Jeremy Clarkson brought Who Wants To Be A Millionaire to a halt to call out a member of the audience for coughing.

The presenter was in the hot seat with contestant Lynne Greenwood, and was preparing to ask her the next question on the road to winning £1 million.

An audience member with a tickly throat started coughing before Jeremy began to speak, causing the host to stop what he was doing.

Before reading out the next question, he said: ‘I can hear people coughing.

‘You’re supposed to cough after the question’s been asked in such a way that Lynne can use it…not just cough constantly before I’ve asked the question.’

After a pause he added: ‘Are you better? Oh, I don’t care…’

Jeremy then went on to ask Lynne: ‘Robert Plant found fame as the lead singer of which of these bands?’, to which she correctly answered Led Zeppelin.

His gag was in reference to the the infamous Major Charles Ingram ‘coughing’ scandal on the game show in 2001.

Charles fronted the TV appearance and it’s been alleged that his wife Diana, alongside their pal Tecwen Whittock, would cough from the audience to tell him which answer was the right one.

Lynne was also faced with a question about which actor was the youngest man to play James Bond, with Jeremy referring to The Grand Tour while trying to help her out.

He said: ‘In my other job, I work with the James Bond stunt coordinator. Brilliant man, and I don’t think he’d know either.’

Her turn was cut short as the episode ran out of time, so you’ll have to tune in next week to find out how far Lynne gets.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire airs Sundays at 8pm on ITV.

5 Gold Rings fans confused as Phillip Schofield claims ‘right’ answer to Samoa question was incorrect

Fans of the show have been left confused (Picture: ITV)

5 Gold Rings fans were left confused after host Phillip Schofield claimed that a ‘right’ answer given by a couple during tonight’s show was actually wrong.

On the 22 September edition of the show, sisters Jo and Chris and couple Almo and Lou were pitted against each other in a chance to win up to £17,500.

However, one particular question left viewers feeling confused after couple Almo and Lou got it wrong – despite viewers claiming that they actually gave the right answer.

For the second question on the show, which was worth £1000, Phillip provided an animation of fireworks, informing the couples (and the viewing audience at home) that the island of Samoa is one of the first countries in the world to ring in the New Year.

He then asked the question: ‘How many hours behind Samoa is London?’

Jo and Chris were up first, placing their gold ring at eight hours, while claiming they had ‘no idea’ what the real answer is.

‘We’re rubbish aren’t we – go and get somebody else!’ Jo exclaimed.

After Jo and Chris got it wrong, Almo and Lou were next up to steal the money, with the couple settling on 12 hours after previously deciding on 10.

However, after they placed their ring, they were disappointed to find out they had got it wrong – with Phillip claiming the correct answer was 14 hours.

‘14 hours, so it would have had to have been a much bigger kick,’ he said.

As a result of both couples getting the question wrong, they both lost out on winning £1000, with the money considered gone.

However, some fans have taken to Twitter to express their confusion, as they claimed that 12 hours was the correct answer after all.

‘@5GoldRings Samoa is 12 hours difference to London, not 14,’ one fan said.

Another added: ‘Why was the answer 14hrs ahead of London when Samoa is 12hrs ahead, not 14.’

One eagle-eyed fan even provided receipts, as they posted a screenshot of Google saying that the island was indeed 12 hours ahead of London’s timezone.

‘@Schofe Samoa defo 12 hours ahead not 14,’ they said.

But in the end, it wasn’t all bad news for Almo and Lou – as they walked away with the £17,500 prize at the end of the episode.

Metro.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment.

5 Gold Rings continues next Sunday (29 September) at 7PM on ITV.

***Warning: Major Peaky Blinders spoilers ahead***

Peaky Blinders lost a vital member of the squad tonight as Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillan) was brutally stabbed to death during the Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) assassination attempt.

Aberama was waiting in the wings for his moment to finally confront and kill Billy Boy Jimmy McCavern to avenge the death of his son Bonnie, but before he could, he was gagged and knifed repeatedly.

The Mosley rally descended into chaos, with Alfie Solomons’ (Tom Hardy) Jewish gang invading the scene, poor Barney Thompson shot in the head and killed just one episode after meeting him, and the Billy Boys out in force.

With the assassination plan scrapped, the Blinders were forced to scarper, as the mystery of who exactly the new gang in town is hanging in the air.

But poor, poor Aberama, who after a season of heartache was dealt a little relief just two episodes ago with Polly (Helen McCrory) finally accepting his hand in marriage.

Just three weeks away from their wedding too.

