Jeopardy guest breaks record for most money won in a single game

James Holzhauer crushed it on Jeopardy set a brand new single-game record with a huge win.

On Wednesday night’s episode of the US game show, James landed a huge win of $131,127 (£100,000) in a single game.

The 34-year-old’s huge total last night makes it his tenth win in a row on the show. The lucky lad also broke the record for the most money banked on Jeopardy in a single night.

He was the previous holder of the record by the way, winning a pretty decent $110,914 (£85,000), bringing his total winnings to $697,787 (£540,000). We’re not jealous at all…

James, from Las Vegas, is such a master at this game that he is now in four out of the top five slots of the highest wins on the show. Contestant Roger Craig, from 2010, is in fifth place with $77,000 (£60,000).

But he may have an ace up his sleeve. The contestant is in fact a professional sports gambler which could go some way to explain how he’s been smashing it on Jeopardy so far.

In his appearances James opted for questions with larger amounts attached, and makes risky larger bets on Daily Doubles.

However his strategy paid off in a big way and he now has a tidy sum at his disposal over the weekend.

A video posted on YouTube put together all of James’ highlights from the episode as he cleaned house.

He risked $60,013 ($46,000) on the category about 20th Century Literary Characters, and the answer: ‘His first name refers to the ancient district in which you’d find the Greek capital; his surname is a bird.’

The question was: ‘Who is Atticus Finch?’ the main character from To Kill A Mockingbird.

Answering the question right, he dedicated his performance to his late grandmother, blowing a kiss in tribute to her.

Why are there so many scheduling gaps between The Big Bang Theory’s new episodes?

The Big Bang Theory is nearing its end (Picture: CBS)

The end of The Big Bang theory is drawing ever closer as we prepare to say goodbye to Sheldon, Leonard and the gang.

For now though the final series is still unfolding on E4 ahead of the show bidding farewell to the airwaves in the US next month.

The show took a break from screens during the midseason break, and returned in February – but since then it’s been absent from the airwaves a few times.

We’re getting our Big Bang fix this week but other weeks have been Big Bang-free – so just what’s going on?

Why are there so many scheduling gaps between The Big Bang Theory’s new episodes?

There’s no official answer from Channel 4 but it could have something to do with the show following the scheduling pattern in the US.

Although the series returned from its midseason break in February, it has missed out a few weeks in the US schedules since then, including at the end of February.

Both The Big Bang Theory and its spin-off Young Sheldon also took a brief break from US screens in mid-March.

The show’s taken a few breaks in recent months (Picture: Getty Images)

Since the UK is a few episodes behind the US, it’s possible that they could be spacing things out a bit in order to catch up with the US – meaning we would potentially get the final episode at the same time as them.

But none of this has been confirmed, of course.

Metro.co.uk has contacted E4 for further comment on this – but for now the good news is that the show is at least on tonight and next week, with new episode The Laureate Accumulation, on Thursday night at 8.30pm.

It looks as though that will be the last break for a while as well, as new episodes are also set to air for at least the next three weeks at the same time.

When will the final ever episode of The Big Bang Theory be aired?

An airdate has not yet been confirmed for the show’s last ever episode.

However the episode airing tonight is 18 out of 24 in the series, so we don’t have far to go.

We also know the finale is a double bill – meaning that chronologically, if it covers episodes 23 and 24, you could potentially expect it on Thursday 16 May.

But none of this has been confirmed at all – so we’ll just have to keep watching the schedules for news.

Love Island 2019: When is the dating show back for series five?

This summer will see another batch of boys and girls move into a plush Mediterranean mansion for two months in the hopes of finding love.

That’s right, the nation’s favourite dating show Love Island will be back for a fifth series – and here’s everything we know so far about it.

When does Love Island return?

There’s been radio silence from producers about the exact date of Love Island’s return but if last year was anything to go by, it’ll probably kick off at the beginning of June.

Contestants on Love Island

Who are the contestants?

Nothing has been revealed about the singletons set to find love in summer, however Love Island has said this year’s Islanders will be a more diverse bunch the before.

Following calls from viewers to see a variety of body shapes on the show, bosses reportedly were on the hunt for wider representation.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday: ‘One thing that keeps coming up is the lack of body shape diversity. Viewers want to see girls and boys with bodies they can relate to.

‘Sexy singles come in all shapes and sizes and this is what the viewers will see this year.’

Where will the villa be?

The Love Island villa moved to its current location in series three and has been there since but it’s not known whether producers want to shake things up this series.

The not-so-humble abode boasts a hot tub, swimming pool, roof terrace and outdoor dining area (among other features) and is sometimes available to rent – for the steep price of £3,000 a week.

Here’s why Friends is the show you just can’t quit – according to a psychologist

Watching Friends is a reliable way to relax your brain when anxious (Picture: NBC Universal)

It’s official – Friends is there for you in ways you didn’t even know they were, as a psychologist has revealed that it could have soothing qualities for those suffering with anxiety.

