Mindhunter season 2: Who is The BTK Strangler?

Mindhunter season 2
Mindhunter season 2 is set to focus on the Atlanta child murders in the late 1970s (Picture: Netflix)

After a long two-year wait, Mindhunter is back for a second series on Netflix.

Ford and Tench are back, interviewing serial killers to get into their minds, with the intention of finding killers who haven’t yet been caught through criminal profiling.

Last season we saw Ed Kemper, Montie Rissell, Jerry Brudos, and Richard Speck. This time, there will be even more real-life monsters depicted as the pair try to understand the thought-process of a killer.

One of the most interesting yet disturbing figures in season two is the BTK Stranger, whose story will unravel in real time for the FBI.

Here’s the sickening story behind BTK killer, Dennis Rader. Before you read on, we’d like to include a content warning, as this story is gruesome and could cause distress.

Spoiler alert: You won’t actually know him as the BTK Killer in Mindhunter just yet, and instead will see him as the creepy ADT Serviceman who’s been lurking around acting strangely.

The element of him hiding in plain sight is extremely apt as, in reality, Dennis Rader’s reign of terror lasted from 1974 to 1991, during which time he murdered ten people.

He was also only caught in 2005, when he began sending letters to police (something he had previously done during his active time killing) and he was captured.

He evaded capture for decades (Picture: Bo Rader-Pool/Getty Images)

BTK stands for bind, torture, kill, which is how Dennis Rader signed his letters to police, and how he was eventually nicknamed.

His first murders were the Otero family in 1974. Rader killed mother and father Joseph and Julie, as well as their 9 and 11-year-olds Joseph Jr. and Josephine. Their bodies were discovered by eldest son, Charlie, when he came home from school.

Rader then sent letters to a local TV station in the state of Kansas, admitting to these murders and those of Kathryn Bright, Shirley Vian and Nancy Fox.

His next victim was 53-year-old Marine Hedge in 1985. Not only did he kill her, but took photographs of her body in the church where he volunteered.

Throughout the years he stalked many more women (and later admitted to killing Vicki Wegerle in 1986, in front of her two-year-old daughter) but killed his tenth and final victim in 1991; Dolores E. Davis.

His murders were all premediated, and he would stalk his victims beforehand to get ready for the crimes and work out how to enter their homes and subdue them. His crimes were also sexually motivated, and he would often take souvenirs, such as underwear from his female victims, driver’s licenses, and personal possessions.

Rader’s family (he had a wife and two children) had no ideas of his crimes, and he evaded capture by appearing as a ‘normal’ suburban dad, volunteering as a Cub Scout Leader and on the church council.

It was only in 2004 when he restarted his trolling of police through a series of letters that he became a suspect. After sending a floppy disk of files to a news station as the BTK killer, police were able to track his identity and then use DNA evidence to work out who he was.

He was sentenced to 10 consecutive life sentences after being convicted of 10 counts of first degree murder. He pleaded guilty to the crimes, but initially made no apology for them.

The now 74-year-old is currently serving this time in the El Dorado Correctional Facility and is not eligible for release before February 26, 2180. He is held in solitary confinement 23 hours a day, only being released one hour a day for yard exercise, and is allowed three showers a week.

Mindhunter is available to watch on Netflix now.

Craig David has offered to be the resident Love Island pool party DJ following his appearance in the series five villa last month.

The 38-year-old Walking Away hitmaker, who left both fans and contestants delighted by his Ministry of Sound set, admitted that it was a privilege to perform for the couples and admitted that he loves nothing more than playing live music to watch the crowd react.

‘If they want me to DJ a TS5 set, I’m there,’ Craig said. I’ll be a regular – put me on. I’ll always put on a pool party when they need me.’

Recalling his time on the hit ITV2 reality show, he continued to Daily Star: ‘It’s the most flattering thing – to go out there and see them run down the steps with excitement.

‘It was a proper pool party, too. I played a 40-minute set. Over the years, I appreciate the love and the reaction more and more.

‘The chart positions and awards are all amazing, but when you see that face light up – I live for it.’

Love Island is set to return to the small screen in January after ITV confirmed that it would be moving to two series a year, so there’s a strong chance the show will be looking to host another pool party.

The early-year season will be held in South Africa, rather than the Majorca villa that has become synonymous with the dating show.

Confirming the exciting news in a statement, Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions at ITV said: ‘Off the back of a record-breaking year, we’re delighted to be bringing an extra series of our biggest and sunniest show to the 2020 schedule.

‘Love Island has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences. In response to this viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location.’

Love Island returns to ITV2 in January 2020.

Killing Eve Villanelle’s season 2 torture chamber is up for sale and could be yours

The torture chamber from Killing Eve is up for sale (Picture: SWNS)

Killing Eve fans can officially get their hands on Villanelle’s torture chamber as the container has officially gone up for sale.

The season two location was used by hired assassin Villanelle (played by Jodie Comer), along with her love interest Eve (Sandra Oh) as a make-shift interrogation room in the fifth episode titled Smell Ya Later.

When intelligence investigator Eve fails to gain information from The Ghost, Villanelle begins torturing the woman for answers in the middle of the woods.

