Jodie Comer cried as she accepted her Bafta (Picture: BBC)
Jodie Comer had a little cry as she accepted her Best Actress gong at the Bafta TV Awards 2019 tonight.
The 26-year-old actress, who picked up the accolade for her performance as Villanelle in the thriller Killing Eve, apologised for getting teary eyed as she took a moment to thank her supporters.
‘Wow, thank you so much Bafta,’ Jodie began. ‘I’m sorry, I’m the only one who’s turned on the waterworks.’
She continued: ‘Thank you Luke Jennings, thank you Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Phoeb, I feel so lucky, not only to say that I have worked with you, but to call you a friend.
‘You are the most talented person I know, thank you for being such an inspiration.’
Jodie also thanked Line Of Duty’s Stephen Graham before dedicating her win to her late grandmother.
‘Stephen, if I didn’t owe you a pint before, I definitely do now,’ she said. ‘Thank you for the generosity you showed me all them years ago.’
Killing Eve took home three Baftas (Picture: Rex Features)
Jodie continued: ‘Last but not least, bit of a personal one but I’d love to dedicate this award to my Nanna Francis, who sadly passed away the first week of filming, so she never got to see Villanelle.
‘She was the life and soul of everything, and when she was here she used to say to me, “You get it off me you know”.
‘And I just want to stand up here and say Nanna Francis, you were absolutely right all along. Thank you so much Bafta.’
Killing Eve also won the Bafta for Best Drama Series, with Fiona Shaw taking home the gong for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Carolyn.
Accepting her award, Fiona said that starring in the show ‘has been probably the greatest pleasure of my life.’
She added: ‘People have begun to suspect I am a spy, and I just want to thank the director Harry Bradbeer for that because he said, “No, no, you can’t play this part with an Irish accent.”‘
Louis Theroux has been praised for his latest documentary Mothers On The Edge (Picture: BBC)
Louis Theroux has been praised for his latest documentary Mothers On The Edge, which looks into mums experiencing mental health problems postpartum.
The filmmaker, who picked up a gong at tonight’s TV Bafta Awards, spent time in specialist psychiatric units in the hour-long film, where mothers experiencing serious mental illness live alongside their babies.
Immersing himself on the wards, Louis met women who have been admitted with a range of serious conditions, including depression, anxiety and psychosis, often triggered by birth or the strains of motherhood.
‘These are mums who are doing an amazing job, like really responsible, thoughtful, attentive mums, who confess that actually they don’t think they feel what they’re supposed to for their baby,’ Louis told the cameras.
‘They don’t think they feel any love for their baby.’
Viewers tweeted their respect for Louis and all the mums who bravely decided to take part in the documentary, with one even branding it award-worthy.
‘Total respect to the women involved in this documentary on post natal depression and psychosis,’ wrote one. ‘Louis Theroux has such a natural ability to ask direct and difficult questions in a disarming, respectful and kind way.’
Viewers tweeted their praise (Picture: Twitter)
Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘God this is heartbreaking. Thank you for bringing awareness and showing how horrendous this mental illness is #LouisTheroux.’
Louis presented the award for Specialist Factual at tonight’s star-studded Baftas ceremony, and even plugged his documentary by urging audiences to switch channels.
‘I don’t know if it’s a bit weird to mention this, but round about now on BBC Two I’ve got a documentary starting,’ he said.
‘So if you’re at home and, you know, a bit bored, you just wanna see what else is on. It’s called Mothers on the Edge.’
Mothers On The Edge is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Cersei Lannister has been one of the show’s lead characters since it first aired in 2011 (Picture: HBO)
*Game Of Thrones spoilers ahead, keep reading at your own risk.*
Let’s face it – Cersei Lannister isn’t the most pleasant character on HBO’s popular fantasy series.
She raised the murderous Joffrey (who is now thankfully dead and gone), let wildfire loose in King’s Landing, killing lots of innocent people, and has now beheaded Missandei, one of Daenerys Targaryen’s closest friends.
Then again, compared to some of the other characters – such as Ramsey, who chopped off genitals and played human hunting games – she’s not so bad.
Fans love to hate her, but who is the actress that embodies the fierce yet volatile queen?
Who plays Cersei Lannister in Game Of Thrones and what else has she been in?
Odds are Cersei Lannister will meet a grisly death before the series concludes on 19 May.
The character has been part of Game Of Thrones since the very first episode aired in 2011, and is played by British actress Lena Headey.
Lena shot to A list fame for her portrayal of Cersei, but has been in the industry since the early 90s.
She was born in Bermuda, where her father was stationed as a police officer, but the family moved to Yorkshire when Lena was five years old. Later, in her teens, Lena moved to London, where she was discovered by a casting agent while performing in a show with friends from school.
Lena hasn’t studied acting and was thrown into the deep-end with a role in Waterland, alongside Jeremy Irons in 1992.
Since then, she has taken on a wide variety of characters such as Dr Kathryn Jennings in The Cave, playing a lesbian florist in Imagine Me & You and Jane Austen’s Lady Catherine de Bourgh in the zombie version of Pride and Prejudice.
Other movie appearances include Mary Sandin in The Purge, Jocelyn in The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones and Julia Knight in Fighting With My Family.
Lena wears a blonde wig in Game Of Thrones, but actually has brown shoulder-length hair (Picture: Suzi Pratt/Getty Images for Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures)
Lena has also played TV roles, such as lead character Sarah Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Ava Wigram in the TV movie The Gathering Storm.
The fantasy genre clearly works for her; the Game Of Thrones star has done voice-over work for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia and Dishonoured, a video game where she voiced Callista Curnow.
After all, the young girl killed the Night King and Cersei should be no big task in comparison.
As for Lena however, the future looks bright.
Most recently, she played Wendy in The Flood (2018) and once Game Of Thrones wraps up, you can look forward to seeing her in Gunpowder Milkshake (to be released in 2020) and Crooks, which is still in pre-production.
But, for now, most of her fans are simply too focused on finding out whether the ominous ‘dracarys’ uttered by Missandei will lead to Cersei’s fiery demise.
Lord Varys has had a constant presence in Game of Thrones ever since the first series.
After initially serving Robert Baratheon, and then Joffrey, he later left King’s Landing with Tyrion Lannister to serve Queen Daenerys.
The character is nicknamed the Eunuch, as well as the Spider because of his web of contacts and spies around Westeros.
He has appeared in every season and has had a close relationship with Tyrion throughout the show.
Here is everything that you need to know about the actor who has played him over the last ten years.
Who plays Lord Varys in Game of Thrones?
Lord Varys is played by Northern Irish actor Conleth Hill.
One of his first acting roles came in 1988 when he played a pupil in the ITV crime drama Boon.
He then had appearances in Casuatly, Medics and The Bill in the early 1990’s.
In 2007 he appeared in six episodes of The lfie and Times of Vivienne Vyle as Jared, followed by a part in Peter’s Kay’s Britain’s Got the Pop Factor.
(Photo by David M. Benett/Dave Benett/Getty Images for Sky Atlantic UK)
More recently he has had parts in Foyle’s War Peter Kay’s Car Share and the 12 Monkeys TV series.
The actor usually has a full head of hair, but he has shaved whenever he is filming for Game of Thrones.
Conleth has also appeared in various movies, including the 2015 British thriller A Patch of Fog, and Official Secrets, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2019.
He has also been involved in numerous stage production in Belfast and London, and he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in 2001 for his performance in Stones in His Pockets.
Teasing her about learning lines and keeping up with a stellar cast, Karl hinted at how he’s been keeping her feet firmly on the ground throughout the hugely successful series.