The assassination attempt on Oswald Mosley ended in disaster (Picture: BBC)

With no choice, the boys were forced to abandon him in the wings of the theatre for fear of their own lives.

Viewers were heartbroken about his death after being such a loyal member of the Blinders, and shared their sadness online.

Tonight’s season five finale paved the way for one hell of a season six, with Tommy and Arthur both losing their sanity and the Shelby family now in tatters.

With Michael (Finn Cole) eager to step up and take over, Polly has jumped ship, but it looks like it’s actually Gina (Anya Taylor-Joy) pulling the strings.

But viewers were given one major high point with the return of Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy), who was recruited by old foe Tommy to help him with his mission.

Knowing now what having Mosley in charge means for the Jewish community, will Alfie come out of retirement and stand side-by side with Tommy to take the weasely politician down once and for all?

Basically, so many questions…and such a long time to wait.

Peaky Blinders is available on BBC iPlayer now, and on Netflix from 5 October.

Peaky Blinders season 5 episode 6 review: Horrifying finale proves Tommy Shelby will never lose us

Peaky Blinders
Peaky Blinders season five ended on a high with everyone at their lowest (Picture: BBC)

We’ve somehow blinked and an entire season of Peaky Blinders is over and done with for another season, but dear God what a way to go.

To use Blinders parlance, Tommy (Cillian Murphy), is absolutely f***ed, with his plan to assassinate Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) going so horrifically wrong that the series ended with him having a gun to his own head.

The mental health of the Shelby boys has been at play throughout the past six episodes, but it seems that both Tommy and Arthur (Paul Anderson) have actually finally snapped, and with it goes an entire gangster dynasty.

Michael (Finn Cole) is already waiting in the wings with wife Gina (Anya Taylor-Joy) with an offer to get them out and take over the business in one fell swoop, something that for reasons of pure stubbornness it seems, Tommy declines.

Tommy is a headstrong man and what he says goes 90% of the time, but he’s not God, and he can’t control everything, and in his mind, he’s never wrong. It’s dangerous.

Even when his brother is begging him to stop, even when he loses his closest ally Polly, and even as he resorts to dealing with people he would normally avoid, he thinks he’s doing it right.

Saddest thing is, he is genuinely trying to be a better person, and create a better world, but his terms for that just aren’t going to come without consequences.

So when his plan to kill Mosley gets out and is heard by the wrong ears, fan favourite Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillan) is ultimately the one who pays the price.

Peaky
Tommy lost some important allies in the ambush (Picture: BBC)

Aberama was a joy this season and so it’s sad to see him go in such an ungraceful way, left to bleed out in a stage wing as the Blinders scramble to safety.

Then we have Barney Thompson (Cosmo Jarvis), who was only in the show for one episode, but has already become a meme and won over the hearts of the viewers. (It’s f***ing Wednesdayyyy.)

Unfortunately for him his time was brutally cut short, and before he had the chance to complete his mission and kill Oswald Mosley, he was shot in the head by a mystery assailant.

We barely knew ye.

Polly will not let Aberama’s death die (Picture: BBC)

Aberama’s fiancée Polly (Helen McCrory) is going to be hellbent on revenge, though who she’s going to take aim at remains to be seen. Even she can see that Tommy’s plans are melting faster than his capacity to keep things in order, and she’s had enough.

The assassination attempt which collapses within seconds because someone (read: more than likely Finn (Harry Kirton)) let it slip to the wrong person (in this case, it appears to be Billy Grade (Emmett J Scanlan) who’s quietly infiltrated the company).

Things aren’t complete doom and gloom though, with the delightful return of the best friend/worst enemy, comic relief/absolute horror that is Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy).

Back from the dead with nothing but a jippy eye and a nasty scar to show for it.

Alfie Tom
An old friend was an icing on the cake (Picture: BBC)

It’s a shame this wasn’t kept under wraps entirely with the nod to his still-being-alive dropping last week and making his reappearance all but an absolute certainty. But regardless, Hardy chews up every last bit of that dank Margate house scenery like he’s been there the whole time.

His tete-a-tete banter with Tommy is still there and as brilliant as ever, and it’s a real testament to both Hardy and Murphy over just how well they bounce off each other.

Tommy blinders
The show cut out with a gun to Tommy’s head (Picture: BBC)

If he’s back for season six in its entirety, we won’t be mad at all.

After all, there is a lot to tie up next season between Mosley, the Billy Boys, the new mystery Big Bad and by the looks of it, the dissolution of the Blinders. It would be good to have someone around to take the sting out of the bleakness.