But now, the bright red shipping container at Gravesend Kent could be yours to do whatever with (within reason) as it goes under the hammer on Tuesday in a bid to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The auction price will start at just 99p on eBay and will run for ten days.

Staff at Adaptainer, who own the container, adapted it from new to make it appear cosmetically weathered for the show and to allow for filming, but it has since been welded back into place in preparation for the sale.

A spokesperson for Adaptainer said: ‘We were contacted by Sid Gentle Films who make Killing Eve and they said they wanted to have a shipping container made pretty quickly for the show.

‘It was designed with panels that could be removed and then go back in as and when they needed so that they could film from outside the container.

‘Some people use such containers instead of a garden shed or as a garage.’

They continued: ‘We hope the buyers will be fans of Killing Eve who want to take home a piece of the show and support Great Ormond Street.

‘There might be somebody who is quite quirky who is a big fan of the show and in need of a container – it could be a win-win for everybody.

‘We don’t quite know what to expect in terms of the sale price.

‘A used container goes for around £1,300 and a brand new container can fetch over £3,000.

‘While this is a fully functional container, its role in Killing Eve might add to its appeal.’

Killing Eve is available for catch-up on BBC iPlayer.

Poldark and Peaky Blinders
Next week is a big one for telly fans… (Picture: BBC)

Peaky Blinders season 5 will be launching with a two-night special event that will tie in with the Poldark finale.

The two shows will air on both Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday next week to say goodbye to the Cornwall period drama and hello to the latest antics of the Shelby boys.

Safe to say, the BBC aren’t messing around when it comes to setting up your cosy Autumn nights in.

Both shows have huge fanbases that are eager to see what is becoming of their favourite stars, and in order to fit them in, the channel has wiggled around the schedule to make sure they’re seen in all their glory.

On Sunday 25, Poldark will kick off at an earlier time of 8pm, with Peaky coming in afterwards at 9pm.

On Monday, Poldark’s final ever episode will see us say goodbye to Ross, Demelza and co from 8.30pm, and Peaky Blinders will follow afterwards at 9pm.

Basically, cancel all your plans for next weekend, because it’s going to be a good one.

While Poldark is officially ending next weekend, it’s been revealed that there could be a door left open for its return sometime in the future.

Andrew Graham, son of the book series’ author Winston Graham, told Mail On Sunday: ‘My father once wrote, “I don’t think I shall ever of my own volition write a tidy ending”.

‘And the word tidy was underlined. That is where we could be at the end of series five.’

Demelza (ELEANOR TOMLINSON) and Ross Poldark (AIDAN TURNER)
Prepare to say goodbye to Poldark – at least for now (Picture: BBC)

Aidan Turner, who plays leading man Ross Poldark, seemed to support the open-ended conclusion, telling Digital Spy it ‘doesn’t feel like an ending’.

‘I don’t think that is the BBC being crafty and keeping it open-ended for another series in time, but [while] it feels right, it doesn’t feel final,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Peaky Blinders is going nowhere, and picks up with the Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and the Shelby brothers at the start of the 1929 Wall Street Crash.

Throw in the sudden introduction of soon-to-be fascist leader Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin), and it’s clear the team have a lot of trouble on their hands.

Catch Poldark next Sunday, 25 August from 8pm on BBC One.

Peaky Blinders season 5 launches next Sunday from 9pm.

When will Love Island 2020 start, how can I apply, and what will be different in the winter series?

Love Island 2019 finalists
With this year’s finalists embarking on their new careers, thoughts are turning to the next set (Picture: Rex)

With the first Love Island couples already beginning to break up, while others are moving onto lucrative television and partnership deals, our thoughts are turning to the winter series.

Namely, what can we expect, who might be on it, and how the heck can we apply?!

Find out everything you need to know here.

When will Love Island 2020 start?

ITV confirmed it will air at the beginning of next year, but haven’t yet set a date.

We’re not sure how we feel about watching it in the middle of winter, following a few months of eating selection boxes and festive food with wild abandon.

But we’ll probably watch it all the same.

The series will head to Cape Town for it’s winter edition (Picture: Rex)

How can I apply to Love Island 2020?

Single and looking for some winter sun? You could be on the next series of Love Island!

ITV are currently looking for ‘vibrant singles from across the UK.’

Apply on the ITV website before 30 November 2019 to be in with a chance.

What changes can we expect on Love Island 2020?

Most notably, there will be a change of scenery as the winter edition will take place in Cape Town, South Africa.

There will reportedly be wildlife experts on standby to ward away deadly snakes, poisonous insects and even big cats.

love island lizards doing bits
This year’s contestants were joined by two randy lizards (Picture: ITV)

Stars will have to take extra precautions this year, including long clothing and protective sprays. Sexy!

The line up could look a bit more diverse than previous years, as bosses are reportedly scouting specific types of people for this year’s series, including ‘twins, goth girls and Essex lads.’

In addition, the new series may have to comply with new Ofcom rules, aimed to protect the mental well-being of participants.

Last month, Ofcom proposed new rules to protect reality TV participants, making broadcasters responsible for the ‘well being and dignity’ of participants, and not causing them ‘unjustified stress of anxiety by taking part in the programmes.’

We wonder what this means for Casa Amor…

Who is in the Love Island 2020 cast?