— The Big Bang Theory (@bigbangtheory) May 12, 2019
Like any good reporter, Karl first tried his luck for a spoiler, asking what happened in the last episode but, fortunately for the fans, Kaley’s lips were sealed.
Then he went in a little harder, asking: ‘So, what was it like to work with such a great cast and always feel like, you weren’t really there?’.
And she replied: ‘You mean I wasn’t as funny as the rest of them? Thank you for pointing that out.’
He added: ‘You must have to really practise my lines,’ and when she confirmed that she didn’t, he added: ‘It shows.’
Karl went on: ‘So, now that the show’s ending, what are you going to do with all of your time?’
And when she told him she would keep acting, he replied: ‘Yeesh.’
The cast has already filmed their final scenes but while we’ll have to wait until May 16 to find out how the story ends for our heroes.
Kaley has been particularly emotional about filming the remaining episodes, but recently said she was happy about Penny’s conclusion.
‘I’m thrilled with [Penny’s] ending, yet beginning,’ she told Entertainment Tonight, hinting at a fresh start for the pharmaceutical rep.
‘There’s not anything catastrophic, it’s just beautiful,’ Kaley added. ‘And the characters are gonna live on in your minds and in your hearts, and I think that’s what is so special about it. It’s really touching.’

Paul Chuckle joined ‘furious’ and ‘disgraced’ Chuckle Brothers fans in calling out Bafta for failing to mention BBC star Barry in their tributes on Sunday night.
The segment, which featured over 60 names, was edited at the eleventh hour to pay tribute to English comedian Freddie Starr, who passed away three days ago.

Agreeing with a disgruntled fan on Twitter, Paul wrote after the show: ‘We received our Bafta’s ten years ago. [Barry] should have been mentioned @BAFTA.’
It followed an outcry from TV fans expecting to see BBC children’s TV actor Barry’s name in the annual segment.
‘You and Barry were such a massive part of all of our childhoods and that will never be forgotten,’ said one fan.
‘There’s never been another kids TV programme that comes close to Chucklevision.’
Others said they were ‘furious’ or ‘shocked’ and said it was a ‘farce’.
One viewer wrote: ‘Big shame on Bafta. Many of the people watching will have grown up watching you and Barry. You were legends of kids TV but a lot of adults’ secret indulgence.
‘…A legendary double act. Barry should have got a mention.’
In a statement, the mix-up was later explained by a spokesperson for Bafta to explain that Barry was featured at the Children’s Awards ceremony in November 2018 and names can only ever feature once, due to ‘limited time’.
Barry Chuckle, who was one-half of Chuckle Brothers double act with Paul for 50 years, died last August at the age of 73.