The TV show has been off-air for 15 years, yet somehow Friends still has a near constant audience tuning in to watch numerous repeats, and become the perfect background noise for our spring-cleaning or pre-drinking on a night out.

Even our hangovers the next morning just wouldn’t be right without one quick trip to Central Perk or Monica’s apartment. So why can we just not quit our six favourite coffee addicts?

Marc Hekster, Clinical Psychologist at The Summit Clinic in Highgate, has revealed the show actually calms your brain, and told Metro.co.uk: ‘Having worked for over a period of 20 years with those experiencing anxiety, I can conclude that among other factors, it is the repetitive and relational nature of programs such as Friends and Big Bang Theory that will be doing the trick.’

‘Anxiety is in fact the human minds’ alarm system, indicating that something is wrong, and usually the result of pent up and unprocessed feelings,’ Hekster said.

‘The feelings build-up, is not dissimilar to a pressure-cooker and will always need to find a way out.  If they can’t find a way of being expressed, the alarm system triggers, and it is usually not very pleasant for the person suffering with the anxiety.  Few people who suffer from anxiety will have much good to say about it, and will want to escape it.’

They’ll be there for you to calm you down (Picture: NBCU)

So the perfect escape? Whacking on a 20-minute show about six besties living in New York. (Friends. We’re talking about watching Friends.)

‘[Watching Friends] is about an experience of repair, of watching the characters in the show repeatedly having worries, which then get repaired and soothed, usually in the context of other relationships in their lives,’ Hekster reveals.

‘Complex problems are made the focus of each episode, and then they are resolved within the relationships which are the essence of the shows. It is pure escapism, excellent, bring it on,’ Hekster continued.

FRIENDS -- Season 10 -- Pictured: Courteney Cox as Monica Geller, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, David Schwimmer as Dr. Ross Geller (Photo by NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)
Friends support system is vital for the character’s to grow, but also to calm the viewer (Picture: NBC)

So while we sit and wonder if we’re going to get that promotion at work, how we’re going to pay bills and whether or not that guy we like is going to text us back, Rachel and Ross’s ‘will they won’t they’ relationship provides a distraction and a minor reassurance that things can be solved relatively easily.

As it turns out, watching it so much you can mouth the lines to each other comes back to a very basic instinct you had as a kid – so acting like Rachel when she watches Days Of Our Lives is common and understandable.

Hekster explained: ‘This is about the healing nature of repetition. We see this in children, resolving child-like feelings and emotions by doing the same thing over and again – often to the incredulity of their parents.’

The gang’s easy-fix problems every week become easy to depend on. (Picture: NBC)

‘Yes, it is soothing to see the same outcome every time and know you can depend on it. This is at the heart of human development,’ the pro continued. ‘So, when grown-ups are anxious, they can have child-like feelings of fear and worry, and these can be soothed by repetition. Bring on Friends repeats for the 10th time.’

However, while it could act as a quick boost for the brain, it can also trick you into believing that complicated things can be solved with relative ease, and is therefore unrealistic to rely on as a guide to life.

‘On the negative side…none of it is very real, and how can life ever be so… kind of perfect,’ Hekster added. ‘It can’t.’

‘Whilst a quick fix for milder forms of anxiety, those suffering with more severe anxiety may find less solace in such programs,’ he warned. ‘But that is another matter.’

Friends is available on Netflix now and airs on Comedy Central.

Kaley Cuoco shares behind the scenes picture of The Big Bang Theory
Kaley Cuoco has been getting emotional about The Big Bang Theory ending (Picture: Instagram)

The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco has been getting emotional about the final season, and we know how she feels.

Kaley, who plays Penny, shared a photo of the main cast sharing a laugh behind-the-scenes as they taped a new episode.

In a message on Instagram, the actress reminded fans that there are only a few episodes to go before the end.

She said: ‘TONIGHT don’t miss an all new ep @bigbangtheory_cbs ! only a few curtain calls left!! Cue tears!!!’

The Big Bang Theory is coming to an end after 12 seasons, and Kaley’s co-star Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard, revealed a show first with a look at the sitcom’s writers’ room.

Posing for a group shot with the brains behind TBBT’s scripts, Johnny said: ‘The illustrious @bigbangtheory_cbs Writer’s Room, where (at least) 278 stories have been imagined and built by the incredible minds of (L-R) @goetech @billprady #andygordon #mariaferrari.’

He added the sad detail: ‘Note the empty white board behind us as there are no longer any future episodes to discuss. A first in 12 years’.

We’re not sure we’re ready for the last ever episode, and apparently neither is anyone behind-the-scenes, who have previously admitted they still don’t quite know how it will end.

Executive producer Bill Prady told TV Insider: ‘There are still pieces of the [finale] we have to figure out. We know some of the “what”. We don’t know all of the “how”.