Love Island narrator and comedian Iain Stirling
Our favourite narrator will be heading to Cape Town (Picture: Ken McKay/ITV/REX)

Sure, the contestants are important, but would it really be Love Island without Iain Stirling’s saucy commentary?

Thankfully Iain has confirmed he will return for the upcoming season, telling GMB: ‘Do you know what, it’s gonna be an absolute blast.’

Refusing to confirm the start date, he said ‘Winter Love Island is gonna come back sooner than you thought and it’s gonna be enjoyable.’

And as for Caroline Flack? Rumours suggest she’ll be back too, but this is yet to be confirmed.

The jury is still out on what contestants could be joining them.

Superman prequel Krypton cancelled after two seasons – with spin-off being axed as well

Krypton, the spin-off series based on the folklore of Superman, has been axed by SyFy after two seasons.

The season two finale, which aired on 14 August, is now officially the final episode of the series.

The story followed life on the alien planet, generations before it was destroyed and Clark Kent/Kal-El came to be.

Cameron Cuffe played Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather, as a young man faced with a crisis about the future of both his planet and his family.

On top of that, Lobo, a spin-off based on the character portrayed by Emmett J Scanlan, has also been shelved as a result, despite being put into development earlier this year.

Lobo was an intergalactic bounty hunter who took no prisoners, and was a solid favourite in the comic books, but now won’t have his story told as a standalone.

He appeared in season two of the show, with his distinctive look and character a hit with fans.

According to Deadline, bosses are in talks with other outlets to revive the characters elsewhere, including DC Universe streaming service, where the previous seasons are already being aired.

The shock axe comes after the show was initially one of SyFy’s strongest ever debut’s in March last year, earning the most-watch first episode ever for an original in five years.

However, they were unable to maintain the fanbase and by season two, the show lost around half of its viewership.

A series based on Lobo is also not going to move forward (Picture: Steffan Hill/SYFY/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)

On the news of the axing being announced, Emmett revealed that he had been desperately carving himself into ‘an Adonis like the restof the cast’ despite it never coming to be.

The cast I worked with on [Krypton] trained hard, eating boiled chicken & broccoli, looking like they’d been sculpted from the ballbag of Zeus (Adonis looking m*****rs).

‘I just looked like an actual ballbag. Albeit a #LOBO ballbag, but a ballbag nonetheless. 3 weeks from booking Krypton to getting on set wasn’t enough time to get in shape, so on a diet of no fucks to give & alot of shadowing I brought my headcase game, and it worked. I know this because when I finished they asked & I said yes to doing future Krypton seasons & a spin off.

‘So on the off chance either got picked up, I took myself away & beasted for 3 months on my own dime. 3 months on a “maybe”. Reaching new levels of pain on a maybe. Plant based, high intensity training on a maybe…’

He then added: ‘Now @syfy may have cancelled on them, but being asked to dance in the first place, being asked to dance with @CamWelsh, @warnerbros @DCComics & Goyer on a maybe, has been my greatest honour..’

‘Getting to this point has been worth the maybe….Maybe next time…Maybe.’

Martin Freeman is up for Sherlock season 5 return – if it’s worth it

Sherlock remains a fan favourite despite last being on air two years ago (Picture: BBC)

Martin Freeman has admitted that he’s open to returning to Sherlock – but it would have to be a brilliant idea to get him to commit.

The actor, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, brought the literary mastermind and his sidekick John Watson back to life for the 21st century – becoming a worldwide smash hit in the BBC drama.

But since the fourth season of the show aired, the pair, as well as writer Mark Gatiss, have played down any thoughts of going back for more anytime soon.

However, talking to Collider, Martin has said that he wouldn’t be against going back playing Dr Watson one more time, if it was the right story.

He said: ‘If it’s something really special, and if it’s something really meaty and interesting, then I think we’d all be open to that.’

‘Sherlock always sounds a bit like an event, anyway,’ he added.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Mark Gatiss
The detective drama’s return looks more unlikely by the day (Picture: BBC)

The star later explained: ‘They were 90-minute episodes, but they were quite few and far between, by television standards.

‘Normally, you’re looking at ten or eight episodes. We did relatively few, even though there was a lot of material. It always felt like an event, so if we do more, it has to be worthy of that.’

‘We couldn’t come back with something that was quite good,’ Martin added. ‘It would have to feel really, really special. It was that kind of show.’

Speaking of the series four ending, Martin added that he felt that the twist in the tale meant that they couldn’t just ‘pop up’ again, and there needs to be more to it than that.

Martin angered fans last year by suggesting that the high expectations of the series meant it was no longer fun to be part of it – only to backtrack and correct himself weeks later.

The series, which has run on-and-off from 2010, was last seen in 2017 with a twist addition to the Holmes family.

Sherlock is available to watch on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.

Mindhunter season 2: Who is Son of Sam aka David Berkowitz?

Mindhunter season 2
Son of Sam was a notorious killer (Picture: Netflix)

It’s been two years since we last horrified by the creepy killers on Mindhunter, and Ford and Trench are now back for season two of the show.

This season will focus on the Atlanta Child Murders of the late ’70s, with the FBI looking to criminal profiling to work out who did it.