This episode is Peaky at its best – surprising even with the expected, keeps you on your toes and leaves you wanting more.

Bring on season six gang, we’ll be waiting.

Peaky Blinders is available on BBC iPlayer now, and on Netflix from 5 October.

***Caution: spoilers and gangsters ahead***

Tom Hardy played Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders until his death in season 4.

However, suspicious fans have spent the whole of season 5 been wondering if he’s set to make a dramatic return – with their questions answered as the series came to an end.

As his fate was finally revealed, just who was Alfie Solomons and what happened to him?

Here’s what you need to know…

Who is Peaky Blinders character Alfie Solomons?

Tom Hardy Alfie Solomons Peaky Blinders
Solomons was notorious around London (Picture: Robert Viglasky)

Solomons was the leader of a separate and feared Jewish gang based in Camden Town, London.

He ran an illegal distillery under the guise of a bakery.

He was notorious for terrorising race courses around the country, exploiting the rich characters who would frequent the races.

What happened to Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders?

We last saw Tom Hardy as Solomons in season 4, being led to believe he was murdered by Tommy Shelby.

During a dramatic showdown on the beach where he revealed he was dying of cancer, Alfie wanted Shelby to kill him to end his misery quickly.

He even shot Shelby to get a reaction. Not quite how you go about asking for a favour.

Tommy pulled the trigger and we assumed Alfie was killed.

Is Alfie Solomons still alive?

In real life, Alfie Solomons death Is unknown. The last record of his whereabouts is a letter he wrote in 1930.

Fans spent the entire series speculating as to whether Tom Hardy’s character might make a reappearance in the show.

And sure enough their patience was rewarded as the show’s fifth season came to an end tonight.

With a sixth season of the show on the way, no doubt there’s more to come from this particular plot development.

Peaky Blinders ended with a number of problems hanging in the balance (Picture: BBC)

Peaky Blinders season 5 ended with some serious cliffhangers that could change the world of the gang forever.

Major characters have died, there’s a snake in the grass of the gang, and the evil Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) seems to be on a winning streak.

Season 6 now seems a million miles away, and we’ve got nothing to do but come up with our own theories and panic as we dissect what the hell we just watched.

The Blinders are essentially destroyed, and basically anything is possible at this point as we career towards writer Steven Knight’s endgame of the beginning of World War II.

Here’s everything we need answers to and now need to sit and dwell on for the next year…

***Warning: Spoilers Ahead***

Polly and Michael by the firepit in Peaky Blinders season 4
Polly has sided with Michael as her reign in the Blinders came to an end (Picture: BBC)

What will Polly do now Aberama is dead?

Aberama Gold died in the line of duty for the Peaky Blinders and horrifically stabbed to death by an unknown assailant during the assassination ambush.

Polly had just handed in her notice in the family business, deciding to start life afresh and lead a life in line with what son Michael (Finn Cole) had in store.

Will his death push her over the edge and have her disown Tommy (Cillian Murphy), Arthur (Paul Anderson) and the rest of the men that have kept her safe all these years.

Or will she retreat, and return to the fold hellbent on revenge on the men that killed her fiancée, just weeks before she was due to finally get the happy ending she’s been longing for.

Who are the mystery mob who ambushed the assassination?

It seems that Mosley genuinely had no idea about the attempt on his life, and if he did, he did a damn good job at hiding it.

So who else would potentially be up for stopping the Shelby’s plans on the fascists?

There’s actually a number of people who this could be, but whoever they are is going to be close to home for sure – because why else would their identities be so hidden?

Will Arthur leave the Blinders?

Arthur has been Tommy’s most loyal soldier, but after Linda (Kate Philips) left him, and with his own mental health falling to pieces, he wants out.

Despite his pleas to maybe follow Michael’s suggestion to break free of the gangster life, he still falls in line when need be, and almost died at the assassination because of it.

Now’s the time for him to leave and start again. Question is, could he really do that to Tommy?

Where is Finn?

Finn announced his plans to head over to Bingley Hall for the assassination attempt, but by the looks of things he either never arrived, or hid in the shadows for the duration of the brawl.

Where the hell did he go?

Seeing as it looks awfully likely that he has been spilling all the details to his new right hand man, Billy Grade (Emmett J Scanlan) who isn’t as stupid as he seems, it looks like he could actually be the one that’s accidentally told the enemy what’s going on.

Did he make it to the rally? Or was he stopped before he could get there?

Billy has been playing a long game the entire series  to get close to Finn (Picture: BBC)

Who did Billy call?