‘There’s a lot of talk about wanting to feel that the gang’s world will continue as viewers know it to be. Of all the feelings we’ve talked about, that’s one that we all like.’

Meanwhile, showrunner Steve Holland added that they are ‘not ruling anything out’ for the finale, adding that ‘it will focus on our main characters’.

One person who is ready is star Kunal Nayyar, who admitted that he wants to burn Raj’s wardrobe when they’re done.

‘I need a little bit of a break, as much as I’d miss playing that character,’ he told audiences at The Contenders Emmys, hosted by Deadline, adding: ‘I’m ready to move on to different things now.’

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays on CBS and on E4 in the UK.

Michelle Obama gushes about Beyonce in emotional video following Netflix documentary Homecoming

Michelle Obama has posted a video reinstating her love for Beyonce following the singer’s recent Netflix documentary Homecoming.

The former First Lady of the US posted a video directed at the singer, praising her new Netflix film as both a ‘celebration and a call to action’.

In the video, Michelle says: ‘Hey queen! Girl you have done it again. Constantly raising the bar for us all and doing it flawlessly.

‘I’d say I’m surprised but I know who you are. I’ve seen it up close and personal. Girl, you make me so proud and I love you.

‘I also love that your new Netflix film, Homecoming, is informed by the black leaders, thinkers and poets who’ve paved the way for folks like us.

‘I love that it’s both a celebration and a call to action. And I love that you’re using this film to inspire the next generation of history makers and record breakers who’ll run the world in the years ahead.

‘So to you, my dear friend, I just want to say: Keep telling the truth. Because you can do it in a way that no one else can.’

The pair have both been engaging in a love-in of late, after Beyonce recently wrote the tribute for Michelle after she was listed in Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2019.

In the tribute, Beyonce wrote: ‘Loving Michelle Obama wasn’t much of a choice. It was something that came naturally, because of how she carried herself. Because she resembled us and was moving in spaces where, as black Americans, we weren’t exactly meant to be, she seemed so powerful.’

If you want to be cynical about all this, Barack Obama and Michelle announced last year how they’re set to start producing films and TV shows for Netflix – so it’s probably a cheeky plug too.

Beyonce’s Netflix documentary is revolved around her Coachella 2018 performance, where she reunited with former Destiny’s Child bandmates.

A special live album was also released to coincide with the documentary, featuring the entire setlist from the performance.

Transgender actor Ian Alexander reveals how Netflix’s The OA helped his family accept him

Ian Alexander has explained how Netflix’s The OA helped his family accept he was transgender.

The 17-year-old Vietnamese-American actor can be seen starring as Buck Vu in the sci-fi Netflix series, which recently released its baffling second season.

Speaking on The Ellen Show with show co-creator Brit Marling, Ian explained how he came out as transgender aged 13, after having doubts about his identity and seeing people from the community for the first time in his life.

Ian said: ‘It wasn’t until I was 13 when I met trans people for the first time that I was like, “You’re allowed to do that?”

‘That really gave me the courage to come out and accept who I was.’

Ian, however, admitted his family ‘didn’t take it very well’ – and it wasn’t only until he starred in The OA that they accepted his identity.

‘So I come from a religious family so it was a little hard for them to accept at first,’ Ian said. ‘They were like “you’re too young, you don’t understand what this means”. They didn’t take it very well at first.

‘But I think being on The OA actually really helped them realise I can be happy and I can be successful as a trans person and as a queer person.

‘Being on set for The OA was the first time I heard my mum use my correct name and pronoun so that my heart soar and made me realise they can accept this and other people can accept this, and I can be fully accepted for who I am in this environment.’

If you thought The OA’s second season was bonkers, stars Ben Kingsley-Adir and Jason Isaacs have both teased how a third season will go in even weirder directions.

The OA season 2 is available to stream on Netflix.

Game Of Thrones final season deleted scene supports theory about Jon Snow and dragons

A deleted scene from Game Of Thrones season eight has given weight to a theory about Jon Snow and dragons.

The first episode of the final season saw Jon (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) take a spontaneous dragon flight to clear their heads.

HBO has released a behind-the-scenes look at the episode, which includes a blooper that’s very interesting.

Not because of Harington slipping on the ice and swearing – funny though it is – but the line of dialogue he says just before that happens.

In the scene where he and Daenerys walk in the snow together post-flight, Jon tells Dany: ‘You’ve completely ruined horses for me.’

Then in behind-the-scenes footage he adds: ‘It almost seemed like he knew where I wanted to go.’

We – and Jon – now know that Jon is in fact a Targaryen, the son of Dany’s brother Rhaegar Targaryen and Ned Stark’s sister Lyanna.

Dragons can respond to the the will of the Targaryen they are connected to, amd he fact Jon sensed the dragon could pick up on his thoughts should suggest to Dany that Jon is more than he seems.