The officers’ criminal profiling tends to focus on them interviewing captured serial killers in order to get into their heads and see what could motivate someone to do such a thing.

One of those killers is David Berkowitz, who was also known as Son of Sam in the press.

Here’s everything you need to know about the cold-hearted murderer depicted by Oliver Cooper in Mindhunter.

David Berkowitz was 24 years old when he was arrested in 1977 for killing a number of people over the course of over a year.

Using a .44-caliber rifle, he targeted attractive young women in the city of New York, particularly those with long brown hair. During his reign of terror he killed six people, and wounded seven others.

While he was active, a large number of women changed their hair colour and lengths, and a state of panic set in in New York, with some women simply choosing to stay at home altogether.

Berkowitz originally served for three years in the army, before returning to his hometown of New York in 1974 and working as a security guard.

His mental state began deteriorating, and he allegedly began hallucinating that his neighbour Sam’s Labrador was telling him to kill. He also believed the man himself, Sam Carr, was a demon.

Quitting his job on July 28 1976, he awoke the next day and went to the Bronx, where he shot eighteen-year-olds Donna Lauria and Jody Valenti, killing the former and injuring the latter.

In October that year, he shot Carl Denaro in a car in Queens, but did not kill him. It was just a month before he’d strike again, seriously wounding Donna DeMasi and Joanne Lomino.

Although police suspected that these incidents may have been connected, they weren’t able to find evidence at the time to confirm this.

Berkowitz’s next victim was Christine Freund in January 1977, followed by college student Virginia Voskerichian.

After a bullet matching another of his crime scenes was identified at the scene, police revealed that serial killer was on the loose, and a task force was created to catch him.

On April 17, 18-year-old Valentina Suriani and 20-year-old Alexander Esau were shot and killed, and Berkowitz later began taunting the police through letters naming himself as the Son of Sam.

Further people wounded by the Son of Sam were Judi Placido, Sal Lupo and Bobby Violante, with Bobby’s girlfriend Stacy Moskowitz being fatally shot.

Berkowitz’s behaviour was becoming increasingly erratic towards those close to him, too, and he’d shot Sam Carr’s dog, while sending threatening letters to other neighbours of his.

When an eyewitness sketch was released of Son of Sam, these neighbours reported Berkowitz, and he was finally captured, leaving New York to breathe a sigh of relief that he was no longer on the loose.

He pleaded guilty to the six murders he committed, and appeared to enjoy courting attention over his crimes. ‘Son of Sam’ laws were even created to block his plans to sell the rights to his stories to a publisher for personal profit.

His sentence was the maximum allowed at the time; six 25-to-life sentences. Berkowitz has since admitted that the story about the dog ordering him to murder was a lie.

Mindhunter is available to watch on Netflix now.

Wu Assassins’ Celia Au wants to be a role model for Asian girls – as she only had the Yellow Power Ranger

Netflix’s Wu Assassins dropped last week and it’s safe to say that people are falling in love with the mystical drama.

But for Celia Au, who plays Ying Ying in the series, it’s even more important because of what it represents – with the star admitted that she had very few people to look up to on screen when she was younger.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the actress revealed: ‘Growing up, my parents owned a video store and I only saw Asian representation from Asia.

‘Hong Kong films, Japanese films…but I’d never seen it in the American cinema and if I did it was the Yellow Ranger in Power Rangers.

‘That’s the first and only one where I was like, “Oh my God this is awesome! She looks like me and she’s kicking butt! It’s so cool!”

‘After that, besides Power Rangers, you didn’t really see any more Asian representation and like superheroes.’

Wu Assassins Season 1 - Celia Au as Ying Ying

Now Celia, is taking centre stage in Wu Assassins – with Ying Ying tasked with finding and training the final Wu Assassin before a mysterious evil threatens to take over everything.

She finds her trainee in Kai Jin (Iko Uwais), a young and unsuspecting Chinatown chef who as a result is suddenly thrown into the ancient fight and the Chinese Triad’s pursuit of the Wu Xing – a series of deadly powers that could ruin the world.

Celia hopes that the long overdue presence of Asian representation is here to stay, and is glad to be a part of it as she reveals she’d be up for the challenge of being in Shang-Chi, the upcoming Marvel movie that’s an almost exclusively Asian cast.

‘Shang-Chi’s coming out and it’s the first one in the Marvel universe and I’m super excited for that,’ she told us. ‘So if I’m offered the pleasure of being in it, it’ll be “yes! Let’s do it!”’

And in the meantime, Celia hopes that she can remain with Ying Ying so she can finally learn how to fly – because that was the only thing she wasn’t allowed to do during production.

She admitted: ‘Hopefully, knock on wood, if we get a season two I can be like “Can you teach me how to fly?”

‘I was trying to so hard that day, in a day of rehearsals before we had to do all of the flying scenes, I’m sitting there going “I’m ready, put me in a harness!” and even my double was like “I’ll teach you how to do this” and then the stunt co-ordinator came in and was like “Nah-uh. No guys. This is too dangerous.”’