Billy Grade has been playing a long game with Finn, something Tommy knows all too much about as he told Jessie himself: ‘You can do more damage from the inside.’

He’s definitely inside the group now – at least to Finn, even though Arthur has his wits about him and doesn’t trust him just yet.

Seems he had a point, with Billy picking up the phone after Finn let the assassination attempt slip.

So who did he call? Are they in league with the fascists? Or is it someone else who is just planning to take down the Shelby’s and everything they have planned?

Michael and Gina have plans (Picture: BBC)

What is Michael and Gina’s second option?

When Tommy turns down Michael’s business proposal for him to take over the family business and start again in New York, Gina (Anya Taylor-Joy) tells Michael it’s ‘time for the second option’.

Thing is, we never found out what that was by the time season five came to an end. What exactly is it?

They can always continue to go behind the Blinders’ backs, and completely cut themselves off from the Shelby family fold, or then they could go into business with someone worse.

The IRA made the proposal to them back on the boat as they came in from Boston, but they refused. Could they return to them?

Alternatively, could they even be in league with the men who sabotaged the assassination attempt, forcing Tommy’s hand into accepting the deal?

Was Mosley having sex with Gina?

Ahead of his rousing rally that should’ve seen him killed (but didn’t), Mosley was seen having sex with someone in his dressing room.

The woman’s face was never seen, but that blonde bob looked awfully familiar, and we already know that the pair knew each other.

Is Mosley in cahoots with Gina as well as in her knickers?

Tommy blinders
The show cut out with a gun to Tommy’s head (Picture: BBC)

Will Tommy try to kill himself?

Tommy’s mental health has officially disintegrated, and in the last seconds of season 5 we saw him holding a gun to his head, spurred on by his dead wife Grace (Annabelle Wallis).

So is he going to pull the trigger?

The chances are slight but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen him do that this season. Beginning the season by shooting a horse and then turning it on himself, only to back out.

However, this time he is full of rage and as he admits that he’s out of his depth and someone is coming for him and winning.

What will the gang actually do without their leader?

Alfie Tom
Welcome back, Alfie (Picture: BBC)

Is Alfie Solomons going to come back permanently?

Alfie’s return was a long-teased but welcome sight for fans everywhere when Tommy headed to Margate in the hope of joining forces with him.

Now that he knows just what kind of enemy Tommy is fighting against, there’s a chance he might be more open to his proposal of working together.

Tommy needs someone like Alfie around now more than ever, and with an ally like that, he could actually stand a chance of beating whoever’s against him.

Who could beat Tommy?

Whether it’s one man, or numerous people attacking him at once, Tommy is officially rattled, and he knows that he could be fighting a losing battle.

But just who is it that’s behind it all? Is there someone behind it all?

Because if there is, then it’s pretty obvious who the Big Bad of season six it.

As much as Mosley’s been a formidable opponent, it could just as easily be Michael, Billy, or another member of the gang.

Could it even be Polly? Tommy goes on about the man that can beat him, but what if it’s actually, after all this time, a woman?

ITV News’ Lucrezia Millarini is the latest star to be booked for the upcoming series of Dancing On Ice, according to reports.

It’s expected that the 43-year-old journalist, who regularly presents the six o’clock news and lunchtime news, will be taking to the infamous rink in January, as This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield reprise their role as hosts.

A source said: ‘Lucrezia can’t wait to get onto the ice and is looking forward to trying something new and out of her comfort zone.’

They continued to The Sun: ‘Bosses think she’s a natural in front of the camera and will be a big success on next year’s show.’

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Lucrezia’s reps for comment.

Sources believe the news reader will be a hit with viewers (Picture: Rex)

While the line-up for the forthcoming series has yet to be confirmed, the show has been teasing its contestants and the rumour mill is in full swing.

Earlier this week, Dancing On Ice’s official Twitter account posted an up-close photo of a mystery celebrity showing pouty lips and long brunette hair, leaving fans convinced that Love Island’s Maura Higgins has signed up.

The cheeky snapshot came two days after the programme’s social channel shared a picture of a man in a T-shirt and suit jacket with an I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star poking out of the jacket, suggesting that Joe Swash has been booked.

Dancing On Ice will welcome new judge John Barrowman when it returns, with the television favourite taking over from Jason Gardiner.

The actor promised to bring ‘fun, fearlessness and fabulousness’ to the panel, as he joins head judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and dance choreographer Ashley Banjo.

Dancing On Ice is set to return to ITV January 2020.