Season Premiere of the award-winning HBO Series.
Things are about to get complicated between Jon and Dany (Picture: HBO)

Game Of Thrones co-creator David Benioff added more context in the featurette, saying: ‘Only Targaryens can ride dragons, and that should be a sign for Jon.

‘It’s a major thing for her when she sees they have some kind of connection to him. They allow him to be around them.’

Co-creator Dan Weiss said: ‘Seeing Jon and Danny on the dragons together – it’s a Jon and Dany moment, but it also seeds in the idea that these creatures will accept Jon Snow as one of their riders.’

The season eight premiere saw Sam Tarly drop the bombshell to Jon about his parentage. What he’s going to do with the information remains to be seen, but given that he and Dany are now lovers, it’s going to complicate things between them.

However Kit previously revealed that the Mother of Dragons does learn the truth eventually.

‘Jon is someone who plays by the book. He cannot lie,’ Kit told TV Insider.

‘Finding out about Dany would be very hard for him.’

Emilia added that her character’s feelings for Jon will make the new all the more devastating.

She said: ‘Daenerys’ life long dream has been to avenge her family and claim her rightful seat on the Iron Throne.

‘She truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep.’

Game Of Thrones airs Sundays at 2am and Mondays at 9pm on Sky Atlantic. Seasons 1-7 are available on NOW TV.

HBO has responded after Donald Trump used a Game Of Thrones-inspired meme to push his politics, and they aren’t happy.

The US president tweeted a meme in reference to special counsel Robert Mueller’s heavily redacted investigation into Donald Trump and Russia which was released today.

Trumps post in response, using Game Of Thrones style font, read: ‘No collusion. No obstruction. For the haters and the radical left Democrats, game over.’

HBO has since released a statement (via Mashable) which, essentially, asks for the president to stop using their show’s iconography.

The statement reads: ‘Though we can understand the enthusiasm for Game Of Thrones now that the final season has arrived, we still prefer our intellectual property not be used for political purposes.’

This isn’t the first time HBO has asked Trump to stop using Game Of Thrones memes, after he previously used the show’s font to post a meme reading, ‘Sanctions are coming’, based on House Stark’s slogan, ‘Winter Is Coming’.

At the time, HBO responded: ‘How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?’

She wrote: ‘Devastated for Mya. The pain of her passing has been awful.

‘Mya and I grew up together over the past five years and had an extremely close relationship.

‘I will always cherish our friendship and the moments we spent together beautiful girl. I am devastated and heartbroken.’

Innes shared photos of the pair laughing together with their arms around each other.

Millie Inbetween ran for five series from 2014 to 2018.

Before her tragic death, Mya-Lecia had been planning to get back into YouTubing when she finished her GSCE’s.

She told Tresa Magazine: ‘It’s hard at the moment since I’ve got my GCSEs in about two months, but as soon as that’s over I really want to get back into the habit of posting on YouTube weekly and really engaging in that.’

The talented teenager also teased new acting projects, saying: ‘I have been filming a few things here and there but everything’s a bit hush hush at the moment so I can’t really speak about it yet but be on the lookout because there’s going to be some amazing projects out real soon!’

CBBC announced her death in a statement: ‘We are so sorry to have to tell you that Mya-Lecia, who you will know from Millie Inbetween and Almost Never has, very sadly, died.

Sir David Attenborough’s Climate Change: The Facts leaves viewers terrified as show calls for action

David Attenborough kicked off the show (Picture: BBC)

Sir David Attenborough presented a special show to highlight the effects of climate change on our planet, which has garnered an alarmed response from viewers.

Climate Change: The Facts began with Attenborough directly addressing viewers, saying: ‘Standing here in the English countryside, it may not seem obvious but we’re facing a manmade disaster on a global scale.

‘In the 20 years since I first started talking about the impact of climate change on our world, conditions have changed far faster than I ever imagined.

‘It may sound frightening but the scientific evidence is, if we have not taken dramatic action within the next decade, we could face irreversible damage to the natural world and the collapse of our societies.

Climate Change David Attenborough
A graph showing the planet’s temperature rise over the past 100 years (Picture: BBC)

‘We’re running out of time, but there is still hope. I believe if we better understand the threat we face, the more likely it is we can avoid such a catastrophic future.’

The show turned to the drastic rise in the planet’s temperature over the past hundred years, with records backed up by the Met Office, NOAA, the Japan Meteorological Agency and NASA.

Professor Peter Stott, from the Met Office and the university of Exeter, said: ‘We have temperature records going back a hundred years, there are dips and troughs and there are some years that are not as warm as other years, but what we’ve seen is this steady and unremitting temperature trend.

’20 of the warmest years on record all occurred in the last 22 years.’

Along with highlighting how political leaders have shunned the issue aside to their own benefit, like Donald Trump branding it a ‘hoax’, the show spotlighted the technologies which could change our planet’s future.