‘I have Chinese Kung Fu training and some weapons training and when I got on the show I was doing training in fights and some sword stuff,’ she explained. ‘But anything that’s more dangerous my awesome stunt double will always be like “I got it, don’t die. Power star jokes it’s a ‘very bad idea’ to owe 50 Cent any money

Power actor Joseph Sikora has joked that’s it’s probably not a great situation to be in if you owe 50 Cent money.

Over the last year the In Da Club rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, has made examples of a number of showbiz names that have not paid him back for huge loans or have ‘stolen’ from him.

Bow Wow was accused of allegedly swiping stacks of one dollar bills from the star at a strip club in Atlanta just two months after 50 Cent ended his wild feud with former Power producer Randall Emmett following reports he’d ‘repaid part of his $1million (£773,000) loan’.

‘It’s a very bad idea to owe him any money,’ Joseph told Metro.co.uk. ‘

‘But I will say this – any of us that have owed him money and have not been put on Instagram were smart enough to pay that money back immediately.’

50 Cent’s Starz show Power is set to come to an end with season six, which is due to air later this month.

The actor and producer announced his decision to call it a day with the hit drama back in May, however, he has already set the wheels in motion for spin-offs.

The upcoming season of Power picks up from the explosive series five finale which saw Tommy (played by Joseph Sikora) aiming his gun at best friend turned nemesis Ghost (Omari Harwick), but shooting Angela (Lela Loren) in the chest instead.

‘Essentially and eventually we will find out if love is thicker than blood,’ Joseph teased to us.

‘A lot of times it’s not the case. Remember, this [Power] is a cautionary tale, it’s a cautionary love story too.

‘The love story isn’t just between Ghost and the ladies, but it’s really a love story between these two brothers.’

Power returns Sunday 25 August on Starz.

The Proud Family will return with new episodes on Disney+ (Picture: Disney)

The Proud Family is making a comeback and will stream brand new episodes on Disney +.

It’s been 14 years since the cartoon last hit our screens, but Tommy Davidson confirmed the exciting news that his character Oscar will be returning with the rest of the clan.

‘I forgot to tell you that, The Proud Family is coming back. Proud Family’s coming back,’ Tommy told Where Is the Buzz.

‘It’s on one of Disney’s streaming [services]. Yeah, Proud Family’s coming back.

‘They told me not to tell you. New episodes.’

The Proud Family follows 14-year-old Penny (voiced by Kyla Pratt), and her misadventures with her friends.

The Proud Family

She always listens to and respects her parents Oscar and Trudy (voiced by Paula Jai Parker), but is a sucker for peer pressure and often winds up in trouble.

The cartoon will be joining a whole host of shows when it joins Disney +, including Monsters, Inc. series Monsters At Work.

The network announced in April that the original cast from the iconic 2001 film would be returning alongside some new faces, including Ben Feldman as newbie Tylor Tuskmon.

Monsters At Work is set six months after the original 2001 film when they switched to the power of children’s laughter, over screams, to power Monstropolis.

Disney+ is expected to launch in November later this year – with a bunch of shows connected to Marvel and Star Wars already announced.

One of the most anticipated new original series being produced for the site is Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian.

Created by George Lucas, the series will take place after the events of Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens.

Other confirmed shows in the pipeline include Diary of a Female President, High School Musical: The Musical, Ink & Paint and an untitled Rogue One prequel series.

Netflix’s Haunting Of Hill House is getting a director’s cut because we apparently weren’t scared enough

Haunting Of Hill House Crain Family
The Haunting Of Hill House captivated and horrified viewers everywhere (Picture: Netflix)

Haunting Of Hill House left us horrified and shaken with their bitter tale of the Crain family – and now they’ve only gone and made it even more terrifying with a director’s cut.

The team behind the Netflix smash hit has announced that there’ll be a special edition version of the series for blu-ray – with extra scenes added to every episode.

This also confirms that, in fact, they never want us sleep again ever. Thanks guys.

Director Mike Flanagan confirmed the news and said on Twitter: ‘Well this news got out there a LITTLE earlier than we wanted… but yes, it’s true!

‘More details to come, but it was a blast restoring several episodes to their original form. Hope you all enjoy!’

While details as to what to expect are being hidden from us as of yet, we have no doubt that the team will make it worth the wait.

In the meantime, us Netflix users have something else to prepare for – the upcoming second series of the anthology tale, The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Apparently, it’s going to be even scarier than the first, which is nice.

Victoria Pendretti and Oliver Jackson-Cohen have already been confirmed to return to the show in new roles, after playing the painfully damaged Crain twins who suffered most at Hill House.

The Haunting Of Bly Manor will be created by Hill House showrunners Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, and is based off book The Turn Of The Screw.

It follows a young boy named Miles who has to return to his family home of Bly Manor after being expelled from school.

Once there, he begins to start seeing ghosts haunting the manor, tormenting the governess, the housekeeper Mrs Grose, as well as Miles’ little sister, Flora.

Haunting Of Hill House is available to stream on Netflix.

Avengers’ Scarlet Witch and Vision have been given their happy ending and Elizabeth Olsen reckons it’s down to Paul Bettany joking about launching a Wanda and Vision sitcom.

The actors, who play the superhero couple, will be returning to our screens in Spring 2021 on Disney+.