Love Island’s Amber Gill thanks Michael Griffiths for making her win 2019 series

Love Island’s Amber Gill has thanked former beau Michael Griffiths for dumping her as it ‘made her win the series.’

The Newcastle babe, who was crowned the fifth champion of the ITV2 dating show alongside Greg O’Shea, was sensationally dumped by Michael after the drama of Casa Amor when he returned with new girl Joanna Chimonides on his arm.

Despite the blow, Amber managed to find love – albeit briefly – with newbie Greg and the couple ended up taking home a share of the £50,000 prize money.

Speaking with The Sun’s Fabulous magazine about what she’d say if she came face-to-face with Michael again, Amber admitted: ‘I’d say, “Thanks, hun, for making me win the show.”‘

Fair.

Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea

Proving she’s over her heartache, Amber added to the publication: ‘I think in the future I’ll look back on this as a blessing in disguise. I can focus on work and spending time with my family and friends.’

Amber also admitted there’s no bad blood.

‘I don’t hate him, I’m just disappointed in him, really,’ she said.

Despite winning Love Island with Greg, he decided to call it quits just a few weeks after the show wrapped – with Amber claiming that he ended things by text.

Greg blamed long distance and their blossoming careers for the split and recently stated on Ryan Tubridgys Radio One Show earlier this month: ‘She [Amber] can say whatever she wants, but I wish her the absolute best – she’s a great woman.’

Greg and Amber aren’t the only couple from this year’s series to go to Splitsville, with Chris Taylor and Harley Brash and Belle Hassan and Anton Danyluk calling it quits too.

Ovie Soko and Indi Reynolds are still going strong though, as are Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, who’ve just bought a place together.

Love Island is expected to return to ITV2 in January 2020.

Dragons’ Den viewers divided over low sugar ‘healthy’ chocolate

Theo Paphitis Dragon's Den Pure Heavenly Chocolate
Theo was definitely impressed with Pure Heavenly Chocolate (Picture: BBC)

Dragons’ Den was back on our screens on Sunday night, with a new batch of budding entrepreneurs hoping to win investment from the Dragons to take their business ventures further.

On what was a fairly stingy night for the Dragons, only one business actually managed to secure investment, which has proven to be an intriguing and controversial concept online.

Represented by ‘Salisbury’s answer to Willy Wonka’ Stephen Conway, Pure Heavenly Chocolate is a confectionery company specialising in dairy, soy, gluten and palm oil free chocolate bars containing less than 4% sugar.

Positioning themselves as a healthy(ish), allergy conscious, vegan alternative to standard chocolate, Stephen entered the Den looking for £75,000 for 7.5% of the business.

However, while the judges readily tucked into their sample bars, fans online were less convinced that the bar would actually taste nice with all the good stuff gone.

While the different flavours on offer certainly sounded delicious, Deborah Meaden’s comment that Peter should be aiming at an American market left us a little sceptical, because as we know, American chocolate is nothing compared to the British version of the stuff.

The judges definitely enjoyed the choc (Picture: BBC)

Would you try low sugar chocolate? (Picture: BBC)

Additionally, one of Stephen’s anecdotes about how his children were satisfied with two pieces of Pure Heavenly as opposed to normal chocolate also raised more questions for viewers than it answered.

‘I can give my kids two pieces of this chocolate and they don’t want any more – can’t say I can blame them…’ one wrote.

Some also balked at the high price point of £3.45, which seems steep for a chocolate bar, although pretty reasonable for a free-from offering.

‘He wants to sell his s***-tasting everything-free chocolate bars for £3.45 in Harrods,’ one wrote, ‘meanwhile here in the real world we get 4 Mars Bars for a quid in Quality Save.’

While we can’t quite believe that low sugar chocolate can taste that good, clearly the judges (ie the people who have actually tried it) were convinced, with Tej Lalvani, Deborah Meaden and self-confessed chocolate fiend Peter Jones all making identical offers of the full money for 20% of the business.

However, when asked if they would consider lowering their percentages to 15% if they made their money back, only Peter Jones was willing to sweeten the deal, saying that he would drop down if he made £100,000 in 18 months, requiring Stephen to shake on it immediately.

Very sneaky Peter…

And while some people may have been sceptical about the chocolate’s taste, it seems that just as many were sold on the pitch, as the website apparently crashed almost immediately.

Whether you fancy going for healthy or unhealthy chocolate, we definitely fancy a bar of the sweet stuff right now.

Dragon’s Den airs Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.