He added: ‘Congratulations to all involved. We can’t wait to get back to work. #ThisIsUs.’
Dan tweeted a trailer of the forthcoming highlights, promising share three more years of ‘us’.

He said it was created ‘almost like you a book, or a super-long movie,’ adding: ‘We’ve had this end in mind for a long time, so we’re able to plan for it, and try to make it feel like it’s a whole, as opposed to a series that’s going to go endlessly.’

Mama Elsa has sadly passed away, at the age of 84 (Charles Sykes/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)
Real Housewives of Miami regular Elsa Patton has died at the age of 84 after ‘a long illness’.
Affectionately known as ‘Mama Patton,’ the mother of RHOM star Marysol Patton passed away over Mother’s Day weekend in the US.
Marysol said she felt relieved that Elsa was finally free from a ‘horrible existence’ as she posted a tribute on Sunday.
Posting a throwback picture, Marysol wrote on Instagram Stories: ‘My mommy has passed but she is free from a horrible existence. Thank you for your prayers over the years.’
The family confirmed the news in a statement to PageSix on Sunday, saying that the support of the fans has ‘meant the world’ to the family.
Marysol wrote a tribute on Sunday, confirming the news (Picture: MarysolPatton/Instagram)
Elsa was a supporting castmember throughout the first two seasons of RHOM before getting her own online spin-off entitled Havana Elsa.
Nine episodes of the reality show, which launched in September 2012, followed Elsa as she launched her own coffee line.
However, the show was thwarted when Elsa suffered a serious fall at her home in March 2013.
Elsa suffered a serious brain injury after she was found unconscious in her bedroom.
After spending months in hospital, the reality star returned for cameos in the third season of RHOM.
Elsa’s husband Donald Patton died last February. Before her fall, Elsa and Donald were approaching a ‘messy divorce’.
Game Of Thrones conversation may have devolved into coffee cups and questionable plot decisions, but it’ll be very surprising if a beverage crept into shot among this episode’s burning wreckage.
Actress Emilia Clarke forewarned viewers to find the biggest TV you can for episode five, and the spectacle certainly delivered – with dragon fire reigning over King’s Landing just like Bran Stark’s vision dictated many seasons ago.
On top of the battle, however, this was the largest massacre in Game Of Thrones history for characters large and small. As we head into the final hour with only a few loose ends left, here’s all the questions we have remaining in the Iron Throne race.
So who died again?
Euron’s journey came to an end, it seems (Picture: HBO)
The first death emerged before the battle had even started. After Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) told Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) about Varys’ (Conleth Hill) doubts in her leadership, the latter was executed by the mother of dragons at the hands of Drogon.
At the outset of the battle at King’s Landing, The Golden Company army leader Harry Strickland (Marc Rissmann) was killed by Grey Worm’s (Jacob Anderson) spear, as the remaining Dothraki and Unsullied ripped through their forces.
In one of the best moments, Daenerys lives up to her mad queen potential by ignoring the bells signalling King’s Landing’s surrender and choosing to burn hundreds of innocent lives. This decision appears to anger Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Tyrion, and will surely be the key contentious point moving forward.
Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) is presumably dead after being stabbed through the chest by Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and left on a rock outside the walls. Jaime, however, is injured in the fight, and seeks out sister Cersei (Lena Headey) with blood dripping from his wounds.
The Hound (Rory McCann) finally confronted his brother Gregor Clegane on the crumbling steps of the Red Keep. Before they kickstarted Cleganebowl, Gregor aka The Mountain kills his saviour Qyburn (Anton Lesser) who attempts to stand in his way. The Hound and The Mountain both fight, before they both leap to their deaths into the dragon flames below amidst the scuffle.
The most notable death came at the episode’s conclusion. As the walls crumbled around them, Jaime and Cersei retreat underground, while she still carries their unborn child, and both cry into each other’s arms. The walls then collapse all around them, appearing to seal their fate.
Who died in episode 5?
Varys
Harry Strickland
King’s Landing citizens
Euron Greyjoy
Sandor Clegane/The Hound
Gregor Clegane/The Mountain
Jaime Lannister
Cersei Lannister
What was the point of The Golden Company army?
It’s elephants or nothing, Harry (Picture: HBO)
After they were touted as one of the most impressive armies around, The Golden Company’s impact on the show barely left a scratch. Leader Harry Strickland was wiped out in the opening minutes of the battle, while the rest were simply screaming fodder under dragon fire.
The show has had a problem in season eight of wiping out previously believed huge threats in one fell swoop. The White Walkers and majority of the Dothraki were swept aside swiftly in the battle for Winterfell, and now the role of The Golden Company feels particularly superfluous in light of their tiny significance in the final fight.