While plans for the show are currently heavily under wraps (because no one can keep a secret like Marvel), Elizabeth teased how the whole series even came to be…and she believes Paul.

Speaking at Dortmund’s German Comic Con, Elizabeth revealed: ‘Paul planted this idea before Disney was launching their own platform.

‘I think it was just funny to him to think of us as doing a domestic sitcom, and somehow whatever he planted, he planted the seed and now we’re actually doing something.’

However, that was all the info she was willing to give, and she said (via comicbook.com): ‘I think the only thing I can tell you is that we’re going to start work on it this fall, and Paul and I are really excited.’

‘We already know what the story’s going to be, and it’s good stuff. I’m just happy we can talk about it now, because I’ve known about it for a very long time,’ she laughed.

WandaVision was one of the numerous shows announced at Marvel’s San Diego Comic Con panel revealing their Phase 4 plans.

Among the other announcements for Disney+ was the reveal they’ll be bringing back Tom Hiddleston for a Loki series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier are teaming up for a series of their own, and Hawkeye will also be getting a series, where Kate Bishop will also be announced.

Throw in some new films including Blade, Black Widow and The Eternals, and the MCU has some serious new additions coming its way.

The Hollywood Reporter stated Jac Schaeffer, who has also written the screenplay for Marvel’s Black Widow movie, will be showrunning WandaVision.

WandaVision launches exclusively on Disney+ in Spring 2021.

Kevin and Lesley-Ann are the real angel/devils we can get behind (Picture: Twitter)

Team Lucifer are one dedicated bunch and Lesley-Ann Brandt and Kevin Alejandro have taken their angel/devil devotion to the next level with matching tattoos.

Fresh from launching new charity campaign Care Like A Demon, Lesley-Ann has taken one of Mazekeen’s distinctive knives and had it inked onto her forearm.

Alongside her, Kevin, who plays Detective ‘douche’ Dan Espinoza, proved to be quite the angel with some wings added to his forearm as well.

After getting it done, Lesley-Ann called on her other leading stars – including Tom Ellis, Lesley German, Aimee Garcia and Rachael Harris – to get in on the action.

‘The cast and show runners was supposed to get their wing tattoos. We showed up. Like where was everyone?,’ Lesley-Ann wrote on Twitter, alongside photo of her and Kevin’s new ink.

So which side are you on, gang?

After seeing what they’d had done, Ildy Modrovich has vowed to get on board too and told everyone on Twitter: ‘Oh, it’s on, my beautiful demon friend. We just need a design. Any ideas #Lucifamily?’

While Lesley-Ann might be playing demon Mazekeen on the series, it seems she’s got a heart as big as the one her character tries to hide and has launched Care Like a Demon to raise money for gun control advocacy groups.

Racheal, who plays Doctor Linda in the series, later agreed too and said: ‘Oh s*** girl I’m in maple leaf land… did I miss a memo??? let me give you my arm and let’s DO THIS! what should the doc get kids?’

Launching a merch collection, Care Like A Demon will donate the proceeds to children at the US border who have been taken from their families, as well as those taking steps to end gun violence.

The star was inspired to take action following the latest stint of mass shootings in America and the current border crisis.

All money raised will go towards charities RAICES and Everytown For Gun Safety.

Lucifer season 5 is already underway with the writing room currently creating the final installments of the devillish detective series.

While fans were desperate for a season six, unfortunately Netflix put a veto on it – but later revealed season 5 will be split in two with six extra episodes added (So we’re totally counting that as a win).

Now we just want to know what’s going on with that musical episode that’s been teased…

Lucifer seasons 1, 2 and 3 are on Amazon Prime Video, and season 4 is available on Netflix.

Game Of Thrones’ George RR Martin is ‘liberated’ now the series is over

George RR Martin admits he’s liberated with the show ending (Picture: Metro.co.uk)

Game Of Thrones’ George RR Martin has admitted that he found the end of the TV show ‘liberating’ – because he found the show was stifling his ability to be creative.

The 70-year-old author has two books left of the saga to write by his own admission – but struggled to release any new material in the 10 years the show was on screen.

As a result, he was happy to see the show come to an end, finding it ‘freeing’.

Speaking to The Observer, the writer said: ‘I don’t think [the TV series] was very good for me. The very thing that should have speeded me up actually slowed me down.’

‘Every day I sat down to write and even if I had a good day…I’d feel terrible because I’d be thinking: “My God, I have to finish the book. I’ve only written four pages when I should have written 40.”’

He also teased that the book may end differently to what the TV series show, saying that it made no difference what DB Weiss and David Benioff chose to do.

George has hinted the final books will not tie in with what the series aired (Picture: Rex)

‘It doesn’t change anything at all,’ he said. ‘You can’t please everybody, so you’ve got to please yourself.’

Adding fuel to the fire, he added that some fan theories have been right – but we won’t be finding out what ones are correct for a while now.

The Game Of Thrones series courted controversy with its ending with many fans angered at who ended up ruling Westeros as well as the fate of favourite characters.

In fact, so many people kicked off more than a million people demanded a rewrite.

However, star Issac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran on the show, defended the final scenes and told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘It’s just absurd [the petition]. I can’t even fathom it. It’s just ridiculous.

‘It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it.