Friends reimagines theme tune with Jonas Brothers and everyone is confused

Jonas Brothers meets Friends
Um… (Picture: @friends/Instagram)

It’s been 25 years since the first episode of Friends aired (how?) and for some reason the Jonas Brothers are getting involved.

In case you haven’t heard us banging on about it enough, 22 September marks 25 years to the day since Rachel Green ran into Central Perk in her wedding dress, changing the lives of her old friend Monica Geller, her friendship group and the entire TV owning population forever.

In a new video to celebrate the 25th anniversary, the iconic credits sequence that sees our six protagonists friends splash around in a fountain is reimagined to feature the three Jonas Brothers and their wives.

Confused? So are we.

Using footage from the band’s Sucker music video, The Rembrandt’s catchy theme I’ll Be There For You plays while the brothers, along with Sophie Turner, Priyanka Chopra and Danielle Jonas, mess around à la the original theme song.

With its snappy editing style and the gang’s names flashing onto the screen in the Friends font (duh!), we’re imagining this as a 2019 remake, but one where all the friends are married.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2t7VgiHjKK/?igshid=iz20ba7wtuko

But if you’re thinking that this video is surely the Jo Bros’ way of paying tribute to the show on its 25th anniversary or a cute fan edit, oh no.

The video was actually posted on (and as far as we know, made by) the official Friends Instagram and is currently the only thing that has been posted on the 25th anniversary. Um, what?

And it seems as though the fans echoed our confusion, wondering why on earth this was how the official Friends team wanted to celebrate the anniversary.

‘Why did you even make this? Why is Jonas Family in FRIENDS song. My FRIENDS lover heart is broken,’ one wrote, while another added a simple: ‘Ruined it.’

Harsh, but you can’t change the original (at least not on the anniversary!)

If anyone has any idea what the hell is going on, please send answers on a postcard.

‘We’re on a very dirty group chat, it’s filth it’s absolute filth,’ Jameela told People.

When asked who instigates the ‘filth’, Jameela pointed fingers at actor Ted Danson aka Bad Place architect Michael.

Meet The Circle 2019 line up: From Zoe Ball’s 18-year-old son Woody to the man posing as a single mum

The Circle
The Circle is back! (Picture: Channel 4)

The Circle has revealed its new flatmates ready to move in and play mind games to become popular.

The surprise hit reality TV show sees ordinary people move in to the same block flats without ever meeting each other, only communicating through The Circle.

Like social media, the contestants can message the group chat, or have private messages, using a profile that they create themselves.

They can be genuine or pretend to be someone totally different all to win popularity points and be declared the winner.

As last year’s winner Alex Hobern will tell you, posing as someone else can pay off – even if you do end up breaking some hearts in the process.

Among this year’s line up are a woman posing as her own son, a 26-year-old man pretending to be a single mum and 18-year-old Woody, the son of Zoe Ball and DJ Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim.

Let’s meet this year’s line-up.

James

(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 26

Relationship status: In a relationship

Playing as: ‘Sammie’, a single mother

James says: ‘ I have enormous admiration for single mums. I was raised by a youngsingle mum. I have nothing but respect for her or anybody else in that position, to be honest, single mums give up everything for their children which is why I chose to present as Sammie in The Circle.’

Katie

Katie The Circle
(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 43

Relationship status: Married

Playing as: Her 25-year-old son Jay

Katie says: ‘ I’m putting my personality into Jay’s profile. So the lads are going to love me and obviously I’m a girl chatting to girls so I think I’ve got the upper hand of knowing what girls want to hear.

‘It is going to be really weird, but do you know what I might actually find him love from this, so that’s alright because he’s single.’

Emelle

Emelle the circle
(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 31

Relationship status: Single

Playing as: Herself with her sexuality and real age changed to 24

Emelle says: ‘It’s kind of difficult because I’m playing it straight so I have to avoid getting in too deep. I’ll still be flirty. I could pretend to be in a relationship if it’s going to win me the game! But obviously they’d be fuming when I get out and realise I’m gay!’

Georgina

Georgina The Circle
(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 21

Relationship status: Single

Playing as: Herself

Georgina says: ‘I worry that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the experience as much if I was constantly trying to channel somebody else. And if it was to go wrong and I got voted out, I’d be disappointed because I’d feel like I hadn’t been true to myself. If I’m true to myself then I can enjoy it for what it is.’