In other words, maybe those darn elephants would have been memorable, at least.
Where is Yara Greyjoy?
Could Yara play a big role next time? (Picture: HBO)
One notable absence was Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan), who was oddly not called upon by Daenerys to fight, despite knowing she was residing in the Iron Islands with a fleet.
It’s likely Yara will appear in the final episode. We’ve yet to see her reaction to Theon and Euron’s death, and with Daenerys and Jon Snow now in firm disagreement, Yara could be a vital ally for both of them. But which way will she fall?
Will Arya be the one to kill Daenerys?
Arya survives the battle, but for what purpose? (Picture: HBO)
Arya played the role of the hero once again as she attempted to help King’s Landing citizens flee from the collapsing buildings and wildfire, in some of the most stunning sequences of the entire show.
But why was such a point made about Arya’s harrowing journey through the wreckage? It could be a short-term ploy to make people believe the character will die, of course, but that isn’t how Game Of Thrones operates. Arya’s approach was a direct contrast with Daenerys as she rained hellfire from above, so could this provide the former motivation to kill the Mother Of Dragons?
Arya has rode off on a horse presumably back to Winterfell, and we can imagine Daenerys’ actions will ring alarm bells with Sansa (Sophie Turner). So could Arya be the silent assassin sent by her sister to wipe out the threat to the North if Daenerys becomes queen?
Will all the Stark siblings survive?
Is this what the endgame looks like? (Picture: Helen Sloan/HBO)
Interestingly, the Stark family are the only ones so far who haven’t suffered any major casualties in season eight. Arya, Sansa and Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) are all alive and kicking, and as a trio they’re arguably the most powerful family in Westeros.
The show has largely been about the growth of the Stark siblings from innocent youths to formidable leaders or warriors. Their hanging presence over Winterfell makes sense as a final note on their journey, but could they go onto claim the Iron Throne as a trio too?
Who will Bronn kill now?
Bronn looks to be back in the picture for the final episode (Picture: HBO)
Bronn was previously assigned to kill Jaime and Tyrion Lannister at the orders of Cersei, who promised a handsome reward. She’s now presumably dead, with Tyrion previously offering to pay double to spare his life in the form of Highgarden. But will Daenerys be so willing to allow Bronn his prize now Cersei’s dead?
Bronn’s purpose feels like it’s a key in the show’s endgame, especially as Tyrion isn’t exactly known for his fighting prowess. After seeing Daenerys wipe out so many civilians in King’s Landing, will Tyrion promise Highgarden to Bronn in return for the end of Daenerys before she completely loses her mind?
Who will take the Iron Throne?
Who will be running the show? (Picture: HBO)
It’s the ultimate question on Game Of Thrones, but it’s likely the last time we can ask it. The stage is set for one final round with the fantasy phenomena, which will presumably give us a decisive answer on who, if anyone, emerges victorious on the Iron Throne.
At the moment, it feels strongly geared towards the Stark siblings. Jon Snow doesn’t want the Iron Throne, or so he says, and Daenerys feels like a likely candidate for death considering her growing enemies. Or could it be someone completely left-field? Will Tyrion keep the Lannister line going? Or will Gendry suddenly make a reappearance again?
The answers are coming thick and fast in this final season, but will they prove satisfying when it comes to the lasting impression? We’re counting down the hours, and quietly dreading the outcome, already.
Game Of Thrones continues Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic. You can catch-up on episodes so far on NOW TV.
Of course, Piers jumped at the opportunity to weigh in on Alyssa’s latest campaign and described her as ‘deranged’.
During Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Piers asked: ‘Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous in your entire life?
‘Seriously, other than the fact that we didn’t win a Bafta last night?
‘A sex strike… what does that achieve? Women are no longer allowed to have sex to change a law. A, is that going to change a law? B, will it deprive women of having sex? Yes. Who wins here and who loses? I’m struggling.’
Susanna agreed with Piers and wasn’t too convinced by Alyssa’s plan, adding: ‘She sounds a little bit confused by it. I do think there’s a problem with sending tweets and not thinking much past that. That’s a trap and we don’t want to get into.’
Piers and Susanna are stumped by Alyssa’s sex strike (Picture: ITV)
Piers then jumped in: ‘She doesn’t think about many things, she’s a complete Trump deranger.
‘Alyssa if you want a sex strike, I think I speak on behalf of the male population of the world, we’re more than happy to give you one. No problem.
‘We weren’t aware we wanted to have sex with her anyway.’
Things got a little awkward in the studio when Richard Arnold chimed in and shared some details about his intimate life – and apparently lack of action at home.
Rich said: ‘If she needs any other notes on it, she can talk to my other half.’
Piers awkwardly sipped his tea while Susanna pressed: ‘Something to share with the group Richard?’