‘I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t. In my opinion, it’s a great ending.’

Grey Worm actor Jacob Anderson also criticised the backlash, saying: ‘I feel like not everybody is going to love everything. There’s no way to make everybody happy.’

Game Of Thrones is available for catch-up on NOW TV.

The Walking Dead season 10 will see Alpha and Carol finally face off for the first time

The Walking Dead season 10 is about to see a bitter confrontation between Carol and Alpha – and we know that it is going to be one hell of a showdown.

Carol (Melissa McBride) and Alpha (Samantha Morton) have barely been seen on screen together since Alpha and her Whisperers were introduced last season.

But as one of the leading women of Alexandria and now mourning the loss of loved ones after *that* pike scene in the season nine finale, you know Carol isn’t taking fools gladly.

In a video posted on the Walking Dead Facebook page, actors Melissa and Alpha were seen laughing between shots in the woods, meaning that we know that, at least, they’ll be sharing some screen time.

Ahead of the new season airing showrunner Angela Kang also told the Talking Dead series that the women were going to go head-to-head.

She said: ‘We’re gonna see some Carol-Alpha, and it’s gonna be awesome.

Carol is going to want her vengeance (Picture: Fox)

‘I’m just thinking about this scene that they have together which is just epic, that’s so cool. Yeah, there’s a little bit of a beef there.’

A little bit of beef? Alpha literally killed Carol’s son by beheading him and putting his head on a stick alongside nine other members of their compound.

We’re pretty sure there’s going to be more than just a little bit of beef.

Alpha The WALKING DEAD

Speaking at Comic-Con, it seems that Melissa is looking forward to Carol getting her vengeance.

‘I feel the same way. I feel like there deserves to be one, Carol wants vengeance,’ she told the audience at San Diego Comic-Con (via comicbook.com).

‘It’s hard enough to try to survive in the world where everything in the world itself, the odds are against you, and you go from one day to the next trying to justify going one day to the next, and it’s so hard. “Why are you doing this?”’

‘Then you have a human being coming and making that all that much worse and taking things from you,’ she added. ‘I think there should be a showdown.’

The Walking Dead returns on 6 October on AMC in the US and 7 October on Fox in the UK

Kylie Minogue will kick off the 2019 series of Strictly Come Dancing with a show-stopping medley of hits to which the professionals will perform.

Bring on the Strictly version of the Loco Motion…

The BBC is still keeping the date a closely guarded secret but Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman are both back to welcome the 14 new celebrities who are hoping to waltz, tango and cha-cha their way to pick up the Glitter Ball trophy.

The show, as always, will then see the celebrities paired with their professional partners for the first time before the launch show will also see the celebrities take to the floor for the very first time in a spectacular group dance.

There will also be musical performances from Oscar winnerr Mark Ronson and Grammy award winner YEBBA.

Motsi Mabuse will be joining Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas on the judging panel this year, but although Strictly Come Dancing’s iconic ex-head judge Len Goodman reckons Motsi is going to be a perfect fit for the judging panel he is worried about people not giving her a chance.

The pro dancer, whose sister Oti Mabuse competes in the annual dance-off, has joined the judges’ panel for this year, already receiving criticism that her relationship with her sister will affect her scoring.

It’s something that Len – who was head judge for 12 years on the show before stepping down – sympathises with, telling her to judge ‘with integrity’ and she’ll be fine.

‘That’s going to be the hardest thing for Motsi. Can you imagine if Oti is in the final two in the dance-off?,’ Len Goodman told The Sun.

Motsi Mabuse

‘Whatever decision she makes Motsi will get criticism. If she puts Oti through then people will say she’s doing her sister a favour,’ he continued.

‘If she votes her off they will say she didn’t want to be seen to be keeping it in the family.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns later this year on BBC One.

Smallville’s Tom Welling hints he’s coming back as Superman in Crisis Of Infinite Earths

Tom Welling - Superman
Could Tom Welling be returning to Clark Ken one last time? (Picture: CW/Instagram)

Tom Welling will always be Smallville’s Superman for us – so his hint that we could be seeing him in the suit again is getting us super excited.

The 42-year-old was last seen on our screens as Clark Kent eight years ago, as the prequel series following Clark before he became the Man of Steel came to an end after ten years.

But posting a cheeky little Boomerang on Instagram from an ‘exciting project’ in South Africa has got everyone questioning whether he will join the Arrowverse’s crossover Crisis Of Infinite Earths.

It doesn’t help that when he was questioned about it by a fan, who commented underneath the video ‘Hope you’re in Crisis on Infinite Earths!’

He simply responded: ‘Duh.’ – which could literally mean anything from ‘Duh. No way.’ to ‘Duh. Of course I’m going to be in it.’

Now we just have to patiently wait to see what the hell is going on.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1E0W6LgDjB/

Having him join Crisis Of Infinite Earths will just cement the upcoming special as the ultimate crossover event ever attempted – seeing as Brandon Routh, who played Superman 12 years ago, already being announced as coming back as another Clark Kent.

But fans needn’t worry, as Tyler Hoechlin, who is currently playing Superman in the Arrowverse on the CW, isn’t giving up his title for anyone – and instead they will play different versions of the hero in an all-powerful crossover.