Brooke

Brooke the circle
(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 24

Relationship Status: Single

Playing as: Herself

Brooke says: ‘I post a lot of holiday pictures in real life, but I’ll be a slightly glammed down version. I’ll be using smiley selfies, but nothing too glammed up. Because of the perception people already have of me based on my social media I want to be myself and not the Brooke that is always on holiday. People have had the assumption that I’m an escort or a sugar baby because I’m always on holiday, so that’s why I don’t want to have that profile on The Circle.

Sy

Sy The Circle
(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 35

Relationship status: Single

Playing as: Himself

Sy says: ‘If you’re talking to someone face to face it’s easy to know whether they are pulling the wool over your eyes. I guess it’s going to be a little bit harder when it’s just text messages. Hopefully someone will slip up and I’ll find out but it’s not going to be easy.’

Tim

Tim The Circle
(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 58

Relationship status: In a relationship

Playing as: Himself

Tim says: ‘I know how to use words, but I’m used to communicating face-to-face and I’m very used to looking into people’s eyes and seeing whether or not points I’m making make any sense. God knows if I can be popular. There are two audiences. There is the audience at home and then the audience that never see you – the other contestants in The Circle. You are playing two games at the same time. That’s very exciting. I don’t know if it’s winnable.’

Woody

Woody The Circle
(Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 18

Relationship status: In a new relationship

Playing as: Himself – but keeping schtum about being the son of Zoe Ball and Norman Cook

Woody says: ‘I might tell one person [about my parents] if I really trust them.

‘My whole life a lot of people have already known who I am before I meet them. This is a good chance to see if people actually like me on my own.

‘My parents know I’m doing the show and they are supportive.

‘They have given me a lot to think about from past experiences and advice. They said that what you say on TV is out there forever and you can’t unsay it and that once you share too much you never unshare it.’

The Circle returns 24 September at 9.15pm on Channel 4.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? contestant struggles on £100 question

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Ross was stumped by the £100 question (Picture: ITV)

One Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? contestant nearly headed for an early bath as he was stumped by the very first question.

Ross Robertson was the fastest finger first and found himself in the hotseat opposite Jeremy Clarkson.

While he may have succeeded at the quick-fire round, the actual game itself was a lot slower going.

His first question read: ‘According to a well-known proverb, what “…is the spice of life”?’

The options were vanity, variety, virtue and vanilla.

Ross thought to himself for a while, causing Jeremy to prompt him by saying: ‘Hello?’

‘Just thinking it through, Jeremy,’ Ross explained.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Jeremy joked that Ross was trying to communicate the answer by telepathy (Picture: ITV)

‘Are you using telepathy to convey the answer to me and I haven’t picked up on it?’ Jeremy joked.

Turns out Ross was simply deep in thought as he had never heard of the proverb in the question before.

‘He’s gone again’ Jeremy said.

‘It’s a difficult one, Jeremy. I’m not going to lie,’ Ross said. ‘I’m struggling with this one. I’ve never heard the saying before, that’s the reason why it’s difficult.’

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Ross had never heard of the saying before, but correctly guessed variety (Picture: ITV)

The presenter began to suggest that Ross use a lifeline, adding: ‘Has anyone ever used a lifeline on a £100 question before?’

Ross then decided to guess at ‘variety’, giving it as his final answer. Thankfully it the right one and he could carry one with the game, instead of suffering the shame of crashing out at the first hurdle.

He also had to use the phone a friend lifeline to answer the question ‘Which X-Men character was played on screen by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender between 2000 and 2019?’.

Eventually Ross ended up walking away with £8000 after deciding not to answer a question about a Sopwith Camel. Smart decision – we’d be stumped too.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? airs Sundays at 8pm on ITV.

Vikings stars Alexander Ludwig and Kristy Dawn Dinsmore get cute in romantic pool snaps

Not jealous at all… (Picture: Kristy Dawn Dinsmore/Instagram)

Vikings stars Alexander Ludwig and Kristy Dawn Dinsmore continued to be TV’s cutest off-screen couple, as they shared an adorable Instagram video of themselves enjoying a Sunday dip in the pool.

The pair recently reunited after their busy schedules kept them apart, spending some quality time together while Kristy shared their PDAs on social media (something she’s definitely used to doing…)

On Sunday, the pair spent their weekend together at a public pool, with the actress posting a black and white time lapse video as she and her beau cuddled in a hot tub.

It’s not quite the naturally occurring hot springs of medieval Scandinavia, but it’ll have to do.

Throughout the vid, captioned: ‘Sunday mornings with you’, the couple enjoy some one-on-one time, canoodling in the pool while Alexander gives his girl a back rub.