He replied sheepishly: ‘I’m not going to open the book that far Susanna. Let’s just move swiftly.’
But Piers wasn’t over it just yet and said: ‘I don’t think we can, [what a] moment.’
Richard wasn’t done though and he added: ‘I’m off to Tel Aviv today for Eurovision… a few men have left their wives at home,’ while giving a cheeky wink to the camera.’
Offering an explanation for his revelations: ‘I’ve had about four hours sleep, Charlotte, are we feeling a little brittle this morning?’
Erm, he might have some grovelling to do once he gets home.

After 10 long years, the finale of Game Of Thrones is finally here, and after a game-changing penultimate episode, the Iron Throne is everyone’s to play for.
***WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR EPISODE FIVE***
The new trailer for the last ever episode of the epic fantasy series has been sure to give next to nothing away, as the armys gather to praise their new queen.
But after burning thousands of innocent people alive, can the key players, including Jon Snow, Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister, really trust their new reigning queen, Daenerys Targaryen?
As her recognisable braids stand proud over her loyal servants, it’s pretty fair to say that at this point Daenerys has followed in her father’s footsteps and turned her once peaceful fight for leadership into one big, bloody mess.
And not only that, no one is safe as she defends her right to the throne.
Arya looks worried about the future of the Seven Kingdoms (Picture: HBO)
Now that people are aware that she’s not the rightful heir, and that it should be Jon, could Jon’s insistence that he’s willing to follow her to the end be held true?
Or will the always righteous warrior realise that the only way to be safe for sure is to do away with his queen/lover/aunt forever?
Has Daenerys won the Game Of Thrones? (Picture: HBO)
Meanwhile, following the loss of his brother and sister, is there any use in keeping around Tyrion? He’s hardly been of sound advice lately…
Alternatively, as the blood-covered Arya Stark looks on angrily at what has become of King’s Landing, could she once again take matters into her own hands and assume a role she never thought she was capable of?
After all, if you play the Game Of Thrones you win, or you die, so something tells us that the death count is far from over as we head into the epically long series finale that will give us our final answer.
Let the final game begin…
Game Of Thrones airs Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic.

Could Leslie Knope be returning to the screen? (Picture: Rex)
There is no one who can make an impossible task happen more than Parks and Rec’s Leslie Knope – so when we hear actor Amy Poehler is ‘Avengers-style ready’ for a reboot, it’s safe to say we got a little excited.
The actress, who has just returned to our screens for new Netflix film Wine Country, has been asked about a possible return to the town of Pawnee, Indiana for a Parks and Rec reboot ever since it left our screens four years ago – but now she’s saying she’s totally up for it.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Amy said: ‘[Series creator] Mike Schur, our captain, is working on like, 50 shows right now but I have my suit ready. I’m Avengers-style ready to put it on at any time.
‘Again, I should probably play harder to get but that’s really not me or Leslie’s style so you know, I’m avail.’
However, while she’s thinking about it, there is nothing even in the works at the moment, so don’t be too hyped too fast.
‘I’m like Leslie Knope in one way, which is that I am not good at playing it cool,’ she said. ‘So if there was an actual thing happening, you’d probably be able to pry it out of me pretty fast.’
The Parks and Rec cast have left their mark on US comedy forever (Picture: Rex)
Celebrating the show’s 10 year anniversary this year, the entire cast have been having a little trip down memory lane and all reunited for PaleyFest back in March to discuss the show’s impact on comedy that’s remained to this day.
Since then, the cast have gone on to smash Hollywood both in film and TV with Retta (Donna) now fronting her own series, Good Girls, alongside Christina Hendricks and Mae Whitman.
Adam Scott, who plays Leslie’s husband Ben Wyatt on the series, has since been featured in The Good Place and Big Little Lies, and Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson) has reunited with Amy for a new reality competition, Making It.
With the future of the cast even planned out, will a reboot even work? (Picture: Rex)
Then there’s Chris Pratt, who played Andy Dwyer, who hasn’t been up to too much.
Oh, apart from playing StarLord in the MCU, which absolutely obliterated the box office with its latest instalment Avengers: Endgame – becoming the second highest grossing movie of all time.
So nothing like, super major.
While the idea sounds like it would be epic, Mike Schur – the brains behind other smash hits including Brooklyn 99 and The Good Place – has previously said he’s only up for a reboot if it’s work it.
Speaking at PaleyFest, he said: ‘We’d only do it if there was something compelling. If anyone onstage said no, we wouldn’t do it. Never say never.’
Parks and Recreation is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

