council and arranged alliances and marriages to strengthen his families power in Westeros.

Tywin died in the final episode of season 4 when he was shot twice by his son Tyrion after he escapes from his prison cell.

Cersei Lannister

Cersei Lannister wearing black in King's Landing in Game of Thrones
(Picture: HBO)

Cersei (Lena Headey) is the daughter of Tywin and the twin sister of Jaime and the sister of Tyrion.

Viewers are introduced to her as the wife of King Robert Baratheon but it soon becomes clear that she has a sexual relationship with her brother Jaime.

It then becomes common belief that Cersei’s three children are from her relationship with Jaime instead of being the kids of Robert.

She becomes the new Queen of Westeros following the death of her son Tommen.

Jaime Lannister

(Picture: HBO)

Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is the son of Tywin and the brother of Cersei and Tyron, and he later becomes the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.

We discover in season one that he has a relationship with his sister Cersei and is the father of her three children.

In season 3 Jaime loses his right hand after it is chopped off by Locke, who serves House Bolton, and he later covers his stump with a golden hand.

Unlike Cersei, Jaime has a close relationship with Tyrion and he even helps him escape from prison after being charged with the murder of King Joffrey.

Following the revelation that the White Walkers and undead are coming to attack Westeros, Jaime decides to leave Kings Landing and instead fight alongside the living.

Tyrion Lannister

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister
(Picture: HBO)

Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is the youngest child of Tywin and is the brother of Cersei and Jaime.

He has dwarfism and is disliked by his father and sister who both blame him for his mother’s death, as she died when he was born.

He is later married to Sansa Stark but they never consummate their marriage, and he is then accused of murdering King Joffrey after he is poisoned on his wedding day.

Jaime helps his brother escape but Tyrion ends up killing his father Tywin before leaving Westeros to avoid his execution.

He is now the Hand of the Queen for Daenerys Targaryen and he has become one of her closest advisers.

Joffrey Lannister

Who has been on the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones since season 1? Joffrey Baratheon Provider: HBO Source: https://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/cast-and-crew/joffrey-baratheon
(Picture: HBO)

Known to the public as Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) it soon becomes clear that him and his siblings are actually the children of Cersei and her twin brother Jaime.

Following the death of King Robert in season one, Joffrey becomes the new King of Westeros.

Joffrey was present during the Battle of the Blackwater but didn’t carry out any fighting himself.

He later ended his betrothal to Sansa Stark and instead got engaged to Margaery Tyrell to strengthen the alliance of their families.

He dies in season three after being poisoned on the day of his wedding to Margaery.

Myrcella Lannister

(Picture: HBO)

Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free) was sent to Dorne in season 2 after Tyrion Lannister arranged an alliance with House Martell, which would involve her marrying Trystane Martell when they were older.

She doesn’t appear again until season 5 when Cersei sends Jaime Lannister and Bronn to find her and return her home.

Doran Martell agrees to let her travel back to King’s Landing as long as her engagement to Trystane continues and that he travels with them.

Ellaria then kissed Myrcella as she said her goodbyes, but her lips was covered in poison and Myrcella dies in the arms of Jaime while they are on the boat travelling back to King’s Landing.

Tommen Lannister

Tommen Baratheon sitting on the Iron Throne (Picture: HBO)
(Picture: HBO)

Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) was a minor character for most of the early seasons of Game of Thrones, but he became more prominent following the death of his brother Joffrey.

As the new King of Westeros he is quickly guided by his grandfather Tywin and a marriage is arranged with Margaery Tyrell.

Following Margaery’s death at the hands of his mother, Tommen commits suicide by jumping out of his bedroom window.

Other Lannisters

Kevan Lannister

Kevan Lannister (Picture: HBO)

Kevan (Ian Gelder) is the brother of Tywin Lannister and is well experienced with wars and armies, working as one of the main officers during the war of the five kings.

He arrived at King’s Landing following Tywin’s death, but later made his return to Casterly Rock after being dissapointed with Cersei running the small council instead of King Tommen.

He later returns as Tommen’s Hand of the King when Cersei is arrested by the Faith Militant, but then dies when Cersei destroys the Sept of Baelor.

Lancel Lannister

Lancel Lannister (Picture: HBO)

Lancel (Eugene Simon) is one of Kevan’s sons and therefore a cousin of Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion.

He originally served as a squire for King Robert Baratheon, but after suffering an injury during battle he disappeared while carrying out his recovery.

The character reappeared in season 5 after joining the Sparrows, a religious movement in King’s Landing.