One particular hope was the flight of the first electric plane across the English Channel, and with renewable energy sources now becoming more affordable alternatives to greenhouse gases.

The show proved an alarming wake up call to some viewers.

Closing the show, Attenborough says: ‘We now stand at a unique point in our planet’s history. One where we must all share responsibility both for our present well being and for the future of life on Earth.

Susanna Reid stunned as serial killer Joanne Dennehy writes ‘manipulative’ letters to men from prison

Susanna Reid was left stunned by a serial killer who wrote ‘manipulative’ letters to men while she was in prison.

Joanne Dennehy was jailed in 2014 after pleading guilty to a series of killings in 2013.

The psychopath killer murdered three men, Lukasz Slaboszewski, 31, Kevin Lee, 48, and John Chapman, 56, in and around Peterborough over a 10-day period.

In a new documentary, the Good Morning Britain presenter looked Dennehy’s murders and her conviction and trial by speaking to the people involved with the case.

Investigators spoke of Dennehy’s ‘magnetism’ which ‘drew’ men to her, even when she was behind bars. Dennehy even proposed to a follower of hers in 2014.

Susanna got to read letters she had written to men outside prison – which she could not show on screen for legal reasons – and was shocked at what she read.

She explained: ‘I have seen letters she’s written to multiple men outside prison, winning them over with intimate details about her life and teasing them with clues about her crimes. It seems Joanne Dennehy may never stop manipulating men.’

However experts revealed that she had a hated the opposite sex.

Over two weeks in 2013, 30-year-old Dennehy murdered three men and attempted to kill two others. At trial, she showed no remorse for her victims, and became one of only three British women ever to be sentenced to spend the rest of her life behind bars. ‘There is something in her psyche that does indicate a deep hatred towards men’, said forensic psychiatrist professor Jeremy Coid.

The newsreader went on: ‘Men I have spoken to who have met Dennehy talk of a similar experience when in her company.’

She also spoke to John Treanor, the father of Dennehy’s two children, who said he felt she deserved the death penalty.

The Big Bang Theory has become as beloved for its smaller roles as its main characters, with Wil Wheaton being a particular standout as a heightened version of himself.

Nostalgia for the sitcom is at new heights considering its coming to a close with season 12 next month, and actor Will Wheaton has spoken about the journey of getting accustomed to playing himself on the show.

Wheaton has since explained how he separated himself from his character by imagining him as the version of him which didn’t get married, but that became more complicated as the storyline developed.

Speaking to TV Insider about the arc from Sheldon’s nemesis to friend, Wheaton said: ‘When we transition from that Wil Wheaton from being a villain to ally and part of the “friend” group, he started to become more like who I am.

‘That was an adjustment. First, I had to adjust to being a villain to, basically, being myself. It took me about ten years, but I could finally make that separation and be comfortable about being a heightened version of myself.’

Wheaton is very thankful for the show generally, adding: ‘It has meant so much. It’s been such an incredible gift to work with these magnificent actors, this phenomenal writing staff, and just the most amazing and professional crew with which I’ve ever worked.

‘We could spend our entire careers hoping to have one experience like I have working on TBBT.’

Co-star Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny, recently posted a picture teasing the next episode which is promising all the emotions.

All the RuPaul’s Drag Race queens ranked from meh to yaaaas after Snatch Game

Lady Gaga
Snatch Game was a damp squib (Picture: VH1)

Ah, Snatch Game. In days of RuPaul’s Drag Race old, it was the pinnacle of comedic talent, with everyone waiting to see who would be the funniest. But now, I tune in to see who will have the most catastrophic time, and this series, that was a hard fought race.

There were way more flubs than triumphs on Snatch Game At Sea – the sea bit being tacked on so that Ru could promote a gay holiday website. And honestly, this episode’s standout star was Ru’s ability for plugging – managing to squeeze three mentions of his book, Guru, being available at all fine bookstores into two minutes? Werk.

However, while Snatch Game was a damp squib, we were treated to a lip sync for the ages, and a runway moment that will go down in her-story. And after that stalemate finale, all rating rules go out the window as we rank the queens.

8. Plastique Tiara

Plastique Tiara Drag Race
Plastique Tiara (Picture: VH1)

Plastique was by no means the worst in the Snatch Game – at least she put some effort into Lovely Mimi – but Ru was right, it was very similar to her nail tech role in Why It Gotta Be Black Panther.

And her runway look was also incredibly polished. However, Plastique just didn’t stand out for me, and in a week of chaos, I needed to be slapped across the face with something.

7. Vanessa Vanjie Mateo

Vanessa Vanjie Mateo Drag Race
Vanessa Vanjie Mateo (Picture: VH1)

Controversial opinion – I don’t care if Vanjie comes out in a leotard every week. It’s a look, and her entire ensembles are different enough to keep me interested. I loved that dramatic cape, and she looked beautiful. And sorry Michelle, she can’t help it if all she has is a suitcase full of bodysuits.