**Warning: major spoilers ahead for season eight episode five of Game Of Thrones**
There’s just one more episode of Game Of Thrones to go, so it’s no wonder the writers have got a bit murder happy in the penultimate edition.
Episode five, The Bells, was the bloodiest episode since… well, The Long Night, with thousands of innocent residents of King’s Landing being killed by dragonfire after Daenerys refused to back down, despite the city surrendering.
But as well as the citizens of King’s Landing, there were a number of prominent deaths – including the end of two of the main cast.
Varys
Varys was executed (Picture: HBO)
Varys (Conleth Hill) met his end after Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) told Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) that the Spider was doubting her ability to rule.
Feeling betrayed, Dany sentenced Varys to death. Her method? Having Drogon breathe fire at him. Tyrion admitted he was the reason he was sentenced to death, and the pair said a touching goodbye before the flames.
The tea will get you killed.
Harry Strickland
Harry was killed by Grey Worm (Picture: HBO)
The captain-general of the Golden Company, played by Marc Rissmann, headed up the charge as the army prepared to defend King’s Landing.
Only, he didn’t last very long, as Grey Worm’s spear killed him just minutes into the siege.
Honestly, what was the point of the Golden Company?
Euron Greyjoy
Euron was killed by the king-slayer (Picture: HBO)
Euron (Pilou Asbæk) has been living on the edge of late, what with ravishing the Queen and killing dragons, so we knew his time would be up pretty sharpish.
His death came at the hands of Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), after the men had a fight to the death over their shared love of Cersei (Lena Headey). It seemed Jaime would be the first to die, after Euron got a fair few brutal stabbings in, but Jaime literally twisted the knife – leaving his love rival bleeding out, but revelling in the fact he was the man to ‘kill Jaime Lannister’.
He wasn’t though. Awkward.
Sandor Clegane (The Hound), Gregor Clegane (The Mountain) and Qyburn
We finally got Cleganebowl (Picture: HBO)
After seasons of speculation, we finally got Cleganebowl in episode five, as The Hound (Rory McCann) went to hunt down his zombified brother (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) in the wreckage of King’s Landing.
After Qyburn (Anton Lesser) was killed by The Mountain for attempting to stand in his way, and Cersei scuttled off awkwardly (the best moment of the episode, tbh), the brothers engaged in a brutal battle, with The Hound realising his sibling was pretty unbeatable every time a landed stab did absolutely nothing.
We thought The Hound would meet the same gruesome end as Oberyn as The Mountain pressed his thumbs into his eyes, but after a knife through the head failed to stop his brother, Sandor decided to die alongside him, plunging them both into the fire below.
It’s a poignant end, after The Mountain scarred his brother for life by pressing his face into hot coals.
Jaime Lannister and Cersei Lannister
Jaime and Cersei died together (Picture: HBO)
In George RR Martin’s A Storm of Swords, Jaime said: ‘I cannot die while Cersei lives. We will die together as were born together.’
And that prophecy came true as the incestuous siblings died together as King’s Landing crumbled.
Jaime, bleeding heavily from his fight with Euron, found his sister/lover in the nick of time, and Cersei sobbed as she said she didn’t want to die.
Jaime, Cersei and their unborn baby seemingly perished as the building around them crumbled, leaving Dany as Queen.
But will she be Queen for long?
The Game Of Thrones finale airs next Sunday in the States on HBO, and is simulcast on Sky Atlantic and NOWTV.

Piers Morgan has once again slammed Tess Holliday after her controversial Cosmopolitan cover received an award nomination.
Tess’ famous October 2018 Cosmo cover, which is up for a nod at the PPA Awards 2019, sparked a debate over whether it promoted a healthy body image as Tess is known as a plus-size model.
Last week, Tess tweeted the exciting news to Piers: ‘Hey @piersmorgan, since you were such a fan of my @CosmopolitanUK cover, wanted to let you know it’s nominated for cover of the year.’
Rather than tweet her back, Piers decided to reignite their feud on Good Morning Britain, saying: ‘To put it in context, she’s 110 lbs heavier than me, she’s 11 inches smaller. And that is a body positive image to be celebrated and winning awards?
‘If Tess Holliday goes to a doctor, he doesn’t celebrate her 300lb size, he says to her you’re morbidly obese and you’re going to die if you don’t do something about her weight. That’s the reality check behind this ridiculous celebration of someone who’s morbidly obese.’
Criticising Cosmo, Piers continued: ‘I’m not discriminating against fat people or very skinny people. To me, if you’re unhealthy as a body, either painfully thin or painfully fat, you should not be celebrated and people that put you on covers to sell magazines should not be winning awards.’
Dr Miriam Stoppard, who appeared on Monday’s show, agreed with Piers and weighed in: ‘It’s not normal because fat isn’t normal, fat is dangerous.’

Susanna also argued: ‘It’s not a health magazine, it’s a women’s magazine.’
The TV presenter also revealed that she lost a stone and a half last year on the advice of her doctor to help a skin issue.
Piers later claimed: ‘It will kill her.
‘Unfortunately, you need someone to look her in the eye and say this is not healthy. You need someone.’
The outspoken TV host continued his rant – ‘300 lbs and scoffing cakes? Good on you’ – but was cut-off as GMB went to an advert break. When the show returned, his tirade was still going until he was forced to move onto the next topic.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV at 6am.

Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk was touched most by season three hero Jess Guilbeaux (Picture: Netflix)
Queer Eye fans had their hearts melted after watching the Fab Five get season three hero Jess Guilbeaux back on her feet.
And it seems as though her story really reached Bobby Berk, who is the interior designer of the group.
When chatting to Metro.co.uk at the TV Baftas, in London, the star spoke about his relationship with Jess, and how they have managed to keep in touch following the show.
We asked who’s story meant the most to him, to which the 37-year-old said: ‘Probably Jess.
‘Jess was my girl,’ he confessed before adding: ‘All of them are my babies, but Jess meant a lot to me.’
‘My life story is very similar to her life story.’
He said changing people’s lives is ‘really powerful’ (Picture: Netflix)
Recalling a part of the episode where Jess reunites with her long lost sister (who she originally thought was her cousin), Bobby opened up on how it feels to change someone’s life.
He said: ‘There was a moment in the car when she said her sister had reached out to her and she didn’t really want to reach back because she thought her sister was having pity on her.
‘And I was like, “maybe your sister just wants a sister too?”‘
Bobby paused for a moment and smiled when thinking about his new found buddy.
He added: ‘And you see like a light come on in her eyes.
The star also revealed the Fab Five have been approached by RuPaul (Picture: Getty Images)
‘So to be able to see moments when people’s lives are changed it’s really powerful.’
We asked how often he checks in with Jess, and it sounds like he’s made a friend for life.
The reality star admitted: ‘I talk to Jess all the time,’ before revealing that he is still in touch with Neal Reddy, Skyler Jay, Robert Hitchcock and Tony Blanco.
He told us: ‘We are considering it. I’m actually missing filming the finale of RuPaul to be here.
‘I was supposed to do that but I would prefer to come to the Baftas.’