Lancel is sent to retrieve Cersei when she doesn’t show up for her trial but instead he discovers wildfire planted underground with candles nearby.

He is too late to stop the flame and dies in the explosion.

Game Of Thrones season eight kicks off Monday 15 April at 2am and will be repeated at 9pm GMT on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV, while seasons one to seven are also currently available on NOW TV.

Footage from The Mandalorian received a standing ovation (Picture: Disney)

The Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian has been met with a hugely positive reaction.

An early look at the Disney+ series was screened for fans at the Star Wars Celebration, with three minutes of footage being shown.

The series, starring Pedro Pascal, apparently received rapturous applause when the clip was over.

Jen Yamato from LA Times, who was at the event, tweeted: ‘Standing ovation for the about 3-min featurette glimpse of THE MANDALORIAN that Star Wars Celebration fans just got to see.

‘Set “about five years after Return of the Jedi,” per Jon Favreau, the Disney+ series will introduce new planets, species, starships to the galaxy.’

Game Of Thrones star Pascal plays the titular character, who travels alone on the outskirts of the galaxy.

While the featurette didn’t play for those tuning in via the livestream, Star Wars did share a few official photos from the series, including Gina Carano’s character, former Rebel trooper Kara Dune and Karl Weathers as bounty hunter Greef Karga.

Describing the next film, director JJ Abrams said: ‘This movie doesn’t pick up immediately after the last movie. Some time has gone by, this movie is an adventure the group goes on together.

‘One of the great things about the movie was the dynamic of the characters, they’re just the most wonderful together.’

Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) are all back for the finale of the Skywalker saga, as are Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux) and Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata).

Meanwhile, Billy Dee Williams – who hasn’t appeared in a live-action Star Wars film since Return of the Jedi in 1983 – is back to play Lando Calrissian, while the late Carrie Fisher will be in the film as General Leia Organa.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is out 19 December.

Mark Gatiss left viewers in tears on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins as he revealed how he lost both his mum and sister to cancer.

In the latest episode of the brutal SAS training show, the Inside No 9 and Sherlock star appeared in an ad break to appeal for the show’s cause, Stand Up to Cancer.

During his tape relived the fond memories he had with his family before they were diagnosed and ultimately passed away from the disease.

‘It’s an extraordinary thing to say, but one of my happiest family memories was the week that my mother was dying,’ he said.

‘My sister and my brother and my cousin and I, lots of people we sat around the bed and just laughed and told stories about her, and to her, and just remembered stuff.’

Cared for at home by his sister, Mark was noted that his mother was about to die when she ran out of the room.

‘My dad was in the shower and he was deaf as a post, and she was yelling “dad come now” and then she died in front of us. It’s literally awful in every sense,’ he explained.

Mark then dealt a brutal blow when he revealed that his sister also died around Christmas of the same disease, only just after she was diagnosed of breast cancer.

Cracking through the tears, he said: ‘It just seems so completely unfair that it was happening again so soon, but that’s the truth of it.’

Viewers were left heartbroken at the actor and writer for what he had gone through – and sent their love and well-wishes after he made the video in order to aid the Stand Up To Cancer appeal.

The final season of Game of Thrones is now underway and things are not looking good for some of our favourite characters.

The Night King has been a constant threat looming over Westeros and now he looks set to kill anybody who gets in his way.

As leader of the White Walkers, the Night King has now taken control of one of Daenarys’ dragons and destroyed part of the wall, allowing his army to descend on the seven kingdoms.

Early signs of the impending attack were made in the very first episode of show when viewers saw an undead girl kill two members of the Nights Watch.

Here is everything you need to know about one of Game of Thrones’ biggest villains.

Who plays Night King in Game of Thrones?

Two different actors have played the Night King in Game of Thrones, although the character didn’t appear onscreen until the fourth episode of season four – Oathkeeper.

Richard Brake was the first person to play the Night King, portraying the role for two episodes in the fourth and fifth seasons.

His appearances included Hardhome in season five, which saw Jon Snow clash with the white walkers, with the episode receiving seven Emmy nominations.

Richard was unable to return for the fifth season because of scheduling conflicts, as he was filming for the drama The Bastard Executioner.

He was then replaced by Vladimir Furdik, who had already been working for the show as a stunt performer in season five.

Vladimir has also performed stunt work for Skyfall, Spartacus, Hercules and Snow White and the Huntsman.

In 2013 he was the stunt double for Christopher Eccleston and Malekith in Thor: The Dark World.

Speaking about playing the role Furdik told Entertainment Weekly: ‘Every director has a different vision of how to play him.