However, her impression of Danielle Bregoli was just not up to par. Bhad Bhabie is one of the most memeable people on the internet, and the usually hysterical Vanjie made it boring somehow. Must try better.

6. A’Keria Davenport

A'Keria C Davenport Drag Race
A’Keria C Davenport (Picture: VH1)

If A’Keria brought it harder on the runway, she’d have rocketed up the charts, because I loved her Tiffany Haddish. Yes, it was basically just A’Keria in a pussybow blouse, but maybe that’s because A’Keria is Tiffany Haddish in drag.

She chose the funniest and most well known quips from Girls Trip and made Ru laugh – and that’s what all of these queens should come to Snatch Game to do.

5. Yvie Oddly

Yvie Oddly (Picture: VH1)
Caption: Yvie Oddly (Picture: VH1)
Provider: VH1

OK, Yvie’s Snatch Game was terrible. She basically showed up as a less fun Yvie in dreadlocks and said she was Whoopi Goldberg. She deserved to be in the bottom.

But since nobody went home, I can do what I want with the rankings, and Yvie’s lip sync was so great she gets boosted up the chart. The splits! The backbends! The headstand! The fully realised routine!

The other queens should be shaking after watching Miss Cirque du Soleil show what she’s got, because she could be this year’s lip sync assassin.

Also, teaming a David Bowie jumpsuit with a Peg Bundy wig? Into it.

4. Shuga Cain

Shuga Cain Drag Race
Shuga Cain (Picture: VH1)

I am not Shuga Cain’s biggest supporter – there hasn’t really been anything from her so far this season that has excited me, and last week, she basically dropped off the radar. But that eggplant gown was so beautiful, she has totally redeemed herself. I’m glad that Shuga has had this moment on the runway, because I reckon that will define her time on Drag Race.

And she was one of the best at Snatch Game too. I agree with the judges, she should have pushed Charo a whole lot further. But at least she had the look and the voice down.

3. Nina West

Nina West Drag Race
Nina West (Picture: VH1)

Nina is the only theatre comedy queen in the competition, so it was really her time to shine – and shine she did. Nina took two characters that many people wouldn’t be too familiar with – Harvey Fierstein (who I know) and Jo Anne Worley (who I don’t) – and made them funny. It was campy, it was over-the-top, and it was very Nina.

This theme continued onto the runway, and while her sequinned look wasn’t as polished as some of the other girls’, it was pure Nina. I’m happy the momentum is chugging along for this queen.

2. Silky Nutmeg Ganache

Silky Nutmeg Ganache Drag Race
Silky Nutmeg Ganache (Picture: VH1)

If we were playing by the rules, Dr Ganache would be number one, but I’m playing by all stars rules here, so sorry.

I don’t even know who TS Madison is, but I giggled at every joke Silky threw out there, and it made me want to know more. She had done her research, and it paid off – and Silky more than deserved the win.

However, refusing to accept Yvie’s apology was just petty. Silky has been as brutal with the insults as her rival, and not accepting her heartfelt apology may come back to bite her.

1. Brooke Lynn Hytes

Brooke Lynn Hytes Drag Race
Brooke Lynn Hytes (Picture: VH1)

Yes, I am aware Brooke Lynn as Celine Dion was the worst Snatch Game of 2019, and possibly numerous seasons of Drag Race. But we’re not going to talk about that.

What we are going to talk about is that runway. OH. MY. GOD. I haven’t screamed at Drag Race so much since Sasha Velour removed her wig to reveal a rose garden. That afro-throwing reveal was drag at its highest, and Brooke Lynn must be commended for going so extra when she knew anything less would be a death sentence.

I can’t remember a time when Ru and Michelle were hollering so much during a runway, and it was totally deserved. Iconic.

RuPaul’s Drag Race continues at 9pm ET/PT on Thursdays on VH1, and drops on Netflix the following morning.

Miriam Margolyes reveals she’s bought her coffin already as she opens up about dying fears

Miriam Margolyes poses in a coffin for her documentary Dead Good Adventure

Miriam Margolyes has already got her funeral planned out, right down to the coffin she wants to be buried in.

The actress has had one made exactly to her liking, but admits it’s still in the shop.

‘I haven’t collected it yet, I’ve got to go and get it, it’s waiting for me. It’s all packed up.,’ she told Metro.co.uk.

‘I have to go and get it and get it up the stairs to the attic.’

Although dying is a bit of a taboo subject for most of us, the actress has faced her fear and knows how she wants to be remembered when she passes away.

The 77-year-old said: ‘I think I’d like my funeral to be a party really, for my friends. So I shall set aside some money for that.

‘I hope people will miss me and be sad that I’ve died because they won’t see me again. But they will be glad that they’ve known me I hope, and that’s what I want. That people will notice that I’m not there any more.’