Alex has starred in historical drama Vikings as Bjorn since its second series in 2014, with the duo only making their on-screen debut together after Kristy joined the penultimate season of Vikings as warrior Amma.

And while we’re yet to see the true potential of her character, it sounds as though she’ll play a key role in the final season.

Congratulating his partner on her success, Alexander recently took to Instagram where he championed her role in the History Channel hit.

‘Introducing #Amma #vikings she may be the smallest but no doubt she’s also the fiercest #viking,’ he wrote (making reference to the 5ft3 star).

‘It was one of the greatest gifts of my life to get to work with my woman @_kristydawndinsmore over the past two years on #vikings I love this character and everything you bring to it.’

Alexander added: ‘CONGRATULATIONS Baby!’

Very cute – we’re not jealous at all…

Taraji P. Henson has admitted that she and the cast of Empire ‘miss’ former co-star Jussie Smollett following his axe from the show.

The 49-year-old actress, who plays Cookie Lyon in the series, revealed that she can’t cut ties with Jussie – especially after starring alongside him in the musical drama since it first aired in 2015.

Speaking to People on the purple carpet at The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, Taraji said: ‘I would say we miss Jussie, he is family to us.

‘There’s no way we could throw five years of family away. Certainly, Cookie misses him.’

Jussie’s character Jamal Lyon said his final goodbyes back in August and was last seen getting married in the season five finale.

Jamal was written out of the show following Jussie’s continued legal troubles surrounding an alleged faked racist and homophobic attack.

Taraji teased the final season of Empire (Picture: Getty)

FOX Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier announced the upcoming sixth season of Empire will be the show’s last in May.

Talking about the finale, Taraji teased: ‘The show is going to be so incredible. I mean just stay tuned. Cookie is finding herself.’

She added: ‘The struggle with her and Lucious, oh it’s going to tear your heart apart.’

When asked about what she’ll miss the most, Taraji continued: ‘I guess I’ll miss what she meant of so many people.

‘She was the one who fought off all the bullies. I think that’s what people love about Cookie and I think that’s what people are going to miss.’

Earlier this year, Collier announced the end of Power in a statement to the press and said: ‘We are turning the final season into a television even.

‘One of the great benefits of announcing a final season is to allow the fans to lean in and to have the ending they deserve, and that’s everything we’re trying to do with this iconic series.’

Is Netflix’s Marianne the scariest horror ever?

$
0
0
Marianne
(The last thing we see before we go to sleep Picture: Netflix)

Netflix’s French horror series Marianne, with that unforgettably haunting face, has captivated and terrified viewers but how does it compare in the scary stakes?

Set in the fictional French town of Elden, the hit horror show has cemented evil spirit Marianne as a new villain in the canon.

Directed by Samuel Bodin, it follows best-selling author Emma Larismon (Victoire Du Bois) who is lured back to the gloomy coastal town by Marianne after Emma tries to end her book series by killing off the heroine Lizzie Larck.

The set-up of an insatiable demon hungry for readers is spooky enough in itself but add in the creepy expressions of her first human host Madame Daugeron (Corinne Valancogne), as well as an array of other forms, and it is downright nightmarish.

Marianne
(Please no Picture: Netflix)

The eight episodes of Marianne season one, released on 13 September, already have a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it shares its perfect score with other more established titles.

Five classic films that are almost one hundred years old have a critic rating of 100% on the site: The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920) ‘remains terrifying nearly a century after it first stalked the screen’, Frankenstein (1931) ‘still unnerving to this day’, Vampyr (1932) ‘as theoretically unsettling as it is conceptually disturbing’, The Invisible Man (1933) ‘still sharp special effects’,  and The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) ‘has aged remarkably well’.

It’s important to note these critically acclaimed horror films are ranked by greatness not scariness but the common thread is that both the execution and the effects are timeless and terrific.

So how does Marianne compare to more modern horror hits?

The success of recent scary films seems to come from delivering a clever twist on classic elements of the genre, combined with compelling characters, and a spookiness that is visually stunning – think Get Out, A Quiet Place, The Babadook, and It Follows. These movies don’t rely overly on jump scares and cheap special effects but rather draw on strong dialogue and emotional performances to deliver insightful commentaries or reflections on society.

In the landscape of made for TV horror, Marianne’s current rating puts it much higher than Scream, and American Horror Story, and just above The Haunting Of Hill House and Hannibal.

While it is early days for Marianne already critics and viewers have praised the Stephen King influenced film for its stellar performances, intriguing storyline and the haunted face of Madame Daugeron that burns into your brain.