‘Dan Weiss and David Benioff want him to be like a cold man, some of the directors want to show that there’s some human in him.’

Who is the Night King?

The Night King is considered to be the leader of the White Walkers and he also controls the dead, using them to form his army.

The history of how he was created was revealed to Bran by Leaf, who was one of the children of the forest.

She revealed that the Night King was initially created to fight back against the first men, the original humans to inhabit Westeros.

A first man was captured by the children of the forest and a dagger made out of dragonglass was pushed into his chest, which turned his eyes blue and made him the first White Walker.

A winter that lasted for a whole generation, known as the Long Night, saw the White Walkers descend on Westeros and create havoc, before they went back into hiding waiting for a chance to strike again.

Winter has now returned in full force across the Seven Kingdoms, and it has seen the Night King and his army return.

The series producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss recently spoke about what the Night King is and why he doesn’t talk.

Game Of Thrones season eight kicks off Sunday 14 April on HBO and Sky Atlantic, while seasons one to seven are currently available on NOW TV.

Has ‘H’ been rumbled in a Line of Duty typo? (Picture: BBC)

*Warning: This article contains spoilers from Line of Duty series five, episode three.

Line of Duty fans think they may have uncovered a huge clue pointing to the identity of crooked copper ‘H’ after spotting a spelling mistake at the beginning of episode three, series five.

Tonight’s instalment saw undercover gang boss John Corbett, leader of the Balaclava Men, taking orders from who we presume is the man pulling all the strings and taking out AC-12 from the inside.

But while Corbett was typing away, the unknown stranger behind the screen wrote: ‘Eastfield depot is definately high risk.’

But was it a red herring or a blunder? By now fans of the police drama have learned everything is intentional when it comes to Jed Mercurio.

‘That misspelling – an error, or “definately” a clue to H’s identity? #LineOfDuty,’ wrote one viewer which was echoed by another: ‘Did anyone else notice the mis-spelling of definitely (definately) in the online chat between ‘H’ and the OSG? There are no accidents with Jed Mercurio’s clever writing. Where does this clue lead?’

‘I thought ‘definately’ in the email trail was a clue. Hastings is so obviously educated it couldn’t be him,’ guessed a third.

Interesting…

Elsewhere, we lost another huge character tonight as Corbett gunned down Hargreaves who was hiding behind a Balaclava mask, prompting further speculation he’s the elusive ‘H’ – as if Mercurio would ever let us down with such an anti-climax.

And then the episode closed with Corbett turning up at Hastings’ ex-wife’s door, pretending to be DS Steve Arnott, breaking into her house and, to be honest, it’s not looking likely she’ll be getting out of there alive.

Unsurprisingly, we’ve been left with another steep mountain of questions, which you can read here.

Line of Duty continues next Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.

Jeff Brazier had to apologise to his Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins co-stars for ‘getting my c**k out’.

The celebs had to have a quick wash after a grueling task that saw them wrestle for a tyre in thick mud.

The TV presenter did the polite thing and forewarned everyone around him that he would have to get naked to clean up.

He said on Sunday’s show: ‘Guys I’m really sorry I’m gonna have to get my c**k out. Is that alright? Just pretend I’m your brother or something.’

Walking around totally starkers, he quipped: ‘It’s not looking as well as it usually does.’

On Twitter after the episode, Jeff joked that he didn’t realise he would have to bare all physically as well as emotionally.

He said: ‘When they said you’ll have to bare everything on #SASWhoDaresWins I thought they meant vulnerability and pain. Little did I know they’d be showing that. #Shrivel.’

His fellow contestant AJ Odudu replied: ‘Ding dong’, prompting Jeff to apologise to her.

Also in the episode, Jeff told cameras: ‘There are men bigger and stronger than me, but I’ve got a huge determination.’

Meanwhile Loose Women’s Andrea McLean had a tougher time of it as she was struck down with hypothermia and was forced to drop out.

Andrea had to have medical attention as she couldn’t stop shaking from the cold after abseiling down a mountain.

She was heard telling the others: ‘I’m so cold, I haven’t stopped shivering, my legs, my arms, everything is shaking.’

Star Ant Middleton then alerted the medical team on stand-by to get her off the mountain, and after being kept under observation and her temperature dropping to a dangerous low, it was decided she wanted to leave.

Before exiting the show for good, she said: ‘In my head I’ve made peace that I’m done.’

In response, Ant told her: ‘You pushed your limits to a whole new stage. You’ve done extremely well and you should be extremely proud of yourself. Andrea – it’s been a pleasure.’

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs Sundays on Channel 4.