She feels we struggle to discuss dying because there is ’embarrassment’ around the subject.

Miriam Margolyes in Dead Good Adventure
Miriam looks at different attitudes towards death in a new documentary (Picture: BBC)

‘It’s a very deep human loathing of death,’ she explained. ‘I think we all have it and you can tell from literature and poetry that as long as people have reflected on life, they have feared death. It’s part of being alive, being scared of not being alive.’

Miriam is fronting a new documentary looking at how we talk about death, which she described as ‘personal therapy’ for helping her overcome her fears about death.

In the two-part series she meets a 19-year-old who is battling cancer, and a group of people in the US who refuse to believe they will one day die.

‘I’d love to meet someone who has never died!’ Miriam joked.

‘I met incredible people and also quite wacky people. They had ideas that I found hard to go along with, and that’s helped me make up my mind about what I think about it.’

And she insists that none of the approaches she encountered stuck with her after the making the films, and will stick firmly to her own method of simply living well.

‘I think keeping yourself fit and funny is the best way,’ Miriam said.

Miriam’s Dead Good Adventure airs 21 April at 9pm on BBC Two.

Game Of Thrones’ bosses claim Sansa Stark has changed the most from seasons 1-8

Game Of Thrones showrunner David Benioff has suggested that Sansa Stark is the character who has undergone the biggest amount of change across eight years.

‘She started out so naive and was forced to undergo the most brutal possible education into the world but emerged from it and became this powerful figure and kind of against all odds,’ said David.

‘I don’t think too many people watching the first season had any expectation that Sansa would become the woman that she became.

‘And part of that is the story and part of that is Sophie Turner and the phenom she turned out to be as an actress.’

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, David added: ‘We knew when we cast Sophie that she was this really good child actor but we had no idea she’d become the force that’s she’s become.

‘So if I had to pick one, I’d pick Sansa.’

Game Of Thrones returned to TV screens on 14 April but the show aired a major Daenerys Targaryen continuity error in a blink-and-you’d-miss-it moment.

Fans have spotted that the character, played by Emilia Clarke, wore completely different wigs in the scene where she was gearing up to meet Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) family for the first time.

One eagle-eyed viewer pointed out that Daenerys’ hair changed in a snapshot and shared the evidence on Twitter with screen grabs, writing: ‘Dany is wearing different wigs during her arrival in Winterfell.’

Although the pictures show Daenerys sporting her iconic blonde locks, it’s clear that her braids have been wrapped differently in the two different shots.

Oops.

RuPaul’s Drag Race airs runway reveal so iconic even Ru is gagged

$

There are some moments in RuPaul’s Drag Race that go down in her-story.

Violet Chachki’s reversible tartan reveal. Sasha Velour lifting up her wig for a waterfall of rose petals to fall out. Detox in black and white body paint at the reunion.

And now, Brooke Lynn Hytes can take her place in that hall of fame.

**Warning – major Drag Race spoilers ahead**

The queen saved herself from a disastrous Snatch Game with a runway reveal that had even RuPaul screaming ‘you better motherf***ing work, b****’.

Brooke Lynn, who has been so strong all season 11, was a shoe-in for dismissal after her impersonation of Celine Dion in Snatch Game At Sea. We say impersonation, because there’s no other words for that performance that aren’t overly cruel.

She knew that after failing to pin down Celine’s accent, mannerisms or, well, anything really, she needed to pull it out of the bag on the main stage – and boy, did she.

Brooke Lynn turned onto the runway in a black afro and a sequinned black and pink kaftan with thigh high boots – a pretty strong look. But then, reader, came the reveal.

With a twirl, off came the kaftan and the afro, to show Brooke Lynn in all her Nomi Malone realness – and pretty much every Drag Race viewer lost their goddamn minds:

Brooke Lynn Hytes reaction

Unfortunately for Brooke Lynn, her Snatch Game was so poor that she had to be in the bottom two, alongside fellow standout queen Yvie Oddly. But the gagging hadn’t stopped for the night, as the rivals pulled off one of the strongest lip syncs in recent RuPaul memory.

The extremely flexible pair pulled out all their tricks along to Demi Lovato’s Sorry Not Sorry, with Brooke Lynn doing the splits and death drops a-plenty, and Yvie showing off headstands and backflips.

Like Shuga Cain said, come on, Cirque du Soleil.

Of course, the lip sync resulted in a double shantay you stay, much to the shock of Silky Nutmeg Ganache, and the safe queens looked shook.

Ru warned: ‘Ladies in the back, I hope you’re taking notes. We got a couple of lip sync assassins in our presence.’

Viewers were equally as impressed, calling the lip sync ‘life-changing’, as one tweet rightly stated: ‘THAT LADIES IS HOW YOU LIPSYNC FOR YOUR MOTHA F***IN LYYYYFFFFEEEEE.’

Looks like this series has stepped up a notch.