Ben has revealed why he said ‘no way’ to being on BGT (Picture: REX)
Britain’s Got Talent magician Ben Hart has defended his previous comments that he wouldn’t want to go on the show – admitting it was fear of presenting to Simon Cowell and co that held him back.
But, speaking to Metro.co.uk, the 27-year-old has now explained his real fears and why he overcame them.
‘The judges are always going to be scary, because they’ve seen so many performers now, and so many great acts, that they become quite discerning critics,’ Ben admitted. ‘They really know what they’re talking about, and also in that situation all the excitement and anticipation of the day to be up against the panel.
‘I think, any performer will be nervous about presenting their act on TV, where you never quite know how your act is going to come across,’ he said.
‘But I’ve seen so many magicians have a really nice time on the show in the past, and in recent years, I think I thought “Oh… yeah, maybe I should give it a go!”’
Ben’s performance wowed the judges but he admitted he was previously scared to face them (Picture: Rex)
Encouragement by the performer’s friends also proved essential in getting the confidence he needed to grace the BGT stage himself.
‘The magic industry’s a small world and when I see my friends, colleagues and people I look up to going on the show, it just seems that the show really likes magic,’ Ben admitted, telling us that the artform is now more popular than ever.
‘Simon seems to kind of believe in real magic now, so, you know, why not?,’ he added.
In 2015, during an appearance on BBC Three’s Killer Magic, Ben had said that he didn’t want to go on the show, telling cameras: ‘BGT rings every year and every year I say “No way.”
‘If they buzz you too early, you’re devaluing your product. The producers have in their heads the outcome they want, so they either secretly like you or hate you. It’s a big risk.’
However, speaking to us, the BGT star said it was the buzzers themselves – as well as the judges behind them, that were his true fears, worrying that being buzzed would distract him and ruin the trick further.
‘Magic is by its very nature very difficult, because you’re trying to do the impossible, and the nature of life on the road could be tough,’ he admitted.
Whether he gets through to the semi-finals or now, Ben has no intention to ever leave his career in magic – with it being his one true love since he was a child.
‘I don’t know anything else – I’m completely unemployable!,’ he laughed. ‘I’ve got no qualifications, it’s all I’ve ever done. I love it and I’m sticking with it.’
Britain’s Got Talent continues Saturdays at 8pm on ITV1.

Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey spills the tea on that Cersei Lannister twist (Picture: HBO)
*Warning: This article contains massive spoilers from Game of Thrones season 8, episode 5.
Game of Thrones finally gave fans the moment we’ve been desperate for in season eight episode five last night, but not quite how we imagined – or hoped.
If you’ve got to this point and still reading, we’re throwing it out there: Cersei Lannister had the most comforting death in Game of Thrones history, wrapped in the arms of her lover Jaime and, frankly, we all deserved more.
Cersei has been the cruellest player in Game of Thrones but had an unjustifiably romantic demise.
There are thousands of angry fans, understandably, and actress Lena Headey has now admitted she had similar feelings about Cersei’s ending until her co-star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau talked her around.
‘The more we talked about it the more it seemed like the perfect end for her. They came into the world together and now they leave together,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.
‘I think the important thing is that Jaime had a chance at freedom [with Brienne] and finally liberated himself from Cersei, which I think the audience will be thrilled about,’ Lena continued.
‘I think the biggest surprise is he came back for her. Cersei realises just how she loves him and just how much he loves her. It’s the most authentic connection she’s ever had. Ultimately they belong together.’
Pretty sure Cersei just belonged in the bin, to be honest.
From where was Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan) to why did they even bother with the Golden Company? We have a lot of questions surrounding the latest episode from Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones concludes at 9pm this Sunday on HBO and will be simulcast at 2am on Sky Atlantic in the UK. Seasons one to seven are available to stream on NOW TV.