We’re talking Multiverse here, people.

Crisis On Infinite Earths will be based on the comic books of the same name from the 1980s and will bring together all of the current on-screen Arrowverse shows and heroes.

This includes the new Batwoman series fronted by Ruby Rose, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and, of course, Arrow.

It will air as a five-hour event – with the first three hours airing in December and the second half premiering in 2020.

Crisis Of Infinite Earths will air in the US later this year, and in the UK at an unconfirmed date.

Carnival Row first reviews are out and critics aren’t too happy with it

Carnival Row (Picture: Amazon Prime Video)
Carnival Row’s first reviews have been released and they’re mixed to say the least (Picture: Amazon Prime Video)

Amazon’s newest epic Carnival Row is out next week and critics have given their first verdicts on what’s to come of the Orlando Bloom/Cara Delevingne fantasy series.

Let’s just say, for now at least, that the results of what’s been seen has been mixed.

While most can agree that the series is visually stunning, most reviews have criticised the show for its convoluted plot, which mixes a murder mystery a la Jack The Ripper, the love story between Detective Rycroft Philostrate (Orlando) and fae Vignette Stonemoss (Cara), and a social standing/racism/class divide argument to boot.

With season 2 already confirmed and on the way, it appears that Amazon have a lot of faith in the series – so let’s hope it pays off.

Vanity Fair said of the show: ‘Despite graceful nuances and spirited performances, most of Carnival Row is dense, confusing, and (literally) dark—which feels especially galling for a show released in the midst of August.’

While others saw the show as an attempt to fill the hole that Game Of Thrones left behind, with limited success as a result of it.

For Forbes, it worked out great, and the site gave a glowing review of the show as they wrote: ‘Overall, Carnival Row is the kind of show we need right now. The kind of show that lives the ideals of Game of Thrones without straight trying to simply do it all over again.’

While Variety went for a far more harsh: ‘This new series reaches for credibility with gruesomeness and exaggeration, falling flat at every turn.’

So…swings and roundabouts then?

Carnival Row (Picture: Amazon Prime Video)
While everyone agrees it’s stunning to look at, people are finding the plotline too much (Picture: Amazon Prime Video)

Gizmodo’s issues with the show goes far deeper, criticising the series for running with a racism row through human vs. creatures.

They stated: ‘What viewers are treated to is a clunky slave trade allegory featuring a very white face.’

We’re sure the viewers will come to their own conclusion soon enough, but with the 50/50 split between love and hate just from the early watchers, it looks like the gang have their work cut out for them.

The series, which runs for eight episodes, tells the story of forbidden love in an allegory centred on immigration and race via a steam-punk fantasy land.

The creatures and monsters are forced to adjust to their new life after humans invaded their home territories, claiming them for their own.

Throw in a serial killer Detective Rycroft has to find in a world where humans are all too quick to blame the non-humans, and things get complicated when his forbidden love Vignette arrives at Carnival Row as a refugee.

Carnival Row launches 30 August on Amazon Prime Video.

Peaky Blinders creator defends show’s violence after Helen McCrory brands it ‘disgusting’

Stephen Knight has come to the show’s defense after Helen McCrory branded violence ‘disgusting’ (Picture: Getty Images/BBC)

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has defended the shows level of violence, after cast member Helen McCrory complained that it was ‘disgusting’.

The 59-year-old screenwriter, whose show returns to screens on 25 August, has said that there will be ‘depictions of violence’ due to the show focusing on gangsters, but always tries to ‘show the consequences’ of the violence as well.

‘It’s about gangsters so inevitably there are depictions of violence,’ said Steven.

‘But I always try to show the consequences of that violence, rather than the characters dusting themselves off and they’re fine again.’

Helen McCrory as Polly Gray in Peaky Blinders
Helen McCrory, who plays Polly Gray, reveals she has to look away from the scene whenever violence is about to be shown (Picture: Ben Blackall)

Steven also argues that it is ‘important’ to display such violent acts in the series and the consequences such violence will have on the show’s characters.

In a new interview with The Mirror, he said: ‘The worst sort of violence is when it is depicted without consequences as if it is just easy.’

This comes after cast member Helen, who plays the role of Polly Gray, admitted that the upcoming fifth season of the BBC series was so violent, that she ‘looks away from the screen’ when a violent scene is about to be broadcast.

‘I look away from the screen. I can’t watch it. I think it’s disgusting, gratuitous violence.’

However, she also admitted that the violence portrayed in the crime drama ‘should be horrifying’.

‘You should have the people who are responsible for the violence unable to self-medicate or having mental health problems, or all the things that do happen if you kill other people.’

The actress also previously admitted that she had considered quitting the series ahead of the premiere of the fifth season.

She previously told Metro.co.uk that she had been complementing between taking up an ‘offer of another thing’ with someone who she thinks ‘is one of the most talented people.’

‘I have had a weekend of considering just this, with a wonderful, wonderful offer of another thing, with someone I think is one of the most talented people,’ she revealed.

‘I said no, and came back to this, because I feel it’s given me so much, and I think that you behave well in some things and see it through to the end if somebody wants you to.’

Season five of Peaky Blinders will premiere at 9PM on BBC One on 25 August.