RuPaul’s Drag Race continues at 9pm ET/PT on Thursdays on VH1, and drops on Netflix the following morning.

With five episodes left of the final season of Game Of Thrones, Richard Madden has shared an adorable throwback to the first table read of the show with Kit Harington and Alfie Allen.

‘#TBT This is Kit, Alfie and I after our first read through of S1 Ep1 of Game of Thrones about 10 years ago. KIDZ,’ shared Richard alongside the picture in which the three of them look really, really young.

Little did they know what would happen to them in the future; of course only Kit and Alfie remain in the hit HBO show, with Richard’s Robb Stark being killed off in season three in the brutal Red Wedding episode.

Kit’s Jon Snow was also killed off in the season five finale where he was stabbed to death by Alliser Thorne but he was later resurrected.

Alfie’s Theon Greyjoy has decided to stand with the Starks against the White Walkers although it is not expected that that he will take the Iron Throne.

HBO recently released a batch of pictures from the second episode of Game Of Thrones season eight, as character relationships fracture ahead of the battle for Winterfell.

The first episode of season eight ended as Jaime Lannister arrived into Winterfell, locking eyes with Bran Stark for the first time since the first season.

He’s set to face a number of awkward encounters, having killed Daenerys’ father Aerys Targaryen, along with being Cersei’s right-hand man for years.

But in the newly released photos, we see Jaime facing Daenerys surrounded by armed soldiers. Will he be able to offer an explanation and sincere apology for his past crimes?

Amy and Sheldon swing Sweet Kitty in The Big Bang Theory
Was that the last time we’ll ever hear Sweet Kitty on The Big Bang Theory (Picture: CBS)

Suddenly the end of The Big Bang Theory feels very real as Sheldon and Amy may have shared their last rendition of Sweet Kitty.

The tune has become the go-to lullaby of Sheldon’s (played by Jim Parsons) and subsequently a favourite regular among The Big Bang Theory fandom, but during The Inspiration Deprivation – which also saw the return of Regina King, fresh from her Oscar – it hit us all that the tender scene may have been the first of many lasts.

While Amy (Mayim Bialik) was panicking that she’s been letting everyone down in her bid to win a Nobel Prize, Sheldon serenaded his wife with the musical interlude to calm her down.

It was the first time Sheldon sang for Amy, but fans have become familiar with the song which reminds us that he does have a little empathy in there somewhere.

And viewers could do with some of Sheldon’s comforting dulcet tones as they mourned the end of an era:

BIg Bang Theory fans mourn the end of Sweet Kitty

Among those in desperate need of some Sweet Kitty is Penny star Kaley Cuoco who revealed another behind-the-scenes snap of one of the final last ever recordings of The Big Bang Theory.

‘TONIGHT don’t miss an all new ep @bigbangtheory_cbs ! only a few curtain calls left!! Cue tears!!!’ she wrote and we hear her.

The Big Bang Theory is coming to an end after 12 seasons, and Kaley’s co-star Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard, revealed a show first with a look at the sitcom’s writers’ room.

Posing for a group shot with the brains behind TBBT’s scripts, he wrote: ‘The illustrious @bigbangtheory_cbs Writer’s Room, where (at least) 278 stories have been imagined and built by the incredible minds of (L-R) @goetech @billprady #andygordon #mariaferrari.’

He added the sad detail: ‘Note the empty white board behind us as there are no longer any future episodes to discuss. A first in 12 years.’

Jeremy Clarkson says goodbye to The Grand Tour as we know it
The Grand Tour fans are longing for Jeremy Clarkson because it’s Friday (Picture: Amazon Prime)

The Grand Tour fans are in mourning as they woke up on this sunny Friday morning to find that there hasn’t been a new episode of the motoring show released on Amazon Prime.

Last week, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May broke character to shed a tear as they said their farewells to the studio audience, which has been the unsung staple of both The Grand Tour and Top Gear.

After reflecting on the golden years last week, the JC’s lip quivered before he choked up as the trio waved goodbye to The Grand Tour ‘as we know it’.

On this Good Friday, petrol heads across the world are longing for the gang back:

The Grand Tour tweets

Thankfully, Clarkson recently revealed that he’s been hard at work on The Grand Tour season four ‘for a while’ as the show will break with tradition and follow the main man and his two passengers as they explore the world in a series of what will no doubt be perilous road trips covering the four corners of the world.

But before that, Jimmy will be the first to branch out with his first solo show on Amazon Prime for Our Man In… Japan.

And by all accounts it sounds like it’s going to be a ride already.

‘Japan is the most amazing place I’ve ever visited,’ he enthused, announcing his new jaunt.

‘Everything about it is a surprise: a boiled sweet, a bullet train, an unexpected ancient temple, and the challenge of eating a single edamame bean with chopsticks.’

The Grand Tour is expected to return to Amazon Prime in 2020.