Laura Elphinstone met Arya Stark in last night’s Game Of Thrones (Picture: BBC/HBO)
Game Of Thrones’ penultimate episodes was certainly explosive and set down some serious plot points as we head into the series finale next week.
But while that’s all exciting, UK viewers were delighted to see a cameo appearance from one of their favourite characters from another TV show – Line Of Duty.
Definitely not the crossover any of us were expecting! Though probably not going to happen again any time soon.
***WARNING: EPISODE FIVE SPOILERS FROM HERE ON. YOU’RE WARNED***
Laura Elphinstone, Line Of Duty’s DI Michelle Brandyce, has had one hell of a week on TV after the series finale of the most talked about mystery thriller on the BBC was followed up by a quick trip to Westeros itself.
However, what was going on in King’s Landing made handling AC-12 look like a walk in the park as fire rained down on the innocent civilians as hundreds of lives were claimed by Daenerys Targaryen.
Laura Elphinstone’s life as a civilian of King’s Landing was short lived (Picture: HBO)
Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) was making her escape from King’s Landing when she came across Laura’s character, who was left trapped in the inferno the dragon fire created.
An innocent civilian, the unnamed character was only around for a fleeting moment, but it’s more than likely that her fate has been sealed as one of the many burned alive by the vengeful queen.
But while she may not have made it out alive, viewers loved the shock appearance, giving them the tiniest of fixes for Line Of Duty that came to its own dramatic conclusion last week.
After losing all her loved ones over the course of this season, particular Missandei in episode four, Dany has appeared to follow in the footsteps of her father ‘The Mad King’ in the last episode.
If so, Jon Snow, the rightful heir to the throne, might have a bit of a problem on his hands, especially now everyone knows where his place should be.
If the you win or you die in the Game Of Thrones, we have a feeling that the latest bloodshed is the least of anyone’s worries.
Game Of Thrones concludes Sunday on HBO and Sky Atlantic.

Paul Gascoigne admits he was ‘scared’ of Vinnie Jones before the infamous crotch grab that took place 31 years ago.
Back in February 1988, Vinnie, 54, famously launched at Gazza’s manhood during a game between Newcastle United and Wimbledon.
In a surprising turn of events, the pair have actually become ‘good friends’ over the years and are preparing to go on a joint tour this summer.
During their appearance on Good Morning Britain on Monday, Vinnie didn’t seem to have much remorse about the crotch grab and joked: ‘I’d have grabbed him by the hair if he had any so I grabbed him by the nuts.’
Fortunately, Gazza can now laugh about the situation but admitted he was pretty terrified of Vinnie at the time as he was a relative newbie to the game.
‘I was in the dressing room and the manager came up to me and said, “You’re up against such and such”. All he said to me was “good luck”,’ the former footballer revealed.
‘I went, “Oh no, what do you mean?” He said you’ll know who he is when you get in the tunnel. When I got in the tunnel I could just see someone breathing down my neck. I said, “Hi Vinnie” [in sheepish voice] that’s how scared I was.’

Vinnie sparked controversy with his crotch grab in 1988 (Picture: ITV)
He added: ‘It really hurt.’
It seems the crotch grab was actually an old trick Vinnie had picked up as a child.
Speaking from California, he revealed: ‘We didn’t have all the cameras back then that we do now. It was something that I got taught at 10 or 11 years old by our youth team manager. I thought I’d try it out and it worked.’
Chiming into the bonding moment, Piers said getting grabbed by the crotch must be almost as bad as childbirth.
Guess we’ll never know, Piers.
Elsewhere in the interview, Vinnie praised Gazza for ‘fighting’ to overcome his addiction battles.
Reassuring supporters about his health, Gazza said: ‘Everything’s going well, I’m enjoying life.’
He added of their upcoming tour: ‘I’m looking forward to it, the banter’s quite good. We’re just hammering each other.’
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.

The final season of Game Of Thrones has been one of TV’s most closely guarded secrets, with everybody gripped as to who will end up on the Iron Throne.
But despite all the cloak and dagger secrecy, with the cast keeping their lips sealed, it seems that somebody has got their hands on behind-the-scenes information.
GOT fans are equal parts furious, disappointed and impress that a leak from two weeks ago has been found to be spot-on, following the penultimate episode.
In a now deleted post shared on 1 May, before the fourth episode in the series, Redditor /u/throwaway5873421 accuratedly predicted Euron Greyjoy killing Rhaegal and Cersei Lannister having Missandei executed.
And much of the predictions made about episode five have also come true.
Redditor /u/throwaway5873421 wrote: ‘Dany has Varys executed. Dany assaults King’s Landing and it’s one-sided as hell. Tyrion begs her to show mercy but she refuses.
‘Tyrion frees Jamie to try to get Cersei out of the city. King’s Landing gets wrecked in the battle. Drogon burns Euron’s fleet. The Hound fights his brother. They both die.
‘Jaime fights Euron and kills him, but Jaime is mortally wounded. Jaime makes it to Cersei and they die together.
‘Dany is executing everyone in King’s Landing. Jon and Tyrion are upset.’
/u/throwaway5873421 also gave alleged details of the finale, which we will not share here – but considering their track record, some fans reckon they have spoiled the whole ending, and aren’t too happy about the plot points.
Still, we’ll have to wait until next week to know for sure who ends up on the Iron Throne – with the trailer for the last episode giving nothing away.
The Game Of Thrones finale airs next Sunday in the States on HBO, and is simulcast on Sky Atlantic and NOWTV.
